@@smiffy68Actually, it really is just a statement of opinion. For it to be science there has to be a clear hypothesis which can be determined or measured in a controlled environment. "...Liam and Me, we're(p) gonna(v) F*ck(v/a) you(plural p) up(verb, in this case)" a statement which neither poses a question, means of method in which to calculate an accurate reading of any results (other than a single match which is too small a sample to attain any meaningful results) nor gives any base reading from which 'up' could be calculated in any trajectory. Also, he begins the sentence "My God" which is a literal proclamation towards theology rather than science. Therefore, it is my opinion (by reason of fact) that The Dude was was more accurate in his summation of the original quote than you. It was just, like, his opinion, man.😉

"O Brother Where Art Thou" is another Coen Brothers film that's just as whacky in its own way. It has a fantastic old school gospel music soundtrack, and you get to enjoy John Turturro throughout the whole film. Plus John Goodman appears doing his usual outlandish performance. And you also get George Clooney and Holly Hunter.

O Brother is my favorite because it's the Coens at their most creative. Two other must-see Coen films are Fargo and Raising Arizona. Their most acclaimed film is No Country for Old Men, but I think the rec above and the two must-sees here are the best for reactions.

    10/10
The Most Quotable Film of All Time
Those Coen brothers have an ear for language. You feel it in the sing-songy banalities of Fargo, and in the noiresque machine-gun dialogue of Miller's Crossing, but neither of these can prepare you for the feast for the ears that is The Big Lebowski.
Channeling the opaque mysteries of Raymond Chandler, the Coens throw LA resident bum and Bowling aficionado Jeff Lebowski ("The Dude" to his friends) into a strange triple-crossing case of kidnapping, ransoms, nihilists and urinated-upon rugs. It is the equivalent of throwing unrelenting forces at an immovable object, the Dude's bemused stoicism at constant odds with the world around him. He'd much rather be bowling with crazed Vietnam Vet Walter (John Goodman) and pure silent soul Donnie (Steve Buscemi).
As with so much of the Coens' output, style is more than half the point: not just visual, though ace DP Roger Deakins paints an alluring canvas, but tonal and auditory. This is an insanely funny head-trip of a movie, with wonderfully idiosyncratic characters, down to the smallest part. Who better than the Coens to reinvent the comedy of errors?
This is without a doubt one of their very best, a personal favorite, an unmissable film and the kind of experience that will plant an indelible smile on your face. Do yourself and see this now, if you haven't already.

@@richieclean A stoner movie like 'Up in the Air' with Cheech and Chong can have all those things...but what I meant was this should not be regarded as just a movie about a man who is stoned...but much more than that...!

    • @richieclean
      @richieclean Рік тому

@@vishalnimkar8246 well obviously it's not just a movie about a man who is stoned. That's just *one* characteristic of *one* of the characters (albeit a defining one). That's equivalent to saying that Die Hard is not just a movie about a man with no shoes on as if it needed to be pointed out.
In your original comment you said that you don't think The Big Lebowski qualifies as a stoner movie, and to support that claim you essentially implied that stoner movies, in general, are not "full-fledged" comedies with amazing characters and dialogue.
I would suggest that if the "stoner movie" is a subgenre, they are almost exclusively "full-fledged" comedies, and those that aren't are, at the very least, comedy dramas; see Friday/Next Friday, Dude Where's My Car, Harold and Kumar, Dazed and Confused etc
Whether these films have "amazing characters and dialogue" is a little more subjective, but I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that, on the whole, stoner movies are character driven, and have memorable dialogue at least.
This all begs the question as to what makes a film a "stoner movie" and, unless you have a more nuanced suggestion, I'd argue that the only necessary component is that at least one of the central characters is a habitual pot-smoker.
On that basis I would argue that The Big Lebowski absolutely qualifies as a stoner movie. Is it more than that? Absolutely. It's also, arguably, a bowling movie. It's unequivocally a Chandleresque detective mystery (albeit a comedic one); according to the Coen Brothers that is its entire raison d'etre. And to say that it's *also* a stoner movie is not to diminish it in any way. Indeed, it's probably the definitive stoner movie.

I've noticed the reveal of Bunny's feet when she's driving is hit or miss. Some still think she's missing a toe. I blame casting. The feet curve down too much, hiding the tip. This happened in Saving Private Ryan with the Upham/ German soldier ordeal. The guys looked too similar.

I'm just learning that it's not the same German soldier in Saving Private Ryan. I feel like everything I've known in life is a lie.

The Big Lebowski is a film noir disguised as a comedy. An innocent man is drawn into an underworld where everyone is trying to cheat everyone else, and in the process he is seduced by a femme fatale. But in this case, instead of being a hard-boiled detective, the protagonist is a slacker.
IMO, Walter Sobchak is John Goodman's best role. Angry, loud, obsessed with his service in Vietnam, wrong almost all the time, and funny as hell.
Other great Coen Brothers movies that would be good to react to: Fargo, No Country for Old Men, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Raising Arizona, True Grit, Miller's Crossing, Blood Simple.
