  • There are a couple common types of lever-operated drain stoppers for bathtubs, and each of them can fail for different reasons. We'll walk you through the simple process of unclogging both types by disassembling the lever and plunger mechanisms and clearing the blockage. You'll also learn how to adjust the stoppers so they seal properly when it's time to fill the tub for a bath.

Thank you! I have the second type, a Kohler, and thanks to this video, taking it apart was a snap. When I removed the linkage from the overflow pipe, a mass of hair came out tangled in the spring/weight at the end. Agonizingly slow drain is no longer that way.

Have a standard double kitchen sink. Those basket-with-rubber stoppers/washers hardly work when new, much less when the rubber gets stiff with age. Cure?
The drain of one goes to the drain from the other via gently sloped pipe, then down through the trap and to the back wall, then down to the main drain. It's the very devil to get the pipes just the right length, get them to hold together - especially when someone crams a too-high bottle of soap or something under there and knocks it lose. A "Real" plumber actually made it worse. Cure?
Or which issue of FH has the answers?
    Thanks!

    • @clovisgauthier3602

Same. Came here to lo0ok for answer. I'm going to very gently pry with a thin blade like a butter knife. I'm not leaving it for a plumber because I''m afraid he'll scratch my brushed nickel finish. After I pry it (if I can), I will clean if corroded. Then I will have the plumber fix the spring and linkage when he's here to replace PBU and mixing cap of shower faucet. I just want to look first and clean in case it's gross or the lever needs to be soaked in 50% vinegar/50% water. I like to do preparation for plumber if he'll be working on anything with a finish. So if he starts prying or not using strap wrench I can ask him to watch out for the finish.

It seem glued on.
