This is a nice in depth video. I bought a 13 inch chineasium xtron dvd player for about 250us on amazon. I had an advent one that the latch kept breaking on and the screen wouldn't stay up. I figured they're all kind of crappy so i just tested my luck on it. And actually it works great. The screen and physical looks are a lot better in my opinion compared to the old design dvd players that seem to be the only other option. We'll see how long it lasts, but man is it an upgrade over my advent unit.
This is fantastic! Thank you for taking the time and effort to show us your process and results 👍🏼 I’m now confident to start an install in our 2018 Pacifica!
This is Awesome. 👍Thank you for your time and effort to make this video. Even though I'm not installing an overhead unit, the information is useful for other applications. Like one of the other viewers commented...I'm also reluctant into cut my headliner.
Hi, need quick help. I gave 2019 crysler Pacifica touring L. Is there anything between the roof and the headliner that can hold this heavy player? I see you added few wood pieces I guess. Do you have any pictures that I can see before I cut headliner?
Hi Rahmath, if you push up on the headliner you can usually feel some resistance where there is a metal bar across. I believe it goes the width of the van and is probably about 4 inches wide and right about at the back of the front seats if they are fully back. I thought about mounting the screws into this piece of metal but it was too far forward in my opinion. But if you remove the front light console from the ceiling you can reach back and feel around to see if that would work for you before you start cutting or at least to make a plan. But there is a lot of empty space behind that bar where I think it should mount which is why I glued the pieces of wood to the ceiling. They have held up now for close to a year without any issues and I saw other videos of people doing the same thing. I will see if I can upload a photo but I don't have a picture of what it looks like up above the headliner where I cut. See if this link to a pic will help. I know it is from the video but it highlights where I believe the bar is: shorturl.at/bguBN
@@makeitwill thanks a ton. I was not expecting a reply this quick. Which glue did you use ? I am planning to buy 15 inch flip down monitor so it may be little more heavier I guess. My car always in uncovered parking lot so not sure it will effect on the glue overtime because of the sun overheat .
@@hussainimca, glad to help! I used clear gorilla glue. It is strong and sticks to most anything. You don't want to use anything that expands. And if you cut a hole smaller than the wood then the headliner with a little bit of stuffing to hold it in place should do the trick. Rock solid in 24 hours was my experience.
I didn't end up getting that to work. I tried several times to get the right wire configuration but it never worked to turn on the DVD player lights with the doors opening. But we don't really seem to use those lights on the player and we can manually turn them on/off if needed. Sorry that isn't much help.
Edit: I used a 15 foot cable and it was more than long enough. The extra length is just tucked up in the roof so there's no slack to catch on. I believe a 12 foot cable would do though.
@@makeitwill I have installed the same dvd player in my Pacifica. My problem is, when I plug the aux cable in from the player to my aux jack in dash unit, no sound comes through. The dvd player should stop playing through its own speakers and automatically play the sound through the aux cable right? Or did you have to change a setting? Thanks!!
@D J , yes, it should always be playing sound through that AUX cable but it will not automatically stop playing through its own speakers. On the DVD unit you want to change the settings to output to the IR (headphones) so the sound stops coming out of the built in speakers. Using the remote, hit Menu, arrow down to the Sound icon, arrow right to change the options and then down to IR, hit right arrow again and change to A or B and hit the right arrow again. This will stop the sound coming from the speakers and output to the A or B channel of the headphones. Then on your Pacifica screen you change the Media source to Aux. The Media button should have a "Select Source" option and choose "AUX". Since the DVD unit should always be providing sound output through that cable, you can just change the Pacifica settings to ignore it if you want to just use the headphones. Some of my kids listen through the headphones even when the sound is coming through the van speakers from that AUX cable. I guess maybe the volume isn't loud enough for them at times.
@@makeitwill Yeah, I thought so. But still has no output at all from AUX. I tested the line with another and it works. Looks like I have a defective dvd player, it also has other functions inop. Thanks for your video and help!! Im going to return it for a different brand. By the way, how has yours lasted? Think I should stay with this brand or not?
@@celticokie, our DVD player has been operating very well! We recently went on a big trip so it was probably used for 6-8 hours at a time over a couple of days. Otherwise, we use it at least once a week and haven't had any issues with it. It resumes playback of DVDs even after the power is cut to the unit from the previous time. The way the adapter powers it is kind of nice since when we reach our destination and I shut off the van, it shuts off the DVD player when I open the door. The kids don't love that feature though! As a unit, it is cheap but I personally would recommend it to anyone and probably replace it with the same brand if this one goes bad. Thank you for the feedback and let me know if I can help with anything else. Good luck with your install and hope your replacement goes well!

What about the yellow and white wires for the door?
So if i put one i just screw it onto the head lining itself?

One last question, will this glue can handle 5kg ( 5000 grams ) DVD player ? Or I need to buy with less weight?
I DIY EVERYTHING but I just can't bring myself to do this. Cutting that hole in the headliner is really holding me back! Ugh!
I don't blame you. I was very nervous doing that part.
Which trigger wire did you use from the interior light?

How long of auxiliary cable do you need
