    Test road my install of one of these today and was very impressed. Handled a hilly route that I normally need a lot of low gears and hard effort cycling to manage but no problems in just normal gears with the Tongsheng. First ebike I've ever road and having put it together myself and it working so well is quite a result & pleasant surprise. Cycling will never be the same again, it will be much better. Normal non-ebikes are now pretty much torture machines but I like that the Tonsheng still gives the impression of normal cycling, just with that added flying carpet feel.

    I'm glad to see a 'non-Bafang' mid drive install, since so many Bafang are shown, but this is the first I've found for another brand.

    Hi, there is a slot in the aluminium battèry baseplate. This can be used to get a bolt into your frame. It will enable you to instal battery right way up.

      You're right about the other slot, but even trying that one the result is still with the holes on the frame out of line 😫
      At the end having the buttery upside down is good for me: it makes it even easier to remove it! 👍

    Thanks for the video. I did have a question about connecting the battery to the motor. Where did you get the connector to connect to the motor? Better yet, where did you buy your kit from that may have included the connector?

      Hey, great question since there are thousands of different variants and clones! This is the exact same url where I purchased it www.ebay.com/itm/293241130127 hopefully 🤞 it will be the exact same package, which should include a battery termination compatible with the kit's battery connector (as seen in the video).

    Hi thanks for the video - I'm considering one of these as well. I've a question on that brake lever at 3:55 - if this is a torque sensing system do you really need that special brake lever? I'd presume when you're braking you've stopped pedaling and the motor would have cut out anyway?

      Hi there! You actually really need the brake sensors. Even if it's a torque sensing system, it's not 100% perfect. From the moment you stop pedaling, for the motor to cut the power it passes like a second or two... enough to kill yourself in certain situations at a certain speed. Brake sensors are not mandatory for the system to work: they're mandatory for you to be safe.

    Thanks for the video, although it's more of a test drive video than an installation video ;) I think to make the installation more informative it would be great if you explained more, like why couldn't the battery be installed one way, what dimensions and style of bottom bracket you have to accommodate the TSDZ2, what did you do to hide wiring, etc.

    I was considering the purchase of a Tongsheng mid drive motor like yours so I am looking for anyone who has installed and used one. Looks like your new e bike works well. I also enjoyed seeing your neighborhood. I only wish I could take my e bike to Paris and cruise around. I really like Paris even without an e bike. Ciao.

      For mixed urban areas like Paris this kit is perfect! I like the performances while still let you enjoying the feeling of pedaling thanks to the torque sensor. Hope you can feel this too soon! Grazie

      @@LukeLorusso I recently purchased a Tongsheng kit like yours and installed in on a road bike. It works well. With all of the hills in my neighborhood it gives me more of a workout than my Bafang equiped bike which does not have torque sensing. I hope your bike has been trouble free and functioned well.

      I don't use it since the beginning of the lockdown, so I decided to try building another one in my hometown. A Bafang one, identical in specs but completely different in behaviors

      Hey! I've used it as daily driver from the video date for 5 months in Paris: it's a nice motor.
      I had all kinds of problems related to using a second-hand old bike as base (jumping chain, having to re-register the derailleur...). After having replaced rear wheel, freewheel and chain with good ones now it's flawless! 💪

    Has anyone had experience with the Hailon G56 battery, as far as I can see the 12.5AH have "Chinese made cells" the 15AH has Samsung cells, are they safe, reliable etc?

    super, j'ai enfin trouvé une démo de l'utilisation de l'accelérateur avec ce moteur ! Une petite question quand même, l'accélérateur fonctionne avec tous les niveaux d'assistance ? est ce qu'on peut s'en servir en pédalant en même temps pour avoir une assistance plus graduelle que les 4 modes d'origine ?

      Très bon question, j'essaye d'expliquer ça.
      L'accélérateur est indépendant des niveaux d'assistance : de que tu presse l'accélérateur, le moteur pousse également aux 4 niveaux !
      Cela dit, il as un système de "sécurité" : le moteur ne démarre jamais au maximum de la vitesse. Si tu accélérés au max, il va te pousser doucement et après il va augmenter la puissance graduellement jusqu'au maximum de la puissance (tout ça dans à peu près un second).
      Et ce comportement devient bizarre en pédalant : si tu es entrain de pédaler, le moteur va t'aider par rapport au niveau choisi. Mais, si tu accélérer à cette moment, pour mesure de sécurité, le moteur va ARRÊTER son aide (tu ressens ça pour un second) et après il va pousser par rapport à l'accélérateur (donc oui, tu peux doser avec l'accélérateur l'aide aux pédales).
      Pour moi ce système c'est pas le mieux, ça fait pas trop "scooter"... du coup je fais ça uniquement avec les montées !

      @@LukeLorusso merci...c'est exactement ce que je cherche à savoir depuis un bon bout de temps ! donc si on met une poignée tournante style moto à la place de la gachette,(c'est plus pratique) on peut utiliser l'assistance au niveau pile poil désiré... comme sur un moteur de roue arrière. Ca regroupe les avantages des deux types de moteurs.

      @@christianugolini8493 ouaip... la seule différence c'est qu'il faut gérer les vitesses à la main (parce que la partie qui tourne est au niveau des pédales, différemment du moteur de roue arrière/avant qui arrive à son maximum dans besoin de toucher les vitesses).

      non frena affatto, é come il blocco pedali classico. A volte mi capita di togliere la batteria e andare a motore spento, si comporta come una bici normale. Non si sente nemmeno il peso extra del motore!

      Actually you can't mount a "classic" central-frame kickstand, because the motor will occupy that place also (that is not true with a Bafang mid-drive kit). But you can use a side kickstand: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81d4UbapYoL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

      Unfortunately no, the chain won't move if you back-pedal.
      The same thing happens for the Bafang motor.

    Would you tell me please,between buying this TSDZ2 - 750w and Battery 48v 14.5ah cost £700 to fit to my 7years carrera subway vs buying a new carrera subway ebike £950 what's a better option.?!

      can you paste a link where to see the new carrera subway ebike? it depends from various things: is the new one equipped with a mid-drive motor? then, which battery mounts the new one? what is the state of the older one? etc.

      @@andreiapostol9394 things are complex, but I'll try to demystify. The new Carrera Subway Electric Bike has an HUB MOTOR (not a mid-drive motor), that's the first difference. I do prefer mid-drive ones, but it's a personal thing (more here: ua-cam.com/video/Z32RF3-bglY/v-deo.html)
      That said, it claims 313Wh / 8.7Ah (if you make a division it's a 36V nominal voltage). I'm expecting this to be a 250W motor. Now first thing: what does your local law say about it? I'm not from UK but can you actually drive something more than 250W? Anyway 313Wh on a 250W motor is not made for long distances... or it is, but it will be VERY SLOW!
      In any case, the newer one will be much less powerful than a 750W kit, and way less reliable (since you cannot adjust the power using gears) BUT you will have after sale assistance in case of troubles: that is a goot thing.
      If you are a DIY kind of person, go for Tongsheng or Bafang ;)

    ciao Luke, io ho uma bici che un paio di anni fa al decathlon pagai oltre le 700€..volevo prenderne una elettrica, ma a parità di caratteristiche andrei a spendere 2300€. vedevo i vari kit e 2 sono i comunui..è sono quelli che hai montato tu nelle tue bici..da quanto tempo li hai montati? ti hanno dato problemi? grazie

      mai un problema (Bafang 1500Km, Tongsheng 1000Km) le bici in compenso si xD ma parliamo di normali rogne da biciclette (forature, freni da sostituire ecc). Alla fine credo sia nettamente valsa la spesa

      @@LukeLorusso eh maledette camere d'aria...mi sa che quest'anno le converto in tubless 😉 cmq io sarei orientato per il tongsheng, per me è molto importante pedalare, lo vedo anche come un modo per tenersi in forma. Io vivo a berlino e l'anno scorso ho fatto un percorso apparentemente tranquillo di un 30ina di km..mannaggia tutti in falso piano...😱😱😱 e purtroppo capita spesso, non ci sono salite chissà quanto impegnative, ma tanti km di falso piano mi spaccano di brutto..
      su eBay ho visto che c'è un nuovo modello con il freno integrato (contropedalata) ma come batteria cosa mi consiglieresti? vorrei avere almeno 80km di automia..

      @@albertoblanco6959 eh... se vuoi autonomia vai di massimo in Ah (tipo almeno 19 per 36V o 17 per 48V)
      Cerca batterie di qualità: celle Samsung o Panasonic o marche note

      @@albertoblanco6959 e infatti non cambia niente. O meglio, i motori da 36V in genere non vanno oltre i 500W, perché se si desidera motori al alte prestazioni, quindi alto wattaggio, è ovvio che si preferisca scegliere di aumentare il voltaggio (V*Ah=Wh) e di conseguenza a parità di amperaggio si potrà beneficiare di batterie più performanti.
      Ma per un 500W averlo da 36 o 48V, a parità di Wh della batteria, non cambia nulla.

      This is the declared 500W at 36V, so it might be something like 13 Ah (this was not specified). I did't test it with an ammeter so I cannot be more precise. Rated Speed: 4000 RPM

      Motors are basically 2 models, 36v and 48v then tongsheng controllers let you set amperage to max 16A, so for real the 36v is ~550-600w and 48v is 750-800w. Claimed wattage is more for legal purposes (eu 250w, us 750w), also on a normal bike (not very heavy) and used on normal speeds (14-20k/h) real power used is way below 100w because is pedal assist with torsion sensor not cadence have a great economy (if you don't use throttle), on 36v version with a 13.5ah battery i don't need to recharge even after 100km (~60mi), that on standard controller with stock firmware, if you wish more there is a open source firmware (another controller required) that let you abuse all the settings in any way you wish.

    Ciao, come faccio a sapere se il motore ci sta nella mia bici? Non trovo da nessuna parte gli ingombri della parte subito dietro alla corona(la più ingombrante che potremme interferire con la forcella orizzontale dietro della bici. Per cortesia potresti darmi qualche misura?

      Ciao Andrea, per entrambi i kit non sono riportate molte misure. Come dicevo in questo commento: ua-cam.com/video/Z32RF3-bglY/v-deo.html&lc=UgzV4JUL_gvmUIka9qJ4AaABAg.99OwdyMIiuF99kkx1ElV8p bisogna verificare che "l'alloggio" (o canotto o tunnel) della pedaliera misuri rispettivamente 68-73mm di profondità e 33.6mm-34mm di diametro.
      Tuttavia per questo particolare motore Tongsheng, non si avrà poi la possibilità di montare un cavalletto centrale, ma solo uno laterale.

      @@LukeLorusso eh lo so, quelle misure le sapevo anche io. Speravo che avendo gia il motore installato tu potessi darmi gia in diametro e la profondita di quel cilindro che sta attaccato alla corona dalla parte interna. Legende narrano che abbia diametro 120.

      @@andre198089 vorrei aiutarti ma ho due problemi: il primo è che non credo di aver capito di quale cilindro parli (ma se carichi una foto da qualche parte e incolli qui il link magari ci capiamo)
      infine c'è il problema che non potrò verificare per un po' di giorni, poichè sono di nuovo lontano dai miei kit... spero a breve di poterli riutilizzare

      @@LukeLorusso Ciao, non riesco a caricare la foto su youtube. Comunque volevo chiederti....nel kit ti danno anche le manopole dei freni con il sensore. Ho visto che tu non le hai montate. In teoria essendoci il torque se io smetto di pedalare il motore smette di darmi assistenza e qualora io usi l'acceleratore se smetto di accelerare il motore smette di darmi assistenza giusto?
      In caso contrario avendo i freni idraulici devo prendere i sensori magnetici.

      @Andrea Barbolini questo è un argomento controverso. In molti sostengono la tua teoria e "teoricamente" dovrebbe essere come dici tu.
      Io alla fine le ho montate le leve con i sensori.
      La realtà è che quando smetti di pedalare il motore NON si interrompe immediatamente: c’è uno 0,5 - 1 secondo di ritardo tra quando smetti di pedalare e quando si interrompe il motore. In alcune situazioni, 1 secondo può essere molto determinante, specialmente se si è al massimo dell'assistenza...
      Con i freni-sensore invece si interrompe istantaneamente.
      Ultima osservazione: spesso mi trovo a partire con la marcia troppo alta, quindi prima di iniziare la pedalata tiro leggermente la leva-sensore per non ingaggiare il motore, quindi pedalo e cambio marcia; una volta cambiata, rilascio la leva e il motore riprende ad aiutarmi. Se non avessi montato il sensore, il motore sarebbe partito, causando un’accelerazione troppo forte, sforzando inutilmente la batteria e rischiando di rompere la catena...
      Riassumendo: le leve-sensori fanno molta differenza! Se puoi cerca quelle adatte ai freni idraulici (non so dove trovarle ma forse su ebay...)

      il kit lo si trova a circa 300 EUR, la batteria dipende dalla capienza. io ho scelto un 36V 15.6Ah a circa 270 EUR

Anche limitando la velocità a 25Km/h, una bicicletta che sviluppi una potenza nominale maggiore di 250W (anche 500W) non si può usare sulle strade pubbliche Italiane. Chi lo fa si assume la responsabilità delle proprie azioni (e contravvenzioni).

    I bought 2 months ago from Aliexpress- Poland -Greenergy Electric Bike Store, Tongsheng TSDZ2 500W motor. It only drives on the rotating ring (gas) and the crank pressure sensor DOES NOT OPERATE! Aliexpress REJECTED my complaint! They sell waste!

      that's why I prefer eBay. I tried buying a foldable bike on banggood... a good one (CMS F-16 plus) but it arrived destroyed. No refunds. I said to myself "never again pricy buy on chinese sites"

    Well, what to say - this video didn't help much to be honest. Why you might ask? Well you didn't show anything about the "mechanical" stuff. The stuff that people are interested in. So yeah, not a good video.
