It's Washington, so if it was going to happen somewhere, it doesn't surprise me it's there... I think between Washington and Oregon, there are many more of these incidents that go untold. I grew up in the shadow of Mt. Rainer as a kid in the 80's and early 90's. That means you also grow up in the shadows of all those serial killers. I hiked some decent Mt. Rainer trails as a kid, even had a picture of me taken while leaning against a random post in the ground over a cliff (to this day, I can't believe that was even a thing).

A couple years back, I was hiking an 8 miler (in Appalachia, not the PNW) and I kept hearing voices. There were no cars in the lot besides rangers because it was a crappy day and it's not a well known park. I had my dog with me, and she heard it, too. First indication something was weird was my dog kept looking at the same spot and growling. As we were heading up a mountain, you couldn't see that spot for too long, but she'd always turn back that way and act nervous. I just assumed there was a turkey or something hiding in the brush that she could smell but neither of us could see. When we got to the top of the first ridge, I was staring out thinking how nice it would be to have land out that way, and I hear, "Hey," from behind me. Like, directly behind me. Before I can even turn around my dog's barking and whining and guarding me. No one's there. So now I have my knife out because I'm actually scared for the first time in a long time. There are houses on the highway into this place, but it's too far for voices to have traveled like that, and it was also coming from the wrong direction. So we keep walking, because we're at the halfway point and I'm in for another 4 miles regardless of if I'd turned around or not. At almost the peak, my dog starts looking back the way we'd come and growling again. I just kept telling her to keep moving. I was freaking out and hoping me being nervous was making her nervous and it was nothing, the voice before had surely just been one that somehow floated up from the nearest house the better part of a mile from where we'd been. Kept walking, and as I'm trying to dismiss everything, I hear a different voice. Sounded like a maybe 5-7 year old kid. Just said, "No!" Not a yell, just forcefully, like someone who's putting their foot down. Again, my dog is freaking out and barking in the direction it came from. As it sounded like a kid, I yelled out, "Hey, are you ok?" It's a super rural place and there are bears, so if some kid had gotten lost up there, somehow, it would be wrong not to help. No reply. Nothing. It was around this time I noticed that all the birds and squirrels that I'd heard moving around earlier were silent. It was February, so I told myself it was just because nothing was active in the cold. So we carried on. Heading back down, there was a hearth right off the trail. It blocked the wind nicely, so my dog and I took a moment to sit in it and eat. I could only see right in front of us, but could clearly hear footsteps coming the way we'd just been. I froze, trying to hear better, to make sure the wind wasn't playing tricks on me. Dog starts growling again. The footsteps stop immediately. I'm trying to get her to stop, but can't. I had a tiny bit of service, being so high up, so I sent my mom a text telling her this place is weird, and to call rangers to the trail I'd gone down if she didn't hear from me by dark. I didn't have enough service to go online and get the ranger station's number. Still no footsteps. I let go of my dog and she runs back the way we'd come, just standing there with her head low and her fur raised. No one there. We're less than 3 miles from my car, and it's all downhill from there, and I moved as fast as I could without eating dirt going down that mountain. The birds didn't come back until we reached the road. I swear it was as soon as I could see pavement, I could also hear wildlife. Until then, it had just been the sounds of me and my dog walking for miles. No traffic, no animals, only walking and breathing and wind. And random voices, twice. There's still no one else parked there. It's almost sunset. The ranger station is closing, and the guy parked outside of it says, "We were just about to go looking for you. Your car's been the only one here all day and we were hoping no one was lost!" I didn't mention the weird stuff I'd heard on my hike, but I asked why there weren't any animals along the trail. He said he had no idea what I was talking about, that he summits the mountains there often to ensure the trails are clear and he's never heard it quiet. He suggested there might be a bear in the area, but bears don't say "hey" and "no" last I'd checked. No reports of similar things happening so far as I could find online, but I did find that there used to be a prison at the base of the mountain, and one nearby that was still in operation, and had some people on Reddit say there might have been an escapee stalking me. But there was never any evidence of anyone else up there besides sounds. It was late winter. There was no undergrowth to hide in. Unless someone was skinny enough to hide behind a tree (you'd have to be anorexic, because almost none of them were larger than a 10" diameter) or fast enough to hide under leaves by the time I could turn around, I don't buy it. Someone else said it was ghosts. Not sure I buy that either. But I have no idea what was happening, and I still refused to go back there unless I have people with me to witness anything weird. My dog can verify for me that something is there, but having seen her acting like that doesn't prove anything to anyone else.

Animals are more in tune with and reliant upon "gut feelings" and, unlike we humans, they cannot rationalize them away. I have a rule that gut feelings always mean something and I need to figure that out, if possible; I never ignore them. The event may be trivial but there are things our minds see and sense that our conscious thoughts do not. Those of our ancestors that learned to ignore that didn't reproduce often. We may not need those senses today as in the past but ignore them at our peril.

I immediately came to the same conclusion. Bell's Canyon is a code phrase for a drug ring or shelter. The fact they didn't act normally is completely in line with someone with mental disabilities or drug issues. The description of the three individuals on the road looking like zombies (meth use) or half naked in ripped clothing is completely believable for our state.

I don’t have a scary story or anything interesting to say about camping, I’ve never experienced anything weird, but these stories do work to keep me always vigilant when I am out in the woods. There is just so much nothing out there in the forest, it’s impossible to explain how alone you feel to someone who has never been there; I personally believe that all 3 of those first stories could have happened, or at least that the story tellers believe that they happened. I have a friend who is an FBI agent who was bow hunting in Oregon. At the end of the day he made the choice to head back camp, he was off trail and a heavy fog came in. He was using OnX for navigation and suddenly someone was behind him in the fog screaming and growling, just behind the veil of the fog. Apparently they are mountain dwellers who live outside year round and practice this type of action to scare people away.

I genuinely believe that this is what the Bigfoot sightings are. When people say why hasn't any dead Bigfoots been found, it's not that they haven't, it's more that people are looking for the wrong thing. They are looking for an ape-like creature. There are skeletal remains regularly found in the wilderness, these are almost certainly remains of these mountain dwellers. The hairy thing can easily be explained away by them wearing pelts.

My bet is some kind of drug thing, either a grow operation or maybe a moderate-scale meth production setup out in the woods. I get your point about the person being more likely to chase someone away if they did not reply to the code question correctly, but depending on the size and sophistication of the operation, it might actually have been more in their interest to follow him if he was close but not right up on them, for a couple reasons.
    1) If they chased the hiker away or threatened violence, not only does that increase the likelihood of a report to park rangers, but more importantly, it *also* increases the likelihood of park rangers taking it seriously and investigating, because it would sound like someone trying to keep hikers away from something. Whereas what he did, if reported to rangers, comes across as the kind of "creepy dude out in the woods" Bigfoot-tier stories that rangers probably hear all the time, and probably ignore most of the time as well. If they're trying to keep a drug operation hidden out in the woods, what the guy did actually makes a lot more sense, especially when you consider that the people who run those kinds of operations are not amateurs. They know how to hide and stay off the authorities' radar.
    2) If it was a drug operation, it is highly probable that they were aware of the hiker long before he got close to their perimeter. Assuming they a) don't want him to stumble on their op, and b) they don't want to give cause for a legit-sounding report to rangers, and c) they don't know whether he *is* a random hiker or a fed disguised as a random hiker, their best bet would be to do what they did--make initial contact to verify he's not friendly, then tail him at a distance until he leaves the area. Looking at it from their perspective, his evasive maneuvers and double backs probably actually made them suspect him more than they otherwise would, and probably were a big part of the reason he was tailed until he left the woods entirely, to ensure he was not a fed in disguise waiting for a chance to double back towards their operation the moment they stopped following him.
Feel free to point out any areas I'm assuming too much or not making sense here, but I think this is a very reasonable explanation for these stories that allows for both "Bell Canyon" accounts in the video to be true without relying on either of them, is reinforced by the fact that drug operations HAVE been found in that area, and jives perfectly with other stories of people feeling like they're being watched in the backcountry around that area.
It also jives with the reality that drug producers/runners, especially those with large operations and probable connection to the cartels (I can't speak for the ones up in PNW but the ones in the Appalachian backwoods absolutely are), are very cautious, very paranoid, and aren't prone to taking chances that might lead to getting caught. They weren't going to chase him off for the reasons mentioned above. They weren't going to kill him (unless they had no choice), because they're as aware of anyone the kind of thorough search operations that go down when people go missing in national parks--that would almost certainly lead to them getting found out. What's the best choice with the least chance of blowing up on them? Follow him until he leaves.

    • @ditta7865
      @ditta7865 26 днів тому +5

That is what I thought too.
Where I used to work in my country, we were in the country and there were a lot of hills and national parks.
The locals knew the look of the drug people. They had black Vans with black windows and usually would come up and down the roads on Harleys. Locals also knew where they were but would not say it to you. Only give you a rough estimation. It was a weed production because when it was time to harvest it was around the same times as one of the local wineries and you could smell them actually sampling the product when the wind would blow a certain direction and I knew they were very close to us and the locals said that they never threatened people but they would try and scare them and use army tactics to creep up on people getting too close. Scared them enough to make them leave and not come back but not enough to tell the cops.
Funny thing was the cops knew they were there. It was a small weed production not big enough for the cops to give a sh*t about and they weren't doing any other kinds of drugs but was connected to some kind of biker gang that was providing the cops with their weed.
Which I found this information out later from a friend of mine who's a local who seems to get all the information unwillingly. People talk to him without him wanting them too. The guy who sells the weed literally said yeah he gets it from the people in the hills and the cops buy it from him.

I think your explanation makes the most sense. When we lived in a very average suburban area in the bay area, we had some very strange neighbors. Now we lived there for 29 years. The first 20 years the family that lived there was very nice and their son was friends with my son. After they left a series of renters came in. In the last 2-3 years we were there, a young couple moved in. Every day they smoked skunky weed in the backyard. This was after it was legalized in California so whatever...
Out of nowhere they started having problems with us. Firstly our morning glories were destroying the fence. When my husband went to talk to them about it they were extremely aggressive and angry. And paranoid. We took the entire plant out. Not worth it to us. Other stuff they yelled at us about: why do you have a camera facing our house?? It's a doorbell camera. Why did you build that structure behind our fence? It's a shed. You're pulling our fence down! No, it's been there about ten years and the wind storms lately are taking it down. YOU PULLED OUR FENCE DOWN, WE HAVE PROOF!! Well, I'd love to see it. Did we pull down all the other fences that came down in the neighborhood during the storm? While throwing the boards of the fence savagely in a pile, someone called the cops to go talk to them. This went on for 2 years. I wasn't ready to move at the time we did but we were really at our wits end with them. Nothing they said made sense. We could do nothing to make them happy. They accused us of all sorts of crazy things. I was so happy to move. After we left, my mother came by to water the sunflowers in the front yard. Again, he had a fit and yelled about this to the new owner.
So happy where we live now.

I used to live north of Seattle in Granite Falls, I will tell you the forests are sooo creepy and eerie. In the rainy and cold seasons everything is covered in moss and it's like a fairy forest, beautiful. You can lose your sense of direction so easily. You also get a sense that something is watching you almost always.. The other thing I will say is the opiate and drug crisis is pretty bad there, so there are some strange characters. I used to call them "river people" because they used to smell like musty wet clothes and usually lived by the river.

As a former local to the area, there is no way it would take days to hike out from Rainer, unless you want it to. There are too many roads and trails. Sure there are places to get lost, but you can get to trails and roads within a day or so. Most likely Bell's Canyon is a code phrase like you said. I just think it is one for mushroom pickers. They will guard those with just as much vehemence as illegal growers. There are Chantarelle mushrooms that are worth a lot of money and can only be picked at specific times of the year.

Stories like these make me glad I have carried whenever I'm out in the woods. Firearms are important tools in the wilderness, if you get lost there's the universal "3 shots to call for help" rule and you can use it for defense against people or animals. If you can, carry a gun when you're going out into the wilderness, you never know when you'll need one. Make sure you do it legally though, and if not an actual gun then CO2 pellet guns look real enough and still sting but are definitely not as good.

it was a local bootleg-amusement part that opened in the 70s and closed in the 80s or 90s. my parents remember a slide that looked like an elephant trunk, a carousel with horses and zebras, a pig petting zoo, a really really rickety ferris wheel that gave my dad a lifelong phobia, and a rope-climb thing like in military movies. they said there was other stuff too but they don't remember specifics.

This ones almost in my backyard! I live on Hwy 12 east, about 2 hours' drive from Rainier. Have been in the park a couple times, but not hiking. Last time I drove my car partway up the mountain and parked near a waterfall and just sat there and read a book for a while. I wanted to stay longer, but I started to get an eerie feeling, so I left. Was still a beautiful trip. As for creepy experiences, I personally haven't had any big foot related, but my mom has a story passed on from my dad. One day he was out riding his bike and had pulled over on the side of the road for some reason or another and heard something big moving around in the woods. This would've been in the Wynoochee valley, in the Olympics. He didn't think it was a bear and was a bit spooked by it, so he hopped back on his bike and started it up. When it roared to life, whatever was making the sounds tore off through the woods away from him, as if it had been startled. When he went back the next day to see if he could determine what it was, he found a huge pile of poo not far off the road. He'd literally scared the shit out of the thing. Non-bigfoot related, also in the Wynoochee valley, my mom used to go out foraging deep in the forest near where we lived there. One day she was out foraging by herself deep in the woods and came upon a human skeleton. She kept her calm and came back home to call the cops (this would've been in the early 80s, long before cell phones were everywhere). However, by the time they arrived and she led them back out there, the skeleton was gone. I dunno if it was the same day or some days later. As for me personally, a creepy story I have, again from the Wynoochee valley, one day I was out with my mom for a walk deep in the woods. We came upon a natural clearing (meaning, not a clearcut, just a regular meadow, I guess), and were walking through it when we came upon a stump that must have been over 6 foot high, as it was taller than my mom. It was overgrown, so it had been there a while. Every inch of the stump was studded with nails of various lengths. Imagine Pinhead, but a stump full of rusty nails hammered in at various angles. There was no sign anyone had been in the area recently, so it had been sitting there a while, fairly deep in the woods, as I recall. I have some ghost stories from that time, too, but I'm not sure this is the channel for those.

Hey, that reminds me of something that happened to me when I was a kid.
I'm from Brazil and my parents have a farm in Minas Gerais state, where we were at the time. In this opportunity, a friend of mine from school was there with us. (My mother was the teacher and his mother worked in the school as well.)
Either way... It was a long time ago, I was around 10 to 12 years old... And now I'm 46.
So, if my memory isn't failing me... We went up a mountain there, on my father's tractor, to see the cows. And, for some reason, we (me and my friend) decided to go back to the farm's house by foot.
So, we came following the old road there, which has an open area to one side (our right) and a forest on the other.
Getting to a certain point, we stopped, debating something... I don't remember what, but it was probably about toys or something... Then I grabbed a rock and threw in the forest. As it felt... We heard heavy 4 feet steps, running away.
Next thing I remember is that we looked at each other and sprinted away to the house.
I still don't know what it was... But I'm not sure I want to know either!

After listening to this vocalization, my inner dialogue decided to recast the part of "stranger in the woods" in my imagination. This means that the role that was previously being played by a mid 1980's Matt Dillon, has been hijacked by the character, Zelda, from Pet Semetery, circa 1989. As if she needed more lines than just, "Raaaachel! Raaaaachelllll!" Now I'll forever picture HER following me whenever I'm out in the wilderness alone. Thanks a lot, Aiden.

Grew up out on the woods of Western Washington, my parents still live out in those same woods.... I mean.... Green River killer was a thing i remembered geowing uo with and eventually aged INTO his victim pool group. Having spent a lot of time hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and camping all over the Olympics and Cascades from the late '80's to today.... There is weird shit out in the woods, and there are even weirder folks out there, that can look pretty normal. Can confirm, facts.
My dad knew a few former military men that went Orivate Investigators, and there was a point where they would stop following a lead/person. If they went past Belfair, out towsrds Tahuya... Yup. That was a big ile "Nope! Not going out there."
We lived on a dead end road right by a gate into a tree farm for the longest time. Like, you could walk fifty or so feet from our front door to the tree farm gate in the woods. And let me tell you, there quitw a few times i would wake up in the night with my dad talking to County Sheriff's, with their party cruiser lights going BECAUSE there was a car chase to that gate. My dad ALSO knew the tree farm security/maintenance men from years of living by that gate. So many strange stories and YET my dad had purchased a seasonal pass every year so we could ride out on the trails and logging service roads if we couldn't get out in the actual mountains. Loads of weird stuff happened. Was not uncommon finding things that most folks would find odd, yet eventually, it becomes somewhat "normal" to those that live there. *shrugs* i live in the Midwest now and have been here for about 10 years now and yeah, pretty much similar oddities here that those that have been born and raised here dont find odd, but perfectly normal that i find a bit... Unnerving. Eh. Every place has their weirdness.

If you watch a movie called Backcountry, it really gives you a feel for what it’s like to be out in the middle of the woods and to have some random dude just sort of show up and not leave. It’s set in Canada and is actually a really horrifying movie, graphic as all hell, but it really does a good job of giving you that feeling of “he looks normal but this isn’t right”. If you’re on a busy trail in the summer, yeah you’re going to see people, but when you’re way off in wilderness like that in a non-touristy area it feels incredibly WRONG to have someone just standing around your campsite.

@ yeah we don’t really do that in Canada haha, it all has to be unloaded and locked up and only hunting rifles are allowed in most places. We do carry bear spray though, and you better believe I will “accidentally think a stalker is a bear” if I’m in that situation!

I grew up in Oregon and spent years exploring the forests and mountains there. There is definitely something not quite ordinary in Oregon and Washington. Couldn't tell you quite what it was but there is definitely something. If there ever was a place for a rarely seen humanoid species to exist that area would be a great place to hide.

I knew someone long ago that told me they were hunting in Alaska for a week solo, and said he absolutely had two nights where he was certain, there was a human, screwing with him, in the back country. It creeped him out because he was flown in, and when he was experiencing it. It was night, and where he was hearing it. There was no flashlights, just his. He ended up calling out for a pickup, early, and leaving, because he didn't want to be there. Big burly guy, very practical, no-nonsense kind of individual. "It was just very uncomfortable noises at night that was not attributed to moose, bear, wolf, Elk or any animal that is large." This dude doesn't talk about bigfoot or even cares. Stuck with me and I just remembered it.

    • @Simplechioces

OH, he also said whatever it was acted like a pack of wolves containing a kill. Loud, "testing the electrical fence" style behavior. In close to camp and than out to safety, but zero canine noises. Just other unrecognizable vocals and lots of disturbed foliage noises.

Im 22 now but when i 13 i was out hunting with my dad in Mendocino National forest in northern California, we had drove around a lot and hiked all over when we were going along this road next to a cliffside with a stream at the bottom. When we on the road we came across a older man with his rifle looking down over the cliff side and we decided to stop and see if he has seen any deer in the area. This man had a weird vibe and he turned around deadpan looked at my dad and said "i got people in my sights" and went back to aiming down the cliffside. I was very unsettled and my dad could tell something was off about him so we just continued to drive down slowly and than look down the cliff side to see a family swimming in the water. I just remember my dad saying no matter where you are no matter what animals can be out in the wilderness humans are the most dangerous thing you can come across.

I'm responsible for dozens(if not hundreds) of bigfoot "sightings". I used to live close to a national forest, my favorite pass time was pranking the tourist campers on weekends and through the summer. I wouldn't try that now though simply because people are a lot more trigger happy now than they were 20-30 years ago.

Im from the Netherlands, we do not have stories like this here. I drove through Tillamook NP with my husband and 2year old in 2018. At one stage we needed to get out of the car on this desolate parkspot next to a high cliff, in the middle of dense forest. I have never felt such a scary feeling creeping over me, as if i have been watched. Later we learned about bigfoot stories etc and now im into stories like Aiden is telling here. Just because i understand, i know the feeling of being watched now and i cannot let go how eerie this felt. And..I want to understand..I have traveled quite a bit, but the way I felt there, I have never experienced it somewere else.
