How much you spend is all relative, depending on a number factors, such as income, fixed costs, and on top that comes entertainment, etc. Our expenses are relatively high since my step-daughter is at university and my son in school. We also run a couple of cars. However, we own residential property apart from the one we live in and that gets us a decent income. We also own commercial property that also generates income. Compared to the UK, where am originally, from and HK, where I lived and worked for a number of years, the Philippines is extremely cheap, about 15% of the costs of living in those areas. With any budgeting issue the key is to remain realistic.

If you are a westerner that wants to have a lifestyle and it is more expensive in the west. The quality of beef is not American standards. If you get local meat it is not slaughter is done in sanitary area. Filipinas are family oriented what is omitted is their kids are first parents are second, then their siblings then their husbands.

I could write several chapters on finding a great WOMAN, not a pinay girl, but I understand your point. Dating is a lot alike all over the World, but with a pinay a serious relationship always involves her family.
IMHO, owning a car over there is INSANE! Your roads remain a natural disaster, so better buy a tank. HA!
I've decided to never move to the Philippines for reasons that could fill in the rest of my book, but I'll just do a video of my wedding and the reception afterwards that was held in Hong Kong last May where the Chinese citizens were fantastic. sir, another misconception is that when a vlogger says paradise, they don't mean perfect, instead, they mean a beautiful place like paradise and it wasn't paradise back then where people were perfect and life was easy.. because I read something nasty comments by foreigners, mostly Americans, that's the reason they went to the Philippines because they saw a vlogger saying that the Philippines is paradise, then when he was scammed and saw poverty and slums in other parts of the Philippines, he said damn, I thought it was paradise lol

One thing you missed that’s important to cover, probably in another video, is Health Care. If you want to go to the newer hospitals in Manila you better have insurance. Cost's escalate quickly. No where near as bad as the US but for Europeans who are used to free State healthcare it's going to shock you. There is also the concern, as we all get older, in needing things like organ transplant. Here in the Philippines, forget it. Organ donation is not common here and the few that are available only go to the 'top' people. Then there is the other issue of after life care... where it is common in provincial cemetery's to only rent a spot for 5 years and if you don't pay again... the remains are removed and left in a rice sack in a corner of the cemetery. I've been here over 20 years, would live nowhere else, but I'm realistic about this country. Most foreign UA-cam bloggers in the Philippines are just not realistic or they are looking through a very specific lens and trying to convince themselves all the other issues don't exist.

Obvious thoughts but good to sum these up for many. In my opinion Philippines is actually "the same" as the US or Europe but with a different swing, nothing else. When one cannot accept the different swings of any different country better to stay put where he is. I lived in various countries and that is my simple assessment where generally speaking Americans seem to have the most difficulties to adapt new things and I think mostly because they have it too easy in the US although I do not speak financially maybe, but when that issue is the main reason to move to another country and expect all the things including romance will go easy without hard work it may end up in disaster. There should be courses like.... WTF will happen when you move to another country...... Great video John😃😃😃

I've been to the Philippines over 10 times. One thing that I found out is that when it comes to dating that the more beautiful the Filipina is the more the chances increase that they have bad intentions. Yes there are a lot of great women in the Philippines. However its not easy to find them.
Yes it's true that there is a lot of good people there in the Philippines and yes there is a lot of bad people there in the Philippines. One thing that irritates me the most is always getting the questions of are my shoes original or authentic, what type of phone I have, and can you recommend a friend to me.
When I go there to be with my wife for a month it's amazing how many new friends start coming around. My wife gets aggravated a lot by many of her neighbors once they find out that she's married to a foreigner. My wife said it's absolutely amazing how many excuses people try to come up with for that "help" Especially the time a lady suggested to my wife that she should start a "loan/pawn business" to help the people of the barangay.
Definitely cannot live there on $500 a month. If you decide to live out in the province areas then yeah you probably could live on $1,000. $1500 is a good modest starting point

I've been all over East and South East Asia and can say that South East Asia, especially the Philippines are bad news if you're looking for a partner who you can have meaningful conversations and discussions with. The type you can go with to an art gallery in Italy and see some old master's work and they enjoy it too. Or architecture, history, literature, culture whatever. If you go there and check the expat's relationships over there you'll see a clear trend in the overwhelming majority 😂. Let's say the relationship is on an intellectually very basic, rather primal level 😂. So basically I don't date there at all, just ONS and pay for play. If you're looking for some depth in your partner you're looking in the wrong place. That's way easier to find in other countries.

So how can you take a wife? Don't think your going to convert a filipina to be like you, it's not going to happen! They will leave your ass! Rule number one, never make a filipina angry! Never ever! That's world war three!!! Rule number 2 be kind
Rule number three, a filipina is not a sex doll, use it don't abuse it! If she don't want to give you some ass you respect it! She will leave you! Rule number four, don't go in the same way you came out your last relationship, learn and change. If she leaves you then you was mentally, physically or sexually abusive.

People keep making these videos about vloggers saying they live in PH for 500 bucks, but I've only ever seen them doing that as a one month challenge, or something like that. Seems a bit of a strawman.

I think the problem for many people coming from the West thinking about moving to the Philippines is taking the Western mentality with them. I'm thinking of going there when I retire and I think one of the hardest parts of moving somewhere completely different is a change of mindset. I hope I don't end up being another annoying Westerner in the Philippines 🤣

@@leemcarthur4334 Fair enough. You sure as heck aren't getting a western middle class lifestyle for 500 bucks. That's open air hut on the beach type of money. Have fun when the typhoon comes!

@@genericchannel5899 I'll be going there hopefully with around $2,000 (£1,500) a month budget but I'm going to try to bring the costs right down with growing lots of my own food and setting up solar panels and storage batteries to cut down on monthly bills and avoid the many brown-outs that they seem to have there! Maybe keep some chickens for free eggs!

Atleast 15 percent of people are nice and the rest are rude, just saying, and that's the realization

Perhaps you’re the one being rude to begin with? People will only react to your attitude not just in PH.

I watch Vlogger's from the Philippines, but I never said I believe them. Trust but verify I moved to the Philippines 15 years ago, but I still find some of their topics interesting, but I usually have my own take on the subject matter. Our 3-Story home is less than 10 years, but we average around 10Kpesos electric, 1Kpesos water, 2Kpesos Internet. Another $300 for food, $300 for going out to eat, $120 gas if we travel by car. So our budget is around $2000 a month and sometimes more

Realistic numbers. Electricity here is very expensive. In the 20+ years I've lived here, the general cost of living has risen significantly.

unless YOU (FOREIGNERS) meet a financially independent or middle-class type Filipina & family, EXPECT to be hit with financial assistance from relatives! the locals see YOU (FOREIGNERS) as a MEAL TICKET out of poverty. UNLESS you and your future partner/spouse agreed to NON-SUPPORT of relatives, and stick to it, you'll be better off looking for your partner in your own country. i am a Filipino and i warn/advice my FOREIGN friends to be very careful and not be carried away with their hyper active gonads....lol

Lol. I agree this is true some of the time but it's rarely been my experience in 5 years living here. I think the important thing is to see at the beginning of the relationship the expectations
