Ive had "Why You Can’t Save Your Mother" bookmarked on my phone for years. Reading it the first time just sobbed and sobbed. I can only say thank you so much. This has been a catapult onto my healing journey.
Emotionally immature, mentally ill , aging mother who is the wife of a disabled husband ( my dad) and who both moved 10 minutes away from me . ME : 46 childless daughter ....

Loved this! Been working on my motherwound for several years now which I had come across your work in the beginning when I was searching on my deep and painful experiences. Your work was such a revelation for me. This video really confirms that although this journey isn't done, I have made so much progress. Currently writing a memoir in which is dedicated to my mother. My focus has been committed to my healing journey, because I felt it deeply that in order for me to be who and what I wanted to be I needed to do that. I knew that I'd want to break the cycle and it is so powerful. In fact that's a huge reason what is inspired me to write the memoir. As a Latina, I hope to inspire and introduce this concept of which you'll be mentioned in there because I really value your work. I could relate to every single thing you said in this video at some point in my journey & it feels good to see my growth and healing. Thank you! ❤

In narcissistic family systems, backlash for breaking the cycle is often a given and is vicious. Healing and not healing are both painful, but I refer to healing as clean pain because it's redemptive and not healing as dirty pain because it perpetuates the toxicity.

Exactly! I like that metaphor. That pain of healing is uncomfortable, but like powerful medicine that may taste horrible, it leads us to a new place of healing and wholeness in the end. Pain of *not healing* (or "dirty pain" as you call it) just wears us down. Reminds me of the phrase "Choose your hard." So hard to heal AND so worth it! Thank you for your comment!
