Windows Defender on WIN10 or WIN11 is perfectly adequate IF you regularly get updates.
See that's yet another thing to hate about windows. Their stupid updates timed to force update when you need to use the computer the most.
I also had my ATAS-120A do this. Great video Mike on the fix! It is exactly what I did to get my back on the air. All I can say is occasionally the ATAS "forgets" where it is at (especially if you manually tune). The solution I, and others, have found is patience and power cycling the radio on/off. It eventually figures out where it is. Also try switching bands and re-tuning. Today mine was stuck on 10 meters and would not tune. I switched to 17 meters, and she tuned right up! The ATAS-120A has been my go-to POTA "drive up" antenna for 20-6 meters and I've made contacts from the USA to Asia, Europe and South America with it during POTA activations. It truly Rocks! 73 de KB9JQU
But zombies only want raw brains, so you should want to fry them for protection!
They're pretty delicious!
Awesome! I was gifted an Atas antenna and noticed it rattled… then out popped a bearing. Looks simple enough to get in order.
Always like the way you do your presentations.
Thank you very much!
It's All Ball Bearings! 👍📻⚡Thanks Mike! 🤘
Mike, I love these 'Mailbag Monday' Q&A videos. Great questions from viewers and very informative for new and long-time HAMs. Most of all I like that you keep them around 10 minutes. I follow several HAM and Guitar related videos every day. I do not have 12 hours a day to watch 30+ minute videos from everybody. I have followed you from your early days on UA-cam and you have come a long way from your humble, inexperienced beginning to an experienced knowledgeable HAM. Thanks for all you do to promote HAM radio...73 my friend! (a.k.a. stringbender57 on UA-cam)
Well hey, thanks so much for the kind words. Glad to have you here and glad you like the videos. I still have a long way to go in this wonderful hobby but its crazy to look back at those early days for a good laugh! I've really been focusing on upping the production quality of the videos so hopefully that is showing. Learning it all on my own as I go. 73 and rock on!
Working as a system admin in 3000 computer network, windows defender was really bad over the years but last few years it got really really good and is enough for protection.
I'm getting TMS therapy daily for depression. It jolts my face muscles and brain on every 1Hz or 10Hz EMP pulse..
If your face and brain ain't jolting, you're perfectly OK.😆👌🧲⚡️
Great video on an easy fix on the ATAS. Mike, why do I get the feeling that you are the guy who could break a ball bearing with a rubber mallet.....LMAO. No, you're rough on your equipment, but do well in fixing the damage. Thanks for your videos !
Well that sounds like a challenge to me lol!
I USE MY LEIXAN 25 WATT MANPACK, BACK PACK RADIO WHILE ON MY BACK. ITS UHF / VHF. I GUESS THIS IS WHY IM GOING BALD AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 60YRS OLD.
I hear it also causes SHOUTING:-). ( just kidding! ;-)
Is that balding more omnidirectional or do you have more off the back side lol?
Try do that Exposure calc on a standard handheld running 5W FM with an Abree with a bit of gain on UHF. It's quite a bit worse than a X6100 on 20m...
AAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE has all the gain!
The only thing I have fried with the hobby is my wallet.💸💸💸
That is a true, true statement!
McGruff, Falcor and The Bert!
Haha you saw that!
Never broke a ATAS before but I once broke a ASS trying to install a hexbeam by myself!! ☹
I just scored a new in-box ATAS-120a with everything but a mount. Do you have any mounts for pota and roof use? I have a metal roof, but I'm thinking about getting it as high as I can.
I don't worry about putting a radio near my head that my damage my brains, unless of course I'm sitting on the radio...
I have the ring for the atbk-100 but no radials. Could I cut some threaded rod to replace them? Would it work? What's the dimensions of the 4 radials?
Ohf no! Not the atas!
So much for the ATAS's manual - 'There are no user serviceable parts inside this antenna.'
They're all serviceable once you puncture the one sticker that is covering up one of the screws while also voiding your warranty. We're hams. They don't think we're going to take it apart? That's just silly.
Anyone know where I can get a replacement whip for the ATAS? Someone bent mine over one day while it was installed on the back of my truck.
I got mine at Gigaparts. www.gigaparts.com/yaesu-ra008440.html
@@hamradiotube Thanks Mike.
Good video. You say "whip" like Stewie...
Cool Hwip
@@hamradiotube - Keep up the great work! Always look forward to your videos.
Mike I was using my g90 for ft8 with the wsjtx and the flrig and a sound card but it was slow setting up every time so I ordered the cable and the digirig it works for 30 minutes and now it want work but I can pick the hand held microphone and it flash showing power and sound on the flrig what am I doing wrong
I have no idea, but I'd start by watching this video: ua-cam.com/video/al99ItgnJ9U/v-deo.html
? Mike
We have seen you pota sota possibly contest ?? but do you rag chew ? And if so what’s your favorite band freq to chew on ?? ☺️
Not really, no. I'm more a wham bam thank you ma'am exchange call signs, signal reports, and on to the next. The occasional talk about antennas and gear is always welcome, but I don't really care to talk about mundane stuff like the weather. Fav band would have to be 20 meters. Though 17 is pretty fun now that the sun has woken back up.
Hey Mike, great video nothing radio wise but I just want to say happy Thanksgiving and I hope you have a great day.

Steve
Hey Steve, I hope you have an even happier Thanksgiving. Thanks for always being here. 73 buddy.
My ATAS 120 will go down with the use of a 9v battery but I cannot get to go up using m 857D. Any suggestions?
I don’t know much about the 857. What does it do when you try it?
Hey Mike! How do you pronounce cool whip?
It’s pronounced Cool Hwip.
I think Windows runs Defender Anti-Virus by default. I will not be able to look at mine to verify for 24 or so hours.
Windows 10 and 11 have built in antivirus. It's Called Windows Defender. Not the best, but on a $60 laptop... it's just fine.
Do you really trust anything windows makes though? I mean, look at internet explorer.
@@hamradiotube my usual response is, install Linux.
Any excuse for Mike to play with his ball (bearings)........
Sir, I'm going to need you to turn your head and cough.
If you don't run a Multi Million Dollar Business and doing you all your MoneyTransfers and Wallstreet Shit online you are just more than fine with the Standard Microsoft Defender Anti Virus and Windows Firewall that comes with Windows OS. No need for Avast or Kaspersky Shit. Happy Monday, you HAM Radio Nerds... 💯👍🙋♂
Well now you tell me!
