It's almost criminal that they didn't include Dolly's song. It was a bigger hit than the movie, and the movie is fantastic.
Yes! 👍
Hell yea!!!
So true 🥰
But wouldn’t it be a cooler setup if you saw this trailer on tv and then went to the theater to see it to then be blasted with Dolly’s song for the first when actually watching it
The song may not have been written yet.
As a modern female office worker I LOVE seeing the sorts of equipment they used in offices back in the day and what the general set ups were, how they did things, and of course....the fashion. !!
My mom works in an office in Boston she says sometimes they still use the type writers is that true for you as well just curious
Wow a creative and clever trailer, that encapsulates the movie's premise and tone, while also not spoiling the whole thing in the process. Yep. Don't make em like this anymore. I've seen this movie before but not this trailer and I really like it.
I saw the film, and this trailer does not do it justice at all.

AD GUY: ok. we have this idea for a trailer that won't feature any scenes from the movie, a weird rhyme and only 5 seconds of the stars, what do you think?
MOVIE EXEC: All this talking is cutting into my cocaine time.
John Field Show this needs more likes
Trailers without movie scenes are TIGHT.
And the result is a pretty good trailer.
I think this is an INGENIOUS trailer!!!!! VERY CLEVER!!!!! I hope someone on Trailers From Hell does a spot on this!!!!!
It's a great trailer
It's crazy that this trailer is from 1980....and still so accurate in 2023.

Down to the ideas
That what I was thinking
How...?!
How is there a trailer without the song?!
Bruh
The song is my favorite
The song was written for the movie
I'd guess they either didn't want to pay the licensing to have the song in the trailer, or that the song wasn't completed when they made it.
The music they used goes better with the typing than Dolly's song. Maybe they just wanted the song to be a surprise at the end?
This is the period when I started working in business offices out of high school. Nobody had a computer at their desk--all electric typewriters and 10 key machines. Was a really big deal when the executive secretary got her new IBM word processor. We were all standing around in awe.
The lucky ones I guess. I have constant migraines and my eyes are doing this weird thing lately and all bc I spend 8 hours a day staring at my screen..
Back when trailers didn't give the whole plotline away, show all the best scenes and spoil the movie. :)
this trailer also doesn't make people want to see the movie lol. it's all button pushing and paper filing
@@saltyninja Sure it does~! It made _me_ want to see it!
There was a great article I read about the movement 9to5 and the origin of this movie titled "Revenge of the secretaries: The protest movement that inspired the film 9 to 5". It's a great read and a good acknowledgement of the ladies who took matter into their own hands.
I just read that article and it's so interesting
There was once a secretary who felt overworked and abused at her work so she went to work at a assembly line and...
she regreted the change of the job.
9 to 5 is an adorable movie.
Love seeing the girls stick up for themselves.
Dolly Parton is perfect and so gorgeous inside and out.
I suggest this movie to anyone searching for an innocent laugh.
Sounds Like Dr Seuss for adults?
Why, just because it rhymes? Yeesh!
I used to watch this with my mum when I was a kid.
Happy 40th anniversary to “9 to 5”!
Loved this movie!
Released the same year I was born!
I'm writing that 9 to 5 is my favorite comedy film. i'm also writing that on Thursday May 16,,2024 Dabney Coleman died at age 92.
Ahh. The days when the trailer didn't give away the entire movie.
How did NOBODY come to think slapping your secretary in the butt was inappropriate ?
They did. Watch the movie. :)
Good question!
It definitely is inappropriate, but the issue of Sexual Harassment did not become an openly discussed idea until the 1990s and again with events of the MeToo Movement in the 2016-present time.
Watch the movie. It was ahead of its time. You won't regret it.
At all.
@@markjohnson9455 you are explaining without watching the movie :/
patriarchy.
I remember the movie extremely well. The plot revolves around three women who are sexually harassed by their boss who is portrayed by Dabney Coleman. The three women get a measure of revenge and their boss ultimately resigns ending his tenure. They did start planning for a sequel but scrapped it after mixed reviews.
this trailer is everything
That's veteran film & TV character actor William Schallert narrating the trailer. He's best known for playing Patty Duke's dad on her mid-60s TV sitcom.
This movie is 20 years older than me and I have to watch it!😂
Have you watched, already?
I'm curious to hear what younger people think of this movie.
@@edisonlima4647 idk how to watch it. it's not on Netflix or Amazon so...
So it Goes I’m totally watching this on my fire stick ... I’m 26 and I’m a sucker for old movies and music. Love it makes me wish I was born in another time
@@lilbebegirlxx you're not the only one who wishes that my friend I wish I was born in the older days as well I was born in the early 2000s and I liked it but I'm more of an 80s girl😁😁😁

This was the movie my parents saw on their first date together
William Schallert doing a great job narrating.
You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe ! Never heard the late great Mr. Schallert doing any narrations before now!
Love Dolly. Im about to start those long work days till 5
I've never seen such a great trailer that pulls you in but doesn't give you anything away!
I love this trailer for this movie more than any I’ve seen. :D

It is very good movie.

Looks like a winner, that's for sure! Does anyone know when it's coming out? I hope it will be released in theaters and not just be a movie on one of those "streaming" services.
2020 anyone?
1:18 well that escalated quickly.
I was not aware William schallert did narration for trailers.
RIP Dabney Coleman 1932-2024
LOVE THIS MOVIE
Amazing cast and storyline. It's not great but its one of those feel-good movies.
They should do a male reboot of this film with a female boss. I don't see how it could go wrong.
REST IN PEACE MR COLEMAN!

The concept of This movie was remade in Tamil as Magalir Mattum
this first lines of the movie sounds like me at my job....oh the Irony of it all
This gives me ideas for my narcissistic bully boss LOL
grace and frankieeee
I love this movie and I love women’s rights but I feel for the men and don’t like to see them get hated on. They just need to do right by us and I’m thankful to the ones that do and the ones that don’t need to watch this. I love Dolly but on Veterans Day I gotta say it took Jane way too long to apologize to our veterans and reporters and protesters may have fooled her but we grieve what outlet country’s soldiers experienced then and now. It rips our heart out, stomps on it and makes patriots want to scream for Justice for us and our country.
With all the remake's that they do .. I think they should do a remake of this movie with a more up-to-date version
This movie is so clever. And very in the now.
WOW WEEEE......... I HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE MANY TIMES I NEVER GET SICK OF IT 😅 THESE ACTORS ARE SO FREAKING AMEZING THANK YOU FOR ENTERTAINING ME! SPECIALLY DOLLY SHE HAS THE BEST ENERGY OF THEM ALL.

Some things never change . Overworked and underpayed😅
Such a fun film!
I saw this movie in the theater. I was probably 10 or 11.
Fun fact: the original script was of the 3 women trying to kill their boss
Wonder Woman 2 trailer.. we have come a long way
It didn't even have the theme song.
This movie needs to be mandatory viewing for all young feminists so they can appreciate how much things have changed since 1981.
Just because things have changed for the better doesn't mean there aren't still many changes that need to be made. And that goes for anything, not just feminism.
Feminists already get it. People who think feminism is bad should watch it as an example of what feminism is about.
💛
Sounds Like Dr Seuss for adults?
Love this movie
The old secretarial pool, which became obsolete with the advent of the personal computer.
Why, just because it _rhymes_ ? Do you think Dr. Seuss _invented_ rhyming?
Who’s here because of the song?
I was here hoping to see Sterling Hayden. He's in the movie but doesn't seem to have been included in this trailer. Bummer! Oh, the humanity....
"please" and "ideas" don't rhyme guys.
It's a really cool trailer but it needs to feature the stars more! Maybe if they busted into that office and started to shake things up, all to the tune of '9 to 5'.
I'm here because of Jim Jefries

No. Current trailers give away most of the plot. This one didn't. Older trailers are way better

The voice of the one of brain of my childhood was in it meaning Ms. Valerie Frizzle from The Magic School Bus.
0:10- ...Here's Kevin Spacy in Swimming with Sharks. Oh wait, it's the comedy classic 9 to 5.
0:26- I miss when trailers felt like the short educational films rifted on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
1:17- I know you're having enough of working for 1980 Matt Lauer, but seriously, you probably shouldn't bring a gun to work.
1:30- ...Will be lead out of this filing cabinet we've stuffed them in, only if you make this movie a box office hit.
“20th Century Fox presents. Jane Fonda. Lily Tomlin. And Dolly Parton. “9 To 5”.”

This trailer is a mystery to me. Was it cut prior to the film's finish? They don't use any film footage. Period. No lines from any of the three stars, no enticing footage cut out of order to build intrigue without giving it all away (Mr. Hart flying out the window, Judy firing the gun, Violet racing out of the hospital with the gurney and the deceased man, Mr. Hart in bondage, Judy declaring her newfound love of M&Ms, Dolly Parton in bed with a man, and the biggest blunder - no use (or repeated use) of the lush's, "Atta Gurl!"
OR, was it decided that the three stars faces would be draw enough? That creating a relatable story ending with a dark sinister tone would drive every beleaguered 9-to-5'er to the movies? Using bland footage & music that reads more like stock footage would feel like seeing "Kansas" in the trailer but being gifted "OZ" in the theaters? This would be my guess. Back then it was pure word of mouth that drove up ticket sales and kept films going strong to become box office hits like this one. I guess I solved my own mystery?
In any regard, it does what 99.99% of all other trailers fail to do - not give away the story, the ending and the best jokes.
Notice not a single one of the feminists care to promote this one

I bet you tired all of this do you ever sleep or drinking wine alot wine get drunk
Great film, terrible trailer - gives a 50s vibe for this very 70s/80s movie. Totally misleading. Doesn't tell us anything about the story.
In other words, it doesn't give major plot details to rob you of enjoyment.
@@yosefdemby8792 But it's possible to make an ad that neither gives away too much nor too little.
@@sineadbradyfan2151 It tells of the sexism they have to face, and their frustration and fury.
Wow, electric typewriters, paper files, no computers, no cell phones....so dated.
It was made in 1980. That was the technology of the time.
