This Video provides an explanation on how to install a Car Audio Battery, or a secondary battery in an vehicle. The purpose of this battery is to help reduce the tendency of dimming lights and electrical draws as some amplifiers require large amounts of amperage. This upgrade may be effective in helping with the possible issues.

Can you recommend a good lightweight secondary battery for a motorcycle. I plan to install in a saddlebag.
So, currently have an 07 Civic Hybrid. I know it has a DC/DC converter instead of your typical alternator. So, how would I go about running a second battery in the trunk? I don't like running everything off the 12v under the hood.
Current setup-

4x QEA QRS65
2x QWX2000-12D4
QEA800.2(adding fans to this today as it overheats and goes into protection mode after a while of playing at high volumes when there's constant highs&mids)
QEA2500.1D(this stays relatively cool, only gets warm to the touch really)

@@reyesjose214 yes it will definitely kill both your batteries w/ this typical way of installing a 2nd battery! You can get an 80Amp stinger like I just received on Amazon for just some pocket change more than $15 greenbacks! Then the installation is more or less the same layout & same amount of wire needed etc, etc..... Just 1 ignition sourced ground location is your only other step involved in an isolator set up... FYI, if you have an extra $20 you can live parting ways w/I'd advise you to go the isolator route, if for nothing else, just piece of mind knowing you'll NVR need to stress bout weather or not your ride's going to start or not (due to audio installation issues that is) cuz you let your stereo play for a few minutes after the engine is shut off.... just MHO....To each their own of course....

Perhaps use an isolator so the system doesn't drain the starter battery, and also have a volt guage to see in real-time what current health is

Awesome..I have the HB 2011 thanks for the video also I have the same amps GM-D8601 and GM-D8604!
Nice. Super simple to understand
Thanx bro i have been curious about this subject for a while now
Awesome video, very clear! Couple questions though.. Should the fuse from primary battery to secondary battery match the rating of the fuse from secondary battery to amp? Also, does running two batteries require an upgraded alternator on most vehicles? Thanks
For starters, it depends on how many amps you are pulling as the alternator is charging those batteries. So to answer your question, yes. You alternator will need to charge those batteries, so if your system is bigger than your alternator can support, then eventually it is recommended to upgrade.
Hi guys. Great video. I'm learning everything i need to know to install 2 new amps in my car. (my old amp finally died) My sub amp has 2 zero gauge power and ground hook ups. My mid range amp has one 4 gauge hook up for each. (DD audio M4b and SS4b)
I'm running zero gauge and upgrading fuses. My previous installer had run the ground wire all the way from under my engine bay to my 2nd battery in the trunk. Was that a waste of wire? Your video here makes running new zero gauge ground wire from the engine bay to the trunk battery look unnecessary. I would appreciate some reassurance that for my application it's ok to ground closer to the trunk somewhere. thanks.
You'd be better running a ground from battery to battery as long as its gauge is think enough to support the current. Copper is more conductive the steel! Also should eliminate posible grounding issues
Your ground should be same as positive nothing less and I don't see a purpose of bonding both batteries as long as the factory ground tensile wires have been replaced hopefully with the big 3 that should be done before a second battery
Very pleased to see another Utah based business:)
Thank you! I’ve always wondered how to do this! 😬😬😬👍👍👍
Great video ,
I just want to make sure , so we have 2 100amp fuse from the front #1 battery to the #2battery on the trunk right?
and one more 100amp fuse from the #2battery to the amp.
Thanks so much I want to add a second battery but was unsure how to do it....
I'd be sure to upgrade your stock alternator while you're at it.
@@bobbyz3125 How soon should you change it? My car is still in warranty & not to sure it'll void some part of it if I'm upgrading the alternator.
Yeah, I hear you about the warranty. I would definitely check on that b4 doing any modifications. I'm not an install professional but upgrading your "big 3" makes a big difference with your voltage. If you can't install like a 300 amp alternator see if you can upgrade the big 3. Which is replacing 3 main cables on your vehicle. The batt ground to the chassis, the chassis to the engine block, & the alternator plus to the batt plus. You'll go from 4 ga to 0/1. Plus a capacitor tends to help as well. I'd say go for 1 farad for every 1K Watts of RMS. I know a little bit but it would be better to talk to a pro. I don't know what you're running but good luck and keep the dB's up 😁
@@bobbyz3125 Good looking out fam. For sure I'll talk to my installer about the set up ill be running & ill work from there. Thanks for the reply.

Perfectly Explained 💯
Thank you. This video helped me a lot.
I would like to see this exact same process except with a battery isolator.
Just put the isolator on the positive wire
Tell me blow
but adding a battery isolator will prevent the sub amp from using power from the main car battery. Its just running from the 2nd battery and charging from the main one. The only benefit from that is you now have a very short length power wire from battery 2 to the amp.
Zero extra capacity
@@markmartin1263 that’s what you want. You don’t want your system pulling from your primary battery. That’s how lights start dimming and all that.
Great install guys looks really clean oawg from the front to the back of the car would have been best for future exspansion
Nice set up
This is beautiful
Did you secure the battery later?
Can I do this with a big 3 upgrade on my 2018 Chevy Malibu LT with Auto Stop Start?
Do you have to run the big 3 to run a secondary battery ? Or will it be fine just running from stock, im wanting to get a 2500- 3k rms battery from either xs power or kinetik battery for my synergy amp. Or would I be better off just getting a good capacitor?

Very clean.
hello I wanted to ask you a question: your second battery has the same amperage as the first motor side? example 70 ah at the front and 70 ah at the rear? Thank you.

@@sebsworld4443 thanks
@@sebsworld4443 he isn't asking about the size of the fuse....he is asking about the size of the battery on the vehicle
So no need for a battery isolator if a have a liquid battery up front and a agm in the rear?
I have a agm up front and need to know if I can swap my trunk agm battery for a marine battery
thank you for the tutorial. question: do i need to run a wire from the alternator to the second battery, or does only the main battery need to be wired directly to the alternator?
hi buddy, you demonstrate it precisely..
my question is just about the battery, did you just connect the 2nd battery parallel to the 1st battery try fuse and ground cable, right?
Would you upgrade the altenator when adding a second battery? And what is the pros and cons to using a second battery as oposed to a capacitor?
A battery will hold a lot more power than most capacitors. Best $ spent is additional battery and of course a bigger alternator.
So, if I understand correctly, there are two wires on the positive on the secondary battery, one from the main battery under the hood and one to the amp, correct?
You got it!
@@ProvoBeastAudio WTF did you put the charge wire fuse in the trunk. You've got 15 feet of unprotected wire coming from the hood. What a disaster.

I like this set up. Now i want to know how would i add my 15 farad capacitor in a build like this??
Can we ground both the battery and amp on the same bolt?
Ground is ground, make sure its a solid point and yes you can
Better off with a terminal block on the battery negative
I saw on another video the guy said you have to add another ground to the first battery as well so what's that about?
J just upgrading the wires to keep them cooler from the higher amperage of your system
It’s called parallel ! for a reason
Your battery upfront should already be grounded to the block. No reason to double ground the same battery.
What did you do to keep the battery from moving?
Could I use just one fuse for cranking battery and one fuse for battery in the back instead of using 4 inline fuses?
So there’s 2 fuses between the 2 batteries and 1 between the secondary batt and the amp?
Did you ever figure that out? Because I'm still unsure if I need a fuse from my car's stock battery to the second? Or just run it straight with a powerline?
@@legendlosers2312 I would recommend fusing at both batteries, so one under the hood and one in the trunk along the power line, then a fuse for each amp that you run off the 2nd battery. You can go with just one fuse between the two batteries, or none. Just depends how safe you wanna be in case of a short, and how confident you are in your wirings ability to stay in place (and not get in an accident)
@@legendlosers2312 you can also look into using a circuit breaker under the hood instead of a fuse under the hood. stinger makes them.
@@pawkisser Thank you for clarifying!
Yea that 2nd fuse is not necessary
when is a battery isolator needed?
Battery Isolator is good when you want to listen to the radio while the car is off. This is so that if you listen to the radio for too long, the car will still start. If you only listen while driving or the car is running there is no benefit to it. For me it is useful as I have a van and like to hangout in the van and listen to music without the engine running. If I fall asleep or leave the radio on by accident, I know that the van will still start up when I want to drive away.
@@christopherhaynes8633
With an isolator, where should the 2nd fuse be placed after the one up front? Should it be placed just before the isolator, right after the isolator before the 2nd battery or both?
The batteries will end up drawing off each other and shorten their lifespan. Really bad idea unless you have matching batteries. Usually it’s the smaller battery drawing off your more expensive battery.
I have a 2015 nissan versa im going to try and build an amp rack for my 2 amps i like the back vertical board you made how did you secure it
That was clear as mud
Do u upgrade the alternator???
Jeff Deering you don’t always have to. If you’re doing a crazy system you might have to. If you have problems keeping up a charge maybe try an isolator first

right
You need one for a agm ?
What amps of kinetik would you recomen me and how many to use on 2 hifonic 2500 and 2 kicker 250.4 on a 2001 silverado single cab thanks.
Question: isnt the negative from the main battery has to go on the secondary? or you can just ground it in the trunk ?
Why isn't the battery secured? I know I'm a crazy driver and that would not stay put
It was secured off camera. Yep, you'd probably want to tie it down somehow...lol
How ?
Mie Knaem build and attach a battery box to the floor for it to set in
andrew shatlaw he is just showing you how to hook up a second battery not how to to build a battery rack fuse is a very important if you want to know how to do that look up other videos
Is there any reason to use a capacitor when you're using a second battery?
Not really.
So will I run 2 cables from the front battery to the back? 1 to amp 1 to battery? Or 1 cable from front battery to extra battery then run from extra battery to amp? How many volt battery should I get for a 3000 watt rms system? Should I run all 0 AWG for extra battery with a system pushing 3000 watts rms?
So,assuming adding a second amp, means adding one more of everything, cable, fusebox, ground? Excellent video!!!

Don't listen to them. You need to upgrade your alternator.
There should be a switch between the two batteries that will automatically separate the batteries when the car is switched off to avoid the batteries from discharging each other.Obviously the car battery is older than the one being fitted for the audio set up, so what do you think is going to happen?Rookie mistake

That's nice and all but I highly recommend equal amounts of ground wire from the main battery to the second battery. Steel does not conduct as well as copper.
Does it make a difference then if you add a second battery even if your alternator or regulator only allows so much wattage to pass through at stock???or this is jus another method instead of replacing a bigger alt and regulator?
So im looking for an amplifier with certain specs. I been looking for months and havent found anything except 1. Problem being i got a warning saying i need a different alternator to run the amp. Will every amp with those specs have the same requirement?

Alex Ramirez it's always helpful depending on the size and power..and if it's mostly stock
Provo Beast Audio Installation couldn’t you potentially lose starting power to turn the engine since no battery isolator?
Also how many amps are you drawing for the added system? It’s possible to overload the oem alternator.
For sure. If we are pulling a lot of amps at the amplifier, then it would be necessary to upgrade the alternator. But for now, the factory alternator will do us. If we were to upgrade the amp, add more batteries, our alternator would need an upgrade.
TRUST ME I HAVE BEEN DOWN THAT ROAD IF YOU ADD MOR BATTERYS whats going to charge them baterys not your stock alt good work tho

I think my car isn't giving enough juice to my amp (just over 900 watts RMS). This would solve that issue and give the amp more power, right?
My sub is 400 watts RMS and 1k peak. I've noticed that the light on my amp is dimming and on some songs it distorts. Some are pretty bad, others not so much. Given that my amp clips (during testing, I turn it down when listening) it still isn't enough to blow that 400 watt sub unless I go full distortion. I can get the full excursion on some songs, but a lot of others distort badly. I've meticulously ensured that all my connections are ideal, so at this point I'm pretty sure my car just isn't giving enough power. Everything is LED so I don't notice any headlight dimming.
TLDR: Would this solve the issue of my amp being starved for power even without an alternator upgrade?
Clean ass hell broooo
This is just 2 batteries in paralel. Startup would draw power from the second battery and probably blow up the fuse. This is just like putting a bigger battery in your car. No other benefits.
Two benefits are that battery closest to the amps can feet the amp spikes with less voltage loss and you can fit a bigger total capacity.
@@hakont.4960 I agree Hakon. and Adrian putting a bigger battery in your car is the goal but they don't sell many that will fit so we get a second. It is parallel but the 2nd is grounded remember.
