Tank, I don't know if you realize this, but Sabaton making Night Witches is now truly a story that should never be forgotten.
I did my own digging into the 588th, and sadly, I found out that the last Night Witch died in 2017 -- only a few short years ago. And just think: The women who died in combat were not recognized, until the commandant of the regiment went out, after she retired in 1956, and found the crash site of every one of her Night Witches. In this way, she ensured that her girls would be recognized for their dedication and service.
Songs like these are why these stories should never be forgotten -- because had it not been for Sabaton, I would never have learned about the Night Witches, and what they accomplished on the Eastern Front. Much respect to those women who decided that it wasn't enough to merely sit on the sidelines -- they wanted their chance to take the fight to the Germans. And they got their wish.
May those brave women of the Night Witches live on forever, in the tales and deeds, of what they did. They deserve to never be forgotten.

The Night Witches were fucking wild man. They would fly to their target in darkness, shut off their engines to stealthily glide, drop their payload, and restart their engines to get away. But they didn't have an automatic ignition to start their planes. They were given the shittiest planes in the Air Force because they were all female. They had to climb onto the wings mid-air to manually restart the propellers before climbing back in to the cockpit. Oh and they didn't take parachutes.

I'm surprised the engines couldn't be restarted from the prop windmilling - most piston-engined aircraft can be started that way. it's still a checklist item, and engines now have higher compression ratios (partly because fuel is better and more consistent, partly because metallurgy has [thankfully] moved on a bit), so older aircraft should start more easily that way. Just set the magnetos to both, throttle partly open and raise he fueling from idle/cutoff to as high as you need to get it started. If it doesn't start, fuel back to i/co, 30s full throttle to dry the cylinder and un-foul the plugs, then try again. Repeat until impact. Ages since I could fly anything, and it is still a memory item.

Actually, they were given planes that were built in the 1920s for agricultural and training purposes, that were 'remodeled' to bombers. The story about the women having to climb onto the wings happened, when the mechanism for dropping the bombs wouldn't work (which happened occasionally, as it was added hastily) and they had to do that manually. The engines and propellers were not on the wings though.

Definitely one reason why I love this song almost most from all live versions of Sabaton is that the pyrotechnics in the beginning assist the story telling of the song, after the air raid sirens the pyrotechnic effects make it look like antiair-gunfire, followed by the explosions of the planes' dropped bombs. This is so perfectly implemented in the show. I just have to love it. ^^

Oh man, that blast is just... that cadence, that rythm, that feeling of bombs dropping, that alone makes it one of my absolute favorite Sabaton songs.

I feel like Sabaton hits differently once you know more what the song is about. Watch Night Witches animated stories too. It’s well done! They have two animated stories so far: night witches and no bullets fly.
Sabaton songs somehow had a tendency to hit on the second listening
I love "Soldiers of Heaven" - but only after a couple of times hearing it
And most of the songs just give you even more gostbumps after learning the story behinde it

Chris Rörland uses ESP H-series 7-strings. Tommy switches between Ibanez S-series and ESP M-series (most likely LTD M-1000). He has also used a Charvel Gary Moore strat replica that was custom built for him. He has one in red and one in white. He used them on The Last Stand tour when he joined but didn't bring them on the latest tour.
Please watch the new "No Bullets Fly" animation video. For that you don't even need to know the story because story and song are combined there. It's brilliant.

As a keen military aviation nerd I knew the story but this video is so moving that tears were in my eyes until I saw the end and they started flowing!

Hannes also has a “baby” Yamaha set for warm up/practicing off stage. That’s an official name for it, I’m sure 😂 You can see him use it in their vlogs a lot. Side note: their vlogs are really funny. Great group of guys.

For something different by Sabaton I suggest their song "The Final Solution", which is a slower, quite emotional song about the Holocaust. They seldom play it live and I haven't found a good live video of it but since you are going to be reacting to a lot of Sabaton I think you should do the music video. You can talk about their gear some other time. :)

I just recently started listening to Sabaton !! I fell in love with them straight away.
Oh you have so much to look forward too! I have been a fan since i saw them the first time live in a small local rockbar where I live, i think that was in 2008 so that makes 12 years, seen them 8 more times since then, easily in the top three of best live bands I have ever seen!

You should check out the studio version of The Final Solution. Its a loaded song, but the live versions really dont do it justice imo. But i know you're gonna love it.

Awesome!!!! Saw them 2016 at the Corona Northside Open Air in Monterrey Mexico. Amazing band with the proper size of stage. Tank drum set was there!

"Undetected unexpected" comes from them shutting their engine off ahead of the target and basically gliding in to drop their bombs. If the Flak-lights didn't get them the bombs sometimes came out of nowhere.
I *think* this was the opener the first time I ever heard Sabaton.... who were opening for my first Nightwish concert. My daughter & I have been fans ever since. I was quite the proud pappa when hearing 'Swedish Pagans' blasting from her car one day :). What I really love about Sabaton's music is that after you've given a listen & rocked out, there's a wealth of history behind each song. I've learned more about European history through Sabaton than I ever got in school. BTW - after you watch/react to 'Swedish Pagans', do yourself a favor & watch some of the viking-esque vids with SP as the soundtrack. They're a hoot.
Love the channel man. Not only great music but its awesome to learn about instruments the artists use and the different equipment in their shows as well.

Also, I would like to suggest Price of a Mile for next Sabaton Saturday. It is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Like En Livstid i Krig it departs from their usual sound and is super emotional.

I'd highly recommend anything from the 2020 Great Tour Live videos (also worth checking out the version of Attack of the Dead Men with Radio Tapok in Moscow), anything from Woodstock 2012 Live, and the live show from Wacken 2019 (special anniversary for Sabaton with some cool extras)
i was at their concert in borlänge yesterday and they opened it with night witches which was an incredible banger live and they're amazing when it comes to crowdwork and getting us involved :D
This was the first song I heard from Sabaton. I initially heard it a few years ago, and I absolutely fell in love with their sound. This song is still one of my favorites from them. That chorus just hits so hard.

I highly recommend “To Hell and back” or “Screaming Eagles” next. I just wanna add I was listening to this without headphones, and the panning was still accurate for the guitars.
An interresting (?) gear fact for bass nerds: Pär often uses the top 4 strings of a 5-string setup for his bass, to get the lower range. Perhaps you've already talked about this, but in that case, I've missed that... Keep up the great work, Tank!

Considering you like reacting to stuff around the show as well, it might be fun to add the last 10 minutes or so of their "The great tour 2020" vlog (Episode 5) to one of your reactions (or just watch them all for your own pleasure, but do know they do show shots of the shows themselves too as that might spoil things for your reactions), as Hannes takes some time to show some of the other things and people around the show that make it all possible. There's more stuff in their other vlogs as well, but the response of Hannes once he hears how much "explosives" they use during the tour is hilarious imho..

Definitely one of my favorite Sabaton songs. I have only seen them live once(first time I ever heard of them, immediately started buying their music after the show), and it was at a small venue, so I didn't get to see production like that, but it looks like they have a really cool setup for their bigger shows.
Till this day, after listening to sabaton for 6+ years, this is the strongest song intro ever, especially this live version. Change my mind.

I've been at that show. Second row. It was a blast. It was my last live show in 2020. And Tank if you are interested you can watch some of their tour dairies on youtube. There they show a lot of the production team like the audio and pyro teams.
Hey Tank mate! Still the only music reaction Channel i really like, came with Eskimo Callboy, stayed for the content :). On of the best live concerts that i watched on yt and left a big impact on me, is Linkin Park live at Rock am Ring 2004. It is an incredible performance with quite some awesome indiviudual changes in some songs (a place for my head, papercut). If i would have to recommend a single one it would be a place for my head, but the whole show is worth to take a look . Keep up the good work and greetings from Germany. Happy new year :)
I love this song for many reason and one of my best Sabaton live experiences was when they premiered Night Witches live at Sweden Rock. They lit up the stage and those sirens started sounding.. Magic! The whole show there was amazing and you could tell it was emotional for the guys.
