I have bolt through boost axles but when i torque them up it gives the wheel resistance when freewheeling, its not the brake pads rubbing, is this supposed to happen? the bearings feel fine when the wheel is off so im guessing they are ok?

For some it might be simple thing but still You guys are putting a lot effort and hard work into these videos And i appreciate that A lot beginners can learn from this same goes for me
These videos are so useful for newbies like me. I removed my quick release front wheel last night and took the axel out of the wheel then had to put it back in to put it on. Watched this and realised I don’t have to take the axel out I just undo it and slip the wheel off. Thanks GMBN loving your channel guys
I'm new to this sport and want to thank you for this video. It's been about 40 years since my time spent on bikes, lots have changed...this video was the perfect starting spot for my new adventures. 🥂
This I why I enjoy watching GMBN so much.these guys are pros.Especially when Doddy is hosting he explains it in such a way, aswell as the visual element it certainly helps many people (including myself) to maintain/fix your own bike with a level of confidence. If it wasn't for guys like this I would've had real difficulty fitting a new brake lever and bleeding the system.today I'm changing the rear wheel on my girlfriend's bike and I'm happy to do it.keep up this great work.
I am so thankful about these beginner vids, having just bought my first AM bike, a 29-er, and having to transport it into a Honda Accord, this will be of great help. Thank You.
I’ve been changing wheels forever on my bikes and I just decided to watch this in case there might have been any useful tips I never knew about. I’ve always ridden with Shimano components and I recently bought a used bike with a sram rear derailleur and didn’t know about the little lockout button so changing the rear tires was a pain. Glad to know now
This was the absolute best video explaining exactly what I needed to know as a complete beginner. All other videos I've watched left questions. I like that you showed visual examples of everything, including different systems. Everything could be understood well. Thanks for making this video! Now it's time for me to try it.
I completely forgot how easy it was and self sufficient I was last summer when I had to change a tube and then later a tyre on my own using your direction, but now struggling to recall and knowing there's an easier way, after watching a few videos and not coming right I walked away, then I remembered I saved this video and vwala within seconds I'm smiling an ready to hit the road. You explain and show it so well, thank you :)
A very well produced video. Clear, concise and straight to the point. I have got a new bike and it is the first I have had with disk brakes. I knew there was something I had to watch out for when I removed the wheels but didn't know what it was so I really appreciate the tip about the cardboard wedge preventing the pads locking if the lever gets pressed while the wheel is off. I will be transporting my bike in my car and will have to remove the front wheel to do so. Very helpful, thank you.
Have just started trial riding in New Zealand. Fixing first puncture was a struggle. Found your video sooo helpful (fortunately I was within internet range). Thank you.
Easy to understand, very practical! Seeing the video help to avoid big problems (for example, with brakes 😂). Nice way of teaching, it proofs wise words: “Have you seen a man skillful at his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before common men”. Of course, there is nothing demeaning about working for “common people”. But the skillful artisan’s fine work will not remain a secret 👍🏽 please, post more basics video 🙏🏽
Thanks so much, tire tube popped and I had to walk back a couple miles, then bought two new tubes and a fix kit, and this helped me installed a new tube! Didn't know what to do with the gears on a mountain bike.
I always refer to this video if I need to remove my wheels after not having done it for a while. It's easy to forget little things like the cardboard brake pad trick. Great video.
I’m ngl for the most helpful thing was if you pressed the brake you had to pry it open, a small detail which was so important because I couldn’t figure out why my wheel wouldn’t go back on, so helpful thanks
Hello, just wanted to say I just bought a new MTB the other day, first bike in ages, so I’m glad I found your channel! Thanks for all of the great information for this newb haha I’m really looking forward to hitting the trails in Edmonton this season 🤘
Nice video. I had the allen key axles. Both wheels were a bit tricky first go. The front one I had to lift a few mm on the side nearest the allen key once it was in, to get the axle through. The rear one I had to pull the frame apart slightly at the dropoiuts to get the axle back in. That one used a TX 30. The locking button trick worked nicely. With the rear, I could tell the chain was going to go on so I just focussed on the brake pads. I did it with the bike upside-down by the way. Had to put a block of wood under the seat to stop my pannier rack hitting the ground. Sticking up bar ends protected all the bits on my handlebars.
Wish I had seen this video from 8:13 a bit earlier. Had a puncture today and have been struggling putting the rear wheel back in on the chain. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for taking time to explain basic things. I subscribed and gave a thumb up. It is fully, clearly explained and it's the first vid that mention and explain why to put a cardboard piece on your disc brakes. But plastic pad spacer are usually provided with your bike.
what an excellent video. I had problems recently removing my front wheel from my through axle specialised epic and looked an idiot at the bike shop who showed me I had to put the lever in a small notch when it was fully extended. thanks for this informative video.
Thank you, starting cycling again after open heart surgery , rescued a bike that needs a back tyre replace, i have a shimano tourmay gear and this video helped a lot although it doesn't seem to have a lever like you mention, wish me luck
Great video very useful. I just bought a mtb, it has a quick release system like the first type you showed, I was always worried about removing it just in case I am not able to put it back. Now after watching your video that's not a problem, you made it very simple
Thank God for GMBN!!! I didn’t realise until watching this video that I had a button to pin back my derailuer. It has made replacing my wheel so much easier. Dooooooh!
I have gravel bike with SHRAM, I didn't know about the button either till this! Changing tires with the disc brake made me nervous at first! But this is really good to know about the lock button! LOL
I’m just off out to find my lock button as I have a new Lapierre Overvolt with Sram and didn’t know this button existed! Very helpful thanks as changing inner tubes and drilling the wheels to take Schrader valves today. Keep it up. 👍
Take picnic blanket or carpet mat .. flip bike so the blanket or mat protects the cockpit then you are not left with one wheel in trying to undo it and dropping forks or rear mech in a car park. More importantly...put the through axle back in... you don’t want to get to the trails with no axle or the other way. (If you have a traditional QR however remove and stick in a 9mm. ) and if you are watching this.. then yes, the clutch only gets turned off for removing a wheel and axle threads take grease...
peoplestealallmynames absolutely... if it’s thru axle it will only have one position anyway but will be easier especially the rear, just pull the top (usually bottom) so it goes in.

@@gmbn thank you. It will be extremely handy. The three areas I will get stuck on is installing the rear suspension , installing the bottom bracket and installing the fork. I think I will need to buy parts for the rear suspension.
Neat. Something annoying with the axis that require an hellen hey is that sometimes the key hole gets with mud and it is easy to get it damaged if you don't clean it before opening. Greetings from the Galilee.

After replacing my tube last week, today I replaced the back tyre to a tubeless ready and inserted another tube. If you don't even know how to do this, do you even own a mountain bike?
Don't unscrew both sides at a quick release. You will get problems with the positioning of the wheel. Just open one side!

Totally prefer non-quick release thru axles. They're simple and work, and you can them torqued consistently. You have to keep the cam mechanism fairly clean on the QRs and then they're always fiddly trying to get them oriented in a safe direction. Generally, one should bring a multitool along for any ride, so, no real disadvantages for me.
DT-Swiss (rear Spesh) ones are not fiddly and easy to tighten and orient too (see recent GMBN video on axles).
