Yes u can open the cap but it’s not necessary and yes pump the brake peddle once ur completed the job no need power assist u will feel the peddle soft and sink in and after 1-2-3 or 4 pumps it will get hard and ur all set
@@RBTheMechanic yep and i used it the one time a year i will use it. you get the tool based on the time rated you will use it. i just did them today all 4. rear is a bitch i recommend trying the one pin disc so you can slip it out bk my rear calipers were not slotted top to bottom.

It says no special tools but you clearly use a special tool to compress the pistons.
I was able to do this after watching the video though. The tool was a cheep harbor freight version cost me $48 but its cheaper than paying a shop.
You can do it with a piece of wood also.
