  • Numerous studies indicate a significant overlap in migraine, dysautonomia, hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). The co-occurence of these conditions in a clinical setting can present a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. Nada Hindiyeh, MD, Metrodora Institute, West Valley City, UT, outlines how dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system can be identified in patients presenting with headache. Measuring orthostatic vital signs can be a useful first step to indicate that further testing is necessary. Detailed autonomic testing can further elucidate the specific diagnosis, including tilt tests, cardiovagal function testing, and sudomotor function testing. This interview took place at the American Headache Society (AHS) Annual Meeting 2024 in San Diego, CA.
