- How to get the best in car setup with your android phone, using bluetooth in your car. Automatically opens car dock and dash cam HD recorder from your lockscreen, and exits/stops recording when you turn your car off, as well as saving the time, date and location of when/where you parked your car!
Very easy to setup using the apps Car Ultra Home, Autoguard Dash Cam, Tasker, and ParKing available on Google Play. IWe've done this using wireless charging ont he Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, but it's also possible on android phones without wireless charging (just need to plug it in rather than use wireless).

Thank you for tips on using tasker. I bought tasker 2 years ago but couldn't find any reason to use it until now. I now use this app to auto launch the dash cam app I have installed because I was being to cheap on buying a proper dash cam :P
Awesome setup. I've done it on an old phone, repurposed for an in car "media center", but instead of using Tasker, I saw that Autoguard has an option to autostart when plugged in, and can also start another app, which I've set up to be Car Home Ultra.
It seems like I got all apps to work. You got my thumps up. I'm not yet using a wireless setup because my phone is a Oneplus. I was looking for a rare phone : android, wireless charging, dual sim and separate sd-card slot. Looks like the only model doing all this was the LG G4 dual sim - which performance wise would be a big step back. So I will try one of those add-on wireless charging adapters which I would put under the case and limit the memory usage of my phone.
I have been looking to use my phone as a dash cam device, one thing I don't want to do is be routing cables around my car to power things, so if you are like me and don't want to wire in either a dash cam or wireless power charger holder here is what I am currently doing (not 100% tested yet!)
I bought a decent phone holder for my phone, and an app (previously before watching this), good fast charging battery pack and short fast charging USB cable... I plan to have the phone (I live in the UK so the driving position is on the right but works either location) and have the battery pack either on the dash or on the pillar and plug in the battery back to my phone with the short fast charging cable. I'm hoping this works for me and you but
I have the "tylt" wireless charger it's premium $69...but it's worth every penny...i highly recommend it.
I think this video is genius, my wish is to set it up exactly like this video but don't have a clue. Don't know how to get tasker and autoguard to combine with parking. Genius though

I must start off buy saying; WOW! What a smart app, and thank you so much for enlightening me about it.
What I was wondering, is what your options are if you have an older car? Mine is from 2003, and I'm afraid it does not come with any build in bluetooth. I have, however, recently bought the Xiaomi ROIDMI, which allows for FM Transmitting over bluetooth. Do you know if I would be able to set the app up, so it automatically starts whenever it gets connected to the FM transmitter?

+foxdk hi thanks for the question! Yes it will work from any bluetooth connection so that will be fine! Give it a go, it's such a good car setup I use it for every journey!

Wish Android Auto had dash cam apps so you could see the video feed on the car head unit. Also wish you could just connect your phone via Bluetooth instead of having to connect it with a wire for Android Auto to work.

DJ TITO yeah but if your phone falls out or you knock it out no chance of fucking up your charging port it happened to my dad a while back he was driving and accidentally knocked his phone out of his dock and the charger ripped off in his phone when he tried to pull the piece out the whole port came out with it
The Galaxy s7 Edge he is using has wireless charging built in and you can buy wireless charging windscreen mounts.

Looks like a great setup. Unfortunately my car doesn't have Bluetooth. Do you know if it's possible to use an NFC tag instead of Bluetooth to start the sequence? Also, is it possible to use Spotify as the default media player?
When you start the video a resumé of the apps to be downloaded would be good. Other a little slow and more deliberate for us old fellows would help. I just keep stop start video.

Nice setup, i get it now but i cant find the Background recoding app icon in drawer after install. Only Autoguard app icon.
You need pro version to have that option.

Thank you for a wonderful guide, however it drains the battery like crazy. I have bought wireless charger that you recommend with a fast charging 2.0 cable , should it be 3.0 ? I was surprised it is using battery life at all since it is on a charger, instead of being charged it gets crazy hot and loses about 2% every 5 min. I have s7 edge

Hi Behaving Behaving,thanks for your comment. The main functionality will be fine without data yes, only problem I can think of is that the weather might not update but you can change what is shown in the box I'd you want. However, I'd worry that the battery and processor on the s3 may struggle with this a bit. It will of course have to be a wired charging connection on the s3. I'd say give it a go. Let me us know how you get on!

I have an analog backup camera that turns on when the the car is in reverse. I have it connected to a nexus 7 via a powered usb hub and easycap. The tablet is able receive, and not receive video when the car is in reverse or park. The only problem is, the easycap doesnt turn on automatically, and doesnt close automatically. Will this work for that as well?
so followed this step by step, everything work other than when my phone is locked at the start, car turns on Bluetooth and charging are on it all starts but the app car home ultra doesn't open up and show preview while phone in locked . screen just stays locked ?

Hi Amanda. Yes it will do, as long as you have purchased a seperate wireless charging chip for your s4 or s5 (you just insert it under the back cover). One thing to note, if you do this on the s5 (instead of buying the specific Samsung wireless charging back cover) it probably won't be waterproof any more

+Amanda W no worries, one other thing you may want to do (I know this can be done on the s5) is set your bluetooth car device as a "trusted device" in the bluetooth settings. You need to connect to it to do this, and it just means you won't have to unlock your screen
Same question from me: on Tasker there is no Background Recording in apps list. It's available only as widget from phone menu. How to add it to Tasker?
You need pro version to have that option.
Only problem with this is, in the UK it's against the law to touch your phone whilst even sitting in your car with the engine running let alone driving it.....

+FuNkysara Nil should do! In this example I use wireless charging, but if the tablet doesn't support that it can work off plugged charging

+Darren Pryce it should work. Remember that "background" recording is a seperate app... maybe try uninstall in and reinstalling. Other than that I'm very sorry but I'm not sure. To be honest the preview screen isn't really that important so even if it doesn't work I would still carry on without it

I've had a £30 Dash Cam for 2 years. Works fine but thing is why pay silly prices. Now-a-day's a half decent old or new mobile can do the lot. Better video, focus, sound and can be reversed if there's any problem in the car. Also easier to access clips when needed. Only downside I see is you can't leave it in the car. Though I wouldn't want to leave a Dash Cam in the car, unattended unless it is a tiny covert one.

Hi, all the settings etc are done once then its all automatic, just put the phone on the mount it starts automatically and records, how complicated is that?.
