I still play the game sometimes but the unlimited special summons and other rules killed the entire game mechanics within the years so that devs could milk players with new powerful archetypes all X months, especially to compete in tourneys etc but it is what is today, sadly. One of the realest vids I’ve seen about this game. It’s a very love hate relationship! Some duels I see them 3 moves and I already know I won’t be able to do anything come my turn. Also with the not friendly to new players I’ve tried to introduce friends to this game and they’ve uninstall pretty quickly after getting “meta” decked off the back when using a starter deck. Like you say there’s a deck for everyone and all I do is run Dark Magician (just waiting for the day to see if red eyes dark dragoon ever gets unbanned) regardless of there being better decks, it’s fun, cool looking and doesn’t require me wrapping my head around unholy combos. The community is also great from my experience, met one guy online nearly couple years ago and after a 35 mins duel (which I lost!) and after couple messages after the match we’ve spoken ever since and have a blast playing casual classic games, mainly sweating over what face down cards are sat in the back row 😆
Glad you enjoyed the video 😁and exactly! Like as unbalanced and off the wall as the game is sometimes it still can be a ton of fun if you get past the initial learning cliff lol. Ah DM is super fun, I enjoy decks like that, that are straightforward but they're still capable of making good plays.
The current meta is basically engines and handtraps. The Duel Triangle right now is very fun because people are using loaner decks and not the engine/handtrap meta deck. I managed to get a lot of comeback victory thanks to the event.
Well at least that's still mostly unchanged, gotta run at least 15 non engine and be able to combo off with one card to be meta. Honestly i like loaner deck kinda stuff. Much like a limited format it makes you get creative with what you're given which I just think is fun
Yugioh is extremely unique but to me and what feels like a lot of people, hit a breaking point in the last couple of years where the power level is legitimately out of control. Yugioh has seen broken tier 0 decks, but once Konami bans problem cards and the tier 0 deck gets knocked down several pegs, yugioh returns to its "normal" state. But the way things are now, it feels like no matter what happens, the average state of the game is not "normal". The best and most powerful decks run amok, and its not due to specific problem cards, every card released these days is a problem card. Card games can't go backwards in power level relative to what already exists, ie no one would buy a pack of 80% normal monsters like they did in 2001. This is fine to a degree and how its handled, but I think yugioh as a game with no resource system is starting to fundamentally break down. Hard once per turns can only do so much if the card like you said in the video "just wins you the game" if not stopped.
All very true and good points! Yeah the general consensus is that the game is currently in a tier 0 format with Snake eyes and the other powerful fire support and like you said they'll probably end up banning some of the better cards for the deck. Honestly I think the only way they could really remedy it is by printing more stuff like the recent illusion support that's more general in usage with a medium level power level. They're fun and definitely playable but not broken by any means. But the genie is out of the bottle already and with as stupidly powerful as all the cards printed after like 2015 are, you can't really go back from that.
Honestly the game as been getting in a fairly good direction beneath the broken mess that is snake eyes. A lot of varied strategies, deck that enjoy to go second... the game is getting further away from omni negate and generic monster and I had some of my favorite match recently so I have hope. However I always loved how crazy the game is so I'm biased
I agree, apart from the clear best decks in the format at the moment, we're seeing cards made in 2008 becoming playable and winning games. I think if you look hard enough you can find a lot of fun viable deck ideas. Agreed though I absolutely love how dumb and crazy the game is so I too am biased lol
I'm not going against what you're saying about the price, because you are completely right about that, it's very dumb that Wanted is a $80+ (you use 3 wanted) card and that S:P is $108 card (you use 1-2 S:P) I just wanted to say that putting the CR turbulence is kind of disingenuous, the lower rarity UR is $5-$6 per copy. On a side note, I've been advocating for us to get a ton of people to go to a YCS with OCG cards in their decks as a sign of protest. If we can get enough people to do it then it'll cause massive problems for Konami, they can and will De-que us all, but it'll look horrible and will hopefully force change. That or we could do the easier, and harder, thing of just not buying their products. If they don't sell anything then that will definitely force change. The only issue here is getting enough people to agree to this, which you'd think that it would be easier to get enough people to agree this this compared to agreeing to the other plan.. It would likely be easier to convince enough people to spend a ton of money going to a YCS, signing up for it, and asking them to get De-qued automatically while also risking a ban for 6 months if not longer, than it would be to convince enough people to just not spend money on sealed yugioh products.
That's fair for sure. And true I just picked one of the more recent prints I wasn't aware there was a lower rarity. That being said most of us prefer the shinier versions anyway lol one dude at locals has max rarity hero deck that's a ridiculous sum of money. that would be a great way to get the point across for sure. But you're right I doubt most people would take a DQ for it.
That's quite the compliment thank you! Yeah I can recognize that it's not a perfectly balanced game but it's absolutely got a ton of good parts to it and it keeps me engaged with it consistently which I can't say about many other types of games
Yu-Gi-Oh was fantastic up until the oh so common one turn win decks became a thing. I sure love waiting 5 minutes for constant chains just to not take a single turn.
Agreed, and while I still like the game it does kinda force the player to run things to specifically stop that exact thing from happening and I think that's kind of boring.
Yeah, while I was able to follow the Yug train from as early as GX back then, I couldn't keep up with the sheer stupidity of having to run card interruptions that feel out of whack with the game (during the Master Rule 5 to be exact), it destroyed my love for the card game and made me refuse to play Duel Masters at all cost. That's a shame, because there is basically an archetype for everyone... On the other hand, the Yugioh video games, for the jank of those released before actual rules started to exist, have an eternal charm to it (and a frozen moment in time of the available cards when the game was made), like Forbidden Memories for example, or even spinoffs that would be nearly impossible to properly translate to irl, like Capsule Monsters (idk if this had an actual niche hit to make into irl), or (my favorite of them all) Dungeon Dice Monsters which did have an irl counterpart, but never got the hit it could have deserved, and Duelist of the Roses, which you get codes from beating FMR (forbidden memories) that works in Roses (same code found on cards at the time)
I do still love the game but I agree it can be annoying when you need to run certain cards in order to have a fighting chance. As for the games they all vary in terms of quality but they're super fun sometimes and while the rules generally don't make sense it can still be a great time. I remember the one for GBC (Dark Duel Stories I think was the name) you could just fusion summon by sending monsters from hand to grave and it was always the wrong monsters for that fusion, it was great lol.
My issue with the paper tcg is the rarity spread. Currently one of the best deck in the format will set you back 500+ on a borrowed self life. Yeah you can play rogue decks and all but it gets tiresome getting blown out.
That's absolutely fair yeah that's why I don't often play meta since it is so expensive. You can get some staples and such for fairly cheap but generally it's gonna cost you a ton
When you talk about flood gate, does are real anyoing the majority of the time the one that you can only control 1 monster of the same type. So for example if the only monster is sphere mode on your side of the field, that is a divine beast, even thought he would leave as a cost to special summoned the wing dragon of ra, you can't acitvate the wing dragon of ra effect because your attempting to control to divine beast monster. Some tournament even the judge might have goten that wrong an still allowed it to go throught when it should not, when it comes to real life tournament and not digital way of playing. And that makes it worst when it is combine with you can only control one type of monster, so that mean you lock from summoning anything if you control one monster, even if a monster leave the field as cost, you can't summoned anything.
Absolutely it can be really annoying both to play against and to wrap your head around but I'd rather play against those than 40 minute combo decks if I'm being honest
@@captainmeaty_png In yugioh master duel they sometimes still claim it is a 40 minutes combo but you only have 5 minutes in your first turn, so it is imposible to be a 40 minutes combo. At first in Yugioh master duel rating was 8 minutes in the first turn. And they still claim it was a 40 minutes combo. They over exagerate the number because it feels like a 40 minutes when it is just a 4 minutes wait.
Thanks for sharing your story, that genuinely comes from a place of love for the game. Although all of its downfalls are warranted, I think there are so many great stories to share that make this terrible game one we all enjoy :)
Of course lol thank you so much for the kind words! I've definitely had so many fun times and memories with this goofy dumb card game that even though I get annoyed with it I still love it in equal measure.
OWNERS: Yeah buy our over priced paper to make a deck that cost $100+ but also make sure you shower too. PLAYERS: Yeah I can't shower because I spent all my money to get this deck. ME: MAKE CARDS NOT BE VALUED AS MUCH.
The YGO Community for me is a big deal. At my LGS our community is super sweaty with almost everyone being on 300-400€ Meta decks and we play at the same time as Pokemon which has ofc a mix of children etc. But whats so funny is, after every game is done and a person sweated their ass off, everyone is having a blast, laughing, spectating others, bantering about the game or giving each other advice. Meanwhile the pokemon community atleast in their Whatsapp group, is fairly toxic and super strict and wants to stay ontopic of pokemon all the time. Its just such a weird contrast to have, where we all really sweat with good decks, but we have such a blast doing so that we all genuinely just have fun playing with each other (albide i play rogue not meta) and i feel you will rarely get this sense of community in ANY hobby ever. Be it a sports club or whatever, you will always have people being salty or mad all the time or people just doing their own thing. Meanwhile at locals it feels just like a group of friends hosting a sweaty asf tournament every week but because they are all friends they have a blast regardless. And i love this part about yugioh
Very well said! Yeah it's strange how that works. Some of my most sweaty friends at the game are such genuinely fun people to play against. The one is always eager to see what new bs I brewed up for that week and his reactions to whatever gimmicky nonsense I'm playing are always mint lmao.
You see this is why u wait to do my massive fu k off combos until turn 3 Yeah I play master duel and I have definitely almost timed myself out building a board (zombie world) especially in that new double summon events who knew getting a free gozuki on field could extend so much
That's fair lol. I myself prefer to play a bunch of blind going second cards and praying to whatever cosmic being might be listening that they don't have outs for them. Either way it can still be a ton of fun lol
@@captainmeaty_png oh no this is a go first deck you just need to set up the graveyard Uni zombie can only do so much (especially if both Necroworld banshee and glow up bloom are only in the graveyard Still it can be made to work even without them Mezuki is great for discarding then get a changshi or a Balerdroch in there and you get to either continue your set up or get an omni negate and a non-targeting banish (something I wasn’t fully certain on until now) and if you only have 1 send get the alghoul in for destruction protection (and a free summon) Though I will say daidara does seem a bit unnecessary despite the fact it’s almost certainly supposed to be the deck boss (but then deck bosses aren’t really a thing now a days especially when you get amazing side options like dragonecro nethersoul dragon, shiranui shogunsaga (this one is also really good for getting another changshi on the field due to its banished effect), shiranui sunsaga and red-eyes zombie dragon lord as powerful bosses on top of your generic baronne (though this one isn’t as good as you’d think given the amount of monsters that restrict you to zombie synchros) or skeletal dragon felgrand who has the same attack boost effect)
Takahashi: Yugioh is a great game to show others what kind of things you like. Konami: BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE Meta players: Konami owns us and our life savings 🤓🤓🤓🤓🥵
It's sad but true, as long as people continue to buy the next big $2000+ deck they're gonna keep at it. I still have fun with the game though I don't think I could ever dislike it
agreed - its pricy : 1 reason i dont play TCG/OCG, only play MD - powercreep : not having set rotation is YGO big problem, instead making good cards/archetype total ban, they end up making better cards to "fix" the issue - fun : its fun to play if there's back and forth trying to outmatch each other, it wouldnt be fun if its 1 sided even if you're in win position (granted its rare, most of time you just get anger issue from opp' floodgates)
Absolutely. I forgot to mention that in the video but printing better cards to fix the game end up making it worse, something like Dangers or Kaijus. But when the game is actually played between two people it can be a blast
Agree with "The Good", and I think we have an easy solution to fix "the bad". Konami, please make an alternative format based on the card's power. Master Duel can make an entire new ban list for 2-weeks event (if you remember about Academy, Anthology, etc.). Are they afraid the matchmaking will become slower? Well, I play the less popular game (not card game) with 3 alternative formats, and all of them are still alive. I prefer to wait for the matchmaking if it can give me a more fun duel. This is still better than waiting for opponent same combo again and again, then can't play anything. . I see YGO is like a race. Konami provides us with different vehicles from bicycles, cars, motors, planes, jets, etc. Of course, it will be a huge problem if you force a bicycle to race against a card. Just give an appropriate place for them, and it will be better.
That is a very good analogy and definitely makes sense to me. My locals does GOAT and Edison format which are both extremely popular and I'd consider them fairly balanced.
I’m not sure what it is but anytime someone in the community suggests card text be formatted similar to mtg for simplicity and brevity a horde of sweaty nerds pop out the woodwork talkin bout “NoOo”
I really think the current way the game is structured has its charm, gives you the freedom to play a lot of stuff and add some really goofy fun tech cards from way out of left field but I can see why a rotation style format might be good for some people. Edison and GOAT format are really popular at my one locals specifically for that reason but it could be nostalgia swaying a lot of opinions
I've played the game since day 1 (while taking a hiatus during 5Ds era), and honestly, the game needs a reset. The game has gotten to a point to where you go first, or lose. Everyone's opening board ends on 26 negates with 4 hand traps. Oh, you only start with 6 cards? Too bad, so sad. Either ban everything and start over, or unban everything and watch the chaos. I don't like spending 10 minutes reading 2 paragraphs on each card my opponent has. I just play online casually now. I refuse to spend money on the game until something is done about the current state of the game
Agreed, I dunno how they would go about about a hard reset without just making a whole different format and starting over but the power level for the game is absolutely ridiculous. And while that can be fun oftentimes it ends with one person playing solitaire for 15 minutes. I still like making goofy decks that can squeeze a win out every once in a while against the meta but it is pretty rare lol
I used to play a ton of Standard back in the day and I loved it, however I've gradually fallen away from it not for any particular reason but I just don't play super often anymore. I think its a very well designed game and some of the lore and art are super cool
I was hiting the subscribe button while thinking "gonna sub this dude his videos are very good", when you talked about your videos being mediocre lmao Regarding the game, one of my most vivid memories back in 2nd grade was being punched and receiving a suspension from school because ive out played the other kid with change of hearts and stole his ultimate blue eyes dragon for my baby dragon, and fucking brutalized the battlefield. We were playing betting one our cards and i got one of his blue eyes white dragon, and no beat up felt so rewarding since than.
I appreciate the support! And wow that's quite the outplay the whole situation legitimately something from the anime 😂 I had these two people at locals one time get into a fight over rulings and they went out side and beat each other up and came back in and finished the game.
I hate that a lot of people on internet is making YGO look too complicate and gatekeep people while I meet the nicest person at local.

@@captainmeaty_png You know like everybody I like to criticize the game but It's nice to see some positivity about it once in a while.
"Some diarrea tier Pot Of Greed meme" ha lmfao
They're so bad and overplayed but they're so good lol
I'm not going against what you're saying about the price, because you are completely right about that, it's very dumb that Wanted is a $80+ (you use 3 wanted) card and that S:P is $108 card (you use 1-2 S:P)
I just wanted to say that putting the CR turbulence is kind of disingenuous, the lower rarity UR is $5-$6 per copy.
You had the fairest assessment of the game I've seen. Good work.
The fusion you mentioned from the GBC is basically the exact same way in FMR🤣🤣🤣
Classic 😂
Why not both lol
@@captainmeaty_png LOL yeah
Great job !
Hey thanks!
You see this is why u wait to do my massive fu k off combos until turn 3
Yeah I play master duel and I have definitely almost timed myself out building a board (zombie world) especially in that new double summon events who knew getting a free gozuki on field could extend so much
That's fair lol. I myself prefer to play a bunch of blind going second cards and praying to whatever cosmic being might be listening that they don't have outs for them. Either way it can still be a ton of fun lol
@@captainmeaty_png oh no this is a go first deck you just need to set up the graveyard
Uni zombie can only do so much (especially if both Necroworld banshee and glow up bloom are only in the graveyard
Still it can be made to work even without them Mezuki is great for discarding then get a changshi or a Balerdroch in there and you get to either continue your set up or get an omni negate and a non-targeting banish (something I wasn’t fully certain on until now) and if you only have 1 send get the alghoul in for destruction protection (and a free summon)
Though I will say daidara does seem a bit unnecessary despite the fact it’s almost certainly supposed to be the deck boss (but then deck bosses aren’t really a thing now a days especially when you get amazing side options like dragonecro nethersoul dragon, shiranui shogunsaga (this one is also really good for getting another changshi on the field due to its banished effect), shiranui sunsaga and red-eyes zombie dragon lord as powerful bosses on top of your generic baronne (though this one isn’t as good as you’d think given the amount of monsters that restrict you to zombie synchros) or skeletal dragon felgrand who has the same attack boost effect)
Yo just watched this on stream dude. Great video. we would like one on MTG if you ever feel inspired. Love ya bud. enjoy that $4 :)
Ayyy thank you so much as always my friend
Takahashi: Yugioh is a great game to show others what kind of things you like.
Konami: BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE BS ARCHETYPE
Meta players: Konami owns us and our life savings 🤓🤓🤓🤓🥵
It's sad but true, as long as people continue to buy the next big $2000+ deck they're gonna keep at it. I still have fun with the game though I don't think I could ever dislike it
@@captainmeaty_png Yea me too. Its my favourite card game even with these things going on.
agreed
- its pricy : 1 reason i dont play TCG/OCG, only play MD
- powercreep : not having set rotation is YGO big problem, instead making good cards/archetype total ban, they end up making better cards to "fix" the issue
- fun : its fun to play if there's back and forth trying to outmatch each other, it wouldnt be fun if its 1 sided even if you're in win position
(granted its rare, most of time you just get anger issue from opp' floodgates)
Absolutely. I forgot to mention that in the video but printing better cards to fix the game end up making it worse, something like Dangers or Kaijus. But when the game is actually played between two people it can be a blast
trains
TRAAAAAAAAAAINSSSSSSSSS
that's one of the gooderest archetypes
you ain't even incorrect tbh@@captainmeaty_png
silly jorden, greasy romans can't drive trains. lol
Rush Duel and Speed Duel: *exists*
In Master Duel rn I’m not running into a ton of multi negate big monster boards post banlist
release maxx c :))
KONAMI YOU COWARDS GIVE US THE FUNNY +8 INSECT
Magic the Gathering is the best card game ever.
I used to play a ton of Standard back in the day and I loved it, however I've gradually fallen away from it not for any particular reason but I just don't play super often anymore. I think its a very well designed game and some of the lore and art are super cool
Idk about that one chief 😂
I was hiting the subscribe button while thinking "gonna sub this dude his videos are very good", when you talked about your videos being mediocre lmao
Regarding the game, one of my most vivid memories back in 2nd grade was being punched and receiving a suspension from school because ive out played the other kid with change of hearts and stole his ultimate blue eyes dragon for my baby dragon, and fucking brutalized the battlefield.
