Funny how Bungie has to nerf the crap out of plasma weapons in order to achieve balance. Yet in the lore the plasma rifle is a monster on the battlefield.
One hit, and they are down if I am right, and the plasma rifle lasts for days on end, and they do have, charging stations for their weapons too anyway.
Ok rail/coil gun… cool. now imagine this. A rail gun ,ie a electromagnetically accelerated projectile, that fires something that can track, is 6x more dense then earths heaviest natural element osmium, and is 3000 degrees Celsius, probably radioactive?, and so can melt through basically any material based armor plating at compatible scale. Oh wait that’s a covent plasma weapon. Oops. Seriously the density of our sun’s core plasma is 150 grams per centimeter cubed where as Osmium is 22 grams per cubic centimeter. All wile being magnetically manipulate-able like a metal. Now I could of based the possible plasma density of nutronium from white dwarfs but I believe that’s a separate state of matter. Also note in space warfare, realistically, overheating your opponent’s space craft is paramount. This is because the vacuum of space is a much worse conductor of heat then air so one can not as easily wait for heat to dissipate unlike hear on earth; essentially forcing your opponent to jettison their precious cargo/shed their shields or bake to death. So yeah heat damage is space is pretty Brocken. Think about a hydrogen fuel cell electric generator. Even though hydrogen is a gas it still stores more energy in its molecules then lithium ion battery’s. If you don’t believe me look up the tanks on a 300 mile electric and hydrogen car to compare the size. The battery for a EV is the entire bottom of the car where as the equivalent energy storage is about two medium sized tank. Note also hydrogen does not go bad as fuel and because it is a fuel, can be refueled instead of recharged which saves alot of time. Compare filling up your car with gas vs charging a EV even in “fast charge”, refueling is faster. Now dense plasma, like that found in Star cores (our sun being mostly hydrogen) can pack way more energy into a smaller space by essentially being ultra dense electrically and thermal charged hydrogen. With such density no wonder cov weapons can fire continuously for far longer without having to reload compared to human weapons density of 150 grams per cm3 plasma or hell some stars get 500 grams per cm3. Even better ,since every element known to man is just hydrogen fused together, these “plasma batteries” would double as ultra compact material storage. Imagine cramming titanium, gold, or any other needed elements down to the equivalent amount of 150-500 grams per cm3, then fusing the hydrogen into the needed elements to “unpack them”. Makes me wonder about cov manufacturing or if their projectile materials in cov weapons are made within the weapon itself (except the fuel rod which has a viable clip). So yeah I am a plasma Stan.
Expanding on the statement about a treaty to between the species to better understand the plasma rifle, I'd be super interested in a video about Human-Sangheili relations following the Human-Covenant war.
2:17 what I love about this weapon is how elegant it is. In the hands of a sangheili it is one handed automatic rifle of death, that's snug and becomes an extension to the arm. Like a Warrior and their sword. In Halo Wars 1 Elite squads with grunts have the classic Halo look and when you zoom in on them and get a closer look at them you see the animations for the elites take advantage of its compact design, and gracefully and elegantly maneuver with the plasma rifle. It's a sight to behold and just feels right when you see it. Makes me sad that it was discontinued for a more bulkier appearance after 500 years of service
I think the design probably stagnated because that's about as far away as a Sangheili would ever want to get in honorable combat. Plus the Covenant doctrine of overwhelming numbers means just about any weapon would do in the hands of a born warrior and no upgrades were really ever required.
The plasma rifle is quite effective already, it’s a beast on the battlefield and very efficient for covenant tech. The point above, the fact that the covenant are far more imitative than innovative, and the reasons you listed as well, are most likely reasons as to why the plasma rifle never saw any significant upgrades. Plus, as Stephen pointed out, it looks dope.
Although you were talking about the CE Version, I think you should have mentioned that the Brutes also had a variant. Love the series mate, keep it up!
Can you tell him, flipyap, yapflip, and dipstik just smoked a fat one behind a New Mombasa dumpster? That jackal's such a lightweight. No clue how he got that close, when I play ODST everyone from the lowliest grunty-boi to the fuzzy-wuzzies already know my name, birthday, and Social Security number from the next block over.
It wasn't so much that the storm rifle replaced it, but rather that combat doctrine changed. Late in the war (Reach), and after, the plasma rifle began to fill a role humans would more associate with sub machine guns or SBRs, instead of a full size combat rifle. It's mostly the result of infantry combat ranges expanding during the war. The Covenant used few fast projectile weapons, and there were religious restrictions on modifying Forerunner derived weapons. Once the Covenant broke, the Sangheili were free to upgrade, although you don't see it in Halo 3 due to time constraints. Much like modern terrorist groups, I suspect the Covenant splinter factions after the war don't have any problem using gear designed and built by heretics.
Wouldn't be much to it. Ceramic/polymer blend armor is pretty cut and dry.................. We have that now in many if not most countries you can buy it yourself. Ceramics are heat resistant and the polymer dissipates heat by melting.

it's interesting how similar the damage of covenant plasma weaponry is compared to the imperium's laz weaponry, though in comparison I would prefer to use the Laz Gun over the plasma rifle for many reasons.
I absolutely love your content thank you so much for all the hard work you do. I have been a halo fan since 2001, it was my first favorite video game and still is now 18 years later and I love it's lore this, this is the Halo channel I've been searching for again thank you. P.s. Maybe a video on the T-33 munitions launcher/Needler please.
Hey man, I found out your content just recently but i gotta say that's there's nothing out there like this. Keep up the good work, as I see a lot of potential :)
There is a jackal in halo reach on the mission ' pillar of autumn ' that is using a plasma rifle and, if I'm not mistaken, is the only one in all of the games. This leads me to believe that it is of a higher rank. This makes sense as the covenant would send the best among its ranks to stop noble team. It's interesting to me that the devs would give that one jackal a plasma rifle.
There is, but they are pressure pads. As for why, a trigger is specific to a species their hand, considering the covenant is multispeices it is easier to have pads as *one size fits all* then triggers. Although elites can use human weapons their handling is *awkward*
The UNSC is still using the 12.7x99mm and 7.62x51mm cartridges, first introduced in 1921 and 1954 respectively. By Halo 5 in 2558, that's over six hundred years in use.
The Magnum pistol would be interesting. Explaining why they changed what was a perfect pistol from Halo 1, to what the UNSC came up with in Halo 2 and then back to the great design.
Hey dude, I love your channel! Just found it last night and I’ve been binging your content all day! I adore your detailed looks and explanations into items, theories, armors, etc from Halo. It’s really interesting to me. Do you have any future plans for Sangheili visors? I think the Combat Harness one was my favorite and I’d love to hear more about their race/tech from you! Thanks and keep making amazing Halo Vids :3
Playing ODST with Famine and Catch skulls on be like 2:49 - (it's also the best way to play ODST - Famine because it adds a quasi-'survival' scrounging element to the game, and catch because it makes even fighting grunts, especially in groups, a potentially deadly experience, dissuading the player from defaulting to "chief mode").
My one and only complaint is that while it's never been shown how plasma weapons are reloaded, it would almost have to be something that's done. If not by soldiers carrying multiple power packs/gas canisters then by recharging stations of some sort. Of course, this is assuming the weapon isn't just so cheap and easy to produce that it's logistically viable for every Sangheili to have several of them issued over the course of any given operation. This ease of manufacturing however, would raise the question of how Humanity never figured it out over the course of the war.
Recently, I've come to question something about the battery mag of the rifle. We know that, for gameplay balance, the plasma weapons are really nerfed. So I heard in lore that a fresh plasma rifle has enough energy in the battery to give the user days worth of shots. Is this actually true and, if so, where in the expanded lore is this info?
Wasn’t there some that were modified by some human faction to hav a reflex sight mounted on top as well as a “charge counter?” I remember reading about it in one of the novels (can’t remember which one) and how one of the prophets assigning a team to investigate how the humans got their hands on them and modified them
Is there any in game Lore y some unsc weapons like the dmr are in reach but its not in halo ce and reach takes base before ce and we don't see the dmr tell halo 4, or y there's no assault rifle in halo 2 but there is in halo ce
Can you make a video about the Spirit of Fire? Also, the way you described the plasma rifle, it almost sounds like we have most of the tech to make it, we just need to be able to control magnetic fields better.
Since the Elites are physiologically similar to humans it sill makes little sense to use a non-shouldered weapon unless the range is just ridiculously short. My theory would be the plasma would spread too much for long range and not concentrate on the target. Star Wars canon gets around this with a gas that acts as an adhesive when charged into plasma.
@@Blind_Side94 Accuracy or mitigating dispersion of shots has nothing to do with strength, stability through posture and technique does. A steroid freak body builder isn't going to stack full auto fire in a high concentration just because he has freakish strength whereas a runt who was taught proper posture/technique and knows the limitations/functions of the gun will produce tighter groupings.
@@AKlover you are going deep on it i just kinda meant what if elites aren't as similar to us as they look like they are made different not just denser muscles and bones but perhaps they lock into place kind of the way Olympic pistol shooters lock there elbows in that weird kind of backwards looking way and i dont know i have seen alot of different shaped people shoot a shotgun for the first time and the bigger more muscular type people don't even get knocked off balance
It's a great video and very interesting. One observation though is that some bits of speech seemed to be cut off halfway through a word. So, when you're editing, just be careful to leave a bit at the end of that sentence, so we can catch our breath and you don't chop off half a word accidentally.
I find it quite strange that most of the Plasma-Weapons we see can't be reloaded for some reason. Do they just toss it away ( i know he said That's what they did in games) -and make a brand new one once it's empty? Or do you guys think there is a way to actually reload these things, but it's kept a secret by the covenant, before and after? Otherwise it seems like a waste. Nonetheless it is an awesome and iconic weapon from Halo. Edit: Or maybe i am just being dumb and not paying attention and he said how they do it and i just missed it.
Anyone else find it odd that the Covenant Carbine is larger than the Plasma Rifle? The Plasma Rifle, to me at least, always resembled a large SMG or PWD rather than a full length rifle.
True, might be due to Bungie getting better at defining guns. The Type-25 is at best a small assault rifle, and not necessarily long range in any way, either.
Hey I love your content :) I was just wondering about the odst battle harness video you posted a poll on a week or so back. Thanks and love the new vid mate 👍
No! Shut the fuck up! Sorry but people have to understand that shit will change and has changed. The older halo games are overrated while the newer games are hated because they don't feel like halo which was originally boring as fuck and you can go through it with almost no trouble. The newer games require you to actually stop and examine the battle field for weapons and a better way to get past. I like the newer games but osiris was annoying but still cool. Let go of the past.
Am I the only one who gets confused about the Plasma Rifle? Because it really isn't a rifle. It's more like super compact WWI SMG or a Machine Pistol. We know the Elites do use rifle-like weapons, with the Carbine(which also isn't that much of a Carbine), so why this was called a plasma rifle is absolutely baffling to me EDIT: The reason I find this so baffling and irritating is that there's a whole bunch of other names they could have given it or just designed it to be more of a rifle but they didn't. Even with the Sangheli stagnation, I'd assume their traditional rifle would be more like the Plasma Repeater(TBH the names should be swapped) or the storm rifle. I get why it's so widespread with the Elites, as it's a compact and powerful weapon that still allows the use of your other hand, but we already have a name for that, and that's "PDW" or "Machine Pistol".
While they make the BR AND DMR take that OP role that belongs to the Plazma weapons.. bruh I'm so tired of using DMR and BR as my primary go to weapon, we need all weapons to be viable in HALO INFINITE and we need a day when you will drop your BR or DMR for that good toasty fun plazma rifle. When WILL THAT DAY COME!!
This thing is a portable genocide.. You die from shock as the burns cause the fluid in your body to explode from flash vaporization. Your lungs can fry if you breathe the air in which a plasma bolt traveled through.. Not to mention that plasma can cut through almost any kind of cover like a hot knife through butter. Covenant weapons are absolutely grotesque in lore. Carbine shots slowly irradiate you to death if the heat from the shots don't kill you first. A single needle combine will make a cavity in your chest the size of a basketball and riddle you with thousands of shards sharper than glass.. Those are the lucky ones tho. You don't wanna live through the agonizing pain if you get hit in a non vital area. Dont get me started on brute spikers. Those things were made to kill brutes. ie: an 8ft 1500 pound beast. If a chimp has the capacity of ripping our limbs off with ease, can you imagine what these behemoths can do?!? A single spike would kill the average marine 10 times over and send his body flying.. The sheer velocity of such a heavy projectile on a small frame.. Think what a whale harpoon could do to a man, then miniaturize it. Thats what they're dealing with.. Halo: Landfall came close to portraying the viciousness of this weapon, sadly they miniaturized the projectiles to give the protagonists a fighting chance... Humanity doesn't win this war if the technology stayed true to the lore..
Funny how Bungie has to nerf the crap out of plasma weapons in order to achieve balance. Yet in the lore the plasma rifle is a monster on the battlefield.
How is that funny though? Seems like it makes total sense. It's a monster on the battlefield, so they had to nerf it for multiplayer.
One hit, and they are down if I am right, and the plasma rifle lasts for days on end, and they do have, charging stations for their weapons too anyway.
Robert Walker I believe the resupply stations you can get covenant weaponry from act as charging stations for plasma weapons

One observation though is that some bits of speech seemed to be cut off halfway through a word. So, when you're editing, just be careful to leave a bit at the end of that sentence, so we can catch our breath and you don't chop off half a word accidentally.
wait, the type 25 rifle does not utilize gun powder so that makes it not a NFA rifle and I can own one?
What about the plasma repeater?
It's only 13 LBS and most of the weight is focused at the handle meaning it would be easy to hold one handed
Could you do the lore behind the sprit
My favorite Halo weapon
Probably because the weapon doesn't need a long barrel since it's not technically a rifle & the components don't need to be large to be effective
Ryan Hammond the human designated names of the two weapons doesn’t make sense in my opinion.
Plasma Machine Gun just doesn’t flow off the tongue as well
Hey I love your content :) I was just wondering about the odst battle harness video you posted a poll on a week or so back. Thanks and love the new vid mate 👍
New very VERY soon. I added a few bits. Wanted to get it just right.
Will we see more human designed energy weapons in future games?
Hm I thought plasma weapons didn’t cauterise the wounds?
Nice!

Do Spartan 3 and 4 augmentation next. Please.
Do a video on the carbine.
Do a video on the battle rifle next
A video about odst helmet/visor
The whole suit is on its way, with no expense spared for the helmet. You'll love it.
@@Installation00 yess can't wait
Was inter-species relationships a thing in the halo universe? Because its common in the mass effect universe.
Kig-Yar are kinky af.
Imagination if this iconic weapon was changed just for the sake of change.
We know the Elites do use rifle-like weapons, with the Carbine(which also isn't that much of a Carbine), so why this was called a plasma rifle is absolutely baffling to me
EDIT: The reason I find this so baffling and irritating is that there's a whole bunch of other names they could have given it or just designed it to be more of a rifle but they didn't.
Will you cover Halo fanon stuff, soon?
Needler next
Can you give the spartan IIIs pls. I feel like they are not given enough love
👍
Do the plasma repeater
that would be quite brutal as well singe the projectile gas will become a superacid: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_fluoride
I miss this weapon..... storm rifles ain’t doin it for me
Wasn't there like 2 versions of the "plasma rifle" like a 1 handed version thats small or 2 handed version that's slightly longer 🤷🏾♂️
Gotta love how your videos are more than just word vomit from a wiki article.
tooo bad it velocity is slower then modern rifle by 10 times
Hey Installation00. If you can see this, I'm noticing alot of my previous likes from when these vids first dropped are suddenly gone.
Are you ESO's brother 😂
Ebic
Too bad dual wielding was removed from Halo :(
So I guess humans can't produce this yet?
All I see is a bird looking at its reflection.
Ha! I understood that reference.
Halo: Combat Evolved's is the best.
