For no apparent reason, just a small reminder that EU citizens can request their personal data from any company in the world, including requesting the purpose/legal basis for collection, the storage duration, data sources, how they are processing it etc. They also have the right to erasure, where they can force the company to delete most of your personal data (except for some very special legal exceptions, but chat messages etc shouldn't fall under that) So, if you were to see some analytics website in a random video, that could have personal data about you (usernames count), you could send them such a data request and after they answered, you could then use your right to erasure afterwards (or at the same time, but then they can first delete your data and send you an empty response the the data request, making it easier for them).
So, news flash, you don't need a bot to do that. When someone deletes the message on discord, discord server sends a "delete message with this id" message to all clients connected. Any client modification or self-bot can just ignore that request, heck, even if was respected, message logging happened the moment message was sent, it doesn't matter what happens later, it's already in a database. Discord chats are public. Treat it as public space, don't ever post personal data on it.
As someone who owns/moderates a few discord servers of varying size: yeah. Any discord server with competent-enough staff will have a bot that logs deleted messages. Usually in a staff-only channel. This problem is pretty much impossible to solve on Discord's end. There's no way to stop self-bots that does not infringe on the privacy of general users. You can't just tell all users to show their ID, and if you did that anyways, I'd bet that the average self-bot user actually has more IDs than the average user. Discord does encourage people to share a lot of info by nature, since it tends to engage people in real-time conversations where you have less time to think over what you say, but people need to realize this and just think more carefully rather than complaining to management who can do practically nothing.
Its likely that almost all public servers(and a lot of private servers) already have logs. How much they log is upto the server but almost everything is. In my private servers, some of them have logs, others have transparent logs where everyone can see - but if something went against someones privacy, id delete from logs. As someone who ran a python/PHP bot about 15 years ago, this is nothing new. I had a chat bot that not only let me see who said what in a command prompt, live, but also recorded it to a txt file. As creepy as that sounds, I used it to debug chat commands such as Spin the Bottle, IdleRPG, room greeter and a prototype where it would try to have a decent coverstation (never finished or worked out, that last one). As online safety is concerned, just always assume any bot is always recording everything, to drop in on you or otherwise.

"dont know why people are wasting their resource on just scanning all these messages". This information is of so much value for anything. its a huge amount of data from online users talking unfiltered on a variety of interests.
Also, people who know how to program can make a script which connects to Discord as a client and saves messages. From there, you can do whatever you want. Heck, you could even make your own gateway to chat with people just by using the script or create commands to listen to and send messages accordingly when a command is sent from another user. Hackers will become Discord mods in the near future
searing heat here.
as a pc worker i hate the immense heat. i need to run my whole room in fans to keep cool.
also man discord is scary indeed how much malicious stuff u can do.
"a hidden flaw in discord that allowed anyone to save public messages" me: "its called screenshotting"
welcome to yurination
Urination
Me sending messages rn:
8:02 you also have too be careful with bot have snip command too
Well time to tell the bois we need to start packing again.
me watching this 8 months later:
Is no one gonna talk about the Bakugan R34 at 1:11 LMAO
Dang this is scary that people can just logg everything everyone says in a server. Does this apply to private dm's? does discord save and logs your messages, voice and video calls? I mean since it's not a server I assume you can't use a bot to so it makes me wonder if you're still safe in private messaging which Im not sure.
If you have access to some kind of data you can log it. So if your friend(or friends for a group dm) want to log their conversation with you to an html/json/txt file including Assets like emotes, images, group logo and, pfps they can. Or if you have a particularly foolish friend at risk of getting token logged I wouldn't send them anything you don't want logged either.
This guy is the final boss of discord mods
Another day another video from NTTS talking about how horrible discord staff and moderation
4:00 so basically the bot is standing in the "doorway" of the server
Why do we have to think on discord, we should be able to feel free to do anything on discord
well you are free to send your home address im just not sure it will turn out well but thats in you
i mean.. its talking to strangers online. saying doxxing yourself is a bad idea because someone WILL save it is internet safety 101
Basically if discord doesn't do anything it's because scraping channels with any user token isn't detectable if done correctly.
This is probably the nerdiest ntts vid I've watched so far
7:43 nah bro I go outside every day to work
at least now we know that ntts’ real name starts with an r
the discord api has every message you ever sent even if its deleted I think
Bro does the Snapchat app not do the same thing? I would be willing to bet they train their AI from their user's private messages. Not even public servers; private messages.
