For anyone struggling on the last part of poping the bead in, just keep working it around. You have to go around inch by inch and make sure you pinch together making the two beads touch at the middle of the rim. Then and only then will it go. I guess he has done it so many times he can do it first try. But mad respect to him...
Crucial if you have a flat and only want to replace/repair the inner tube: check the inside of the outer tire for any objects that punctured it! Otherwise you stick a new one in and you'll puncture it again in no time.
i know this is 5 years old, but no, not necessarily. if it’s a big hole, obviously yes, but if it’s just a small, like a screw punctured or something, It’ll be good for a while. Ideally though, you should get it replaced
Thanks. I am 15 km from home and just wrecked 2 tubes trying to fix a flat with tire levers. On my last tube so googled how to change a 29er tire. You are a life saver.
Everything on here is helpful but I also got a great tip from another website. That is to cover the new tube in talcum powder and do the same for the inner surface of the tyre, acts as a dry lubricant and as well as avoiding pinch flats it also makes it easier to get the tyre fully back on the rim without the need for levers. Have literally done this today after struggling yesterday for 90 minutes, got it done in 5 mins including adding the Talc.
My hands are black. My face is sweaty. The tyre remains on the wheel. I will win. And when I do. I will find a sorcerer to curse you for mocking me by making it look so easy. Sleep in fear.
I am determined to carry out my bike maintenance by myself with no reliance on my husband (a non mtb'r but still able to do these things kind've bloke). These videos are brilliant, I'm sure for many people who have grown up riding and maintaining their bikes these simple things might seem completely unnecessary, but I assure you that for someone who has come to riding later in life they give me the confidence to try tasks I would never have tried without them. They are so easy to follow and my tyre went back on with only a little struggle (I did use the levers, weak girly arms ;)) I even managed to get the wheel on without putting the bike upside down ;) THANK YOU!
Re-watching this for the umpteenth time for that last minute of pro skill and knowledge after 5:34 - I always forget how u get rid of the tension at the end there 😂 Thanks a million, you absolute rock star! 🤘🏻
Best video out there, seven years on, showing you how to get the tyre back on the wheel thank-you Neil 🎉❤ You are the only one who details pushing the rim on to one side of the wheel at a time. Success 🙏
If it's a puncture you're sorting, don't forget to inspect the inside of the tyre for whatever punctured the tube in the first place. That thorn/ piece of glass will run through a few tubes pretty quickly otherwise
As simple as this seems, it was a little intimidating the first time I fixed a flat. In mid summer I got a flat every time I rode the local trail. A thorn was working its way through the tire and puncturing the inner tube. After four flats in four days I got pretty good. It now takes about 10 min instead of an hour (including finding the thorn and removing it from the tire). Practice, practice, practice. And it saved the $10 service fee at the local bike shop.
Used to go to the local workshop everytime i get a flat. This is the first time I'm ordering a tire and a tube. Adapting to the Corona virus lockdown situation I guess. Thanks for the vid.
Break the bead with the tire on the floor. Put two feet to the edge of the tire (not opposite sides but more at a 4 to 8 position) and pull carefully from the spokes or rim. I have to break my bead like that every time it's so snug.
Great Video guys even though I thought I knew how to do it well I learned a few tricks for sure. Just completed my fastest change over yet. Thanks guys!
i have bought a new set of tires and the rim and the tires are tubeless ready but the front tire is not sealing lots of sealant is in there too but still not sealing any ideas (front tire is a continental trail king, rear tire is a continental mountain king 2) keep up the good work GMBN!!!
Omg I always have major tantrums and sore fingers and thumbs installing a new tyre. The key thing from the video.put the tyre into middle of wheel. Ie off the bead to complete that last 20 %. Doing this gives you more rubber to push over the rim and complete the tyre install. I’ve just done my first mtb tyre without using tyre levers. Although I have got destroyed fingers and thumbs from the previous attempt. Then watched you video ❤
i know this is an old video, but i'm sure, that ppl still watching this because of some newerish comments. so im just repeating what is already said in this video, but i want to point out, that it is crucial for some rim/tire combinations to fit the edges of the tire into the bead (smal indentation in the middle of the rim) during installation process. for me, i also had to check from which side i have to apply the tire to the rim, becaues it's an asymmetrical rim. so the spokes are not in the center of the rim (hope that makes sense, but if you have asymmetrical rims, you will notice it). here it's crucial, that you apply the tire from the shorter side of the rim, ohterwise you need even more strengh. after installaling, my tires are a bit wobbly and i tried a method, where i used some soap whater on the rims before inflating the tube, but didn't worked out. maybe you have a solution, that works? and sorry for bad spelling or grammar, but english isn't my first language.
I was just replacing my rear worn tire (factory installed) and there was no way I could get it off the edge of the rim with just my fingers. With a lot of problems, I succeeded, but then a new problem followed - the new WTB Ranger is so rigid that it is impossible to mount it as in this video, while I managed to get a hole in the inner tire. It's not the first time I've changed a tire and so far there have been no problems, but it's the first time I'm changing to an e-bike that has different tires and rims than a normal mtb.
Good call demoing how to do this on ZTR rims. They're pretty good rims, but they're sort of a bitch to put tires on. My first time with these rims, I actually managed to pinch 5 inner tubes trying to get them on. Now I'm afraid to run them tubeless as they have lots of dings and dents right around the bead which I think might cause problems with sealing. I've actually seen videos of people trying to convert to tubeless and have their tire explode off the wheel and I think it's due to the rim having dents all over.
I have blown tires off of my ZTR rims but only when using non tubeless tires. And to be fair, I was trying to achieve a pretty high pressure as I was mounting cross tires for gravel grinding.
+William Keys same here on ZTR crest rim with GEAX Barro moutain tire. I've also manage to explode tube two times on that rim. Nice rims but pain in the ... finger ... to replace tubes on that rim in middle of nowhere.
I can't get rid of tire wobble, even though I always do the same thing on the video. Wheels are fine and straight, just the tires that wobble side to side. Have used soapy water around the bead (not that much..) and over-inflated it for a while before lowered down the pressure. Any ideas?

Long story short, it was impossible to place the tyre back into the rim with bare hands, it was a nightmare also with levers... Got 3 out of 5 fingertips injured :( Worst tyre ever.
+Davide Sandona' Use a bit of dish-washer-soap. Just a drop with maybe 20ml of water and apply a bit to the inner carcass of the tire. Should pop on easy!

The guy in my local bike shop says that if you are in dire need of a tyre leaver but dont have one he says you can use the backside of a pedal spanner. Is this correct or is it a risk of tearing the tyre also love the show

I swear the people making these videos have the strongest fingers, the strongest plastic or the softest tyres. I ended up snapping all of my tire levers in two and moved on to stainless steel spoons before my tire finally gave in.
Don't you just hate it when you inflate the tire, spin the wheel and it's all wobbly even though the wheel is perfectly true and the tire was put on correctly?
I've bought a little compact rechargeable compressor for the car off of Amazon. Turned out it has a setting for using it on bikes as well, which was nice. I remember seeing some people blowing their tyres up at a garage compressor when I was young. Back when air was free, to give you a rough idea of how long ago that was. And when I say 'blowing their tyre up' I really mean BLOWING IT UP! HAHA.
Thomas Schneider unless the frame pinches thinner below the normal level of the tire (or brakes) which it docent, then i don't get you...??!! brakes might be a consideration but you can always release them.... because of that??
Without this video it would have been very difficult to change the tyres thank you firstley , secondley there are a lot of videos out there but they do not come close to GMBN..just saying.
Any advice for when the tyre refuses to comply? Tried every trick i know but can't unseat the bead. It's a new bike so was trying to convert to tubeless. WTB STi 23s and stock WTB tyres. Thanks!

HAHA.
Good information 👍
Nice one 👍🏼
Nice Neil!
Thank you, that was helpful!
what happens when your removing your rear tire if you don't do it on the disc brake side you could just hit your cassette
Mind making a vid for changing a tubeless tyre ? Like do i have to clean it first or something ?
+Gaming hi, we already have one on the channel, use the search feature to find it
You forgot to tell that if it's the back tyre, insert the wheel back before inflating...
+Thomas Schneider why??
Why
because the frame can block the wheel when it's inflated then you're unable to put it in.
Thomas Schneider unless the frame pinches thinner below the normal level of the tire (or brakes) which it docent, then i don't get you...??!! brakes might be a consideration but you can always release them.... because of that??
+Thomas Schneider never had that happen to me....
How’ out getting the tire off? Losening the bead? Easy if you are young ish man . What to do otherwise?
Without this video it would have been very difficult to change the tyres thank you firstley , secondley there are a lot of videos out there but they do not come close to GMBN..just saying.
Any advice for when the tyre refuses to comply? Tried every trick i know but can't unseat the bead. It's a new bike so was trying to convert to tubeless. WTB STi 23s and stock WTB tyres. Thanks!
If you are just changing the outer tires, but you want to keep the inner tube, is it necessary to get the inner tube out?
I would like to see how GMBN replace tube on ZTR Crest rim in the same way showed in this vid ^^
What's so special about that rim
+bommbel The rim on the video was ZTR Flow EX. So, no much difference, as they differ only in width.
+Артём Тимофеев For me changing tyres (I'm use all kind of GEAX tires) in those rims is very tough and almost impossible to do in the way presented in vid. But it might be just tough rim tire combo that Neil mention in 1:12 or maybe my fingers need some exercise ^^
