- Ever wonder how former Canadian Pacific Alco S-2 switcher 7019 was put on display at Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary, AB?
This Ghost Pine Film Productions Documentary Short titled "Last of the Firsts" shines a light on how this switcher was put on display at the park, as well as some history of the locomotive's origins.
This short film was part of the GPFP film line-up for Historic Calgary Week 2023, and boasted positive feedback from the audience at the event - and at last has made it's way to UA-cam!

Nice seeing both of these rare locomotives well preserved. I wonder if it may be a good idea to build a roof over them to help protect the engines from the weather.
It’s not just the weather. From what I’ve heard Road salts have bean beating up 5931, and that’s what caused the rods to get in such horrible shape

Amazing there is no mention of Calgarian Jim Lannigan, who was most instrumental in getting the engine to Calgary from Winnipeg in the 1980's.
Very true! Jim Lannigan was indeed a massive part of getting the loco to Calgary. He was present at the Historic Calgary Week showing of this film in 2023. The film focuses more on the action of moving the loco, as opposed to the people involved. But perhaps some day we'll revisit this story in far greater detail, as many parts of 7019's history was glossed over in this short for time's sake.
Great documentary, thanks for producing this!. It's cool to think that CP 8410 at 2:43 is still running today in revenue freight service, a unit that spent it's first decade of service alongside steam locomotives.
I'd rather have CP 5931 be restored to operation by the CP steam program at Ogden
why hasnt some of that oil money gone into making the Selkirk run. Damn I would like to see it charge over Rogers Pass and Field Hill.
It funny that Calgary got a stream locomotive in calgary but the province has no money to replace Second World War-era Hangar 11 as the historic building north of downtown was destroyed by a fire that houses Alberta Aviation Museum in Edmonton the Sea Hag Danielle Smith is not for the province all the money will be directed for calgray

the locomotive was saved by a private organization. not sure how this relates to the government...
