Wow what an education you have provided us. So much to considering this story. The resourcefulness of indigenous peoples to survive and also that the clash of cultures can bring havoc. Above all, the susceptibility of humans to religious cults is universal.
It's just one of far too many tragic examples of the harm that is likely to be caused by irresponsible missionaries introducing their foreign superstitions, especially in such a half-assed manner as it was obviously foisted upon the people of the Belcher Islands.
@@0okamino Sure, but I don't think the issue is whether the religion is foreign (to them) or not, it's just religious thinking in general, I mean they were seemingly primed by their own stupid beliefs accept other people's stupid beliefs so readily, it doesn't much matter whether these superstitions come from within or from other people . . . I mean if Hindus in India are practising barbaric things like "Sati" (the practice of burning a widow to ashes during her late husband's funeral), and Christians turn up and cajole them into some other idiotic practice . . . then I don't much care where or who these things come from, it's just the generalised issue of religious / magical / superstitious thinking, it's poisonous wherever it comes from.

I like this little throwback into some historic crime. Being a fan of Brief Case and The Crime Reel, this one was right up my alley. It's also a case I'd never heard of before.
Thanks, Jiles. LIKED! 👍
You and another channel go into history, geography, etc. and I love it, wished my teachers were as interesting, & in-depth, in other words, another phenomenal upload, packed with facts, and what was going on in those times👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻💕
Geographics
what’s the other channel? sounds interesting
He has to, you need context to understand some things.

So prolific and quality, this is by far the best one. Thanks for your efforts Jiles, appreciated.. 'preciated.
This is my favorite channel of all time! Thanks for giving us you time Jiles!
This is my favorite channel and I'm impressed by all the content of late.
Bravo, Jiles! Thank you for the upload! Brilliant delivery, as usual! ❤
"even though Charlie was God...someone had to get the mail." 😂🤣❤
Oh, wait...Peter was God and Charlie was Jesus! Lol!
Either way, it was a fantastic line!
😂🤣😂🤣
Jesus Christ! This story really makes you think about social hysteria, messianism in hard times and overall,in our human condition. This chapter is a unique masterpiece...
As an aspiring sociologist this is fascinating!
Holy crap!!! What an insane case! I've never heard anything about this! Thank you so much for covering it!
#StayEpic
#NeverStøp
Wow what a story, only 17 minutes into the whole video, definitely one of your best yet.
Fascinating story, but I can't help but think that self proclamation and religion were ultimately to blame.
Great narration 👍🏻🇬🇧
Yup. Every time.
that's literally exactly what the video was about.. you act like you had to deduce that lmao

Bad white people. Bad Bible. Apparently no accountability for personal decision and action though
this was honestly one of the most interesting and informative true crime videos I've ever watched
Such thorough research on a really interesting and sad case. Thank you!
Great video. Random: I don't know if it's photo shop enhanced but that shot (24:53) of the igloo all lit up with the night sky behind it, is beautiful!
Wow what an education you have provided us. So much to considering this story. The resourcefulness of indigenous peoples to survive and also that the clash of cultures can bring havoc. Above all, the susceptibility of humans to religious cults is universal.
Religion and religious thinking, never fails to deliver.
Bet you wouldnt DARE write that if it were islam you hypocrite...There is a difference betwen nutcases like in this video, and good christians and the christian faith. and if you didnt know, the west was and the progress we've had, the reason we live so well in the west i BUILT on christian principals and morals! that comment of yours? reeks of the inability to grind your two braincells together to form an intelligent comment....
I've canoed almost the entire length of The Great Whale River just about 200 miles I believe back in the 90's. It took about 28 days and we didn't see a single other person or sign of recent humans the entire time. No re-pros for supplies. Wild and rugged country.
In spite of the bloodshed, this was a fascinating episode to me. I'd previously never even heard of the Belcher islands and never taken the time to learn much about the culture and lifestyle of Inuit people who lived there. Thanks.
Fav channel! Gonna resist the urge and save this for the morning tho, like saving the best bite for last, imma save this vid for my drive into work tomorrow morning 😌
Update, fantastic vid as always Jiles! Thanks for doing what you do. Unique case today that I had not heard of before which I always appreciate.
You do an amazing job covering these obscure and unheard of cases. You do it so well too!!!!!. You are impartial and succinct. Very clear and direct. So Thank you, i know your job is not easy. It takes me time to recover between stories, i cant imagine no down time to recoup. Hod bless you and what you do.
You have such a captivating voice and amazing stories that I can hardly wait for you to release a new one!!! I have binge watched all of your videos! You definitely have a subscriber for life! 💯
I love this Channel. You are very thorough and its always interesting, although Death, this kind, is very sad, you present it with so much empathy. Thank You.
Good morning Jiles! Thank you for all you do 💕💕
Edit: religion ruins everything
Actually the pilgrims came here because of religion. Their will to read the Bible wasn't legal in their time and location. The USA was born
And those descendants went on to wipe out the people already living here.
As I said, religion ruins everything
@@bensantellanoActually the USA was not born, it was invented years later and made if very clear that it was in no way based on any religion.
It's people that ruin everything. If you want to ignore the genocide that happened in atheist Soviet Union go right ahead. People kill people. There's a scripture that says many shall come in my name and deceive many. Even the very elect, but don't believe them.
@@MasterCedar Theoretically, the USA has separation of church & state; but in practice, US politics seem to be far more influenced by the evangelical right than many other western nations that don't have secular constitutions.
Oh I was just having a hankering to hear your voice and narration I come across this perfect!❤
I have never heard this, thanks for covering this. Just another community made even worse after Christianity was pushed on them. Very sad
Just when I was looking for something too watch you uploaded 🙃

What an unexpected story, time and place. I thoroughly enjoyed this. You really tell unique stories and this one was really above and beyond. The research must have been extensive but incredibly satisfying. Masterful work.

Hubby and I are both big fans! Thank you!
Best documentary voice ever! Keep up the good work. Peace!
I’m still loving these night uploads 👍
I’m always so excited to hear something new. So much true crime is recycled. Xoxox
Very good video. I've sometimes wondered what isolated, small populations may resort to when faced with an unrepentant and dangerous bully/criminal in their midst. This confirms my suspicions perfectly. They took care of the problem. And then it got worse with religion.
Truly, one of your finest episodes.
I have watched every video and listened to your podcasts multiple times, this is by far my favorite! Sincere thanks for your outstanding work!
The KING of podcasts!!!!
