This unit is the key part of my new Hybrid setup. Getting ready to move into a new studio over the next 2 weeks!! Check out the Antelope Audio Discord community linked in the description.
Hope it's serving you well. Curious: Why pick this over something like an RME? I almost pulled the trigger on an Antelope, but the driver issues were a no-go for me, especially in a world where RME still officially supports 15-year-old firewire interfaces.
RME is superior in driver support my M1 Mac mini still works with my Fireface 800 through FireWire to TB3 adapter and its flawless I have both the Antelope galaxy 32 and RME but I use the RME as my main PLAYBACK and then my antelope galaxy 32 as my DAC through adat if you have a RME stick with it those drivers are coded to PERFECTION
I am extremely curious after a month or half a year🔥😁
Yes, do a video on how you are routing the Galaxy in "Control Panel". Thanks.
Will do!
Hey, the UA-cam algorithm send me your channel, and I just spent like 3h to watch all your videos… I just can’t tell how your stuff, studios, materials is like THE perfect dream for me! Keep going, it’s so interessting for us to know about all this functions and this materials 😊
Thanks you ✌🏻🇫🇷
I've been very interested in this offering from Antelope and looked at some of their other interfaces as well over the last year or so. Looking forward to seeing how much of this you unpack in future videos!
Nice interface. It seems like it can handle anything you throw at it.
It's great to see how your setup has evolved over the past year to zero in on what works best for you.
This video is great!! I had the Orion Synergy Core then switched to the Orion32+ Gen4 just for this reason because of the expanded I/O!! Watching this video I was like somebody else gets it just being able to play an instrument without extra patching or always being in the DAW!!!!
Antelope has been so great! I love using mine!!
Great video Andrew!
I knew it was a matter of time that you got an Antelope. Can’t beat the price for the I/O and such great conversion.
Their discord is awesome. It's so fun getting the inside scoop with bug fixes and updates and their native plugin drops
Love mine, on tour now but will continue deepdiving into it. Still haven´t figured out the routing of the mixers, but I was calibrated and mixing in Immersive audio in just a couple of hours. Amazing hardware! Greetings from Sweden!
YES! Contol Panel/Routing video a must!!
Using a discreet 8 from antelope for several Years now, with two older Motu units coming in through adat for a total of 24 ins and 24 outs. It’s been super stable and super versatile and they’re support has helped me out several times when I’ve gotten stuck. I’ve started looking at the galaxy to upgrade at some point in the future so more videos about yours would be awesome!
I actually just upgraded my interface from a mtu 828es to an orion 32 plus gen 3 and like you I live not having to turn my computer on to hear myself. I also love being able to record with and without the afx dsp processing. I have a small home studio so I only need 2 mixes 1 for the artist and 1 for myself. I have the mixes easily switchable with the front buttons.
All to say excited to see some antelope audio content in the future!
YES, please do a video on how you route hardware/software in/out between each other on the control panel. It all sounds AWESOME!! Thanks for your great videos!!
my opinion, this video is advertising atelope , and I don't think there will be more videos about
Well... same thing (even standalone with the pc off) with a RME UFX III (USB3) and you can scale up to 192 simultaneus I/O with AD/DA boxes and mic expansions all in the MADI realm.
PLUS hardware DSPs for temporary performer's fxs with REAL no latency, PLUS hardware on board 32 tracks recording on a USB stick, PLUS TotalMix FX mixer software interface and the Digicheck suite with spectrum analyzer, visual stereo spatialization, total levels in many scales, PLUS over 30 years of hardware and drivers pure german bullet proof solidity!
was gona say, if you're on a budget, RME can do all of this at a much more approachable price
Had the first version UFX. Software was great but the sound was so terrible that I left a bad taste after owning Apogee Rosetta 800 at that time. Even the USB of my Yamaha 01V96i was much much superior in that regard. Since than used Motu 1248, Avid Carbon and Apollo X. All pretty amazing sounding units. Hope newer RME’s are on par with sound.
@@enginkaplan2317Interesting, I watched a ton of blind tests between Apogee, RME and UAD Apollos and the RME usually won.
Any thoughts on merging?
@@epicasttv not exactly! A full blown RME system with an UFX III as center piece (or even better an HDSPe pcie board) and AD/DA and MIC boxes costs much much more!
I just bought the Orion 32 Gen 4 and absolutely LOVE it! Does exactly what I want it to do and is rock solid.
PC or Mac?
@@jasonjames7109 I run it on a Mac Studio M2. From what I’ve been hearing in some of the forums, I’d stay clear of the M3 processors.
@@jasonjames7109 Mac Studio M2
I’ve been using the Orion 32HD for 8 years. Been a godsend and huge time and money saver over the years. Afx were really handy when starting out, my set up has now expanded to using all 32 in and out for both recording and mixing. Love that box. Did branch out and grab the 4 channel pre but it ended up being horrible and clunky to use. I ended up returning it as their customer service fell short. However, they always kept my Orion running after phone calls with driver updates that were a little janky in the past. Love antelope. Probably go with them for my next upgrade.
Break it all down Bro....Greatly appreciate it, thanks for all of the info!!!!
Appreciate it!
AAAAAAHHH I'm so jealous! I've drooled over antelope for years. I really wish Sweetwater would become a direct distributor for them.
Great vid! Antelope's always been a best-kept secret in studios. VERY intrigued by this interface!
Yes PLEASE make a detailed video on the “control panel” and how you use it. I love the sound of the interface, besides all the routing and other features. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.
I have an orion studio synergy core amd it's a great interface for my workflow. Wonderful ins and outs options with 12 mic pres on board so I don't need a bunch of outboard gear at this stage of my career. Traveling light!
This sounds amazing! Yes, please do a video on how you set up your routing!!!!
Just installed and used the Galaxy 64 for a client and it's pretty awesome. The routing page takes a bit to get your head around, but the ability to also bring in and route Dante is a huge benefit of this piece in larger spaces that have podcast studios, multiple recording spaces, etc. Just super cool to have all of that accessible right there in one box.
That's awesome the 64 is a beast!
Yes, please. All of the above! Keen to know more …
Have never had any issues with any of their gear and customer service is great. Conversion is wonderful.
Just got one. Please make more in depth stuff 🙏🏻😎
The amazing thing with these HDX Galaxy units and the Orion HDX boxes previously ~ you can run two interfaces with two different DAWs off the same interface at the same time! And literally route between the two off the same computer! That + what you covered running standalone with no computer is a huge set of differentiators for these...
+1 on Control Panel vid!
Dope vid, Antelope stuff is great, nothing else compares in terms of single rack space I/O and all the flexibility you'd want in the future for expanding.
This does look like an amazing product. How does it sound? I would love to know how the conversion measures up? Thanks for another great video.
Great video. So are you done with universal audio?
This is amazing. Please do the rest of the videos. And if you can do one for logic would be amazing!! 😅😅
I think when you get to this level of interfaces you’re already at a point where you’d have a preferred monitor controller and headphone amplifier and all that so I just refer to the super top end of interfaces as simply converters to then sculpt your signal chain as ya will. Happy to see Antelope getting love as an Antelope guy myself, thanks for the great vid!
Went thru 2 Galaxy 32’s - sounded great but had too many issues - switched over the Focusrite 16Line and it’s been smooth sailing with incredible sound
This is it!!! Ive been trying to do this with scarlett clarett 8 pre can you do a video of how to route the interface in a hybrid setup
Damn, that's pretty badass!
Great video, Is the monitoring/no daw etc avaliable on UA? I'm sure lots of your viewers use UA interfaces and would be keen to hear how you'd route that in console?
Thank you for your content. I have the Antelope Pure 2 and I love the conversion. I’m connecting it through AES on my Avid HD. Can this now connect to the Avid HD through Primary port as if it’s another HD IO? That’s very cool if it’s low latency
like Lynx or Apogee.
I absolutely love my antelope. The sound quality is night and day with a lot of other interfaces
I’d love to see how everything is routed. You using Dante?
Love it mate 🤘
Great video! Question... Do you use PC or Mac? I've heard that Antelope drivers aren't good for PC.
Thank you. Please show us how you did the routing, if possible.
Please give us more about the routing. its very interesting thanks
Hi Andrew! Thanks for the video! While the Galaxy 32 looks like a outstanding interface on paper (I/O, routing, dsp etc.) I would like to warn you about some issues I’ve had while tracking a band not too long ago.
I was using the dsp plugins on the hardware to clean up some tracks with processing going to the Daw.
The recall of the control panel was a mess. I had to check the settings of the dsp-plugins every morning because some of them just would not recall correctly. This happened even after manually re-loading the Galaxy’s session preset. In the end I had to manually recall the settings on some of the plugins by hand.
The second issue I had, were random clicks and pops occurring on transient-heavy sources on some channels while recording. Fortunately I quickly realised they were there and started to check everything (levels, cabling, microphones). In the end only a re-install of the drivers and control panel solved the issue.
In my opinion those are things you should not encounter with a „professional“ piece of gear at that price point. YMMV but I just wanted to raise awareness that the software stability of antelope is still mediocre at best and can possibly ruin a perfect take pretty easily.
Cheers
Phil
Be thankful you were able to slove pops n clicks with a simple uninstall and reinstall.. wish I could say the same here for me using orion studio hdx on a m1 mac 😢
Very cool setup. I hope other manufactures are paying attention. The "hybrid" studio is here to stay and hardware is coming back. I have also been looking for more I/O but have heard about driver issues with their products. I have an SSL BigSix but quickly outgrew its I/O.
defiantly want to see the routing on this thing.
I do wanna see that follow up video. I subscribed.
Yes, make that video!
Would love to see a more in depth video on how the i/o is routed and what you expanded it with
I was first nervous watching this video but im happy with my RME UFX3 , i can do the routing and setup like the galaxy. ok i dont have dante but it can handle 188 Channels on the same time. via madi and Adat. in class compliant mode i can record all on a usb stick without computer too.
Same. I’m using the UFX+. Love RME. This one (Antelope)
sounds like a good one too. I moved away from Apollos as well.
I'm a little surprised that you went with an Antelope product at the center of your studio! They're great! I know Sweetwater stopped selling Antelope products a number of years ago due to driver issues and returns, but I haven't had any problems with my Orion and MP32, and I think Antelope products and the company have only gotten better over time.
Please do the video on routing hardware inserts :) would love to see it! I have similar setup and am at stage of final routing the galaxy ❤
I’ve been running antelope for a few years now.
Before this I used an Mbox (way back in the day).
It’s just my hobby at the moment.
How do you feel about their afx plugs VS the ua plugins.
I personally have never used UA plugs and am wondering am I missing out.
I love the afx plugins. To me they sound much better than the wavs or plugin alliance counterparts that I own.
Having no “special” i/o (phones, monitors etc.) harkens back to how things were with analog tape & mixer. As you also do now, all the chains & tracks were built through a (normalized) patch bay in a 1:1 fashion.
Clunky, but every “channel” was the same as the other - a prerequisite for any general use studio available for hire. But sure, bygone times as most studios are like yours - adapted for personal use. Which is great…!
Btw, I’ve used more ancient Antelope i/o for years, and it just worked - paying customers like that, so we could focus on the session.
Best of luck from -an old- (?!) …a ‘vintage’ recording engineer & musician… 👍
Wow!!! fantastic! So I have about 50 or so inputs in my studio, drum mics, percussion mics, organ leslie mics, guitar amp, bass amp, vocal mics, stereo keyboards, etc... I think something like this is too small for me... unless you are able to expand easily. I did see on the website for this product you can combine all physical inputs, along with all its digital options... what do you think? Should I get this?
Please do another video on Control Panel! I just got an Orion Studio SC a few months back and the virtual patch bay still overwhelms me sometimes. I'd love to see how more people have their routing set up to give me some new thoughts and ideas!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Yes please for the hardware inserts but also hardware send fx! When you say zero latency, is it “very low latency”?👋🏼
What box(es) are you using for AD/DA with the MADI IO?
I saw a while back that you had an Apogee symphony in there. What was your option with that? My understanding is it can do most of what this can (with expansion cards) Just too expensive?
Am support of that video showing how to route
@studiotime I was looking at the Galaxy but wasn’t sure about the audio quality. So I recently bought 3 Apollos x16 Heritage which are a little buggy. Few other things bug me. I am considering switching to Galaxy 64. Would love to know more about the routing and plugins and direct monitoring on the Galaxy. And how reliable it is. Thanks!
Definitely make the routing video. Those are some of the important imo.
Please breakdown more info on this interface!!!! More Videos :)
The Galaxy sounds like it solves a lot of the problems I've been trying to solve for my own studio. I would be interested in seeing more in depth videos.
Just posted one going through the software!
Do the hybrid vid. I have the 16ch Toft version of your board and I've been kicking around how to use a 32ch interface to connect to my 16 analog mix channels and what to send to my patchy for outboard. Curious to see how you split it up. PS: I use the Zen Tour. EDIT:: I just saw that you got rid of your Trident....but I still wanna hear how you patch the Galaxie...or if you have any headaches with Antelope's software...I have.
I struggle bad with Antelope Audio, we have a Orion 32+ in the school studio, and somehow it wont communicate properly with new laptops through USB(3). Customers service answer the phone 1 out of 10 times, and I think they do a bad job updating drivers for newer operating systems. In my experience, ill stay far away when upgrading my own home setup. Never had 1 problem with Focusrite for example, my lil old Scarlett 8I6 have direct monitoring and the customer service answers the phone, things just works! Because of this I think il go for the Focusrite RED in the future when I need better converters for home projects.
Love your channel, Just professional courtesy fyi, there's some phase/odd eq stuff happening on your voice that's a bit distracting (for a pro audio channel). From here it sounds like a hidden lav with some steep AI noise reduction (?) I'm probably wrong, but it's just got some funky stuff happening throughout.
Still a fan and will keep watching! PS, I was a sales engineer at Sweetwater for several years. Cool to see you caught their attention.
It’s good for making your demos
@itsstudiotime , how is this interface any different from any other one with enough I/o ie: the Focusrite I18i20 or the Apollo with the same amount of I/o? I was confused when you said you previously hadn't been able to have all your gear connected and ready to record at once...? thanks
I bet you can get the same quality recording in ‘your studio Andrew.. that you did when you recorded that band -in that big studio on that API..
Keep plugging along!
Andrew, in the next video can you explain how this interface compares to using a patch-bay. Do you still need a patch-bay? This sounds soooo cool and forward thinking. I think that the days of "patching" are limited and coming to an end. Thanks for making this and sharing the info.
cool video! what camera are you using here?
Thanks it’s a Canon R5
Great review bro. I have an Lynx Aurora N but I need more tracks I'm thinking of selling my Lynx and picking one of these Antelope 32 would be
perfect...What do you think Andrew Thank You. Yes do a vid on this brother.
I originally ordered this because of the the 32 Dsub Ins and Outs, I mean come on a 1 U rack space with all my I/O. Unfortunately when I got the item my happiness turned to sadness and frustration because Antelopes drivers and launch portal are unreliable. I am not the only person who has debt with this. Customer service left a lot to be desired all in all I’d say the item worked 10% of the due to drivers. I bought the MRC as well and it was one or the other that would show up on my computer...Interface or Monitor controller ...had it a month and it never met my needs..when the largest Music store drops that product..leave it alone..I have a Focusrite Red 16L and it is solid as a rock. Good Luck.
Curious, I'm assuming you're running it on a PC?
@@camshash While that would perhaps explain some people’s issues I was running it on an intel based mac book pro (I9, 64gb Ram, 4TB Storage) 2019 16 Inch. No matter what I did I could not get the system to latch with thunderbolt.
Get an UA Apollo x16 and a x8p
@@Billy_bSLAYER I have an x8p currently and I like it, but the dollar for i/o is very expensive. The x16 is $4k for 16 i/o vs $3.3K for 32 i/o on the orion. Of course thats a mute point if the antelopes software doesnt work
can you specify what exatly waas your problem, what do you mean "due to drivers"? did you get pops and clicks in your recording? was the playback stopping?
How future proof is the direct monitoring with plugins? I had the issue with an interface where you no longer can install the software on a recent machine operating system. You can still direct monitor but without plugins on it.
Antelope is amazing and especially for recording Drums
LOVE my antelope interface, I have the Orion studio. Less io, but same flexibility with the control panel / routing / FX
Huge upgrade from my 20 year old Delta1010 🤣🤣
What about the quality of the preamps and the ad/da converters versus the flagship converters on the Apogee Symphony?
Conversion sounds great. The switch from the symphony was pleasant, just way more features / flexibility with IO and routing, half the rack space and $3,000 cheaper.
Let us know how those drivers are - I know Antelope's had some trouble in recent years, but ymmv and I haven't heard much this year about that, but you never know!
Similar in format are the RME UFX interfaces - You're not getting Dante there, tradeoff is less analog i/o, more ADAT, higher conversion specs, and a lower price. Kind of like comparing an orange to a tangerine, really, depending on your needs.
And for folks who're thinking of the Dante route - There are gonna be some interesting things on the horizon this year, so keep your eyes peeled :)
Hey - the drivers are fine with the Galaxy boxes, just as they have been with the various Orion units. I know all the debates and have been in them. Antelope has gotten knocked by individuals just like any product or hardware. They also get knocked for customer support - again a fallacy as I have worked with them on questions and specific PC setup issues I had at one point. Also usb vs Thunderbolt have played big differences too and how Antelope has addressed things. And Its worth noting - Antelope does not have 1 set of drivers they manage and keep updating that then work across all their interfaces or levels of interfaces. They have drivers they manage individually across each product and they have to write them uniquely for each due to the intricacies of each platform, which I admit they tend to be so advanced - they kill off platforms pretty quick or have. Everything led to the Synergy platform and all these levels and flavors of them. But, still they hand maintain each driver set for each platform for each OS, and they are barely a 200 person company. They are not some massive establishment or part of a larger corporate entity. So the plus is they listen and connect like that to users. And that can be difficult in this world when we all want quick answers and helped instantly. Also their modeling of gear into plugins - is the hidden gem, barely anyone knows about their PLUGINS, even with massive marketing on it (at least via email deals) - but their modeled plugins of say tube compressors is unrivaled. I am open minded about them and the future, but this is what I know. And maybe they are such an underdog yet respected at the toppest tier of the music industry game with engineers of all kinds, and that is why I love them. But, they honestly should be in more of our rooms and setups. And Andrew's video is definitely a helper to demystify these Galaxy boxes for sure.
@@dayzaudio😂
Support have been great for me..
Though the orion studio hdx has been a nightmare while trying to use on m1 mac .. constantly having to hotplug the unit while in a session just tobe seen is crazy ..
THEY NEED TO UTILISE AI NOW WITH ASISTANCE IN WRITING DRIVERS ...
Also, what other MADI unit are you using to get the extra MADI input and outputs to the Galaxy?
"The audio interface that does everything!"
Yah okay but can it fix my marriage?
It will fix it by making you guys more apart from each other
Does she take dante?
@@itsstudiotimeshe did. that's the issue!
Yes, you will spend less time fixing audio issues, and fixing more of your wife's issues 😂😂😂
My Antelope Goliath actually fixed my marriage.
Definitely outside of my budget today.
I had alot of stabilty issues with their drivers and eventually went to RME Digiface instead with more stabile interface and a headphone out.
Please keep us updated on your experience with the unit over time! I'm one of the many who had a pretty horrendous experience with Antelope in the past that turned me off to the comapny as a whole. But I've heard they've been making an effort to turn things around, and I would absolutely buy another one if that is the case! You just can't beat the value they offer. On paper, at least...
SAME HERE!! DRIVERS,DRIVERS where a nightmare on the orion Studio HD,, other then that i loved the routing, and sound quality but we need stable drivers or else its hard to use as it would disconnect and not be seen with the host Mac M1
4:17 Amen! It's always annoyed me when other producers try and tell me that mixing as I go is a waste of time!
I legitimately have OCD and it's impossible for me to move on in my project without mixing as I go! It also helps
build the confidence that you'll need to fully complete your project! Nothing worse than potentially having a hit
record but you decide to delete the project just because something about it is bugging you when in reality it just
needed a little TLC to come to life! I've always mixed as I go! Some artists I've worked with hate that about me,
but I won't be changing for anyone! I also cannot record dry vocals! I have to record vocals with my vocal chain
already setup or my confidence level goes right out the window! I like to have a rough idea of the final product in
order to help carry me on! I've tried producing instrumentals and not bothering with mixing as I go but I'm rarely
happy with the end results!
I would like a video with your routing hardware inserts and how you do monitoring setup. thanks for the sell, *interested.
How do like the converters. Do they sound better then say a Focusrite 16n ?
This is the interface i was looking at. I'd love for you break d ou wn hiw you're routing all the mic inputs, hardware inserts, digital micers to hardsare headphone mixers etc. Unless we were not understanding eachother, the Vintage King sales rep told me if I used the 32 analog I/O via the db25's, I couldn't simultaneously use all the other ADAT, Spidf, MADI etc. for more - again, simultaneous - inputs. So I'm fairly confused because it seens what yoyre saying is what i thought; you can use them all.
When you got rid of your Trident console. Water dropped from my eyes a bit... Is that called tears??? Anyway, I am happy for you to get what makes your work easier, faster and happier.👍
I have the Galaxy on my list for a hybrid studio. I was just thinking of which controllers to pair it with? 2 x UF8 and UC1 or 2 x Avid S1 and Avid Dock?.
I use Ableton mainly to produce but sometimes export stems to mix on Logic (which supports Eucon) but Eucon supposedly can also run on mackie control or something
I wonder if the monitoring still works while rebooting or when the computer is fully turned off? eg stand alone format conversion mode.
What’s your experience with the drivers? I got the gen 4 studio 32+ when it came out last year and a nearly a year in the card doesn’t get recognised on start up 75% of the time and the driver isn’t overly reliable yet. Sounds great and your right, super flexible, lots of io and routing is easy, but not so sure about the driver reliability.
Oh, and the plug-ins killed my daw and I had to uninstall them. Support at antelope is great so have helped with any issues that were fixable
Did you ever considered to invest into HDX?
Deep dive into the inserts routings
DAW to Antelope to analog gear and back specifics
6 grand wow thank you for doing this andrew
Andrew Masters: I am OBSESSED with those huge LAMPS above your desk!!! WHAT care they, PLEASE?
For the price you can get a RME Fireface UFX III + RME 12Mic-D 😮
And rock solid drivers 🤐
Congratulations on your new interface! It looks fantastic. I am curious. Did you consider the RME UFX+ or the new UFX III ? They have a very similar feature set - including stand alone mixer operation, on-board DSP effects, plus some extras like iOS mix/routing remote control (from iPad for example), realtime spectrum analyzer, DC-coupled outputs (for modular synths), USB recording (no computer needed), USB remote control - plus the incredibly solid RME drivers that are supported for decades. I am just honestly curious to know your short list before you made your decision. What other interfaces made it to the top 3? Perhaps a video about that would be interesting! Congratulations again!
Will be interested in when RME pays for it..
Finally this is becoming a Sweetwater channel seller..
