Amanda! You are the one we all tune in for. That Yorkshire bloke you hang out with is a lovely person too, and photos are half decent, but this is all about you 😁
Love Iceland! Lived 9 months on that peninsula with Vestrahorn, black sand, tidal basins, and north Atlantic sunrises and sunsets every day. Excellent photos!!!
A beautiful piece of glass. But dear God Gavin, keep it clear of any rivers or streams. lol. Can’t wait to see all the Iceland footage 🙌 Just finished watching today’s cinematic experience. Wow, such beautiful scenes and awesome inches. Can I borrow the Hasselblad after Amanda. lol. Cheers to this great journey you are taking us all on 👍
I love Iceland. I'm having a hard time picking which picture is best. I'm going to say, the first one. I know what you mean about that warm glow making the sand look like common sand. But, the big shadow in the foreground of the 2nd one blows out all those lovely sand lines. They are both gorgeous.
Usually everything, well most images of Iceland look like Mordor. These pictures are stunning. Even the grey sky of the waterfalls is over powered by that Carribean blue water. I will vote for the first image of grass and mountain. The green grass and sand are the stars and here and there is more of them to see. There is something unsettling about the second image. Maybe, it's like the dunes or the mountain are photo bombing each other? Not sure which. Nice to hear there is more to come!
I like the first one. It’s such a beautiful and expansive scene - and really makes me want to be there in that moment. The second one definitely has some interesting things going on the composition, but doesn’t give the same sense of scale and I don’t really care for the big shadow in the foreground. Great video. I’m looking forward to more from Iceland!
1st image of Vestrahorn. the 2nd image blocks the background for me. Though both are amazing. More locations that i missed on my previous trip to Iceland. I must get back there!

Good video, thanks. This is ridiculous how Island is beautiful!
I have the hardest time trying to choose between shots I take myself... now you are pushing me to make me choose one of yours... ugh! Seems many prefer the 2nd shot but I finally found several folks who like the 1st better. I have to go with my first impression else I'll still be looking at the two of them when your next video comes out! I lean toward the first one. The foreground is a tad overwhelming in the second shot to me. But then that's what makes life interesting... different things appear to different folks. Love your videos Gavin and especially love your educational videos and classes. Thanks to you and Amanda for all your good works to bring us great content!
Two beauty shots. I'm hanging my hat on the 2nd, this has more dynamics in its presentation. I like that the horizon (denoted by the ocean and base of the mountain) has been taken away leaving the grassy dunes in the mid ground (they really are the star in this scene with that wonderful light). And, the obvious mimicking of shapes of the grassy dunes and the mountains in the background is a nice touch. Critically I find more interest in the rippled sand foreground of the first shot. What a place, Iceland.
I prefer the second of the two shots of Vestrahorn. I like the way the subjects (mountains and dunes) fill the frame more and it just feels like a more interesting composition.
Wow! Those are beautiful. Good drone work too! Looking forward to the other videos. Of the two black-sand images, I think I prefer the first one. I like the balance between the size of the foreground elements and mountains in the background, the second is nice, just prefer the first!
Going by this one, these Iceland episodes are going to be epic. We spent time in Iceland last September and the scenery was incredible. I think your videos and photos are going to showcase what an amazing place it is. Good stuff Gavin and Amanda 👌
Amazing photographs as always. I've been meaning to tell you how much I've enjoyed the drone videography and photography this year. It's inspired me to try and use mine more.
Gavin, from the bottom of my heart I don’t begrudge it to you, you could test that lens early on. All the work you and Amanda have put into this channel is paying off. 🤗
The warmer shot, I think as as you say it brings in the tone of the sand that fits with the rest of the image. Plus, there is something of the composition and lead in lines of that tone that looks inviting. Just my 2 pence worth though
I prefer the first of the sand dunes. What I especially like of both is that the they concentrate on the foreground and the mountain is on the third place.
I love Iceland ! I was there beginning of June. Your pictures of Vestrahorn particularly touch me as I really wanted to photograph that place but the road was closed due to very strong winds ! But it part of the aventure in Iceland and I saw lots of other incredible sceneries! I prefer the first shot of Vestrahorn. Impatient to see the rest of your trip.
I’ve been looking forwards to your latest video al leek, and this did not disappoint. Lovely shots and what a great bit of quiet marketing for Hasselblad. Keep it up.
Although I like the texture of the sand in the first one, I’d pick the second because I like the look of the “pathway” in the sand better. All the pics are fantastic as usual! Separately, I signed up for the Ireland trip next April. I’m so pumped!!! 🎉
Looks a great idea but a slight bit of wind and it is giving camera shake unfortunately. I'd love this to be a good idea but it just isn't. You need a separate tripod holding a golf brolly over the setup or a camera that is very water resistant. Or just hold the brolly if possible.
@@mozzman Happy to answer that for you. Ashstubbings2603 and or any other viewer might see the brolly holder and think great idea, excitedly buy one only to discover the scenario I describe absolutely WILL occur and they will realise they wasted some money. It is very easy to not realise that something which looks a good idea actually isn’t and when they found out it’s too late. So I was trying to be helpful. If my comment didn’t help you then great no need to get all comment police about it. My comment was polite, accurate and might save someone some money. If you would rather I had not made the comment then you are all out of luck. I made the comment, it is there and here we are changing your nappy over it.
Yay I commented on your video awhile ago that it would be good to see you in some new locations and Iceland was one of my top recommendations and now your there🎉 Can’t wait to see what you capture there!!. Have fun
That's a girthy lens ... I'm surprised it's not weather sealed! Don't get it wet! 😏Some day I'll get to Iceland in the summer when everything is green! I usually go in November because my wife goes to the Iceland Noir Festival and I get to travel around for a week ... but it's usually a week of sideways rain and grey skies! 😶🌫
Nice, You certainly had better weather than I did in the first week of August. The Bruarfoss I also shot with the long lens from underthe bridge. I also managed to get sharp shots using the drone with the 10 stopper and 1 second exposure time. I generally use the lenshood to keep rain and spray off the lens or a lens cloth until just before pressing the shutter button
Agreed... nice to see a video in Tuesday. (no doubt in honour of the US Presidential candidate debate tonight... al least something will make sense today!) Enjoyed the preview of more to come from Iceland, and beautiful work as always Gavin! Well, off to clean the gear to get ready for my fall trip to beautiful Cape Breton in the beginning of October. Cheers!
You can send me that abused camera so you two don’t have to fight over it. You do an amazing job with it. The photos are amazing makes me want to go an attempt it. Nice drone work in the waterfalls too. Thanks for sharing..
Hi Gavin. As fo rthe pics at Vestrahorn, I have it really difficult to decide which one of them I like more. The first one shows slightly better what is the actual landscape, with the sea between the dunes and the mountains. But the second one is more moody, more dramatical. So ... And well, I must confess I'm suffering a hard attack of envy for three reasons: the camera, the lens ... and Iceland. All of the three in my bucket list 😂
Ooohhhh..... Happy Tuesday!!! for getting your video....the week is going to be far shorter now 😉 The first dune shot, it was simpler than the second and it allowed me more time to reflect upon the highlighted sand effects . Hopefully you will allow Amanda at least a fleeting glance at your tool.....erm..I meant to say...new lens!!!
Awesome images, Gavin. I prefer the cooler image. In the past, I’d have always erred towards warm, but the X2D has encouraged me to take a more subtle approach to colours - and cooler is usually more appropriate for the more sophisticated amongst us - like you and me.
Cool lens. I’ll keep my 21mm prime. I thought I would miss zooms when I switched to Hasselblad but at the wider end it’s easy to fix composition with your feet. I’ll be interested if they ever release a longer zoom in the 75-150 range. I saw your shots featured on their instagram page. Great work
Greetings! Regarding the beach compositions I’d prefer the first one. The second one is a bit blocky for me. Or like seeing your cold wet conkers in a river trying to get the perfect composition 😁 All the best guys!
Personally i like the first photo . I feel the second photo is hiding a part of the photo you are wanting to see. All great photos and love the video 👍
I like the first shot of the dune - I like seeing the ripples in the sand leading up to the mid-ground / background - The second one seems a little too busy
since you are an hasselblad user and you used the 25mm f/2.5 extensively, would you also agree cropping the 100 megapixel file taken with that lens is perfectly fine? although I am happy seeing hasselblad making zoom lenses, if I try to see the matter from the perspective of an existing hasselblad user, this new lens doesn't make much sense unless you like burning money like wood in a stove.
Beautiful video you put together and awesome photo's! Looking forward to the rest of the Iceland series. Cheers from 'Cleethorbes', Antarctica ;-) P.S. Undecided about the dune picture too, sorry. They're both good. Maybe make one a limited edition print and use the other for whatever else.
Phenomenal lens, with a rather phenomenal pricetag. Think I'll be sticking to my smaller, lighter primes. (And hoping that Hasselblad makes more P lenses.) As always, you've captured some absolutely stunning photos. Out of the two Vestrahorn shots, I'm personally more drawn to the first. I prefer the perspective, with the body of water separating the dunes from the mountains, and a better view of the distant mountains on the right. It feels like a more natural perspective, and I could imagine myself standing right there taking in the awesome landscape.
loved all the shots here, hard to pick between the warm sand or cooler one, the comp on the warm one was nicer but the sand was doing that blue dress white dress effect? maybe you'd need to get right down to the grains of sand to see the sparkle so youre brain registered '' yeah! this is feckin black sand!!!''
Oh wow, amazing image at 11:20. That's indeed very nice that no focus stacking was necessary. No diffraction problems at F11? - At 13:40 😆😆😆, just match the orange spot on the cap and the lens, push it slightly together and twist clockwise 😆😆😆
But now I'm hungry for the delicious aperitif. Let's see what's for the main course, some seasoning with salt will definitely be necessary. This island isn't called Iceland for nothing, it's definitely always a bit slippery there😂💪👌👍🙋♂

Amanda! You are the one we all tune in for. That Yorkshire bloke you hang out with is a lovely person too, and photos are half decent, but this is all about you 😁
You mean there is someone else on this video besides Amanda?
@@richardhswan8069 Gavin who ?
Your voice is deeper than the DoF of a wide angle 16mm at F22.
And thats pretty deep and beautiful
A new Fototripper and a cup of coffee…on a Tuesday morning even! Not only should this cure my headache, but also send me off to work in a better mood!
You nailed it! Either one for me but the green mounds makes the scene "refreshing".
Fantastic shots and I love your explanation of how you set up for each of these.
the second one for sure!! just a smooth feeling to the picture, soft vibes. definitely the second one!!
I like the second photo. There’s more drama and the shape of the dunes compliments the shape of the mountains
like the first shot, the shapes and texture of the dune compliment the mountain. It's book worthy IMHO.
This Iceland series is going to be epic if this taster is anything to go by.
Love Iceland! Lived 9 months on that peninsula with Vestrahorn, black sand, tidal basins, and north Atlantic sunrises and sunsets every day. Excellent photos!!!
I like the first shot because of it's composition, it has a less bussy foreground and all in all better ballanced.
Great pics… Iceland is next level!
You are right. Bruarfoss is simply magnificient whether you go wide or shoot more detailed framing.
I like the 20 mm shot…lovely foreground touched by golden light
0:45 - risking your life right there, Amanda may take an epic shot at you.
After watching you getting such fabulous shots with that camera and new lens I can’t wait to see your next location Gavin.
The second image with the black sandbank is my favorite. It is more surprising and makes me curious.

Soooo pumped to see the videos coming from this trip. Never ceases to amaze me how beautiful Iceland is and it seems you will have done it justice.
Man I really need to get to that island! That valley shot was gorgeous, all the rain aside.
Those drone shots are killer!!
Absolutely stunning stills and drone footage!
1st shot of the sands ; as you say warmer light and more interesting detail in the sand.
You are now a rockstar having your photos featured in Hasselblads ads.
1st image of Vestrahorn. the 2nd image blocks the background for me. Though both are amazing. More locations that i missed on my previous trip to Iceland. I must get back there!
Good video, thanks.

Great video. I like the 1st of the two black sand photos because of way the shadows from the ripples point to the mountain.
Can't wait to see your Iceland serie !
I much prefer the 1st shot with more sand waves in the black dunes
Georgous images, can't wait for the next videos.
looking forward to the Iceland VLogs for sure
Nice scene there. Looking forward to finding similar closer to where I live every 10 years ha ha. Keep up the great work Gavin.
I like the second of the two beach shots; it just seems like the less obvious composition. I like the sky above the mountains better as well.
thanks for the nice vid mr fototripper! hopefully make it to iceland one of these years
I prefer the first of the sand dunes. What I especially like of both is that the they concentrate on the foreground and the mountain is on the third place.
Here because of TH's recommendation....very good!
Can't wait to watch this series !! I LOVE Iceland !
The second shot is the better one by far Gavin.

The second (cooler) dune shot for me.
Another great video Gavin, thank you very much....Colin Devon UK...
Can't wait. The photos were all epic looking forward to the series
I prefer the first flying sand shot Gavin, the prefer the sand texture in the foreground of the first one. 🙂
I prefer the second one. It's up close and personal.
I found the second dune shot to be very pleasing to me.
Happy to see Hasselblad hooking you up!
