Part of the reason Yevdokia Rachkevich went searching for all the crash sites was that if a soldier was listed as "missing in action", the family wouldn't receive their benefits. The all women regiments were the created after Major Marina Raskova convinced Stalin they could aid the war. Three regiments were created, the 586th Fighter Aviation Regiment, the 587th Bomber Aviation Regiment and the 588th Night Bomber Regiment. Although all were intended to be all female, the 586th and 587th soon became mixed gender due to a shortage of qualified women. The 587th and 588th were renamed Guards Regiments during the war to recognize their contribution and success. Guards units are considered elite units. Raskova was killed in a crash in 1943 while serving as the commander of the 587th.
In 1981, the movie "Night Witches in the Sky" was released in the Soviet Union (IMDb ID 0232882). Just about the hero girls who fought against the German Nazis in the 46th Guards Night Bomber Aviation Regiment (ex. 588th Night Light Bomber Aviation Regiment). Many women participated in the Great Patriotic War. Medics, snipers, bomber pilots, fighter pilots, anti-aircraft gunners. And how many women mastered men's professions and worked in the rear, helping the front! Films have been made about many of them, books have been written, and museums have been created. We remember and honor our heroic ancestors.
Don't forget the woman who, upon having lost her husband who was a T-34 tank commander, sold her property, and with the monetary award from the Soviet government, bought a T-34 tank. She then went to a training unit, spent 2 months to learn how to operate and command the tank, and then sought out her husband's old tank crew. She then commanded that tank until the end of the war.
thanks for this! thought you would like it! Related to the Night Witches - Lidiya Litvyak was a Russian fighter pilot, all female 586th fighter regiment. She shot down a German fighter ace near her base, surviving the crash he did not believe she ( being TOO PRETTY!) had shot him down until she told him exactly how the fight had gone! She was denied the Hero of the Soviet Union medal because she was shot down but not found (maybe) until 1991. Learned to fly at 14, flew solo at 15, by the time she was shot down ( in a four-to-one fight at low level and fog/clouds! - she may have even got three of them before they got her!) Lidiya had between 11 and 14 kills and had taught more than 50 other people to fly. ..... the Night Witches planes, the Po-2, was so useful that it was never fully replaced in civilian service until the 1990's by helicopters! In total, 261 people served in the regiment, of whom 32 died of various causes during the war including plane crashes, combat deaths and tuberculosis. Twenty-eight aircraft were written off. Twenty-three personnel from the regiment were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, two were awarded Hero of the Russian Federation, and one was awarded Hero of Kazakhstan.

If you wish to see something more about the "Night Witches", there is 1945 film about them, called "Небесный тихоход" (The Sky slow-mover). I think version with en subs can be foun on youtube.
Sabaton has a history channel on youtube, called "the sabaton history channel" :-). would really love to see you react to those video's, especially the ones about their songs you love.
Sabaton always do a lot of research for every song to make it correct and they are always neutral. And if you come to Sweden and meet them in person at a concert or festival they always take time for you, really nice guys!
Galya Komleva, a fragile girl, a resident of the village of Taranovichi (Leningrad region). She became a liaison between the underground and the partisans. She was tracked down and captured. The interrogations in the Gestapo lasted two months. Almost daily, or even several times a day, she was called in for questioning, trying to find out about her connection with the partisans. The stubborn 14-year-old girl was silent. Adults were amazed at her courage. Galya Komleva did not betray anyone. Two months after her arrest, the fascists realized that they could not break the girl. On February 20, 1943, Galya Komleva and other prisoners were taken to the village of Vasilkovichi, where they were shot.Posthumously, the young liaison Galya Komleva was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War, 1st degree. Teenager. Kid. And there were many of them.
The thing is even if they did catch on....a biplane , often with wood parts and having canvas wings and fussilage means low radar visibility so quite stealthy.
Sabaton have such amazing songs about even more amazing stories and people, my favorite is still The Balad of Bull. Perhaps the least metal of their songs but the tale they tell is nothing short of incredible and inspiring, and the man they talk about deserves more recognition.
I did once read a book about Night Witches. I found out that there were female fighter-pilots too. Those old Po-2:s were a regular sight in Finland's airspace too during the war. Finns called them "coffee-mills". Great reaction as always. Greetings from Finland.
On September 24, 1942, pilot Valeria Khomyakova destroyed a German Junkers-88 bomber while repelling a raid on Saratov. Lieutenant Khomyakova became the first female pilot in the USSR to shoot down a German plane. Literally two weeks later, Valeria died while flying on another mission.
I am a newcomer and a subscriber. I love your reactions. This is the Sabaton story song that I have heard. I absolutely love the animation. If only they would have had something like this in history class in school I would have probably paid more attention. Ì am learning so much about the world wars. I never knew anything about this story. Just as with No Bullets Fly. I love their music. Thank you for being here. Love you much. ❤❤❤. Keep the great music coming. Also just to add, I was born 3 years after The Commisar went to find where the pilots went down.
The Night Witches fought throughout the entire war. Their final aerodrome was located less than 40 miles from Berlin. The 588th also stayed entirely female with one exception - a man worked with them for a few days - until a supply unit sent him some panties. he couldn't take it, and transferred out immediately. The Night Witches put great effort into maintaining their femininity - they used grease pencils for makeup. BTW, I'm working on a screenplay about the Night Witches, so hopefully you will see a film about them one day. The name "Night Witches" was a derogatory term used by the Germans, but the women embraced the name and took it for themselves. On another note, the women who went searching for women after the war did it for reasons besides love for her girls. At the time of the war, any Soviet military person who could not be found was considered a traitor to the USSR. She wanted to ensure her girls got the respect due to them.
Antonina Lebedeva - shot down 3 enemy planes personally and in a group with her comrades in air battles. During the Battle of Kursk, she joined the battle as part of four Soviet fighters against 30 Nazi aircraft. In this fight, the girl died. She was 27 years old.
One thing to add about the Night Witches. When they would do their low and slow bombing runs sometimes the latch would not release the bomb and the navigator would have to crawl out onto the wing and release it manually. That takes some serious onions to do that.
If you liked this one, you should continue the "Bad@$$ women in war who have gone unappreciated" streak and watch Sabaton's Yarnhub collaboration for their song "Lady of the Dark"
I was just to suggest Lady of the dark but many others did that first. Just make sure you see the animated motion version and not the one with still pictures.
Alexandra Leontievna Boyko. During the war, together with her husband Alexander Fedorovich, they contributed 50 thousand rubles for the construction of the IS-2 Kolyma tank. Alexandra Leontievna became a tank commander, and her husband became a driver. Their tank knocked out a total of about 7 enemy tanks, including several Tigers. They participated in the battles for the liberation of the Baltic States, Poland and Czechoslovakia.
I would recommend to you to check out the Sabaton History Channel. As a fellow nerd, I'm going to recommend Jason Morningstar's Night Witches RPG from Bully Pulpit Games. Although it's not exactly an academic work, it does go into the circumstances around the founding of this regiment, as well as what it was like being a member.
I'm sure folks have mentioned it, but just in case I'll put it out there. Sabaton also has a history channel that goes into a lot more detail on their songs named SabatonHistory
Actually BBC already have made a documentary about this subject, with live interview of some of the last living members from 588 USSR Aerial Night Bombing Regiment. One of them told: ye could even puncture the plane frame with your own thumb. Thats how rotten/fragile some of the plywood structure was.
I told you, GIRL POWER De Luxe!! About that tv-series...in these times, since an active war is ongoing, I see no chance that any company would risk putting a glazing Aura over pilots from that region. But maybe I'm wrong...only the future can tell. Much love to you and Ukraine 💙💛💙🌻🌻🌻🙃
Lady of the Dark is the song you should do next, or maybe Red Baron, you should also consider doing an episode of a compilation of Sabaton's biggest hits of all time
Can I suggest that you check out "The Jam". Songs like A town called Malice, Going underground, Eton rifles and That's entertainment are worth listening to.
I don’t know if someone’s told you before but sabaton have a second channel called sabaton history where a historian go into deep dive into each song they make and give you more history facts. So if you do a reaction or not or simply do it on your own doesn’t matter, just wanted to let you know
This another great music video/song and education from Sabaton. Think the commander here is depicted in Sabaton's 1916 video, do not recall exactly some commenter talked about so many things in the 1916 videos was related to historical events.

. Pilot Ekaterina Zelenko, the only woman who participated in the Soviet-Finnish War and committed an air ram during the Great Patriotic War, fought as part of the 135 short-range bombing regiment. Few people know about the feat of Alexandra Polyakova, the only woman who decided on a fiery ram. On September 12, 1941, she flew two reconnaissance sorties on a Su-2 aircraft. Despite the fact that her plane was damaged during the second flight, she flew on a mission for the third time on the same day. On the way back near the city of Romny, two Soviet aircraft were attacked by seven German Me-109s. The second Soviet aircraft was shot down and was forced to withdraw from the battle. Zelenko was able to shoot down one plane, and when she ran out of ammunition, she rammed a second German plane. Thus, she destroyed him, but at the same time she died herself. Ekaterina Zelenko received the Order of the Red Banner during her lifetime for her participation in the Soviet-Finnish War. She also participated in the military tests of the Su-2. She was on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War from the first day. She fought as part of the 135 BBAP, was the deputy commander of the squadron. She flew 40 combat missions and conducted 12 aerial battles. A minor planet of the Solar System is named after her. and these are not all pilots... not counting other types of vocs

She is known by the nickname "White Lily". She died at the age of less than 22 in a battle over the Mius Front. She was posthumously promoted twice to the rank of lieutenant in 1943 and to senior lieutenant in 1990. She is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the female pilot who won the largest number of victories in air battles in the entire history of military aviation. The white lily. German pilot non-commissioned officer Erwin Mayer was captured near Stalingrad on September 13, 1942. He was an experienced pilot: he had 11 downed Soviet planes on his account, but he himself was defeated. His Messerschmitt was shot down by a Yak-1 aircraft, the pilot of which was distinguished by high combat skills. Mayer himself managed to jump out with a parachute and already on the ground he was accepted by the strong hands of the Red Army. During the interrogation, Erwin Mayer asked to look at the pilot who shot him down, but he did not like what he saw. The German ace could not believe for a long time that he was hit by a woman. At first, he thought he was just being bullied. But the girl gestured at the elements of combat known only to the two of them. And then, according to one version, the German took off his watch and presented it to his winner, and according to another, tore off his Knight's Cross and threw it at her feet.

Oktyabrskaya Maria Vasilyevna used her own funds to pay for the construction of the T-34 "Combat Friend" tank. After that, she sent a letter to the Kremlin asking to be sent to the front. Stalin personally approved of her initiative. Thus, Oktyabrskaya became a tank driver. She was mortally wounded in battle in 1944 and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. You can write about the female heroes of that war until morning. In the West, very little is known about the war on the territory of the USSR and the battles of the Red army . In the USSR, women received equal rights with men in 1917.
Zinaida Martynovna Portnova A Soviet underground worker, a partisan, a member of the underground organization "Young Avengers". She was born on February 20, 1926 in Leningrad. Since 1942, he has been a member of the Obol underground organization "Young Avengers". Since August 1943, she has been a scout for the K. E. Voroshilov partisan detachment in the territory of the Belarusian SSR occupied by the Nazis. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated July 1, 1958, Zinaida Martynovna Portnova was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously) with the award of the Order of Lenin. At one of the interrogations in the Gestapo, the investigator threatened her with a pistol containing "one" cartridge, Zina bravely remained silent, suddenly cars drove into the yard and the investigator was distracted. Then she grabbed the investigator's pistol from the table, shot him and two other Nazis, tried to escape, but was captured near the river. After that, she was tortured for more than a month, trying to get any information about the partisans. She didn't turn anyone in. The Germans did not receive any information from her On the morning of January 10, 1944, she was shot in prison, she was only 17 years old
They could not be detected because they were flying low during night. To add also to their bravery they had no parachutes since it is useless at low altitude.

Sabaton is so good. Amazing piece of history
Дождался) Из Сибири с Любовью!
I’m a former Army attack helicopter pilot with combat experience, who now flies jets. Nice reaction! It’s not the plane, it’s the pilot! 🤣
Such an inspiring story! you should do ''The First Soldier'' next, it also has an animated music video!
NEW VIDEO!!! Let's gooooo!!!
I did once read a book about Night Witches. I found out that there were female fighter-pilots too. Those old Po-2:s were a regular sight in Finland's airspace too during the war. Finns called them "coffee-mills". Great reaction as always. Greetings from Finland.
Gotta take a look at another amazing female war story they wrote about called Lady of the Dark.
They were the most decorated unit in the Soviet Air Force.
You need to check out “Lady of the Dark”. If you watched the first Wonder Woman, she walks into no man’s land. That lady did that for real.
❤❤❤😢😢😢
One thing to add about the Night Witches. When they would do their low and slow bombing runs sometimes the latch would
not release the bomb and the navigator would have to crawl out onto the wing and release it manually. That takes some serious
onions to do that.
If you liked this one, you should continue the "Bad@$$ women in war who have gone unappreciated" streak and watch Sabaton's Yarnhub collaboration for their song "Lady of the Dark"
You should definitely take a look at "Forevermore" - Whitesnake live 2022!!
As well as I would like to tell you about our all female Sabaton Fan groupe ( even listed on Sabatons Homepage) the Sabaton Nightwitches Division. We do have a Facebook group, a messanger chat, our own patch etc. We are women from all around the world, with all kind of different backgrounds. We are a very active group. 😊
As a fellow nerd, I'm going to recommend Jason Morningstar's Night Witches RPG from Bully Pulpit Games. Although it's not exactly an academic work, it does go into the circumstances around the founding of this regiment, as well as what it was like being a member.
You should check out the Lady of the dark next, Milunka Savic was a real badass! Also they have a animated story about her aswell.
Ghost BC - Ritual Live Studio this is by far my fav Ghost song…would love to see how you like it.
I'm sure folks have mentioned it, but just in case I'll put it out there. Sabaton also has a history channel that goes into a lot more detail on their songs named SabatonHistory
they're, essentially, the first stealth night bombers.
Much love to you and Ukraine
💙💛💙🌻🌻🌻🙃
Yeeeeeh! Bruca's suggestion!
Make sure to check out Sabaton History Channel (their second youtube channel), to get in depth episodes about each song.
Lady of the Dark is the song you should do next, or maybe Red Baron, you should also consider doing an episode of a compilation of Sabaton's biggest hits of all time
I recommend reacting to sabaton's lady of the dark
Love your reactions for Sabaton. It would be awesome if you did one for Beast In Black-Blind and Frozen
Can I suggest that you check out "The Jam". Songs like A town called Malice, Going underground, Eton rifles and That's entertainment are worth listening to.
I like that youre into Swedish music 🇸🇪👍🏻
If you haven't already you should check out the Sabaton History.
Think the commander here is depicted in Sabaton's 1916 video, do not recall exactly some commenter talked about so many things in the 1916 videos was related to historical events.
song white lily from the радио тапок Slippers Lydia (Lilia) Vladimirovna Litvyak Soviet fighter ace pilot, aviation flight commander, guard junior lieutenant, the most successful female pilot of World War II, Hero of the Soviet Union. Known by her nickname 'White Lily'
If I recall it correctly there were 261 members in the 588th nightbomber regiment.
Opeth is another band from Sweden. From very heavy to calm and melodic. Try out the song Faith in Others very melodic and graceful piece. Greetings from Sweden 😂
Give 'Lady of the Dark' a try they even discuss the story on the Sabaton history page

Lydia (Lily) Vladimirovna Litvyak is a Soviet fighter aviation ace pilot, aviation flight commander, Guard second lieutenant, the most productive female pilot of World War II, Hero of the Soviet Union (05/5/1990, posthumously).
I flew a fighter jet. and this is not a complete list of female heroes of the USSR
Rodina in RU means Homeland
Thanks for your reaction. I hightly recomend you Sabaton - attack of the dead men. There is even more facinating history episode.

Night Witches is sabaton cover..... its russian song "ночные ведьмы" by radio tapok))))))with his consent)
Women are the bosses… men know it.. and we love it ❤️❤️❤️
Nice reaction.
Zinaida Martynovna Portnova
A Soviet underground worker, a partisan, a member of the underground organization "Young Avengers".
The Germans did not receive any information from her
On the morning of January 10, 1944, she was shot in prison, she was only 17 years old
Metallica Fade To Black live in Seattle 1989. Definitely think you should check it out!
You should look at "En livstid i krig" live in gothenburg! Thats one of the best live videos after Pantera in moscow in 91 or when it was...
Now that's girl power!
They could not be detected because they were flying low during night. To add also to their bravery they had no parachutes since it is useless at low altitude.
It’s gonna get you good pick
❤
I know I'm late to this video, but cutting off their engines to bomb the engines.
Just to restart their engines midflight is an incredible feat as it is. And to do it during a bombing raid, it deserves all the respect it deserves!
I think there is a drunk history episode about the Night Witches for example.
Red Baron is also a great song by them.
