Nice review, greetings from Mexico
The real title of the book is simply THE SHRINKING MAN. The "incredible" was only added AT SOME LATER POINT because of the 1957 movie's widespread popularity. (I'd always felt that re-titling John Campbell's story WHO GOES THERE to 'THE THING" an awful idea that cheapened it.)
I'm glad you mentioned that a lot of of King's work is junk, as it seems most everyone ignores to take that into account.
I hope we can get to a point after so many years that use of the word "cheesy" is, by now, in itself pretty cheesy....no offense ;-7,,
Thanks for the review.
Comparing the first paperback Gold Medal editions (same format, typeface and size) of I AM LEGEND and THE SHRINKING MAN, the latter is exactly 32 pages longer.
What would you say is the difference between a "gimmick" and a "premise" (or idea)? Curious to define those differences (and/or similarities). Thanks.
(Yike, just noticed that this review is almost 10 years old!---hope you're still around after all that has happened since!)
Thanks again for the interesting overview.
