Quick tip for Astrophotography on Sony camera you can assign the function "Bright Monitoring" to a custom button. It just boost your exposure at your screen so you can see much more at night.
Ooh thanks, I'll do this next time! I don't do astrophotography enough, but now that it's getting darker earlier in Australia I want to go out and shoot a bit more :)
Milky Way Photography is my very new Genre/Hobby and I use the Nikon S 20mm f1.8 on the Z7 >> gosh HUGE learning curve for me to learn all this Post Processing and Stacking etc etc LOL Quite daunting for this 70 yr old brain >> but my RAW unprocessed images from my first trip to a dark location in S Africa last week are Stunning. I used F1.8 , ISO 4500 and 20 secs
I'm feeling the itch to shoot more astrophotography, so I think I will be working on my skills over the winter and seeing how to improve :D Maybe I can make some videos about it too! There's something really relaxing and fun about it, I really enjoyed shooting these photos.
The 1s at 6400 night portraits - that's impressive performance, and they look great, fun idea. I don't think I've seen anyone do that! Some clients will likely want that now.
Haha yeah I got heaps of messages on Instagram with people saying the same thing! I on the other hand would love to see cherry blossom season on the other side of the world at this time
between the a7siii and the a7iii, which one is better in both video and photo? i really want either one of the cameras and like to take both photos and videos, i’m experienced with cameras but when it comes to the details of a camera i’m not that good :/ i loved how the a7siii looked in video while the a7iii looked phenomenal as well in the photos, i can’t decide!
They're both good at both, the main issue with the A7sIII and photo is that the images are only 12MP, so if you need to print or you usually crop photos, it might not be high res enough. I think if video is more important for you, you should go for the A7Siii or if photo is more important then the A7III :)
I just purchased this lens to use with my Sony FX6. I’m excited to get it. It gets delivered in 2 more days. I kinda wish I had a photography camera now.
Loved this! The widest I've ever gone is 24mm so seeing what 14mm looks like was so fascinating! On a side note; definitely hope you and Kristina are able to do an updated 35mm video!
Thank you and yeah I'm the same, 14 was definitely fun/interesting to shoot with as I am not used to it. I'd love to shoot with Kristina again!! But need to wait for her to come back to Australia
I loved this! You two are so cute taking pictures together! It made me smile! 😁 The astrophotography was so cool to see! This lens is amazing!! I need to plan how many days I need to make the big switch from canon to Sony! Cause I love this lens! ♥️
I like it when Julia and Dan do the atypical episodes. 👍 Challenges with gear and environments can yield fun content. 18mm is my personal limit before things just start looking weird to my eyes. But for those like it wider it looks like Sony has another winner, despite the oddly shaped and tiny bits of flare. I hope Sony continues to upgrade their standard focal lengths and fill the niche focal lengths as well. Hoping the 100mm f1.4 rumor is true.
Thank you so much! I love making these videos too, it's a little more challenging for me to not have a subject but I really like experimenting and trying out new things :) And omg yesss I would love that 100mm f1.4!!
great video. With the 14mm, you could likely get up to ~30 second exposure if needed and bring that ISO way down, at least from a star trail perspective.
I am searching for a good gimbal lense for the crane 3s and my fx6 but I think this is a little bit too wide Julia’ 🥴 best cinematic greetings from germany
I've been using the G 20mm f1.8 for video which you should check out if you haven't yet! Otherwise there's also that new G 24mm f2.8 Sony just released a couple of months ago which is even smaller, could be a good option for a gimbal as well. I have some video examples of it in my review video :)
How far away has to be the camera to include both lovers fully standing up in the frame? I want wide lens i can't figure out yet how much wide is wide enough. Both lover in elevator scene for example. Extremely tight place and can't go backwards enough.
I used the A7iii for the astro photos! We were thinking of doing the self portraits on the A7siii so we could bump up the iso more, but decided to just keep shooting on the A7III :)
i just bought this lens sony 14mm. I noticed a sound when you press shutter button i hear mechanical "chik" of closing aperture sound in lense while focusing. Is it normal?
Ooh thank you! You can set the camera to interval shooting, so from memory I think I was using a 4 sec exposure for the photo and getting the camera to shoot one image every 5 seconds. We left it running for maybe 10-15 minutes. I didn't get the perfect timing though as I needed to speed up the footage a bit more in Premiere, but we were getting cold so we didn't have a lot of time to experiment.
Hey Julia, great video, it’s the first one I’ve seen of yours so promptly subscribed and I’m about to go and check out more! Just wondering, was that an atamos ninja v connected to the bottom of your camera for screen recording?
Great lens. Got mine yesterday. Only thing is I noticed the inside elements of the lens moves back and forth when you tilt the lens but when I attached it back to the camera and turn it on, it disappears. Is this normal?
Tried to concentrate but the whole video is just so dreamy and watchable I felt myself being swept along with it. This is Academy Award video stuff here. Thank you for making/sharing it! I'm trying to think... maybe it had something to do about some kinda lens? ⭐x5
Haha thank you! Yeah it's a fun lens for sure but not for everyone, like I mentioned in the video 20 is usually the widest I go for video and 24 the widest for photo
A 14mm f/1.8 wide open and no pincushion distortion. Sony 1224 f/2.8 and 1635 f/4 and f/2.8 also. Sigma 14mm f/1.8 does. Also check PhotoPill Spot Stars to check proper SS for camera with MM lens. You were using the A7iii to capture images of stars 8.08s to 16.16s is good. But earlier you said you were using the A7Siii for video and the clarity of the stars is awesome even with a moon.
heyyy great review, really loved it as it showed many different types of use with this lens. I was considering going for Sonys 12-24 mm 2,8 lens, because I thought that I'd then get the 12,14,18, 20 and 24mm in one high quality pack. Do you think you'd recommend this solution? Or would you recommend just getting this 14mm? I'm new to ultra wide, but I wanna do some creative shooting with it. And video as well. I like the cinematic vibe it gives.
Please do a video over silhouette photography with the Sony a7iii! Not many videos explain as well as you do and show then perspectives you do! Keep up the amazing videos
Haida make really good very affordable internal filters for this lens.I got a set (3,4,6 & 10 stop ND’s) I use these in my 12-24 f2.8 gm lens but it is the same setup for the 14mm gm.😀👍🥰🙏
It was at iso 64,000 and I agree it's a little grainy but I don't know another camera that could capture shots like that lol Dan also used the GM 35mm f1.4 for those night video shots as well
I agree on the Damn! Midnight vlogging is now a thing. Had to check comments to indeed see that it was the mighty a7siii. Wish I had a spare 5 grand just for pitch dark usage. Butttttt, god such a mind tear. Thx for the footage nonetheless.

@@juliatrotti I'm doing my very firs video with the 24mm 1.4 gm lens on Friday but I still learning to edit videos any advice you can give me for editing videos would be amazing please 😅😅

Any time when the leading lines converge it gives a perception of extreme depth please redo this shoot for Portraiture in mind 🐣

Could you please tell the name of the App that you used in the video to locate the milky way?

Such lovely energy between the two of you!
