  • In this second video of the series I visit even more grain elevators. It really is an amazing thing to think when some of these were built there was no heavy machinery to use it was all done by hand.
    We also get a rare look inside an elevator that is being taken down in pieces to salvage as much of the wood as possible.
    I hope you enjoy this look back in the past.

      Thank you, sadly, the skyscrapers of the prairies are disappearing at an alarming rate even since I have filmed that episode three of the elevators in this episode are no longer there

    we also went to a company which made portable elevators on 4 wheels. Ours on the farm were wooden barns not much larger than a garden shed but we did have a circular one too. caroline

      Oddly enough Ive never in the 4 years I had the drone hit a bird. they seem to stay just far enough away moving slowly seems to help

    It is a shame to see these old icons of the Prairie towns.
    The amount of wood that went into these elevators is hard to believe.

    • @TonyVRailfanning
      @TonyVRailfanning  Рік тому

      And several of these have since been torn down believe it or not just in the last year

    Excellent video, Tony! The view from the drone looking down into the elevator that was being torn down was interesting. One doesn't think much about the construction when driving past them. Sad to see them slowly disappear. I remember going on trips with the family when I was a kid and you always knew where the next town was because you could see the elevators in the distance.
    Cheers, Jack

    What in the world were these tiny windows for way up in the top of these elevators and who would be up there looking out????

    • @TonyVRailfanning
      @TonyVRailfanning  3 місяці тому

      That is the area where the grain spout can be turned to dump the grain into the appropriate bin. There is actually a hand operated elevator that you can ride up to the top. Remember that lights are not used in many places due to the fire hazard.

    Hi there. when i worked in alberta back in the 1980s we had a grain elevator and railway at our local town of Redwater. I wonder if it still there?

    • @TonyVRailfanning
      @TonyVRailfanning  3 місяці тому

      Redwater still has at least one remaining wooden elevator

    was the elevator being dismantled the one in milden?
    if so why are they tearing it down and are they reusing the wood?

    • @TonyVRailfanning
      @TonyVRailfanning  Рік тому

      Yes, it was being torn down and they were reusing the wood elsewhere

    also are they gonna tear up the railway line between conquest and herschel from what I understand that line has been abandoned for quite awhile. Also is the pool elevator in conquest used for storage or do they use it to load railcars?. Just wondering because in the video I saw 4 grain hoppers by that elevator

    • @TonyVRailfanning
      @TonyVRailfanning  Рік тому

      At this time there is no plans to remove the line that I know of and yes they still load grain cars at the elevator there. The tracks still show use when I was there
