Nintendo’s corporate behavior declined considerably after the passing of Satoru Iwata. Iwata never laid off a single employee during Nintendo’s struggle years with the Wii U, and even took substantial pay cuts to keep the company afloat. Insanely rare for a corporate leader to do this.
THIS. I miss Iwata. Man was a great leader. And definitely, that book has a lot of wisdom. The quote "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer." It just shows his love for making games and putting the gamer first which I just find inspiring.
Although Iwata certainly made his fair share of mistakes, I will always respect that he took ownership of them. Don't think I've ever seen a CEO cut his own pay instead of laying off workers. It's unheard of. A shame that Iwata couldn't be around to see the success of the Switch, which was conceived while he was still in charge. He passed away during one of the darkest times of the company (financially anyway) with the Wii U. And I'll bet that had Iwata still been alive, the Switch would have been a much better, more ambitious product, instead of the bare bones hardware we've had for the last eight years which is missing a ton of features that the Wii U, 3DS, and even the original Wii had. Iwata had personality and ambition, and it was reflected in their products. Current Nintendo doesn't give a crap about anything other than maximizing profits and being as anti-consumer as possible. I doubt their current CEOs even play videogames.
I wonder how much of this is Yamauchi’s doing. Company cultures tend to get set and become highly resistant to change. Yamauchi was very hard nosed and led N into the gaming world, which is a good candidate for being when their current personality may have been born.
Both Sony and MS have actually tried to this in the past until the insane backlash made them change their mind (for now). I'm genuinely surprised Nintendo hasn't tried this yet - because they would probably go through it regardless of criticism. Nintendo doesn't give a shlt about being criticized, and they'll always have their legion of fanboys who will praise them for any decision they make, even if it is blatantly anti-consumer.
@@captainmeaty because you don’t know the context of why. For more information for learning why Nintendo behaves the way they do, refer to Moon Channel.
I personally think you can appreciate the work of something while disagreeing with how they act. Like yeah they're probably one of the worst in terms of companies out there but they've made some banger games for sure, I'm not sure if that makes up for all they've done. That's just my take though lol
fun fact a nintendo switch pro has the same price with any laptops of 16Giga of ram, 1 TB and processor of intel 7 or ryzen 7. Nintendo is locked regions while an laptops aren't.
'Switch 2' won't even be 1/4 as powerful as the Steamdeck. But don't worry, there will be some totally awesome new gimmick that will totally make games way more fun than ever before and it will totally make up for the Switch 2 being weak af.
@@N.i.E.M.O even cooler than that, Valve will just kind of borrow everything about the Switch 2 and release a totally awesome ready to pirate and mod machine right afterwards! I hope it's as popular as the Steamdeck and doesn't go the way of the PS Move or the Kinect
6:02 I’ll tell you why, it’s because of the toxic Pokemon fanbase thinks that the DS era was the golden age and treats post DS era like garbage. Hate to say it but these DS Pokémon games are extremely overrated and aren’t worth over $200. Thankfully I did get most of these games before the prices went up.
Alright so I do believe in part about that. I'm among the many that think the DS games were the golden age BUT I don't think they're worth over $200 for sure and I don't think everything after them was bad. Some were poorly executed for sure but they had a lot of great ideas too. I think the pricepoint comes from them just being not released aside from the console they came out on
Bruh, nobody says they are worth 200+ quid except the people who want to sell it rather than play it. I don't know what the insane retroprices have anything to do with Gens 4 and 5 being fan favorites.
People complaining about emulation xlosing and forgetting that it's current gen emulators. Emulators just meed to wait end of get to emulate things. But they're too greedy, launching patreons, fighting each other (like yuzu team vs ryujinx team). No blame for Nitendo
@@captainmeaty No,they don't The only old emulator to get cancelled by Nintendo was citra but citra was own by the team that created Yuzu,so it doesn't matter.
Emulators and reverse engineering are legal and are considered transformative. If Nintendo could, they'd kill all ports and emulators. The most recent cases made the mistake of "linking to" or "hosting" roms giving Nintendo wiggle room to throw their weight around.
This is probably the fault of what happened in 2015. 2015 was one of Nintendo's worst years in the company's history, because Nintendo's E3 2015 was AWFUL, Satoru Iwata died, Nintendo started giving copyright to gameplay videos in 2015 and PROBABLY the new Nintendo CEOs [Tatsumi Kimishima (2015-2018) and Shuntaro Furukawa (2018-currently)] were responsible for making it a company of anti-consumer acts. I'm brazilian.
@User-h1r1y 2015 still had some high quality Wii U games except for Mario party 10, amiibo festival and tennis access and the 3ds had some solid ones too
Consumers get the companies they deserve. Nintendo won't stop getting worse until people start to vote with their wallet. As long as enough people are paying good money for Nintendos slop, they won't stop with providing mediocre service while also trying to keep others from doing better.
Absolutely! There's tons of examples recently of games and whole studios shutting down because their games are just bad and people don't buy them. Its been shown that the best way to voice your opinion is with your wallet
Finally, someone is addressing these issues. The sad thing is, I think things are worse than we think. Nintendo used to be a pretty shady company back in the NES and SNES days, and the only reason they couldn't continue that way was because they made some terrible decisions under the impression that third parties would just "take it". Luckily for us, the PlayStation happened, and we all know how that went. Then Iwata stepped in and almost immediately the company had a more "humble" vibe to it, even though they'd still sue some rom website every now and then. But now? Not only are they perfectly content in their Switch shaped throne, letting some of their franchises grow stagnant, but they've become a lot more hostile than they ever were back when Iwata was in charge, both to pirates, and their customers. What's that? You want to buy Super Mario Bros.? Silly you! Our games are TOO GOOD to be sold to you, no, instead, pay a f-king membership peasant!
The main reason why they are going after Palworld is because it was not exactly done by an indie dev, but rather Sony collaborating with an indie dev. The project was done in bad faith. Yes, Nintendo retaliating against their biggest competitor is quite greedy and I’d much prefer for Pokémon to remain a competitor than stifling competition.
Nintendo is extremely stubborn and somehow that is also why we still have them. A good friend of mine wants them to do like Sega and just become a 3rd party dev. But look at Sega now. They’re a ghost of their former self.
Sega didn't even get most of the money they have right now from software, they got most of their money from Pachinko machines. Hell, until recently they weren't that focused on software but now that they are focusing more on that, they have become much more aggressive about maintaining their IP, just like Nintendo is. Part of IP being your most valuable asset is that you have to be aggressive when it comes to protecting it, because if you aren't then you usually get crushed by any bigger company.
@zerobyte802 considering that Sega made over a Billion dollars in earnings with their Pachinko machines alone during 2017, which constituted over half of their entire earnings that fiscal year... no, I don't think I am confusing them for Konami.
This sounds like a kid getting mad at his parents because Billy's parents let him drink and smoke inside their house, and his parents aren't cool like that.
So like, to an extent they have the legal grounds to do what they're doing in most cases BUT they're so aggressive about it. And in some cases they're just bullying others which I just think is kinda lame
Honestly I've sworn off giving them a dime until they've shown some proper change. The last nail the coffin for me was trying out Animal Crossing New Horizons and realizing they just left out most previous content
Honestly that's absolutely fair! The dollar is the best way to voice your opinion. Just look at all the studios recently who have had big flops with their games, the whole studio got shut down. Maybe if nobody buys their stuff they'll learn to listen to their community more
Something that most people forgot was when Nintendo released Mario 35 on the switch they stole the idea from the guy who made the fan game Mario Royale a multiplayer classic Mario game. They shut down the fan game stole the idea and made their own. you can't even play Mario 35 anymore so they did it for no reason.
I did some digging for the video, and apparently Mario Royale is back up. But yeah I think I mentioned in the video they took it down initially then made Mario 35 which was only up a year I believe
The OpenPandora, a handheld that connects to the TV, predates the Switch by years. The Steam Deck has more in common with the Pandora than with the Switch.
You gotta understand the cultural nuances. Japanese corporate culture emphasizes group harmony (“wa”), discouraging actions that disrupt cohesion. The “senpai-kohai” system creates a strict hierarchy based on seniority. “Kaizen” promotes continuous improvement but can lead to micromanagement. The concept of “shikata ga nai” accepts rigid norms, while “tatemae” (public face) and “honne” (true feelings) focus on maintaining an idealized image. Together, these cultural values foster a controlled and traditionalist business environment, where protecting the brand and creator’s vision often outweighs adapting to external or consumer-driven trends. Which is why we get stories of the Super Plumber Man company acting out against their fans.
It's a double edged sword. It both maintains the quality and protects from the rot we see infecting Western games. It also leads to creative stagnation and anti-consumer practices.
I find it fascinating to look at things from different angles like this. That makes a lot more sense it seems to bleed into their policies and game development. Very interesting thanks for the comment!
Because of the current state of AAA games and Nintendo's business practices, I've become of all things, an Atari fanboy in 2024. Yeah, yeah '83 crash, E.T. terrible, Jaguar, blah blah, shut up and let me talk. Atari isn't the big, powerful company they were in the early 80s, but I believe those failures have kept the current owners of that company humble, and most importantly, thankful for the fans who support them. Nintendo has had so much success that it has gone to their head, and they take their customers for granted as a result. They value money and control more than their supporters. Not only that, but because of the way Nintendo is, they've become this shadowy arbiter of gaming history, destroying anything that could pose a threat to their prevalence, thus their war on ROM sites and fan projects. They decide what games are allowed to be acknowledged and played. Meanwhile, Atari is gradually acquiring old game IPs from companies who won't do anything with them and partnering with indie developers to do new, creative things with them to keep those games alive. Most people like to pretend that because of the 1983 game crash and the success of the NES bringing games back, that those early contributions to gaming history just don't count. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone nowadays who even knows that video games existed before Nintendo. Atari and indie developers are fighting this ultimately destructive perception. And don't just say it's sad old people who refuse to let go of their obsolete crappy games and acknowledge that things are just better now, and Nintendo made it so bad games don't get on their hardware. Atari was well past its prime when I was even born in the 90s, and Nintendo's "Seal of Quality" barely did anything. Even now. Have you seen the Switch eShop? You have to swim through an ocean of mobile games and hentai just to find anything that's actually good. If playing old Atari 2600 and arcade style games in the current year makes me some niche crazy person, then so be it. I'm at least supporting a company who values their history, their players and the small creators who show their love for games with every program they write.
First of all thank you for the wonderful comment this was really interesting and engaging and it has a lot of really neat bits of information. Secondly that's awesome I think it's a really under explored system and library and you make a lot of good points about Atari as a company and really gaming as a whole in the current year. I tend to replay the same games from decades ago and more often indie games when I'm not interested in current gen stuff and I find myself doing that a lot.
13:49 that has not been my experience with Nintendo switch online. When I had high-speed internet it worked no problem. There were sometimes when my opponent lagged and it messed things up but no it worked fine. With the free internet that I'm loaning from the library right now I do believe it would run pretty poorly if I play Smash online, but I just haven't really done that. And it's expected because it's a slower internet that's a free one and not the expensive Comcast / Xfinity 1 gigabyte internet I used to have made sure I never had any problems with Nintendo internet. Those who are complaining about the internet from switch, is it possible that they just are paying for super cheap slow internet instead?
I believe that's part of it. I read that the switch online connects peer to peer essentially so if one person has a slow connection it can lag both parties. I'd have to dig a little more into the technical aspects of it
If all you play are first party Nintendo games on Nintendo hardware and never play online, then yeah, Nintendo is great. I mean, the online service for the Switch is so awful I wouldn't be surprised if they removed online play from Switch 2 completely. People will still be there to praise them for it.
@@N.i.E.M.O I would be surprised. Because they tested online functionality last month. Remember leaks about that online game sandbox with monkeys? It was pretty good and not that laggy. They testing servers for sure
Yeah to this day am still sto fuckin pissed that they ceased and deceased the creators of Pokemon uranium that game had more love story and great pokemon designs then what the pokemon company has produced in the last 4 years combined
I unfortunately didn't get to play it at the time but I've gotten to play a few others that had a lot of work put into them and I can say from my experience they were fun and clearly had some thought put into them
When Nintendo shut fan game people will say sega does what nintendon't and it true Nintendo was always strict with thier frenchise with fan game I think the worst time is the when there was the content creator program Wich creator had to follow strict guidelines and there wasn't alot of game showcase before because of that program but now it no longer here but still it show how Nintendo give itself bad reputation towards it community
You know, I like to think of myself as a Prince Zuko kinda character. Either way that show was absolute cinema. Thank you for the wonderful comment as always my friend 🖤
I knew Nintendo in the internet age was going to be a bad thing when they added the feature to the Wii U to upload game clips to UA-cam, then proceeded to copyright claim everything and stuck ads on 3 minute videos.
14:17 I'm in agreement with you on how awful this is. I can't believe that they charge you more than double nearly triple how much you are paying for the expansion pass when the expansion pass it adds some cool new stuff but the new stuff isn't as much stuff that's originally added on to the original online service. I expected the expansion pass the cost more but I thought it should have been like $30 per month so just $10 more than the original. I think that would have been reasonable because you're still getting all the stuff you would get that is already a pretty good amount of stuff on the $20 service and they're only giving you a few extra things on the expansion pass. It sucks because I know I just kind of have to deal with it and pay the $50 per year which ultimately isn't a whole lot of money but it's just a lot higher than they should be charging. I mean I'm not going to be able to play the classic Mario party with my wife or play my favorite N64 games I grew up with besides that one like perfect Dark for example and I find it even more odd that perfect and some others are on a separate N64 app for m rated games instead of just having them on the regular N64 app
Exactly! I mean its not terrible in the grand scheme of things but its not exactly worth it either. If they added just a little more to it or reduced the price a couple bucks it wouldn't be too bad of a deal
3:33 Ain't it just sad that the dude can't even say their name out of fear he might get sued. I compare Nintendo to a drunk uncle nowadays, he was a great guy when he came to visit when you were younger but as you got older you realized he was just sober when at family gatherings and will harass and criticize you for even thinking about making anything near comparable to what he does for a job.
I really like your calm and professional approach to all of this. A lot of people who upload videos off of this are always yelling and ranting and I mean I get their frustration but it's just a lot easier to hear somebody like you just explain it in a common professional manner and just talk about it in a more nuanced way. You did really fantastic with this video and I'm glad this showed up in my recommendations.
Thank you so much! I really try to go for that kind of approach so I'm glad you noticed and appreciated it. Comments like these really make it worth it to make these kinds of videos. Thanks for the support!
6:16 had trouble pushing 60fps in oot? 17 fps i so far from 60, its not even supposed to be a target, with that big a difference. the target is more like 30 fps with an average od 23 fps .
Yeah I said 30 didn't I? I believe that was the target FPS just due to how hard it worked the N64 trying to run the game lol oftentimes it was actually less. Although somehow my eyes didn't notice it when i was like 8 playing the game
@captainmeaty_png i didnt notice it back in the day too. But recently i booted thee game up and and... Now i cant play games that run below 20 fps since i am so used to my pc games running at 60.
And they’re still KILLING Xbox and PlayStation…that’s our state of “modern gaming” today. I’m back to just playing my PS2, while the three (Switch, PS5, Xbox-X) “next gen” consoles I own are now merely props that collect dust😂
I think one factor behind this is gerontocracy i.e. rule by geezers. The Big N became soo out of touch that, for one thing, instead of streaming their soundtracks in the usual venues, they decided to paywall them through their online service presumably out of paranoia towards piracy.
It really is funny that people whine so much about FPS in the modern day when what people consider to be the best game ever made(OoT) struggles to run at more than 5 FPS. It's also funny how anti-emulation, modding and piracy in general they are and the most common console to get soft-modded is the Wii
Exactly! It's still one of the best games ever made. I can understand low frames are more apparent nowadays and can sometimes be an issue when playing but I don't think its as bad as everyone says. I used to play Fallout New Vegas on a potato laptop and I still had loads of fun. Also true, that AND the 3DS
That is one of the reasons OOT 3D is a great improvement. The framerate only noticably lowers like one or two times and it is so fittingly timed that people are still unsure if it is a flaw or intentional. Unlike the original that starts chugging when you look at it the wrong way.
The shut down of Brawl's mod Project M, has started the cycle of Anger I have against the company, that only got worse and worse the more I see them Ceasing and Desisting everything they watch...
Its a tragedy putting an end to all these neat and wonderful and well thought out fan projects. Sega takes the route of hiring the developers of fan projects and I think Nintendo could learn a lot from that
5:58 Wait, are people actually buying those overpriced games? I thought it was dubious marketing purposefully making it look like it to maintain it's "high-value".
@nekonomicon2983 Amazon is just the most popular grey market to buy from but I was able to find some Nintendo games and accessories on the Walmart site, just don't buy used hardware from Walmart's grey market.
I will forever love Nintendo, but I don't want to be noticed or be in any sort of connection with them, unless it is the sort of connection where I somehow get to have a company they are contracting. They love their fans until the fans are not perfectly in line. There is a reason the Nintendo ninja joke exists, they are utterly ruthless when you don't play by their rules(And that did infact bleed into their gamedesign a bit, some games only want you to play as intended). If they cared enough about nobodies, they would grill my butt for using their assets in modding/romhacking their games.
Thank you so much! The background footage was kind of a throwback to a previous video I did if that's what you mean. But either way I appreciate the feedback I'm always looking for ways to improve
smash community gets 2 groomers exposed a week they deserve nothing but contempt. gary bowser was ironically using heavy handed protection back on 3ds which bricked 3ds thats why. and the etika joycon was a charity scam. the garys mod thing was a troll pretending to be nintendo. yuzu and ryujinks were pirating games before release and profiting off patreon. palworld ? No comment.
The thing is, they had nothing legally in the hand against Ryujinx, they have no dirt on them. Infact, nobody ever bothered taking down their Patreon when Nintendo took down their website to scatter the community(Which did not work very well btw, lol).
@@AsherTheModder That's what I'm saying DO MORE RESEARCH It's because stuff like this that people belive in everything. I could just make a channel and say "Nintendo bad" and show something from 2014 and have 100 people in the comment saying I'm right when I'm not. And worse of all is to see people using Iwata's name for content or to make their lies a truth.
Pretty much yeah! I had a segment that I cut for time purposes about how they sued Blockbuster (I think) over printing manuals for the games they rented out.
Ironically, they were kinda sh*t at the beginning of their gaming journey(If you wanted your game on the NES, you had to either make it exclusive or get your hand on cardridges to print them unlicensed, no third option given) and got better over time.
I just wished they came back to being that company that encourage innovation and change for their games and hardware and not be responsible for having a console that’s the most fragile and frustrating thing to own ( I’m looking at you switch)
You could drop a tv on the 64 and it would probably still work lol. But yeah I think they've become lazy lately when it comes to pushing the industry like they've been known to do which is sad
Nintendo should keep doing what there doing they have the right to protect there ips. If nintendo can't control how there ips and likeness are used then they really don't own there company
This video needs more research. You talked about the Joycon boyz but didn't talked about the scam that happened there,Gary Bowser wasn't doing the piracy,he was the salesman for the piracy mafia he worked for,his so called "friends" just dumped him so he could take the blame for it while they run away with the money. For a lot of people, stop Iwata's name for content, everything you people say Nintendo did wrong was in his era and he wanted just as the new president wants. Talking about Emulation,Nintendo only goes after emulators for the console that they still sell, like the Switch, which is more piracy than emulation, since there's no game preservation for a game that you can buy legally in most stores, and if you think Nintendo is the only one, wait for Sony to go after the people doing piracy of the PlayStation 4 and 5,which is happening right now. If you reading this, call me all you want, but don't say this is a lie cause it ain't.
There's a ton of their series like that. I'd love a steam port of their classics or even their new games. Imagine Tears of the Kingdom with full native PC support that would be really pretty and actually run good lol
It’s never morally correct to steal. With the amount of layoffs in the gaming industry now, it’s crazy to say you love games when you’re stealing money from the pockets of developers. There’s plenty of valid reasons to criticise Nintendo, but you’re kidding yourselves if you think stealing games from any company is ethical.
Dude, the Nintendo switch sold more than the PS2 in the US. Low spec means nothing if the public doesn't really care about specs. If you don't have good exclusives then what a better will do?Make you play an old game that you already did everything but with another graphic and fps.
Pokémon, Fire Emblem and Zelda copied Dragon Quest and Mana series Do you want to know why Square Enix doesn't sue Nintendo? Square Enix isn't about stifling Creativity They make innovative, niche titles and popular games. -Mana series -Dragon Quest -Deus Ex (I don't play this) To more popular games like -Nier Automata -Tomb Raider -Final Fantasy (I also don't play dis) Pokémon and Zelda just popularized the genre of creature collecting and action Roleplaying Oddly Pokémon company and Nintendo with the Zelda patents is the most trigger happy in lawsuits despite them not owning shit since the idea of having creatures in balls, and companions in video games are not their own, yet the courts in Japan are r*tarded and think Nintendo is the second coming of Christ. Now Mario is its own series but Nintendo seems less interested in defending the only property they truly own which is the Metroidvania/2D mario Platformer and more interested in shit they don't actually own like the Roleplaying and action mechanics. Zelda twilight princess copied Demon Souls and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom copied Elden Ring and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. Nintendo lacks creativity outside of Mario and cool Hardware gimmicks like the Wii U, Wii, and 3DS.
These are all good points actually. And yeah I think that's the best way to go about it. Companies that allow for creativity actually see more success in the long run so all they're really doing is shooting themselves in the foot. Its just a shame they're probably gonna keep trying to bully others over ideas they loosely "own"
@captainmeaty_png Yeah, I am among many people who actually dont hate Nintendo. I criticize them because they need to improve. Are there some people out there who want to see gaming fail. Sure, but it's the enablers (just look at the factions of fanboys) causing that stagnation to happen. I would love to see someone playing Nintendo games on PC (legally, of course), a futuristic handheld that resembles a better or more powerful switch. Who knows what cool stuff will come after the somewhat boring AI craze that's going on right now.
Iwata is the only CEO of a gaming company who has ever cared, TRULY cared, about the fans as gamers and not just consumers. I'm not saying that era was perfect. But you look at the products, the exclusivity, the commitment to quality, the social buzz, the FUN we were having, and it's night and day. I'm so sad for kids who think this is "Nintendo." It's not. It's a shadow.
Absolutely it's truly a shame he's gone so soon. I believe I read somewhere that when sales were down he once cut his pay so that they didn't have to layoff employees. He really was just a good human as far as I read and the way he actually cared about the games and the gamers was inspiring
I certainly hope we see a return to the golden age. Not to say their games have been bad by any means but it's not masterpiece after masterpiece like before.

This is not a Nintendo thing. This is a Japan thing. There is a reason why the country's economy is tanking. Most Japanese support Nintendo anyway and Japanese companies are more worried about the domestic market.
That's fascinating actually, looking at it from that perspective is really interesting. Is that the same for all Japanese studios or are some more concerned with international sales?
@@captainmeaty Not sure about other studios, but other industries for sure. Look at the manga/anime industry. They are consistently suing fan translators. Or even car companies. There are lot of cars that aren't seen outside Japan.
This is a reason why layoffs to certain ceo's, board members, employees, and layers are important. So that people that're become determinants and do shit like the 3 bad things Nintendo has done that you've mentioned would be punished, black listed, kicked out so they can be replaced with someone with better understanding.
In fairness Nintendo isn't "out of touch", they know what their doing with the takedowns and protectiveness over their IP. Their brand recognition is PG and they don't want to chance tarnishing that name since that's what moves units. It's their prerogative, it's their right to defend it legally however they choose.
This is the cringiest list to hate on. These "problems" only cause issues for youtubers, streamers, bootleggers, etc. (Not gamers). Basically, anyone who can profit from nintendo is targeted by corporate lawyers. Y'all sound so entitled. Nintendo doesn't belong to you. It's not your property. Stop trying to make money off of Nintendo. I don't understand the backlash.
RIP Iwata.
There is a book called Iwata Asks that is some powerful stuff. We would live in a better world if every CEO followed his influence.
THIS. I miss Iwata. Man was a great leader. And definitely, that book has a lot of wisdom.
The quote "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer."
It just shows his love for making games and putting the gamer first which I just find inspiring.
I swear I thought it was just me who thought that.
Bro stop using Iwata's name to make your dead point.

Like yeah they're probably one of the worst in terms of companies out there but they've made some banger games for sure, I'm not sure if that makes up for all they've done. That's just my take though lol
Oh god, yes, the Nintendo fanboys really are terrible. Blindly defending a company while not being paid to do so is the saddest thing ever.

fun fact a nintendo switch pro has the same price with any laptops of 16Giga of ram,
1 TB and processor of intel 7 or ryzen 7.
Nintendo is locked regions while an laptops aren't.
That's wild. Those are decent specs for a budget laptop. I suppose we're paying for the novelty of the switch being a handheld and a console
@@captainmeaty agreed!
A wise man once said "Companies are NOT your friends"
Some seemingly try to put the interests of the consumer first but oftentimes they're all just numbers to them
6:02 I’ll tell you why, it’s because of the toxic Pokemon fanbase thinks that the DS era was the golden age and treats post DS era like garbage.
Very good points! They do still get upset over older emulators too I believe but I think current gen ones get a lot more heat
@@captainmeaty
No,they don't
The only old emulator to get cancelled by Nintendo was citra but citra was own by the team that created Yuzu,so it doesn't matter.
Emulators and reverse engineering are legal and are considered transformative. If Nintendo could, they'd kill all ports and emulators. The most recent cases made the mistake of "linking to" or "hosting" roms giving Nintendo wiggle room to throw their weight around.
Wasn't dolphin emulator around when the GameCube and Wii were still selling or smth
@Man-q5r it was very bad many many years. Almost like ps2 emus
I think there's gotta be a correlation there for sure
2:34 is that Wario driving the Trotters Independent Traders van from Only Fools and Horses? 😂
Perhaps lmao
Not to mention their previously untapped tactic of Patent Trolling.
That really sucks!
Also, speaking about consumer hostility, remember Joycon Drift?
All good points. Seems like they've made it to the top and only look down on everyone now based on their actions.
Palworld looks just like pokemon bro. Nobody would have given it a second thought if it wasnt for that reason
Very true. It plays more like Ark so I don't think there's a ton aside from the aesthetics and the Pals that would get them in trouble
All new art is based on art that came before. No idea is original.
At this point, jailbreaking your switch is the morally correct thing to do now (not that I'd condone such heretical behavior, obviously)
Always morally correct. (my lawyer has advised me to say that this is a joke)
Nintendo is extremely stubborn and somehow that is also why we still have them. A good friend of mine wants them to do like Sega and just become a 3rd party dev.
But look at Sega now. They’re a ghost of their former self.
They are. They're dedicated to doing their own thing for better or worse which I can respect.
@ Sure you’re not getting them confused with Konami? Konami definitely quit making games in favor of Pachinko machines.
@zerobyte802 considering that Sega made over a Billion dollars in earnings with their Pachinko machines alone during 2017, which constituted over half of their entire earnings that fiscal year... no, I don't think I am confusing them for Konami.
@ never heard that about Sega. Interesting
That's actually neat I didn't hear of that one!
You'll also notice that innovation and creativity are driven by the developers and newcomers, often not the parent company itself.
I find it fascinating to look at things from different angles like this. That makes a lot more sense it seems to bleed into their policies and game development. Very interesting thanks for the comment!
It's a crime this video has only 78 views after 5 hours.
I really appreciate the kind words! Maybe the magical UA-cam algorithm will throw me a bone eventually lol
I'd have to dig a little more into the technical aspects of it
I'm not playing online games, I don't care about mods and romhacks/fan games. To me as normie consumer Nintendo is one of the best company.
They make great games no doubt about it. If you only do single player games they're absolutely one of the best

10:04 well now you have a service available for Nintendo soundtracks
Took em long enough but I guess beggars can't be choosers as they say
I knew Nintendo in the internet age was going to be a bad thing when they added the feature to the Wii U to upload game clips to UA-cam, then proceeded to copyright claim everything and stuck ads on 3 minute videos.
That's actually wild I never heard about that but it's definitely in character lol
@@captainmeaty It came out of nowhere and caught the few Wii U fans they had off guard. It's like why even include this upload feature?
Oh yeah, you inspire others but they're afraid to talk about you. And that's actually a great description lol.
Absolutely. They seem to be very stuck in their ways which makes for very rigid thinking on their part
Old Japanese dudes who don't even play videogames and don't even know what other companies in the business are even doing.
Sega takes the route of hiring the developers of fan projects and I think Nintendo could learn a lot from that
5:58
Wait, are people actually buying those overpriced games? I thought it was dubious marketing purposefully making it look like it to maintain it's "high-value".
@nekonomicon2983 Amazon is just the most popular grey market to buy from but I was able to find some Nintendo games and accessories on the Walmart site, just don't buy used hardware from Walmart's grey market.
I believe its mostly the hardcore collectors but yeah a ton of people will pay good money for older physical games
11:31 Manray: THAT'S IT,I'M BUYING A STEAMDECK!!!
They're really neat but I don't think they're $300+ worth of neat lol.
Exactly they make games to be enjoyed in just such a way they intend anything otherwise and they get upset.
Nice video! Although I have to say that you should try to match more of the videos to stuff you're saying to illustrate better!
Thank you so much! The background footage was kind of a throwback to a previous video I did if that's what you mean. But either way I appreciate the feedback I'm always looking for ways to improve

company has been shit since the beginning
To a degree yeah that's fair but I think they'd be seen in a much better light if they wouldn't be so opposed to fan projects and mods and such.
I always prefered Sega. Sonic was way cooler than Mario and Mortal Kombat 1 was sensored on Nintendo. Sega does what Nintendon't.

It's always morally correct to pirate Nintendo games
Amen to that one
It’s never morally correct to steal. With the amount of layoffs in the gaming industry now, it’s crazy to say you love games when you’re stealing money from the pockets of developers. There’s plenty of valid reasons to criticise Nintendo, but you’re kidding yourselves if you think stealing games from any company is ethical.

Pokémon and Zelda just popularized the genre of creature collecting and action Roleplaying
Oddly Pokémon company and Nintendo with the Zelda patents is the most trigger happy in lawsuits despite them not owning shit since the idea of having creatures in balls, and companions in video games are not their own, yet the courts in Japan are r*tarded and think Nintendo is the second coming of Christ.
Nintendo may well be down somewhat from its historical high but at least its climbing back up, its doing FAR BETTER than Sony or Microsoft or others.
That's not a very high bar to clear, so it means nothing.

I hate Nintendo and plan to make a video on how bad they are, but I would point out that they actually finally have resolved the soundtrack issue by offering their own alternative. It’s not great but it’s something at least.
That's really neat! I can't believe I missed that in my research thank you for that. Good luck on your video!
my boy is back great vid as always mate. give thanks and praise to majora's mask for it is the best zelda game.
Thank you so much my friend. And of course! Its the best game of the series
lol. this.
Hey thanks I think lol
Great video.
For more supporting evidence, viewers might want to check out Upper Echelon's video titled 'The Nintendo Files'.
Sinister stuff.
Thank you so much! Heck yeah thank you for the suggestion I'll have to check that out
@@captainmeaty Only found your channel just now, so maybe the algorithm *is* giving you a break?
Hope you find something useful in his video, and I will certainly be back to check out your videos in the future - please keep up the good work!
Only time I can remember that it WASN'T like that was when Iwata was in charge. He actually took a pay cut in order to not layoff employees
Holy entitlement. You sound entitled af.
How so? I don't think having an opinion on stuff makes someone entitled
Lol nintendo winning kid its a tough world nut up 😂
I don't think they've had a dip in quality really. they've almost consistently been able to make good games they're just kinda scummy as a company
Keep crying,
