  • Rails of Canada Vol. III:
Take a journey through time as we explore the Canadian Pacific's railway line between Nakusp and Slocan BC before it was abandoned in March 1989. Told through historic photographs from my personal collection, we primarily focus on the town of Rosebery in the 1970's and 1980's.
Though I own many of the photos in this video (unless stated otherwise with credit on screen) I did not take them. They were taken by a gentleman by the name of Jerry Quan, who was an avid model railroader, and loved to photograph things to build in miniature later on. Jerry was often accompanied by Hans Madson, who owned H&D and Trains Canada. After Jerry's passing some years ago, I obtained his extensive photograph and slide collection, and aim to use it to help preserve Canada's railway heritage.

Awesome video. Thise engines seem timeless. If you told me it was a 1988 model i would believe you.

Thank you for a great revisit to Roseberry. I was fortunate enough to photograph a work train loading out of Roseberry in early 1980's. Great video.

That's awesome, you were lucky! I got the photos in the video and quite a few others from a late family friend. He would go all over the place taking photos of trains and buildings in and around railroad towns to build models of them. Many were in black and white, but he had a bunch of colour slides and some photographs made starting in the early 70s. Glad he documented all the stuff he did.

Thank you for creating this overview of the Slocan Sub and this unique operation. It's clear you did your research and helped to provide more of a sense of how it all worked. Constructive criticism: 1) Consider changing your music. I found the slow sad pieces to be too overwhelming and making the video feel like a murder mystery. The video needs more "light" energy, especially when talking about its operation. 2) at 9:57, that's not a D10. It's a D4.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun to make.
I used the slower more emotional music to make the video feel like something of a memory of what once was. Almost as though recalling better days in a bitter sweet sort of way. But I'll keep that critique in mind for the next ROC volume.
I know that there is a photo of a D4 near the end, but "D10" was an overall nickname for CP ten wheelers despite being factually inaccurate. I'm still not sure why that is, as they weren't the first D class built for CP.
That and I didn't have a photo of an actual D10 lol.

Hi Just came across your video and notice it says #3, We are curious to see your others. Please check us out at Nakusp Rail Society on Facebook. We did notice one picture you said was Rosebery and it actually was New Denver. May we share your video over to our page? Do you have any other info on the N&S ?

Hi paul, you're more than welcome to share this video anywhere you'd like! The other Rails of Canada vintage scrapbooks are older videos, and will soon be remastered with narrations and re-uploaded to this channel, as well as other volumes added. Also - could you point out which photo is New Denver so I can correct it in the description please.
      Glad you enjoyed the video!
      -Thanks, Rob
