What a treat this was! My family came from the north east of England. My granda was a coal miner. I grew up in the area in the 1960's but have lived in Germany since 1988. I was so suprised when you said your dad worked for Deutsche Bahn!😊 Our family visited Beamish back in 2005 when our children were 5 and 10 years old. It was so great to show them everything and buy them the sweets and tunnocks teacakes , that I had loved as a child Visiting the fairground with them was magic! Imagine, taking your children back to your own childhood! I'm so glad I came across this video We,ve just been blessed with our first grandchild. I hope we can take him back to see his family roots in a few years time Vielen Dank und Schöne Grüße aus Landshut ,Bayern!
Thank you for taking us along on this fascinating trip. I love history. It was kind of weird that something from the 50’s was included. That’s when I went to high school. Oh dear that made me feel old. Well I guess some would call me old. I turn 85 on my last birthday. I really enjoy all your shows. Keep up the good work.👏👏👏👏👏👍
What a wonderful day. I cannot thank you both enough for sharing your day with us. I loved it. If you wish to experience Steam railway you will have to come back to the North East coast as explore Goathland. Where Heartbeat was filmed. Your father would love the steam engines. You can experience rides and at one time you could dine on the railway. Take care in this extreme wet and windy weather.
Thanks so much! Take care too! We rode some steam engines only half a year ago here in our area which was fun. When my Dad comes again, we should do it again. Take care too.
I must say, Kirsten was like a little girl in a candy shop with excitement 😊 The academy award for filming as always goes to Joerg 🎉 A truly amazing place! It's so big and everything is so well done! Ah, ha! I thought I spotted your Father ❤ I bet he had a good time, it's good of him to explore! Xx
Marian, your comment made me wonder about Kirsten's father. I'm guessing that he was probably a young person in the 1950s. How strange it must be to see his youth as part of a museum, as part of history, regardless of where he grew up.
That was so fun. I live in a town in central Illinois, USA and my family on both sides were railroaders. My husbands family came here from Germany. Benz name. Thank you. Thoroughly enjoy you and your adventures.
An elderly uncle of mine visited Beamish a few years ago and was amazed when he went inside one of the miners cottages only to find it was his grandmas house! He spoke to the curators and he was right😊 He said it was exactly how he had remembered it.
Hello, you sure had a very interesting day, I enjoy going to museum like this too here in the USA! It is so special spending time with your dad , I miss my dad very much !! So treasurer those moments ! Hugs from Paula
Paula hello from the UK. These two are so so lucky living their life like this. I miss my dad so so much. Still the same longing for him even after 13 yrs. God bless love to u x
@@juliaclapton1141 Hi Julia , my dad passes away in 1999 and my mom in 2007 , I understand your heart dearly. Parents are always thankful for wonderful children... I say what a blessing it is to have wonderful parents. Blessings to you and a joyful Easter .. Paula
My grandparents in Newport South Wales UK did not have a bathroom. It was an outside flush toilet attached to the house. They bathed in the kitchen in an aluminum bathtub that doubled as the base for the kitchen island counter. And that was 1969 in a terraced house on Barthopp Street.
I loved that video. I live about 12 miles from Beamish and lived in a colliery house very similar to the house you showed. My great grandfather, grandfather and father all worked at the local colliery and all three generations lived in the same two up two down colliery house! I think 9 people in total and my father couldn’t remember where everyone used to sleep but he said he had a wonderful childhood. The cinema from a village near us has just been dismantled and moved to Beamish to be rebuilt in their 1950s village, my father used to go there every week when he was young. It’s incredible to think those are all real buildings that have been moved and rebuilt. I won’t bore you any longer with my family history! Thanks for sharing a wonderful video. I must visit again very soon.
Thank you Sylvia. I for one think that your comment was very interesting and informative and educating. I wonder what your great grandfather would think of it all. They worked hard sure did but was happier times
Oh no, not boring at all - on the contrary! Can you imagine 9 people? That's incredible and it makes me so happy to read that you father had a wonderful childhood and such lovely memories. I agree, it's so incredible that they moved the buildings and rebuilt them. Wishing you a lovely rest of the week and weekend.
I know my comment is late but it was wonderful to see Beamish and I hope to see it myself one day. An awful lot of work has gone into the planning and setting up of those towns from different times. I adore seeing living history. Here in Australia we have a few living museums. The closest to me is in Ballarat, it’s called Sovereign Hill and was built around an old gold mine and is very extensive in size. Sovereign Hill shows how the early settlers lived from the very early days of settlement in the 1800s, through the gold rush days to the early town development of Ballarat. I love history. 🇦🇺🦘🦘🇦🇺
What? No bumper car race? I cannot believe Joerg passed up the opportunity! Lol...looks like a fun day! Still waiting to try those delicious English fish and chips!
I think the shop is in the first Downton movie not the Christmas special. Mrs Patmore, Daisy and Moseley were getting groceries for the King's visit. What an amazing museum! Thanks for filming it.
Thanks so much for watching! I think they also filmed there for the Christmas special, says so on the Beamish website too but it's beautiful nonetheless.
GOOD MORNING YOU TWO - been a history person for many years, and enjoy these type of villages....they offer so much. This is your best of show for the season...just grand. Thank you for your humor and good taste in all things wonderful..❤
Well that was a treat. What a magical place. One house showed a bathroom when in fact they did not have bathrooms. The toilet would be outside. Bowls under the bed for nighttime. And a large tub in the kitchen in front of the fire for baths. Often the tin bath would be the base for the kitchen table. Daily body washing in the kitchen sink and once a week bath. Especially in winter when it was so cold. This practice went on until well after the war. It's so interesting to see how people lived. Thank you both for showing us Beamish! Love from Toronto 🇨🇦😊💜
So glad you enjoyed it! I know, they didn't have bathrooms until the late 1800s but from the 1900s also smaller houses started to have upstairs bathrooms and toilets like the one shown. Loved the wallpaper in the houses so much.
First off, I think it's so nice your dad is visiting and sharing in the fun, I know you're having fun because I seen Joerg dance 🥰 I loved this one, I was born in '58, I think that was 20 yrs late, I love everything "vintage/antique". The amusement park was so pretty, I'd be happy to take a ride on the carousel, on a horse of course. And look at you guys, half way to 200K, and today 18,168, views and when I started watching it was 17,000+. I am so happy you for you two, I've so enjoyed watching all these yrs. By the way, the views just keep turning 😊
You are so kind Wende, thanks so much! It was such an amazing visit. Sadly the video is underperforming quite tremendously so far I'm afraid (the Cornishware does too) but sometimes it's so extremely hard to know beforehand what will perform. A million thanks for your support.

Hi Kirsten and Joerg what a wonderful place, and Downton Abbey was my favorite as well. Fascinating to see all the antiques. Thank you so much for showing us the trams. Such a shame your dad missed a ride. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts re my brother. You both are very special people. Thank you for this fabulous video. ❤❤💙💙
Kirsten and Joerg anywhere you travel to is a warm and cozy adventure and every new video makes my day. Beamish is no exception. Quick word, you make excellent use of Epidemic Sound for your music. Your selections from their service are always spot on and work perfectly to create the right mood and enhance the video experience. Thanks again, you're both lovely.
Greetings. I'm Italian and I live in Italy, but I love England. I've only seen a little of London, but you are introducing me to wonderful and unique places in the UK. I hope to be able to see them one day. Thanks for your work.
It's a living museum - not a town. Interestingly, they have dismantled whole buildings from villages and towns from around the north of England and moved them to the museum and rebuilt them - brick by brick. It's pretty amazing.
I love looking at house that have been preserved and one has a chance to see how they lived back then. It’s history that needs to be seen. Thank you for taking us along it was so much fun. 😊❤
I know they filmed The Wingless Bird,Catherine Cookson story at Beamish.Easy to recognise,as is the Downton Abbey filming locations.Thank-you for going to so much effort to show so much detail.
If you ever visit Canada, we have "Black Creek Pioneer Village" in the Toronto area; a recreation of life in 19th-century Ontario. Highly recommended although I haven't been there for a long time.
What foresight to establish such an open-air museum, living history, everything so well kept. Sorry your dad didn't have the train ride but I imagine the signal box and other exhibits made Beamish a highlight of his visit. I think the year long ticket arrangement is excellent. You managed to maximise your time there but great to have the opportunity to return. Thank you again, so much, I enjoyed every moment and thought the music you chose fitted so well. The fish and chips I could almost taste!🥀🌻🌺
I loved this video and will watch it over and over. I'll have to look it up on a map of England. So much to take in! The 1950's town looks like fun. I hope you can return and film other parts of this area in the near future.
Building since 1913 , that amazing and great that they take care of place's like that, I was sure I as going to like this. The little 1900 town is beautiful .thank you!
🇬🇧 🇬🇧 I love fish and chips. I'm surprised that so many countries in the world don't do fish and chips. After all, here in the 🇬🇧 you can get any world 🌎 foods in most towns and definitely in every city. Ps as a child, / teenager , ( in my home town, ) it was frowned upon to eat fish and chips in the street, except if you were on holiday somewhere, like Brighton. Pps. I was born in 1946.
Hi Kirsten and Joerg, what a lovely and quaint place the Beamish Living Museum is, it is like going back in time, everything being just as they were. I have not watched Downton Abbey; I am going to have binge it and look for the Beamish Living Museum. Thank you again for taking us away for a while. Hi Kirsten's dad, I am so happy you get this time with him. Love from N.Y.
Kirsten walking down the stairs with the stain glass window in the background was marvelous. I absolutely loved the blue dishes in the plate rack with the blue dishes table setting. Thanks for sharing this all with us. I so enjoyed your video!
I live about 30 minutes away from the museum, we always have a yearly membership and often go just for a walk around without ever going into the houses, I’m in my 60’s and I can remember as a child when they were planning the museum, it was just a collection of odds and ends with nothing properly organised long before the buildings were put up.
Hello my friends!! What a wonderful place and it was great to share your joy in being there. Joerg even did a happy dance!! This place reminds me a bit of Colonial Williamsburg, in Virginia. Totally restored in the 1930s.. it, like Beamish is a fascinating place. I love that no matter where you go you are so happy to be there, to be experiencing new things together. This was such a treat to see this Thursday morning. Thank you. Lawrie in Philadelphia
Glad You Got ToSee Beamish, As Well As Downton Abbey There Are Lots Of Things That Have Been Filmed There, If You Have Ever Seen A Cathrine Cookson Film ? Some Of Them Were Filmed There, It’s A Brilliant Place To Go Visit, We Love The Other Fish Shop That Is Run By A Coal Fire There Amazing You Must Go Next Time It’s Not Far From The School X
Thank you, what a nice couple you are and your videos are so calm and relaxing, that village is where most of us old folk would like to live, with lovely old shops, no metal shutters, no graffiti, no foul mouthed scumbags.....really nice!
Just love seeing this! Have you ever seen the 1997 movie, “The Wingless Bird” based on a Catherine Cookson novel? In your video, just after the print shop, you show the Jubilee Confectioners Shop. It was used in the movie!! Hope you get to watch it. Thanks for your time and effort on the channel. I love being an armchair traveler with you. I live in the States, but would love to visit…with your help, I do! Have a lovely day.😊❤️
What a wonderful place. An incredible living museum that’s for sure. It’s beautiful. We have been to Williamsburg here in the states but it reflects pretty much one time period. That place is amazing. Would love to visit someday. I had never heard of it.. Thanks so much for showing us that beautiful place.
I can not wait to get home to see your videos, I usually get your chat and new videos during my work hours and that why I sometimes miss them, just looking at the cover pics and titles I have no doubt it going to be a great one. Many blessings to the both of you and thank you both.
It’s wonderful that these pieces of built history has been preserved.
It really is!
YES! I am so thrilled this exists! thrilled! and so beautifully preserved!
Cider in hand (I rarely drink) I look forward to relaxing with Kirsten and Joerg, such lovely people.
What is the name of a cider?

You managed to maximise your time there but great to have the opportunity to return. Thank you again, so much, I enjoyed every moment and thought the music you chose fitted so well. The fish and chips I could almost taste!🥀🌻🌺
Buenos días yo esperando otro vídeo tan bonito gracias ❤❤❤❤😍😍😍😍😍
Hola, muchas gracias!
I loved this video and will watch it over and over. I'll have to look it up on a map
of England. So much to take in! The 1950's town looks like fun. I hope you can return and film other parts of this area in the near future.
Oh my thanks for taking us along, we had a wonderful time. Like something straight out of "A Christmas Carol". Just beautiful. Thanks again.
Dużo zdrowia dla Was i Taty.❤
Thanks so much!
This was so interesting and so much to see! Your filming was absolutely amazing, thank you!
Oh you are so kind, thank YOU!
Building since 1913 , that amazing and great that they take care of place's like that, I was sure I as going to like this. The little 1900 town is beautiful .thank you!
🇬🇧 🇬🇧
I love fish and chips.
I have never been to such beautiful places. But it's my dream to go one day. 💕
Thank you so much!
Thank you. Take care my dears❤
You are very welcome!
Kirsten walking down the stairs with the stain glass window in the background was marvelous. I absolutely loved the blue dishes in the plate rack with the blue dishes table setting. Thanks for sharing this all with us. I so enjoyed your video!
Thank you so much, so glad you liked it! I agree, the blue dishes in the plate rack were so gorgeous.
Thank you for everything... especially your dear faces (and your Dad's) and creative, bright travel clothes with calming music.
Thank you so much!
Thanks so much!
Joerg really has the moves!
I live about 30 minutes away from the museum, we always have a yearly membership and often go just for a walk around without ever going into the houses, I’m in my 60’s and I can remember as a child when they were planning the museum, it was just a collection of odds and ends with nothing properly organised long before the buildings were put up.
Loved this!
Hello my friends!! What a wonderful place and it was great to share your
joy in being there. Joerg even did a happy dance!! This place reminds me
a bit of Colonial Williamsburg, in Virginia. Totally restored in the 1930s..
it, like Beamish is a fascinating place. I love that no matter where you go
you are so happy to be there, to be experiencing new things together. This
was such a treat to see this Thursday morning. Thank you.
Lawrie in Philadelphia
Thanks so much Lawrie!
If your dad is still with you, there is a lovely steam train that goes from Haworth to Bingley.
So glad you like it! Oh yes, Williamsburg looks so amazing. I saw a house decorated by a designer there and love it so so much!
So you always find something news to see. What a wonderfull live museum. Thanks.
Thanks so much!
I can not wait to get home to see your videos, I usually get your chat and new videos during my work hours and that why I sometimes miss them, just looking at the cover pics and titles I have no doubt it going to be a great one. Many blessings to the both of you and thank you both.
Oh we so hope you will enjoy it! Thanks so much!
