Toni might be a bit of a Dead-head -- she introduced me to this song a while back, and now I love playing it. It was between this one or "Tennessee Jed," which we will do at some point. Keep those requests coming, btw!

Lyrics to "Sugaree":
When they come to take you down
When they bring that wagon 'round
When they come to call on you
And drag your poor body down
There's just one thing I ask of you
Just one thing for me
Please forget you know my name
Darlin' Sugaree
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
You thought you was the cool fool
And never could do no wrong
Had everything sewn up tight
How come you lay awake all night long?
There's just one thing I ask of you
Just one thing for me
Please forget you know my name
My darlin' Sugaree
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it up now Sugaree
Maybe I'll meet you at the jubilee
And if that jubilee don't come
Maybe I'll just meet you on the run
There's just one thing I ask of you
Just one thing for me
Please forget you knew my name
My darlin' Sugaree
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Simply Beautiful!!!!! In so many ways.....! What a gem to have discovered these two magnificent Ladies who both ooze endless amounts of talent!!!! I could listen to this over and over, hmmm., just Like I did in the old days with the dead rocking my cassette player in my car/van going from one venue to another,,,,, Be Well Ladys and Peace!!!!
Ah Toni! your guitar playing is out of this world! absolutely awesome!
I just wish I lived next door - imagine hearing this coming through the appartment wall?!
Jerry’s smiling!!!
More Dead please i.e.Franklins Tower;Sugar Magnolia; Ripple
Whatever!!! Toni you smoked Sugaree
I felt it would not be right to leave without saying thank you.
keptyeti : thank you!
@@yccmzimmy Thank you.
erik thompson thank you
Yes! Thank you!!!!
Thank you, so much!
This is the best cover of this in the history of DeadHeadedness. Two years of listening to this. Awesome.
I can’t believe Reina and Toni have only 129K subscribers. It should be much closer to a million
It will be one day. The music business confounds me. These two musician's are much better than the (so called) stars that plug up the airwaves. I don't how to catch a break now days other than tour your tail off and hope the streaming services notice the increased demand for their music.

James Taylor once said recently that, with the advent of the internet, it's easier to open your own door. But, when you do, the room is already filled with a million others, trying to make their way.
Maybe it's better for their own health or personal happiness not to be superstars. Depeche Mode for example are superstars. Think of critical songs like 'Everything Counts' and what Dave Gahan said during the 101 tour (tour film): It's a permanent pressure to be excellent in every concert because fans paid a lot of money for their tickets. Everybody knows about their problems with drugs... Maybe the Reina del Cid way is the better one. It's always a pleasure to watch their videos. ☺️
Over last 12 hours, I've watched (almost) every video by these two brilliant performers and still haven't figured out who I love more.
d nebula easy love them both
Aye.
d nebula ...totally agree ....thank God for you tube "
Toni
brialiant !☺
I love watching the body language of a lead guitarist that really get's into playing a song. You tell Toni loves jamming this song.
So here we are again..this time listening to some 6 year old songs by you wonderful bards..Thank you.
Even though I'm 70, I still play drums in my band and I can recognize talented musicians like Toni and Reina as true. It is a pleasure to listen to them, while they delight us with rare pieces of absolute skill with voice and guitar, I am sure that if we gave them a box of biscuits, these two phenomena would be able to play with that too! They are really good artists, in this world of fake musicians who play accompanied by MP3s, overdubs and embellishments in the control room, they don't, they are good at them and in a disconcerting way. Two beautiful faces, clean of good girls, perfect voices and instruments if I were 50 years younger I would travel from Italy to the USA just to be able to play with them ...
How come everyone has to mention how old they are?
@@Jeff-jg7jh I don’t know, I’m 63 btw 😂
Reina and Toni, NEVER a better duo !! And I saw this song done by the Dead in Ventura in 1985, Ventura County Fair.
So good to live in a world where you two can do this! Sublime and soulful. I'm grateful for both of you. Such musicianship - you're the real deal.
my my......just a
sittin out on the porch with a cup of coffee and the Dead, performed by two lovely artists who do tribute to that Iconic tune. And another vid added to my library! A rendition of Sugar Magnolia would be o so sweet! Thanks again ladies. 🌹 ✌🏻🇺🇸
I have probably watched this video 50 times. It's as good the last time as it was the first.
This is my favorite. Toni's melodic playing is just beautiful and Reina's voice sits so well in here. 😍😍✌🌹🌹🎵🎸💥😎
Do an other Dead, please.
As a 67 year old Deadhead I want to thank you for this wonderful interpretation.....peace
I love this song, I've watched this clip several times now. Toni's guitar work is so smooth and effortless. This is the best cover song of Sugaree out there. Great work ladies!
You nailed it.. Excellent!
Right on✌️
I have only discovered these wonderful musicians in the last couple of months. Many commenters have attested to what a pleasure they are. Just one to add one thing I'm not sure that I've seen: The chemistry between Elle and Toni is such a delight to see. Their banter suggests such fondness for working and playing with each other.
Jerry would have been proud! Spent many nights and days with this song.
Jerry IS proud to hear these bards do justice to all of his songs that they cover.
There's something about Toni's guitar picking that makes it irresistibly appealing. It's hard to find the right words. What about "tuneful"? This is an inadequate description. She's good.
Her guitar playing makes me addicted to watch these videos. She’s musical to the core and like that guitar seems like a part of her being! :) love thee guys!
@@sharondotson6219 Guys ? See 2 girls
Toni is a phenomenal tasteful minimal guitarist.
Love every note she plays
how when why with feeling
@@JasonCunliffe Tasteful is a description I like. There are literally millions of guitarists - thousands of good ones - it comes down to personal preference and I love Toni's sound.
She is an incredible guitarist and musician.
Excellent version of this GREAT Dead song!! So smooth and crisply done!!
These two are absolutely brilliant. They make the pocket and cozy right up in it...
This just gets better and better every time I watch it.
I have watched this several times over the past couple of years. I keep coming back because it is so well done. It sounds great from the guitar work to vocals. You gals are excellent. I really love all your stuff.
I heard this by the dead live many times...never ever better that this... thank you'll
just discovered these two young ladies and have been listening for hours on end. LUV it ! Sooooooo refreshing to hear the stripped down music.
I first saw Jerry in 1972. I love when his songs are made "fresh" and brought to life by a new generation. Beautiful rendition! Thank you from an old DeadHead! You know our love will not fade away...
72 at Folsom Field in Boulder for me. These gals are perfect.
So diggin, Toni! Sits there quiet as all get out then out come wicked heartfelt riffs that give such colour to the performance. She’s always right there!,.
One of my favorite songs.
SUCH a smooth voice
- Deadhead for 15 years
Both are very talented muscians. Some of the old stuff that was a couple of decades even before G.D.
I love toni's gitarplaying❤
RIP Jerry. Well done...always loved this song...brings back so many memories.
Top class...again. I first came across you two a few years ago .....going wild with recording on a busy railroad track ,dodging freight trains while recording an outdoor acoustic version of Jambalaya....Knew you were committed artists then.......
Many thanks for the rich pudding of your other recordings, love n hard work. Thank you.
Finding you and Toni has made my life better. I'm so sorry it took me this long, but you have a fan forever!
I had to hear this today, RIP Robert Hunter. Thanks.
Love the 2 of you together, I can't miss a Sunday morning, beautiful voices and the music is fantastic, Reina's voice is so good sounding and she plays the gutiar very smoothly, Toni plays the gutiar with fingers that dance over the frets, and I love to hear her play the mandolin, keep it coming Ladies, I haven't enjoy music like this since the 60's thru 90's, so keep it coming. A loyal fan. Thank you 2 and your bass man and the one's along the way with you
Published on my birthday and one of my favorite songs you should let fans choose songs on their birthday if it's on a Sunday.
Love the Dead. Thank you for a beautiful cover. Toni is a guitar goddess.
Love the liquid sound of Toni's guitar! Comfy sweet laid back rendition! So nice! Go Reina! Go Toni!
cadwalladee agree 100%
Could not agree more... Toni's guitar is so sweet. These two together are so mellow.
'
Reina looks kind of jealous on Toni's solos, but she must know they match so great one another. Love their music... bigly :)
john doe
Sweet sweet Sugaree ! Very cool rendition . thanks you dangerous duo you two !! Haha.. " Shake It Shake It Sugaree.. Just Don't Tell 'Em You That Know Me" !!!
Toni is a gift from God, sent from above.

Yep still watch it everyday after work.
Me too Dave D almost every day for almost a year now Ria from Holland
Thanks Ria !
Here's the first use of "Coffee Cheers" - according to Reina! See the intro to "Save Me - Aimee Mann" (Thus Spoke Zarathustra - literary reference for Reina!)
This is easily one of the best renditions of the song I've heard.
came for the dead. stayed for the dead. good stuff, great little fills and riffs. good vocals.
Enjoyed my coffee with y’all this morning, nice. Thanks.
Simply outstanding. Never heard any better cover song of GD
I don't know a lot about music, but I know I like listening to Reina and the rest of the gang. Thanks for the hours of enjoyment I've gotten from your videos. I wish you luck and success.
This is the best cover of any song of all time
Toni Lindgren is so good on guitar.
Both these women are super-talented phenomena.
she sure is..great duo.
She is no Molly Tuttle, THANK GOD, LOL. No, when I listen to the speedsters, I need to come listen to Toni, the real fi·nesse

intricate and refined delicacy:
Toni's guitar;
It speaks to me,
Happy and carefree,
Swinging easily,
Punctuated perfectly!
I really love them both . Reina voice and she is super cute major crush in Love!

Absolutely enjoyed your arrangement of this song. Please keep giving us more of your work. Thank you.

Wow what an inspiration from some younger people.! 👌👍
I really like the way you cover these songs! Great job ! 🙂
SUPER JOB!! More Dead PLEASE!
lol! reina looks so young, and toni is already a master.
Toni is astounding -
Saw the Dead in LA 1969 Filmore West on New Years Eve, This rendition is the best cover I have heard since, thanks! Nice.
I was never a Dead fan but when these two pick up a tune..............thx girls beautiful riffing Toni
I keep coming back to this song. It may be my favorite cover by you two. Excellent job. Great vocals, great guitar work.
Der absolute Hammer
Tolle Stimme und super Songs.
Weiter so und vielen dank für die tollen Songs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You two are the perfect combination of quality vocals and guitar work. Keep it up with a wonderful combination of talent.
Beautifully played and sung. Jerry and the Dead would be proud. You two really nailed this one..... Hoping more Dead or Little Feat !!!!
This reminds me of 1986-1990 when I was a little kid running around the Dead shows camp grounds with dread locks and my pockets full of weed!!!!! Thanks for the video!!!! Great Job!!!!👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌👌👌🤙🤙🤘🤘
One of my all time favorite Dead songs...thanks for brightening my day!🎸❤️😎
Both of you are SO great!
Such beautiful played music, played with passion, the way it should be. Thank you Ladies
Great lead lines, Toni. I love watching you “work”.
Oh, damn, that was so good. Thanks, ladies, for making this old man smile.
Just what I needed to get my spring ahead sprung!! Stay in the light.
I gotta watch the coffee. It speeds up my tempos.
Sugar too. Coffee and chocolate. OMG
you did it justice, and that's a tall order
No doubt, you are among the GREATEST, doing this old Dead song so perfect one ever can do it! I enjoy for ever, you are super-clever! Warmest Thanks for your performance! Best Regards Goran Sweden
Toni is making Jerry smile up in rock 'n roll heaven. This sounds like the original version from the Garcia album.
Love you both, such talent! Beautiful voices and playing, best I’ve heard!!
This has only been my wake up music for the last week & I don't see myself changing that anytime soon.
You both are awesome, and beautiful and complement each other perfectly. Great vibe between you. Your takes on my era of music is impressive. Keep it up....please.
A wonderful version of a great Dead song. That Toni really knows how to lay down a groove. Reina’s vocal phrasing is different than Jerry Gacia’s and yet it’s perfect. And that Velvet Underground T-shirt is in great condition, considering that it must be older than Reina.
You make me desperately want to be 40 years younger than I am right now. I just felt like that! You are wonderful..
I just found you guys today and I've been listening my way through all your songs. Your voices are just lovely, and your vibe is so chilled out and soothing, I just love it. Thank you!
Thats how you do it. Beautiful
Toni, get your own show child, you're already the star of this one. Fly on little bird!
Who does your arrangements? Toni always plays what the song needs perfectly, and Reina of course has the most lovely voice. You bring joy!!
Yes, what a combo!
Your all simply amazing...ran across you all today can't get enough of your playing /singing and having such fun...Love you guys 👍
from Brussels ; WOOOWWW...happiness around...you're 2 fantastic girls !!!!
Yall: I ran across this. Blown away. Been watch'n you for the last several years. So happy tonight to have found this earlier example of your genius, P E A CE you wonderful people!
outstanding..... both are very good... I love the playing by the electric guitarist. not too busy and very tasteful. Nice job ladies.
Toni Rocked it
I've listened to a lot of your videos but I find myself keep coming back to this one again and again! I'm a huge Grateful Dead fan. I like this version better.
Fantastic, when you think youve heard it all, and you wonderful people show up. love your version. Thank you!
