I miss the good ol days... look at me and tell me what you see... i look at you and tell what i feel... WAAAAAHHHH
Don't know why, but this reminds me of The Crow. Maybe its the tone of Ledger, but I definitely get Crow vibes.
It looks pretty stylish in a 90's way.
I actually really enjoyed this film. It kinda feels like "Diet Constantine", but that's okay.
Thats a rather accurate descript imo 👌🏼😊
"those children are demons"
Ah I see this movie is based on a true story
Fun fact
The Order is a nexflix series about a kid uncovering the mysteries of an occult society rub by his estranged father, and the kid also becomes a wherewolf put of nowhere
Basically your typical netflix show
which is why I had to put the sin eater in the title so people wouldn’t get confused.
@@deusdeaconReviews Thank you for that. I had a 'hunch' to watch this movie again. Now I know I will find it under "The Order." The story feels like having learned something, but in a hollow way nevertheless stylish. It 'smells' like incense and powerful yet hidden witchcraft. No category, indeed. Not even independent. Beautifully strange.
17:42 Maybe this was foreshadowing for Ledger's casting in the Dark Knight.
This movie feels like it was written by assembling the pieces of 3 other better movies that either don’t exist or never got finished. It’s sad because this sounds like a really cool idea that’s fighting with itself to be something either much more comic bookish (like Underworld) or much more grounded and believable (like The Exorcism of Emily Rose) but it ends up as a [high] C+ version of Incarnate.
They can't be better films if they don't exist
There is indeed a Marvel Comics villain called the Sin Eater. He’s a Spider-Man baddie.
Sounds interesting I liked the film Knights Tale. Almost reminds me of Constantine at least we may get a sequel to that with Keanu Reeves.
You do such good and enjoyable reviews, Deus. Thanks for keeping this going, all this time, for us to watch and think about along with you :-)
I believe that sin eater is a spider-man villian
Crazy man with a shotgun
totally distracted by the shirt. purchased from the invulnerable vagrant :)
I'm loving all these consistent uploads, Deus is helping to kick 2020 depression in the ass, cheers mate
Here here! 🍺
I see we have a fellow Critical role fan.
Also
Ever thought of reviewing the TV series Sleepy Hollow?
never seen the show so not really
HEY! Thats a Pumat Sol shirt! niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice
Are you wearing a pumat sol shirt? Are you a critter?
yes indeed
@@deusdeaconReviews Nice! You just keep getting better and better.
Had to ask - were you aware that there was a Night Gallery Episode based on the more traditional, Welsh Sin Eater? It was called Sins of the Father and starred Richard Thomas.
Don’t even know what night gallery is
Yes! I was going to mention this. The family was starving in that episode.
When I saw "sin eater" that is the first thing I thought of.
@@deusdeaconReviews Well, very late to the response, so I'm glad I rewatched this.
Night Gallery was an old TV show by Rod Serling, after Twilight Zone, which leaned more towards horror elements. There are a number of episodes, including the one I mentioned above, on UA-cam.
Also, where you mention that the belief in Catholic beliefs being so easily excepted surprises you.... If I saw a Catholic priest command two children two return to hell, and they turned into birds in response, I'd be quite a bit more credulous than I currently am.
I remember watching this movie at least twice and I still have no idea what the movie was about.
This is one of those movies where I recognise the cover, the title, several of the plot points and characters, but I do not for the life of me remember watching this film. (For reference, I recognise the "Sin Eater" title)
Seems like a paradox, somebody nice enough to 'deserve' sin eating shouldn't need the service to begin with- just do your regular confessionals.
not necessarily because (using the films logic) excommunicated people or people who take their own lives we saw would need it.
@@deusdeaconReviews
Kinda narrows it down unless you make the catholic church pure evil.
@@Raximus3000 You mean they aren't? 😅
@@thegreatstoneddragon9432
There were never evil for the sake of it, no more than the average organisation who wants power. The protestand propaganda made them look like serial killers while they were closer to mafiozos.
Sin eater was also the villain that made Edie Brock lose his credibility and eventually end up becoming venom
Remember "Night Gallery"? How it was definitely hit-or-miss! That's where I first heard the term "sin eater". I can't remember the episode's title but it took [lace in Ireland (I think) and the ritual involved the "eater" showing up at a deceased house, where a huge table of food was laid out. I got the impression that the ,ore sinful, the more food. Richard Thomas was the main character, the son of the village's "sin eater". His father dies and his job gets handed to Thomas' character. The ending was unsettling, as the son has to gorge himself on literal pile of food left to him to make up for all the sins the village believed his father had eaten. I believe it fades to black as he's unhappily engorging himself.
And, yes, I know how much this memory of "Rod Serling's Night Gallery" really dates me!:P
Anyone else notice at 29:20 the lady in the background just disappearing?
Based solely on the title, I immediately assume this is a forgotten Marvel movie based on the recurring Spider-man villain The Sin Eater.
he's certainly mentioned in the video at least, so kudos there
@@deusdeaconReviews :D
I love this Channel
Deusdaecon Reviews as always love your reviews you always go for B status cult movies Quirky films to review
For some reason when I think back to this movie, I always compare it to A Knight's Tale and Ninth Gate.
that make sense to me
How did I never hear of this film? Lived in the uk when it came out, was it not big over there? Great review as always! Even thou film didn’t look great 😂 it has made me want to give it a cheesy watch.
Nice Critical Role shirt!
Yo Deus check out Reign of Fire! That movie is a blast!
Deus I know it's been said before, but you deserve far more subscribers. Just keep at it!
This film works... in mysterious ways -
Isn't the "can't live with 'em " priest King Robert from game of thrones?
yeah, mark addy
'Mara' triggered memories of 'Devour'...and now once more I must try to obliterate all recollection of that film.
Unless your columbo, lol.
You need to finish the puppet master series they release a lot more and I wanna see your opinion on them xD
Yes I know they released a lot more and thats why I wont, Because its a never ending parade of crap and life’s too short, oh and before you tell me “but the new ones are good”, No they’re not.
First time I ever heard of a sin eater was from a movie called "The Incredible Journey of Doctor Meg Laurel." I think that was the movie.
A modern doctor returns to the Appalachia Mountains to set up a practice but everyone is stuck in their ways. They use old medicine and child brides are a thing. A sin eater come in to eat food from the dead to take away their sins. Probably the reason I watched The Order.
Oh and the sin eater was played by James Woods
Off topic for the review but I was curious on what you think of Matt Ryan reprising his role as Constantine as a main character on the CW DC universe show “Legends of Tomorrow”.
I dont mind answering random questions, but i do have a twitter you can contact me on, so you wont have to qualify the questions next time, But I do think its a good thing DC doesn’t have much continuity between its series so it was a nice surprise I haven’t seen the show admittedly but I like that that character has stayed around.
@@deusdeaconReviews thanks for answering. You should check the show out sometime. A bit more silly than most of the DC shows but Matt Ryan still does a good Constantine.
Bizarre security system lol, made me laugh and you mentioned Columbo, a classic not had had a chuckle in ages new sub!
Thank you so much, Glad you’re enjoying the videos.
@@deusdeaconReviews I am, you really break it down well and your funny!!
I remember this as "The Sin Eater" ... but feel like I've heard of "The Order"
I don't remember if I ever connected the two. I know I've only seen Sin Eater once, and never the other.
I remember seeing this movie when it came out. Since then I remember nothing about it except for the final twist...thanks for trawling my memory and bringing this.
Thanks for reviewing this film! I'll have to give it a watch.
Just seeing Peter Weller's face at 4:02 got me excited. I haven't seen him in a long time. Also I was raised Catholic so you showing me this film was actually pretty cool. Interesting ideas sprinkled with some nostalgia of me growing up. Good review as always man.
maybe the decided against "The Sin Eater" because it sounds you're saying "The Senator"
Not a great movie. Back in the day I liked it. Found DVD a few months ago and not so much... I always was like "Aww. It's a Knight's Tale reunion."
With Garrett suggesting he stop being a priest to be with Mara, it would be a nice interaction for me if it wasn't that in this it assumes heaven is 100% real. I'm not an expert so maybe giving up being a priest to be with a woman isn't considered an issue and he could still get in doing it, but it sounds like something that'd at least put it in jeopardy over just staying a priest. Honestly if I knew 100% heaven existed as a paradise and hell was the nasty torture place, I'd probably become a priest just to make sure.
I love this film despite its terrible reviews. The philosophy and religion themes are interesting and makes you think ... unlike the majority of films.
Great video, happy to finally be getting notifications again
Honestly, Garrett should have been the movie's protag. at this point.
Hey, @Deusdaecon, do you think you'd ever review Fallen (1998) with Denzel Washington? I thought that was an interesting story.
Ive not seen nor even heard of it, but I feel you may have given away a part of the film heh.
@@deusdeaconReviews 😅😅😅Oops. 🤦♂️ Sorry, man. Didn't mean to spoil, so I edited that out. But in all honesty, it really is underrated. It was directed by Gregory Hoblit, the guy who made Primal Fear, Frequency, and Fracture.
@Deusdaecon Also, what about The Rite (2011) with Anthony Hopkins?
if I was gonna do exorcism film I’m hardly gonna start with that one am I.
@@deusdeaconReviews I suppose not. It would be best to start with the OG Exorcist movies.
I forgot about this movie!
Great job as always!
BTW you beard's on fleek today!
Didn't realise sin eating originated in Wales. Just goes to show you stuff.
Idk why but for some reason that shitty Max Payne movie has entered my mind. I guess because of the demons
YAY ~ BRIDGET CLIP IS BACK! *Happy Dance* 😄🎉🎊
heh, it has been a while
Sin Eater.... You mean Ghost Rider?
You should write the sequel and pitch it to shudder
I came for the review, but I got a history lesson a diet Constantine and possible new research material in return. 10/10
I aim to please
Great review and very interesting.
I always assumed the sin eater accepting that paint was a sign that he wants you to pay something you think's worth your sins, but that he doesn't actually care about the worth of what he's taking
I mean thats a possible assumption, its more logical to assume he takes the painting because it doesn’t lose or change in value where as simple currency in a century or two might not even exist.
Hey man hope you can review the 09 syfi film ghost town staring billy drago
why would I do that ? thats “quite obscure” to say the least so you’d have to give me something to go on.
I'm the 355th 'Like' 🤓
robocop vs the joker
3:35 The Winslow!
I want a film about a renegade Vatican accountant who teams up with a social worker and a journalist to take on corruption and abuse within the church
Well keep looking I’m fairly certain theres something out there for your specific needs
This movie was a baseball game few innings of nothing then bam home run few innings of nothing bam triple.
The head of the Jesuit Order is considered the black pope...
okay well this is “the dark pope” so no potential for copyright infringement.
Heath would've made a great Constantine.
I completely 100% agree with you there.
I liked the chess joke 😊
Deusdaecon, male kecleon.
If you get the chance eventually, @Deusdaecon, have you ever checked out the supernatural crime noir, Fallen (1998) with Denzel Washington? That would be a decent one to hear your thoughts on, especially with the lore about the "fallen angels" and the fear of trying to fight the ethereal, like demons, you can't escape or kill.
24:05 Oh no, it's the Vok! Someone call Optimus Primal!
I think it's extremely underrated.
I kinda felt the movie right off, because it reminded me greatly of "In The Mouth of Madness," only slightly different.
The Winslow does serve a purpose beyond being an object.
you may misunderstand, a macguffin isn’t pointless by their very nature they serve a very integral purpose.
@@deusdeaconReviews I guess I thought you were operating under the usual definition of it.
that is the usual definition, I literally say the definition of a macguffin in the video.
I was trying to re-find the section where you describe it but I couldn’t for some reason so I just went for the Wikipedia page.
yeah and quote from Wikipedia “ a MacGuffin is an object, device, or event that is necessary to the plot and the motivation of the characters, but insignificant, unimportant, or irrelevant in itself.” that doesnt say pointless
at 29:17 the woman in the background totally disappears?! is this in the final cut of the movie??
no that's my editing of the scene, the scene plays a lot slower in the film so I had to speed it up by removing the pauses for the sake of brevity and the content id gremlins of youtube
I stand corrected said the man in the orthopedic shoes. keep up the great work man
I DESPISE absolutely DESPISE the "slap the flashlight/torch" memotic.
OMG... I think I remember going to see this movie. It's almost like Déjà vu but maybe it was just so bland it's erased itself from my memory.
Looking back at it again it did have some interesting ideas but I certainly don't blame younger me for forgetting it.
This could work really well as a show. Where you could delve deeper into the multiple storylines from the movie. They couldnget equal time and be fully fleshed out.
Huh. Didn't pin you as a Welshman of all things. The voice just doesn't ring out Welsh to me.
there are many welsh accents, it just so happens that where I grew up most people have an understated to an almost non-existent accent that only appears in rare circumstances
@@deusdeaconReviews That's fair enough. I knew about around a dozen English accents and I myself have an accent that is different from a lot of typical southern US accents since my family is from the Appalachians, but the most I knew about Welsh accents was from "How Green Was My Valley" and Assassin's Creed 4, so not very much.
Pumat makes another appearance! Bidet, Deusdaecon. Us Critters see you!
I really quite liked the film when I was a teen :) generally enjoyable supernatural type film :)
I actually watched this movie in theaters when it came out with a couple of friends. The thing that we were all annoyed about is that the previews were basically the entire movie... like from start to finish. We had already seen all the important bits, we were like "it was interesting enough but could have saved our money".
I know it as the order
25:13 "he tells him it's pointless, futile and boring." Are you sure Eden isn't just accidentally reading the producer notes in the script?
Perfect time they did just wrap up the best?? Sin Eater arc in the Spider-Man comics
Oh man, I love your reviews. Keep up the good work.q
Thank you. Another great review! Well researched!
This was called the Order when I seen it in the movies. I liked it very much.
Excellent video as always, cheers bud 👍
Mayan astrology zodiac does have a sin eater mayan zodiac sign it is in my chart!
I havent seen this since it first came out but I remember liking it
You are brutal and I'm here for it!
I thought this video was quite positive all things considered, this is definitely not me being brutal
@@deusdeaconReviews brutally HONEST!
I am a simple person, I see a new video made by Deus, I like it instantly.
Same here
I hear Simon Cowell was a fan of this film.
Oh, come on. Don't leave. Someone had to do a Sinitta joke.
As strange as it is, I love this movie.
Gotta love just a good ole movie review
Nice review. Ever seen the Johnny Depp movie The Ninth Gate?
yeah
@@deusdeaconReviews Ever think about reviewing it? That, or Angel Heart?
not seen angel heart, and with the ninth gate I’d find it very difficult to talk about considering all the stuff polanski got up to.
@@deusdeaconReviews Fair enough. I'd recommend Angel Heart. It's a very effective supernatural film noir.
"can't live with em, can't live with em" is hilarious

for a few years now
@@deusdeaconReviews Ok, I wasbinging your content the last two weks and it was so much, I just clicked the next video. I guess I would have noticed, if I had seen them in order.
And by the way: Every Friday and Saturday I rewatch HPL-Month videos. Thanks for the content.
32:52 - 33:07 I kinda was wondering about a similar premise involving the Hellraiser series. After watching Hellraiser 1 and 2, and reading a few Hellraiser comics, I've been pondering a tv show about human detective converted cenobite who fights crime in both forms; during the day, he does typical police procedural, but during the night, he let's out his cenobite half who kills sadistic criminals using hooked chains or by bringing their greatest pleasure/worst pain to life upon them.
i dont think morals should be part of a cenobites existence regardless of what the comics or even Clive barker thinks nowadays, I go with the original idea, “demons to some, angels to others” they don’t punish, they just bring pure sensation, to those who desire it.
@@deusdeaconReviews True, I guess. Still, it's just a thought to keep in mind. Also, have you ever seen the 2004 series, The Collector? That's an interesting series about a man named Morgan Pym, a fourteenth century monk who became the Devil's "soul collector" after selling his soul to save the woman he loved, and now, during modern times, he tries to redeem people who have sold their souls to the Devil, who has now come for payment after their ten year time limit.
