Tried a lot of air fryer Chinese Donut variations and my original deep fried YouTiao recipe still came out the best! 😍 If you're looking for an amazing air fryer to add to your kitchen, check out Kyvol's air fryer bit.ly/KyvolAirFryer and get an extra 10% discount. Use coupon code BFBEXZ52.
This was my second air fryer ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB . The last one worked fine but was large and a bit loud. This one is outstanding. It is smaller overall but still has plenty of capacity. It crisps the food better. You don't get one side soggy if you forget to turn it over. It is pretty quiet, easy to use, easy to clean, and works great. It chimes to alert you to functions, like when to turn over food that benefits from that. The automatic pre-heat is great. The display is large and easy to read, the light inside is actually useful. The window is worth the extra $10. It looks good sitting out on my counter. I haven't been this happy with an appliance for a long time. Good value for money.
it looks dense not the airy inside
Thank you for the fantastic air fryer recipe. I will definitely give it a try.
Since you've baked it in an air fryer, it's more like a bread than a doughnut. Which is why the texture is dense, right? Not bad by the look too!
Thank you for sharing this. I always tried the crispy fried Chinese doughnut but I will learn to make the healthier version one day
I love chinese doughnuts. Thank you for making this video. I will try it out
Hope you enjoy
Looks so so yummy!🥰
I tried this recipe with multiple temp/time settings. 310F 5+4min worked best for me. For best result you need to spray A LOT of oil just like 9:27. If you need that much oil why not just deep fry it.
The air fryer would yield a more bread-like result as at 10:14. It would basically afford a hoagie roll with a crispy shell and a soft/chewy interior. The texture was shown at 10:48. It didn't taste bad. But it was definitely not a typical fluffy Youtiao. I found the best way to enjoy this was to eat it as a bread stick. Simply dip it in ofc soy milk, or tomato sauce.
With that said I would still recommend trying this out if you are just preparing a healthier Youtiao for yourself and your family. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
Looks good
healthy youtiao! that color looks great !
Hi Angel .. I have been looking for alternative deep fried you tiao…do u think you can do an air fryer series of favorite asian deep fried recipes like Korean fried chicken, Philippine fried empanadas, fried potato pancakes etc… thanks …
Yummy
if you use oven will it be the same temperature/time?? looks so good, good job
you are really a angel Angel.😘😘😘
Chinese Doughnut (油條) is definitely the best side dish with congee (粥), and this time is made by air fryer, which is more healthier.👍🏻
Although I seldom eat congee (I know sometimes it is for health benefits), but love to have Chinese Doughnuts with Shumai (燒賣) (a traditional small Chinese dumplings and a dim sum/點心).
Not sure if the avocado oil tuned toxic and make it healthier.
@@joeawk how turned toxic ?
How much is the Kyvol brand airfryer fr Spore/Malaysia? Thx
Great idea. I might try air fying. I think you might be missing an important ingredient, Lye water 碱水. Lye water gives it its distinctive flavour.
Totally gonna try this! Thanks Angel, hope you are well :)
I just love your oil dispenser & would like to get one or two for myself. Could you share where you purchased it? Thanks.
I got the oil dispensers many years ago from Crate & Barrel, but unfortunately they no longer carry them. 😢
@@angelwongskitchen Thank you for your quick response Angel. Sad to hear though bc the dispenser is so nice.
@@cher128bxi have bought avocado spray at Bjs wholesale club fyi. I know this post is two years old. 😉
They said avocado oil has a low smoke point. In other words it oxidizes quickly in less heat. That's why they use vegetable oil instead of avocado or olive oil to prevent oxidization. Is this true?
Why did you use baking powder instead of baking soda like in your deep fry recipe?
Can it be make in oven?
Nice recipe and video, thank you.
1. AP Flour
2. Cane/Sugar
3. Salt
4. Vegetable/Neutral/Canola Oil
5. Baking Powder 1:00
6. Water
you don't need to baking powder?
This is not a bad idea at all... regular chinese donut deep fried/cooked in oil so yeah, not so healthy but oh so tasty
How many minutes
How much time to cook this for? Isn't really mentioned.
I put it in the air fryer for about 8-10 mins
@@angelwongskitchen Thank You so very much.
is on the caption
Me in search of this recipe after watching this in lots of Chinese drama's
There are a few reviews of the air fryer which mention a plastic smell. Do you have that same experience?
There was some plastic smell in the beginning, but after a few uses it burned off. I recommend opening the windows for those first few times.
Thanks Angel for your reply. Great to know the smell goes away after a few uses.
Dieu qua .
5:50,
11:00 wouldve been good to see how it teared too ..
you didn't put any yeast in your dough, usually to make donuts you add yeast. have you forgotten ??? thanks for sharing !
I tried this recipe with yeast and it turned out too much like bread 🥖 unfortunately
No yeast ??? I am sorry … but what is the point of fermented your dough in the fridge overnight when there is no yeast ??? And … the dough won’t rise anyway before u put it in ur air fryer. I think it looks good but … maybe the taste might not be like Chinese doughnuts.
some recipes use only baking powder
fermenting adds flavor regardless of yeast or not
traditionally there is no yeast used in Youtiao. It is not a fermented food, per se but rather a risen food. The interior rise is caused by the action of the baking powder when it interacts with heat, liquid and oil. In Chinese bakeries, they do not use baking powder but rather they use Aluminum. There are as many Chinese fermented foods as there are stars in the sky--a whole world to explore, but youtiao are one of those lovely, guilty pleasures that are not technically a fermented food. The reason you let the dough sit overnight is to allow it to develop some texture and flavor from the minimal fermentation. As someone else observed, fermentation occurs without yeast.
epic fail in airfryer! came out like breadsticks. Did better deep frying in oil which I ended up doing with the rest of the dough.
Does not look crispy and not sufficiently airy inside. I watched to see if I can make croissant without rolling the dough many times for folding to make layers. Anyway, good job.
Definitely not it. haha lol😂
Oh no. I'm doomed. Goodbye hot girl summer
Definately not worth the price. They aren't light and airy as they should be when fried.
Look just like bread……….not good
Untied thick long hair during food preparation is unappetizing, unless hair is on the menu.
