What kind of car for less than $10,000 offers adaptive air suspension, heated steering wheel, massage seats and as much leg room as a Mercedes S class? The VW Phaeton! I have always thought they were pretty cool, never really saw them on the road. Check out what it's like to own one and drive it all the way across the country!

ahahahahahaah
Most underrated luxury car EVER.
until you realise how pricey and complicated maintenance is. it's cheap for a reason.
Nazareno Fernandez I was literally about to type the exact same thing before seeing your comment. Lol
It is worth it in my opinion tho
correct
Yey, I got liked.
This dude sounds like a character Adam Sandler would play.
He must be a Happy Gilmore freak. Lmao.
Correct
Bros little Nicky
Damn! He definitely nose his VW phaeton inside & out...
Bruce Wayne 🤣🤣🤣. That has got to be the biggest nose I’ve EVER seen
Fredayday Bae that’s why he got that big body vw lol nah but I’d definitely buy one if I was rich lol
Bruce Wayne I don’t think it’d be all that bad. My bmw 550i xdrive was tragic and I can’t imagine that it’d be much worse...correct? 😂😂
The Phaeton has this stuff for cold weather:
It has automatic humidity control, no knobs, it just takes care of it. I've never had a window fog.
It has an electrically heated windshield, like an airplane and like an airplane, the windshield heater runs on 24 Volts.
It has electric heaters in the climate control system so you don't have to wait for the engine to warm-up.
It has a Residual Heat function that activates a pump in the coolant system that closes a check valve, cutting off the radiator and circulating the coolant between the engine and climate control system, using the heat of the engine to keep the car warm while you are away.
It has snow screens that catch the powdery snow before it can build up on you air filters.
Of course, the steering wheel heater, so nice on any car.
I didn't know Kylo Ren drove a Volkswagen
Lmfaooooo hahaha

This video in a nutshell;

Dude has the most impressive nose I’ve ever seen! Bravo!
No nose jokes about the guy please.
ezar howard I'm trying so hard....
ezar howard correct 😂
9/11wasStaged LOOL 😂😂😂😂
nobody nose how to control themselves these days
That's not a nose, that's a beak.
So much better than Parker’s channel. U are the reason I watched vehicle virgin. I hope you get the recognition u deserve.
This car with the W12 is my dream car but I can’t justify the maintenance on it. Wonderful car. Wish VW still made these for the US. Even the current Bentley’s aren’t as cool imo
I like this review. Eddie and the driver seem like nice people.
I own 1 of 114 in Canada................Love this car and i have driven VW since Jetta MKII '86 & Audi 5000, Audi GT Coupe, A6 Avant(wagon). When you are stopped at a light and the guy in the Mercedes gives you a grin and a head nod you know this person knows what the score is. Witnessed this many times.
I also own one, I bought it off someone who had 3. Mines a fixxer upper but it's coming along and repairs aren't so bad. I'm used to Touaregs so maybe that's why. This isn't harder than a Touareg which makes me happy lol
correct count: 18
correct
It’s going to be way more than 18!
@@MartinAston00 he ment 18 times a minute.. CORRECT me if I am wrong
correct
I work at a vw dealer, I own a phaeton and I have many customers that are also phaeton owners. Realistically speaking you don’t need a “phaeton certified” tech to work on it. Technically there are no phaeton certified technicians any longer, they stopped offering the training course for those cars a long time ago and the certifications have since expired. Anyone can work on it as long as they know what they’re doing. I work on mine all the time and I am not a technician. They’re just another car. The electrical portion of the car will require an experienced tech for sure but anyone can work on it if they’re a competent enough tech.
So it needs work "all the time"?
wholeNwon no. I meant like basic stuff like brakes and oil changes. Filters. But the big stuff I’ve fixed in the past with no issues.
@@lucas36963 I've found them interesting but not enough to leave my '98 LS400's perfection all these years.
wholeNwon Lexus doesn’t brake down. Other than valve cover gasket leaks, you’ll be fine. Lol
@@lucas36963 Yup, mine were seeping a little but the small bolts that hold the covers down had worked a little loose. Tightening them carefully stopped the leak...so far. Still has the original plugs, too.
I'm irish and there is only 3 in Ireland and my dad has one

The Phaeton is an incredibly engineered car! I recently filmed a 2008 TDI Phaeton and I was really impressed by it. The rear window with the hidden heating elements was one of my top features that I noticed.
I love mine, have a V8 lwb in the uk, its amazing, mine is even more loaded than this one in the video, only thing that sucks is the fuel economy, but will do 30mpg on a run so can't complain.
Correct
Great review Eddie, these are seriously good cars and total bargains at the moment.
Criminally underrated!!
In order to have an smooth phaeton, you must fix it , yourself, Mechanics are terrified of working in it, a vw dealer refuse to service me in florida, but in the bright part, its easy to find a parts car ( if you have the space) do not used it for city driving, but long drive, thats were it shines.
The v8s can do 30mpg on a journey, so in all honesty for a luxury car with big cruise smooth engine, that’s really good ( amazes me when people say they get bad fuel economy from v8s and v12s)? 30 mpg is amazing and don’t forget these engines don’t stress, so last longer with less issues.
I have owned one of these beauties for 5 years and it’s FANTASTIC
Hi Niall, whereabouts are you based? I'm looking at a 2015 3.0TDI, FSH, 120k miles. Looks impeccable but read several scare stories on maintenance costs which is making me think twice. How has maintenance been on yours?
@@mjw8218 I bought it and have never had an issue. The timing cams needed replacing and the cost was in the labour. My outgoings have been minimal. I have eventually found a great mechanic who loves to keep it going and the motor tax is horrendous (almost 2k a year ) having said that for the price of a second hand fiesta I get to drive a superb machine. It’s built like a tank. Go treat yourself. I believe the W 12 is an expensive beast to keep though.
@@mjw8218 ps based in Dublin. Afaik I own the only one in Ireland.
Your videos are 10x better than Parker’s
Alex Julian nah bro
I honestly enjoy both their content.
i agree parker just click baits with his lambs that nobody even cares about and then drives around LA thinking he’s cool as fuck,,, eddie gives actual content with valuable information
Fuck yes
Vehicle Virgins sucks! I stopped watching his videos, although his girlfriend is cute
good video but how do you turn the AC, i read pagess 29-37 the car is at the shop getting refriderient refill but they need to compressor/AC set up ON . I have the car for years and still can not figure it out. i tried recirc mode and defoster mode .
Looks like a beast sleeper with the right installments
I was lucky enough to have 2 Phaetons. I got my first new Phaeton in 2004, it was a silver V8. When my lease was up I wanted to get another one and they stopped shipping to the US in 2006. I searched the whole country and there were only 13 new Phaetons left and I found one in Evanston Illinois and leased it and had it shipped to my house. It was a 2006 white v8 and I had it for 3 years. I loved having both of them but didn't buy after the lease because I was well aware how ignorant VW was with these cars. But they still hold a place in my heart. Recently on a trip through Northern California, I ran into a lady driving her sons Phaeton and we had a nice talk about them. He was a mechanic so knew how to keep it going and it still looked beautiful.
GP0 GP1 GP2 . Phaeton is no A8 or Audi. It is more Bentley GT. But old Technic, also in a 2016 GP4 Model.
The BMW E39 also came with a flashlight. It barely works at this point but its a nice quirk. The VW Phaeton is nice, but it should be a W12
The "correct" guy is the love child of Pete Townshend and Adrien Brody. This guy nose his stuff.
How much is the maintenance on this thing...i.e. brakes, oil change etc
When you bought it for $6,000 what did you have to fix on the car?
My buddy had one and said the maintenance on the thing was so expensive and parts were really hard to get.
Hines Drive! I'll be damned...I knew it as soon as I saw those two white doors on the building at the start of the video.
Is this the Phaeton I'd always see parked near Deluca's on Warren Rd? Regardless, I'm happy for the owner to have such a great ride, as it's one of my dream vehicles. Great video, Eddie!
Most informative.
Clarkson made 201mph in a W12 (unrestricted of course) so don't make fun of the best VW limo ever. The Arteon should have been better but after close encounter with it I can say for sure that the Phaeton is way better.
Sqwark sqwark....Toucan play at that game. Can you fit 3 in the back or is that only toucan fit in the back? Can you fit a parrot kit?
How much is the cost for maintance?
Now I just got a flashback of the Professor & Beaker arguing from Muppets Show in my head now!😂😅🤣
I thought this car is more based on the bentley flyingspur than the a8L
You're correct. The Flying Spur and Phaeton share the Volkswagen D1 platform. However, the Phaeton was deigned first so it's safe to say the Bentley is modeled after the VW haha. I have a silver 2005 4.2L with black interior.
Correct
Have 2 Phaetons. A 2004 and a 2005. Best cars I’ve ever owned
So how reliable are the engines in these cars? Specifically the v8 or w12. I'd love to have one but I hear horror stories about Vw engines.
Jeremy clarkson drove a W12 back in 06 with the limiter removed and he did 207mph
I did knot nose it was such a rare car.
I have a 2002 w12 in Spain with only 80 miles. Crazy to maintain.. always has problems
Correct , Correct , Correct!
Nice ride
this guy could make it rich doing voice over work

QURRRECKT!

I own one and it is a remarkable car.
Hi Eddie, I'd be glad to have you do videos on my 1969 Porsche 912, 1999 Boxster, 2004 Targa, and 1986 Lincoln Continental if you're looking for more cars to add to your channel. I live in Troy, MI.
Fortunate to own my second one: '09 3.0 TDI fully loaded.
This car will make you cry like a stepchild when it brakes down, but let me tell you in good running condition it beats the Mercedes s class hand down
Two words...NOSE JOB!
Holy shit! It's Cyrano de Bergerac!
Eddie, in this video, you are so "correct".
do a review on a d4 audi s8

The Real Cody Bersick do you know him??
Great luxury car.
I’ve seen 2 in San Antonio TX
Correct. But the W12 can reach top speed of 201mph according to Jeremy Clarkson. :)

I loved my 2004 V8 Phaeton, which I bought used in 2011, and sold in 2017. It's original MSRP was just over $72K.

It's deep shit when it gets older, i know a guy who owns Klongswagen Phaeton :'''DDD

Why is he smelling his fingers at 2:28? Just curious..
Because,it rides like a cloud.
Seen this just a week from buying one......money pit if your not a certified tech , only got it because I’m a phaeton tech / enthusiast
Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear claims the W12 will go a perfectly smooth and stable 201 mph with the electronic limiter disabled.
For a moment i thought howard was driving from big bang theory

It is not fully loaded. Extended wood trim, rse, 4 seats....

Fredayday Bae I am saying that there are numerous options that the car in the Video Deos not have.
