As part of The Lapsed Fan wrestling podcast's Starrcade Memorial Tour, the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer weighed in with his recollections of each event. Here, Meltzer discusses Starrcade 1992.

It feels like the Starrcade episodes have a bit more overall insight than the WrestleMania episodes
@Steven Weathers I’ve heard Bruce Prichard say that, at one point, Meltzer was employed in some capacity with WWF. We all know how Bruce is when it comes to facts, so I wonder how truthful that is
@@johnselwitz5362 Dave admitted in the early 90's that he was paid by WWF for a short period to be a Japanese source / correspondent during the 80's which also led to him agreeing to covering up a Jake The Snake Roberts failed drug test in his newsletter as a favor (by not reporting the true story which he knew instead avoiding to mention the exact reason)
While people use this to totally dismiss Dave's work, Dave is no more no less dishonest then any other "journalist".
Everyone's got their biases and faults and Dave has his, but really there's always going to be a twist on anyone retelling stories second hand.
Didn't even mention the most important things like Rude's injury, Sting's greatest match (thanks to Vader), and the ridiculous format where they made Vader and Sting come back immediately after their match for Battlebowl.
WCW had a really awesome roster in 1992. It's a shame it didn't work.
I always felt late 1989-early 1992 saw WWF and WCW both having strong rosters.
@@Redhotshawntexas Absolutely, just look at the 1992 Royal Rumble and how unbelievably stacked that Rumble match was. Former and future world champions and Hall of Famers everywhere. Fast forward a year later and so many of them are gone

Once they realized ron wasn't gonna behave as world champ, they should have run an angle when williams.is injured at the start of this ppv and they draw a name out of a hat to face ron. Same as when ron won. Then have muta win it. You could have run a ton of dream matches w the great muta back and forth in japan amd the us. Vs chono . Vs sting and lex. Vs vader eventually.
i mean kip was eight to invest in paul and pillman a bit early for a bit more then their current worth but not bad
Both Heyman and Pillman were money. Both young and filled of energy and ideas.
hit the 18:15 mark... and no mention of any actual wrestling matches from the actual show-
the quality of the wrestling on Starrcade 92 was excellent... Windham, Vader, Sting, Muta, Pillman, Steamboat, even Shane Douglas all had great performances... Rick Rude was scheduled to wrestle (and likely win) for the world title vs. Simmons... his injured state is what caused Dr. Death to get the shot at Simmons which ended in a sad double DQ... basically, as far as the actual wrestling content on this show, I could , perhaps should, do a better analysis myself... as far as the "Business aspects of the product at that time" yeah, Meltzer is always good for that
Bill Watts could have never fined or assaulted wrestlers in Corporate WCW, screamed, yelled and cussed people out like he did in 80's Mid South and was doomed to fail, because that was hi leadership style. WCW always brought in the wrong guys. Even though I hated the Memphis style of wresting, they should have made a real pitch to Jerry Jarrett. Jarrett understood the business more than goofy Memphis crap, but that is what sold in the Delta, so that is what they did.
Bill Watts WCW was so boring. I remember get pumped seeing Ron Simmons win the title but they did nothing with him. WCW could've took off here because I remember WWE at the same time being so dull as well until Razor Ramon showed up IMO
“Russo didn’t understand Wrestling” from the guy that pimps AEW that can’t draw ratings or attendance, yet Russo in the WWF was insanely pop culture. The Russo hate is beyond played out. And yes I know his other runs sucked, but how many amazing weekly shows did he write for WWF?
Watts was out of touch. WCW
should hired Jim Ross in 92. Watts push his son down peoples throats and he was horriable.
