Love Danger Danger! Me and my friends recognised Bruno Ravel & Steve West in the hallways of a tiny venue in Holland, where we just saw Extreme in concert. Not that many people in Europe had actually even heard of Danger Danger at that time, so Steve & Bruno were kinda surprised that somebody recognised them. We chatted for a while and the guys were extremely nice and cool. They told us they were just finishing up their new album ‘Screw It’ at Wisseloord-studio’s in Hilversum. After a little more talking, all of a sudden they said: ‘Why don’t you guys come over to the studio tomorrow, hang out and listen to the album’?!…How cool was that!!! So we did!! Went over there the next day, hung out with Steve & Bruno, listened to the album and they asked us what we liked and didn’t like about the new songs…We had an amazing afternoon. And what a wonderful thing to do. Love those guys! And still love their music…

I remember when the album and acoustic versions of "I Still Think About You" blew up at radio in the early 90's. Around the same time, bands like Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains started gaining notoriety. The writing was on the wall for melodic metal's demise. That was a sad time indeed. It set the standard for how bleak and disappointing the 90's were.
@@hinjurock70 bingo, the early 90's were very vibrant, glam metal, grunge, funk metal, hip hop, etc all co-existed until like 1994. Then it was all consolidated
@RJC 72 I couldn't disagree more. Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P.) said "the demise of glam metal should be placed on the genre itself." According to Dio, glam "had nothing new to offer in 1991. NO fresh new sounds. And the genre was becoming a parody of itself." I absolutely agree with RJD. And AIC or Soundgarden is WAY more metal than Poison, Bon Jovi, Slaughter, Tuff or ANY glam metal will EVER be. AIC (who began as glam metal) was talented, believe it or not. I dislike Nirvana as much as ANY of you glam metal fans do (AOR/melodic rock also fizzled when grunge emerged as the top genre,) but bands like AIC and Soundgarden actually had talent. Awesome guitar solos on AIC's "Facelift." And melodic 90's hard rock bands like Brother Cane, Cry Of Love, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, Open Skyz, Ragin' Slab, the Poor, Wildhearts and New American Shame may have NOT been glam metal, but they definitely recycled that genre in their music. Glam metal fans can hate on 90's melodic alt-rock bands like Collective Soul and STP (the latter who began a grunge band before branching out to arena rock) as well as lump them in the other grunge bands all they want...but they honestly wanted to differentiate from the grunge scene. In fact, CS's brother tandem of Ed and Dean Roland disliked grunge quite a bit, which is why the lyrics in their music were more on the upbeat and positive side (as you hear in the band's signature hit "Shine.") And CS identify themselves more with the likes of the AOR/melodic rock crowd than they do with the grunge scene. CS was influenced by NOT just R.E.M., U2 and INXS, but also Journey, Foreigner, Boston, Survivor, Van Halen and Sammy Hagar. And the Rolands began their career in a glam metal cover band before forming CS. And Dave Wyndorf, the singer of 90's stoner rock/spacy hard rock band Monster Magnet really hates being called grunge band. Listen to that band's song "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" - and you'll see Wyndorf was obviously seriously taking swipes at grunge bands or ANY other bands whose lyrics were negative and downright depressing. Wyndorf was friends with members of Soundgarden (opened for them in 1995) but he was NO fan of grunge or the lyrical content in that genre's music. Yes, grunge and alt-rock was the leading genre throughout the 90's, but NOT all 90's music was like that. As Nikki Sixx said a few years ago on his former syndicated radio show "The Sixx Sense," "(the grunge scene wiping out the glam scene) happened nearly 30 years ago. That's like almost 3 decades. It was going to happen sooner or later. To my peers and fans (of our genre,) we ALL need to just get over it! Just move on with our lives and enjoy the memories of it."
@@midohiobuckeyeaorwarrior9743 Very true. And not only did glam have "nothing new to offer in 1991", it always sucked in the first place - it was a lame cheesy watered-down version of 70's hard rock and early 80's metal that highlighted the weakest most cliched elements of the genre and left out all the good parts. It was like the lite beer of metal. Grunge (which wasn't an actual sound more than it was an overall attitude and mentality) and heavy alternative (the lines often were blurred between the genres) were the natural progression of the genre after traditional metal and thrash metal.
@@hinjurock70 Lite beer of metal lol. And a lot of those bands were nowhere near metal. To even say Poison is metal is just a plain insult to the genre. Period. Heavy glam bands like early Crue, early Ratt, Skid Row, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Girlschool, Y&T (late 70's and early 80's era,) W.A.S.P., Tangier ("Four Winds" has some heavy tracks on it like "Ripcord" and "Sweet Surrender") and Christian metal band Barren Cross were as close as that genre even got to being metal. Other heavy bands like Lizzy Borden, Leatherwolf, Lillian Axe, Voivod, Accept, Krokus, White Wolf and Armored Saint were NOT even glam. Those were traditional heavy metal bands that were molded as most NWOBHM bands were in the late 70's/early 80's. Nazareth, AC/DC, GN'R and Thin Lizzy might be classified as hard rock...but they sound like pure metal to me. I will say the chick side of the glam scene was better than the guy side. Grunge modeled its sound after U.K. hardcore punk-metal band Discharge.

It's really important to listen to people who "have been around". Typically older guy and gals who have lots of life experience in their pockets and happy attitudes. Ted's comment that "everything was going really, really well right up until it wasn't" is actually a very insightful. Life often happens that way. Things are great until they aren't. We hear this in similar sayings ways, like "it's feast or famine". My favorite quote in this regard is when Warren Buffet's was asked, "how does one find themselves going bankrupt?" Mr. Buffet replied, "well typically it happens very slowly, then suddenly." Life will throw you screw-balls. The relevant question is, "what will your attitude be during these times?" Ted seems to have handled things well....great attitude and perspective!

Una gran banda, de putisima madre!! No entiendo como no habeis tenido mas repercusion.. os vi en Madrid hace 11 años, God bless ya!!
"and then the sun didnt come up" what a terrible day in music!
Real humble guy… great band
Those first 2 albums were awesome!
I saw you guys opening for Alice Cooper, & you guys were GREAT!
I wasn't a big DD fan. I am now.
Rock America! 🎸🇺🇸
Extremely underrated band! His solo stuff is awesome too! Still has a great voice. I was shocked because of his age but he sounds great!
He seems like a genuinely nice person. There doesn't seem to be ego there, just contentment.
SO SHWEEEETTT...much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO.[the music worldwide}
and sooo fun great talks..!!
I wouldn't normally talk about an album Ted wasn't on in his comments, but since he has patched it up with the band I'll mention that if you guys haven't heard the Danger Danger album "The Return Of The Great Gildersleeves" from 2000, check it out! It's my favorite of theirs (after the first two). I'd love to hear a version with Poley on vocals!!
Well he just might be the nicest guy in the world!
Great interview

Your solo stuff and Tokyo Motorfist are both superior to Danger Danger! Great stuff!
Good to see that things are going well again! Must be... looks like a Rolex Sub on his wrist- those aren't cheap!
