What is it about the Zamboni guy that we like so much? We don't know anything about this guy, yet we still feel emotion when we see him at the end, looking sad at the end of it. It's pretty impressive when a movie can make you feel sorry for a guy you know nothing about. All we can do is speculate and assume he lost someone he loved at some point.
So here's the weird thing. I pretty much dislike Adam Sandler movies (except maybe for The Wedding Singer), but I think this scene may be one of the all time great love scenes ever filmed in any movie. Especially the way she gives in even after making the shot and the way the Zamboni driver sings. If you can't feel something watching this, you might be dead.
It's all about the zamboni driver. The way he lowers his head down at the end feels so scincere... I hope he knows he's the main reason people come back to this scene.
there was a time when Sandler's heart was young and pure....a precocious young man, he had a vision....and that vision was to make simple honest and stupid humor, with some genuine romance in there as well. then...he got old. "I'm sorry, I used to be much stronger."
Here is the thing about Adam's movies, he always managed to somehow make you go through every emotion starting with laughter through some type of intro character development. Then he introduces the problem with said character which allows people to empathize. He still keeps bits that are funny while transitioning into the character's journey to overcome their issue. Then comes the potential love interest and I always admire how he always chose beautiful actresses for that role. Throughout the movies, he would keep you entertained with hilariously ridiculous scenes and dialogue, but in this movie, Sandler hits you a few times with these bits of emotion that you just can't help but immerse into. This skating scene along with the last vision of his happy place when Chubbs sings really make this movie stand out from some of his others. Happy Gilmore is a true classic.
I can't decide which is the better line from this clip. "I didn't break it, I was testing its durability." or "What? Friends listen to _Endless Love_ in the dark."
He doesn't even give a reason why, like it's a special puck given to him by someone or that it's his lucky puck. He just carries it for the sake of carrying it. xD
I love how the comments are from people who grew up to appreciate the Janitor, and how much that simple scene conveys. It's played as a joke...but DAMN do I feel it now as a 40 year old.
The ultimate movie of Adam Sandler. I love that movie for everything (music, humor, picture...). The grand mother that say I want you to be happy! Wow! Touching! :D
someone in my family while watching this with me made the comment as the janitor sung "that is you" never got why that was me but i always remember that...
Anyone else feel like that janitor had little more goin on in this then they indeed to be more of..just the way he sung and slowly looked down with a small sigh..I felt that my man, I know...I know...endless love never ends for some, even when one of them is gone maybe
Kind sound like my grandma die my mom brother put my aunt in nursing home, I only saw her once and later she die. Was so sad. One greatest classic film movie. Thank You. Truth is was my grandma sister. Took good care of her family back old days. Living on farm.
oh my god like a month ago i had my bf over for a night and i remember we watched happy gilmore to fall asleep to and i remember i woke up just before this scene started and then i fell asleep to it again while laying on his chest and ive never felt safer krhwjwhrh
@@JaFeelMeBro uh bro she aged 20 years. Lefs see you after that. I personally think she looks better now. Funny no one talks about adams looks but all his leading ladies get critiqued on their looks. Gotta love misogyny
@@AM-gt1yt Well because the pool of women who could fill the roles in Sandler movies are pretty large. Thousands of women that could do just as good of a job as her in this so really the obvious variable is the woman's appearance and the advantage goes to the women who are more attractive. Pretty obvious that's the case. Obviously some people are misogynistic and very critical of women's appearance but often women will feed into that by objectifying themselves. Example is all these tik tok videos being made of women doing something while wearing tight revealing clothing. 95% of the motive to try to look hot in front of a camera to get views and receive enforcement that they are hot/cute, etc. (ex. Tons of videos of girls showing their "golf swing" off wearing clothes that wouldn't exactly qualify as golf attire, haha. Maximum tightness and/or minimal amount of clothing as possible. UA-cam is littered with those clips, haha. And these women know exactly what they're doing. So not sure why you're whipping out the misogyny card regarding Adam Sandler movies.. I think you've been watching too much MSNBC (which is just trash along with all other msm both liberal and conservative. But yeah, chill out with the victim PC shit. Only use the misogyny card when it's actually about something causing women noticeable inequality. Models are selected based on their appearance and they get critiqued. Is the existence of models misogynistic?
What makes this stand out compared to later Adam Sandler comedies is that there's actual pathos to this scene. Happy is making himself emotionally vulnerable to Virginia by confiding in her about his grandma, which in turn makes her receptive to his efforts at wooing her. In short, they feel like real people in this scene unlike the laziness of the characters in a movie like That's My Boy. The shot of the Zamboni guy is just icing on the cake since you can also feel his heartache from listening to Endless Love.
What i love of modern family is that i always have Happy Gilmore and Married with children to picture the Jay and claire old Stories, for example when they talk about Claire getting pregnant i always imagine this claire
The way the Janitor looks down at the end of the song, feels like he lost an endless love at a point of his life
He looks down cause the battery died and its a for shawdowing of his bonner going down like the ball dropping in the holes mate
I feel his pain because I lost my endless love and i decided to stay single for the rest of my life
True.
He was cheated on
The Lore Deepens with this comment
As a kid Happy’s kiss was intense. As an adult you understand the janitor so much more 😂
Facts
I only came here to see the janitor at the end 😂
Me too
"my love, my love"
Lol
We all did!
Lol me too
I love that the janitor is singing Diana Ross' part, lol
Hes' a rink attendant. You treat those lonely bastards right and they'll be as loyal as this man.

I Don't care, the janitor stole the scene, he felt something in the air that day.💥
At least I didn't punch anybody lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This date scene is better than most actual Romance movies. Adam Sandler is so smooth here.
Not better then the movie with Broke Shields
Friends listen to "Endless Love" in the dark.😂😅😆😄
Julie Bowen is an absolute fox.
macfan128 and she’s gotten better with age, in my view.
I just realized that’s her.
She is so beautiful
She’s a cutie
She looks stunning in Horrible Bosses.
We need a whole movie about the janitor. There’s more tragedy of lost love in his one scene than the entire movie.
It's called "I'm Thinking of Ending Things".
I sense this as well
"I didn't see it go in" - a moment of respect for how smooth that line is.
“...My love! (My love, my love),
My, endless love.” 😓
Zamboni guy’s love clearly ended somehow 😭😭😭
Song is great, scene is lovely but in the end the scene has bit of sadness when Zamboni guy looks down. As if he was remembering someone special !
I was thinking the same thing
That's sad I see that
Lmao love it! Glad you noticed too
There's a back story on that maintenance man. His name is David Axlerod. Look it up.

They get onto the rink. "You used to play ice hockey?!" "Shut up!" 😂😂😂😂
Best version of endless love I've ever seen hats off to zamboni guy
Yeah, the best part is the Janitor singing Diana Ross' part of "my love, my love"
Something so special about the janitor at the end
"Did you set this up?" "NOOOO!"

We’re all back here because of the Zamboni driver. You gotta feel something in this scene.
This scene is honestly really touching and sweet.
The Janitor Felt Dat Shit At The End😂😂😂😂
Adam is the f*cking goat
Especially in the 90s
I remember when I was a kid and first saw this and I tear up my parents was like u ok ?
And I was like it’s just beautiful 😂😂
I feel bad for the janitor, he doesn't get a girl

He has his Zamboni. That’s all he needs.

When Zambomi Bows His Head Down It Really Hits Me In The Feels 😭💔
People can badmouth Adam Sandler movies all they want, but the blocking at the end of this scene is Oscar-quality, and I'm not afraid to say it.
This is easily his best movie, no questions asked.

I can't wait to watch the sequel of happy gilmore 2. It will come out at the theaters very soon.
Somebody please give the Zamboni Guy an oscar and his own movie!
This is the part of the movie where they make us Love Happy, as does his Love interest. My favorite “sports movie” of all time😂🙏
Who hurt you sweet sweet zamboni driver...
Shout out to my man the Zamboni driver. You really made me feel this scene in a movie that's supposed to be funny. Damn :(. Lost love.
When I was a kid I thought this scene was boring. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized it’s one of the best scenes in the movie.
The best scene of all times...
Here's to all the Zamboni drivers...the unspoken heroes of hockey!
Billy Madison and happy Gilmore are my favorites
GREAT HAPPY GILMORE (1996 ) FILM - SKATING DATE SCENE !!!

Rocky should have sang that to Adrian when he took her ice skating in the movie Rocky .

Love the ending.... the janitor closing lipsync is something else!
The awesome randomness of the ending of this scene is what made this movie
This is genuinely a sweet scene. It's not too surprising he went on to do stuff like The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates with Drew Barrymore

It’s great movies like this in this legendary janitor scene that introduced me to great music
We all sighed in sadness with the janitor at the end.
Diana Ross - Endless Love is a beautiful song. The song was featured in my parents’ wedding video
I’m only here for the janitor
I love the chemistry between Adam Sandler and Julie Bowen in this movie

It’s Julie Bowen who played Claire
Comedy Central cut it for time so I had to come here to watch it, but the way he sighs and puts his head down at the end is the greatest thing ever
