I used to work there from 1975 driving a pair of horses from first the shop in the old car park which was down near the field which the suggy boats are on to Beamish Hall and later i gave rides on the charabanc " happy days" from the farm tram stopto the town. Beamish is such a lovely place and is still very much a part of my heart. I still visit Beamish every year .
Dave, we were there in July 2022 and it was a gloriously hot day, too hot to be honest because we got sunburnt sitting atop those trams and walking between destinations. A day doesn't do it justice really but you've captured so much of the place on your short film. Well done and thanks for posting!
Thanks Thomas. We didnt stop looking about for more than a roll and sausage and thought we had seen everything. Got back to the car and realised we had missed the farm, the tram sheds and a few other places. We will return for another visit.
Just spotted this while looking at your Glasgow films. I plan on stopping off at Beamish on my way back from Scarborough in June and this has really given me a feel for the place. Thank you 👍
It is well worth a visit but be prepared to miss bits if you only have 1 day. The good thing is your ticket lasts a year so we plan to go back and see it again this year.
It was amazing. I tried to go a few years ago then covid hit and when I had the chance this year I jumped at it. Got great weather, loads happening and loved the whole place.
Very interesting to see this kind of streets, cars, vehicules in their environment and in colors ! We're so used to see those in B&W ! Seing those in colors make them...closer and less from "prehistoric" times (after all, it's "only" a century or so)
What i dont show in the video is all the dedicated volunteers who bring the town to life. There were bakers in the bakery making bread, dentists in the dentist and a maid in a house cooking a Sunday roast as well as policemen, farmers and shop keepers. It was brilliant.
Hi Dave, My wife and I also love this place and try to vist annually. Summerlee out at Coatbridge is also very good but not on the same scale as Beamish.
I have the DORLING KINDERSLEY DK EYEWITNESS GUIDES Book of TRAIN. Discover the story of railways - from the days of steam to the high - speed, sophisticated trains of today. In association with THE NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM.
