    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому

      The 4099’s are a little easier to position and feel slightly darker in tone, but a comparison between them would be very interesting. I think the 4099 feel a tighter in their polar pattern to me.

  • @efnerva664

    Hey Alec. I really love your videos. The content and the songs are so good. I'd really love to see a video comparing the Neumann V402 to Rupert's 511 pre's. They both seem to try to achieve a similar goal with a transparent transformerless design that slightly enhances the original sound.

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому +1

      Thanks so much! :) I think they are quite different designs as the RND has an output transformer with the option of adding silk, while the Neumann has a transformerless topology with no option to alter the tone coming in. I think either are great units to capture clean recordings, but the Rupert Neve may be a little more flexible. That’s just my options on though. Hope this helps. :)

    Hey man, question: do you think this mic could be used for vocals? My current vocal chain is set for my TLM 102 and i was hoping another mic in the Neumann family could work for a clip mic

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому

      It’s not something I have tried for vocals! :) mostly instruments for me here. I’d lean towards large diaphragm condensers for Vocals. The TLM102 is a wicked vocal mic.

  • @68Snaps
    @68Snaps Рік тому +2

    The sound is AMAZING!!!!!! As a jazz recording engineer I'm seriously thinking about getting a gang of these to replace everything else (except my R88's)...
    Addendum: just watched your DPA Delux Kit video again, and the neumann mics seem to superclass the DPAs

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому +1

      They are quite special that’s for sure, couple things to keep in mind, they are all metal, so if you ever record strings, just caution the players that the mics can scratch their instruments. The mics are also heavy, so be aware of that for horns/strings :)

    • @68Snaps
      @68Snaps Рік тому +1

      @@alecbrits Do you mean that the clips/attachments are all metal? I would have guessed that they would have been softer, like the DPA 4099 clips lineup. 🤷

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому

      @@68Snaps where the clips touch the instruments are soft, but they are pretty beefy plastic/metal. I did not get a chance to try the strings bridge style clips. I was talking more about the mic heads themselves.

    • @68Snaps
      @68Snaps Рік тому +1

      @@alecbrits Oh yes, that makes more sense. Last violin I miced cost only €27,000 (a nice intermediate level instrument... still complaining about mic prices? ;-) ) and the primary objective, before getting a good sound, was not to damage the instrument. I was literally scared of touching it. But still, I'd feel ok with a metallic head, as long as the clip is sturdy yet soft. BTW, I ended up micing with a Royer R10. Worked great.
      And again, thanks for you awesome content, never ending smile, and great music!

    Hey! That track sounded so gorgeous, I was truly amazed. I don't possess any condenser mic because I record at home and I can't provide an optimal acoustic treatment. Would you suggest a mic like this Neumann to capture a detailed representation of acoustic guitar or piano in a situation like mine or do you think this mic doesn't reject the room enough? Thank you 🔥

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому +1

      I’m not too sure about how much of the room it would pick up, but in my tests it always felt like it was showing off the instrument rather than the room it was in. Hope that helps!

  • @ChanceDevlin
    @ChanceDevlin Рік тому +1

    I am considering purchasing a pair of these to record grand piano in a live situation. Unfortunately the piano lid must be closed in this setting. Do you think these mics would be suitable given that constraint?

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому

      I have not tried them in that exact setting, but if you have the chance to be able to get a demo pair to try, I would highly recommend it. The way they sounded very close to the double bass and upright sounded incredible. :)

  • @DublinEuge

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  11 місяців тому +1

      It sounded pretty good to me on the demo at the start. :) I think some experimentation on some different positions for your style is likely the best option. The mic requires phantom power, and as was stated in the video, you can see the XLR and cable situation. :)
      Hope this helps!

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  Рік тому +1

      Depends on the drummer really! :) if it’s for a commercial facility or live, I’d lean towards the Neumanns or earthworks. They can take a hit. But for my personal taste on my kits with my playing style, the DPA’s work better for me.

      @@alecbrits OK thanks for answering. I use it for private usage in my home studio, playing Rock music. I have mic´d my drum kit with 10 channels so far.
