I remember about 30 years ago my uncle putting screws through the back of his mtb tiers so he could ride the trails in Anchorage to work. Now you can by stubs, and tiers! I learned a thing! love the videos, TY.
Love this video, and that bike looks like it will bring so much fun and joy for years to come. Normally I think those white tires look weird but they look SO good on your build, and now I kind of want some. When you put the grey grips on my wife said “I’m surprised he didn’t do red”, so we got a good chuckle when you went to the shop and bought red grips. Thanks for these videos!
Who could not love a Lurch? Well done. I love you showed the fails as well as the wins. I use one of my spare syringes for a Sawyer water filter for injecting sealant. The price of factory studdded fat bike tires would drive someone to consider the 4-5 hour alternative. Possibly longer in less skilled hands. The ability to perform repetitive tasks and doing high quality work in one sitting for hours is an overlooked life skill. [says teen age factory rat and my fathers ammo reloader in my early teens]
You made setting up that fat tire tubeless look easy, even with the re-install. I've been using a drip of de-natured alcohol to make stud installation easier. Great content as usual!
I must say, the trick I just learned from you to put the 8mm hex through the pedal hole in the crank arm is life changing. Thank you! Sram cranks can be particularly difficult to remove, and I suspect that trick to alleviate some frustration.
Ha,yep. Been there with tubeless rim tape....gorilla tape is my favorite. Huge fan of Vee Rubber mtb tyres. Got two pairs of excellent folding 29x2.1’s of different tread designs a few years ago...now disappeared off the market. Really enjoy all your videos. Thank you.
Very nice rebuild! Oury Grips are still my fave after many years. Those red ones really pop, and sing along with the other red accents. I live up north close to the stud guys. I did some home brew studs using pop rivits years ago, but ditched the whole effort, since the bike was not a fat bike, it still did not do well in snow. I have yet to stud up some fat bike tires, but looks like something I may eventually do.
I'm a sucker for color tyres. that is a sweet motobecane, the color scheme made me think about a dessert, chocolate ice-cream with cream and cherry syrup on top 😂🍫🍦🍒
Another awesome build. Do you now have a black and a white fatbike? :) Could you maybe put a parts list in the description? Of course only for the parts you source new… tracking every old part you‘ve given new life would take forever!
A lot of guys that run tubeless run Fatty Strippers on their wheels. Helps hold a lot better. Glad to see those updates to the bike. There is a company that makes a 26t 104 bcd chainring. You may want to go that route if you start doing those steep 28% grade climbs. Also dropper!
I was surprised to learn that studs are installed from the outside. I thought they went completely through the tire. Wasn't sure about the white tires either, but they ended up looking good in the end. Great build.
Man! I didn't mean to jinx you by asking about studded tires! Hate that you had a fall, those are never good, but if you were recording, it is UA-cam gold. I went over the bars on a mountain bike in Georgia and that is my most talked about video. LOL! I enjoyed the transformation on this fat bike. Very cool.
I finally put some studs in a fat bike tire and Stud Nuggets seem to be a solid product. I buy mine local in the store that ships them out, how can you lose with a brand name like that? Haha! The store hand that sold them to me recommended spraying them with silicone lube first and that It worked for me as well.
i've been thinking of a way to make crampons or micro-spikes for bike wheels. something to just strap onto the wheels, instead of changing out to dedicated studded tires
I'm turning my Gary Fisher bike into an e-bikes because the bike is so cool I'm going to show it off because its already a chilled style bike I'm going all the way but it will be going on the dirt for sure thats what its for 😎 👍🏾
Awesome job, there is nothing like owning a fatty! Really liked the red bling, I use the vee bulldozer in front and the snowshoe xl rear, these tires ride good all year...
I've been thinking about studding my fat wheelset... We have pretty similar snow conditions (depending on the day), so I can't decide if it's worth it or not.
I used to live in Michigan and Wisconsin and your video almost. ALMOST, made me miss snowy winters. Curious, how do you find the music for your videos? Do you buy a license?
oh man! You really make me wana get a Fatbike too :) Loved the Build! Do Studs really do such a difference? Those Trails look crisp! Thanks for the Video! Cheers from Germany!
My fat bike needs this! I have a fromt tire worn out! The tires too are too heavy! I need those foldable tires man Also all those accessories must cost as much as new bike over here
Is this a bikes direct bike? If so, would be interested in your experience, specifically the quality. I bought one bike (hybrid) from there as a gift for my dad but he prefers to ride hand-me-downs
I was wondering what you thought of the stud nuggets? Your video looked as though it was an easy install.but have heard horror stories of folks installing all sorts of studs(brand wise) and having issues with them. Wondered if you still have your Charge fatbike as well and what has happened with that? Great video.thanks for sharing!
Hey! I fell on a pot hole and bent my derailleur. The hanger looks fine, but the part itself looks broken. Any advice? Can I bend it back or should I buy a new one
Hi there - how are you? I noticed u bought Vee tires... For giggles. I want to see you take a department store hardtail. You know the kind; quill stem, rim brakes, freewheel, stamped aluminum 3x front chainring. Can't go over $200. Has to be a hardtail. I want to see what you can do to it.
@@oldshovel Sadly you don't live any where near KevCentral. It'd be a fun collab. Ah well. Bikin'gs still a great way to decompress. that one hill on the loop i've been introduced to though just.... My bike SO does not have a good enough climbing gear for that thing. Starts at a quick turn and you're right on this hill so starting with no momentum. Can't do the other way because you're starting with a big downhill ending right on a hard turn and if you mess up, right into traffic ya go. Still fun though, even after hacking up a lung (post covid. hoping the whole thing will help with recovery.)
The red Dolomite is not the same frame as the normal blue Dolomite ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTGiBQEtJDzdz-_LjtY9HyQZPzkg6s_L9 it seems to be a Hitch with Dolomite stickers and solid rims. This isn't an issue unless you are counting on the wider tire clearance of the original Dolomite. This can be hard to tell given the angle of the pics, especially on a smaller screen. The red version does have the welded seat lock of the newer Malus. If the red color is important and you're going to be doing the basic upgrades popularized on the biking forums and UA-cam; you would probably be better off buying a Hitch, getting the lighter wheels, and saving a little money. We ordered a blue and a red one and both of the bikes needed grease in the bottom brackets, hubs, and stems. No matter what, these are a great introduction to fat bikes and wrenching your own stuff at this price point.

Your UA-cam channel is an inspiration for me. He also rummages around in bikes. I admire your approach to a particular model.
Thanks

Billy Flamingo's Stud Nuggets may be one of the greatest product names ever!
You made setting up that fat tire tubeless look easy, even with the re-install. I've been using a drip of de-natured alcohol to make stud installation easier. Great content as usual!
Good tips. It was not easy but no one wants to watch the two hours I spent jumping on the tires to get the bead to break… 😁🙌
Great video! Those studs are so much more civilized than back in the day when we used to use screws for studs.
Wow man that song was fire 🔥 really added to the video fantastic bravo
It's always nice to see a"nice job done ".

Stud Nuggets…..Buah ha ha ha. Love it!
I know. Awesome name.
That's the right frame for these tires.
Matchy matchy matchy is not often so very nicely fitting..
🙌
Like a whole new bike!
Thanks
I recently switched to studded tires on my fat bike as well, huge improvement in ride and of course confidence when on icy trails.
Awesome
Back in the nineties I used metal screws to do the same thing. Then lined the tire with Mr. Tuffy's. Worked great.
Terrene missed an opportunity by not making those tires and calling them the Cake Eaters. Treads look like frosting, haha. Awesome job.
Nice build … you made that bike look special
I’ve got the same Avid brake levers on one of my builds. Love them!
Great video...my OCD was getting the better of me until I realised that you had cleaned the frame before refitting the crank.
Let's go! mucoff valves with stans sealant. Thats what I run on all my bikes :)
🙌
I liked the double chainring up front... This seems like a bike where more gears will help

So you pulled out the existing studs to replace them with those red ones? That's real dedication!

Tannus Armour makes a tubed insert sized for fat bikes, if you want to avoid the mess and hassle of that tubeless setup in the future.
Bello andare sulla neve 🚴♂️
Cool studs that was quite the process! Any advice on where to find a pre owned fat bike?
I skated on the ice today on 26x4.0 tires because I don't have spikes. )) 😊

Fellow Lurch owner here rocking studded tires as well. What happened to the Charge?
I still have it and it rides great 🙌
Kindly request can you recommend some upgrade part for 7 gear fat bike it's so hard to find part for 7 gear and fatbike
Only additions I'd make would be red cassette cap and red disc rotor bolts. Otherwise great build up!
Have you ever used ESI Chucky grips?
Tires looked bit too hard for those icy trails. Mayby some lower pressure next time for extra grip. Greetings from Finland!
How good do those Novatec hubs feel? I'm debating on buying some and am looking for good feedback on the hubs before I buy them
I forget that there’s still snow on the ground in some parts of the country! 😁
Also why the stem change? They almost looked the same length.
The handlebar diameter, the old was 31.8mm the new (used, from my parts bin) was 35mm.
@@oldshovel oh duh, didn’t think of that.
very biautiful ride tank you frenchy sorry for the speak

I am going to try tubeless. Seems like a big bother to setup and to keep rolling.
It can be. Sometimes it’s simple, sometimes it feels like an art.
Do those work on more narrow tires
Yes!!!
🙌
If you spray the tire with soapy water the studs go in easier
Good tip
What is that sealant injector???
I sensed you might have been holding back a chuckle every time you said "stud nugget" but a great mod all the same
