      @@Stuntmachine14 yeah, but the fact they kinda removed the stagger animations when enemies get hit makes it not meta anymore.
      I hate how in halo reach and also in halo 2 made enemies feel like too much like bullet sponges.
      One of the greatest aspect of halo 1 combat was that enemies could be staggered by your shots and you could do some types of combos like a fighting game when you have bonus frames on hit, you could move, retreat, switch to another weapon, close in and finish it, close in and melee, throw a grenade etc... when for example you break an elite shield or a jackal does a dodge roll or gets hit. Also you clould punish an enemy when it tries to dodge or throw a grenade, exaple the elite strafe or gold elite jump, but you need to be good.

    Makes you wonder what a Covenenant shotgun would have been? Probably a dead ringer for the Geth Shotgun in the Mass Effect series. Though Plasma projectiles make a shotgun largely pointless unless the "shot" is massive and soaks the target.

      Covvie shotgun.
      How about rather than using a single electro magnetic containment field to contain the plasma, you make load of tiny "honeycomb" electromagnetic fields of negative polarity within the larger field.
      You form it as the plasma enters the barrel. As it is fired, the larger electromagnetic field collapses and the now uncontained honeycomb of smaller negative polarity fields are free to repulse one another, giving you dozens of smaller plasma filled "shot" that spreads the further down range....

      @@AKlover yet the actual damage of the weapons' in mass effect are nothing specials neither is the shielding. In fact they actually function similar to both star wars and halo like it seems all plasma based weapons seems to. Ballistic weapons are still currently the better option other than the pure heat plasma gives off...you forget that halo plasma burns hotter than the sun all of the plasma weapons do actually including the little pistol. Which is why in lore marines despite being better armored than alliance units feared them. It would burn through their armor and them like nothing. Now n7s are more like odsts than anything with shielding that is pathetic at best. Also the geth weapons are still more bullet based than energy based. Like the geth plasma shotgun, the Spitfire is not a true energy weapon. Instead, the minigun magnetically flings clusters of superconducting toroids. These donut-shaped projectiles are designed to shatter upon impact, arcing electricity between the fragments and flash-converting them to plasma. The gun's punishing, automatic blasts impact with the heat of a cutting torch. Reaper weapons that use mini black holes as theorized which would make sense and firing something that dense would be impossible but also wouldn't be controllable...more like the element emits a similar function by tearing apart the atoms that it touches which makes you wonder what containment for it to work actually can hold it if that's the case. The reapers were meant to be impossible to stop type of enemy not logical. Though reading more of their lore..they aren't special..the unsc weapons are more effective than mass effects weapons' for the most part. And the covenant weapons' would probably demolish them and lets not talk about hard light and forerunners because my god its a pain to think of. The way their kinetic shielding works as well..well it wouldn't actually work...nor be any more effective against kinetic damage or energy...the way they work is actually really sad..as its just repulsion technology basically it wouldn't even shield like it does in game its just its painful to explain. Also geth weapon explanation...toroids are just revolutions' with holes in the middle. Basically a coil projectile..that would be horrible as an actual projectile. Much of mass effect doesn't work in the slightest because its not meant to. Star wars and halo was based off old technology when they were made actually both were based off similar time periods ironically.
      mass effect a great game overall...the rest....not so much..

    Just going to point out some plasma pistol feats. In several comics it's proven itself extremely powerful. Once it overpenetrated through a grunt from end to end. An overcharged shot destroyed a sealed blastdoor making a hole big enough for two odst's to jump through, and the overcharge is powerful enough to kill an entire squad of covenant troops in one shot like a grenade.

    Why did 343 nerf this weapon to the point of almost being made useless in Halo 4? The enemies can hold it infinitely, they can do 90 degree turns to hit you (probably not but seriously it's almost impossible to dodge), it takes 2% for each standard shot when you use it and it drains incredibly fast if you hold the overcharge and I'm pretty sure that it costs more ammo to use the EMP.

    This is good information for fanfiction. Details are everything. Speaking of which, don't Covenant plasma weapons also generate beta radiation? So if the shot, by some miracle, doesn't kill you then the radiation will.
    Would like to see a video comparing Covenant Plasma weapons with SW Blaster tech. Just highlight the differences between how each of the weapons operate. Strength and weakness of both.

    • @patton3rd1
      @patton3rd1 5 років тому +15

      The beta ratiation isn't too big of a concern. Beta does not penetrate well and would certainly be blocked by thick clothing or armour. It could, with long term exposure damage skin cells and eyes and, if inhaled, the lungs.
      If a soldier has plasma pistol bolts landing near enough to them to expose them to high levels of beta radiation, the radiation is the least of their concerns

    • @SwiftGundam
      @SwiftGundam 5 років тому +6

      Every time their weapons discharge, they let out a burst of beta radiation. The Covenant species seem to have developed a force evolution to better protect them from the bursts. Said in the Mona Lisa story.
      They make it sound like its high enough to be very lethal in the expanded media

    • @Eleolius
      @Eleolius 5 років тому +3

      So as a generality they are in a broad family. Ironically the best definition of a SW blaster is a low density, hyper velocity plasma railgun. Covenant weapons are high density, low velocity weaponry. Ballistically, such as the term applies, the Covenant plasma is very inferior. Velocity is horribly low... usually slower than even primitive fire arms from the middle ages. In damage potential, the average covenant plasma rifle delivers more punch (in theory) than a star wars model. However, paradoxically, star wars blasters massively outperform covenant weaponry in range and accuracy. In theory, they win out in power output as well when we look at rifles like the DC15A... though something like an E11 is close to the level we see from the plasma repeater or rifle. Advantages for Covenant: raw yield and trauma effects. Ready access to overcharge effects, anti vehicle effectiveness. Advantages for Blasters: Ergonomics, refire rate, accuracy, range, precision. Blaster bolts are massively more efficient at delivering their power output to a single point, and give off minimal waste heat and radiation, and so pose much less hazard to the user. They do deliver less raw energy when hitting at optimal conditions, though as battlefield implements, Blasters are far superior... in HALO, dodging plasma fire is relatively easy. Plasma weapons are hard to hit with against moving targets. Hence conventional ballistic weaponry remains a preferred option for Halo forces. Blaster bolts achieve significantly higher velocity than slug throwers, and so marksmanship is far easier. Furthermore, the huge surface area of plasma bolts PLUS the long exposure time to atmospheric conditions/heat bleed means the bolts lose comparatively large and amounts of yield over distance. Blaster bolts lose much less of their effect over the same range, although the yield is lower to begin with. Recoil on blasters also appears to be significantly lowet as well. (Disclaimer, I am writing from a comprehensive Legends perspective, not Disney Canon or old Canon exclusively).

    • @yulfine1688

      @@Eleolius I suggest you re research then. The current estimates put both of them around basically the same speed..or the star wars blaster being slower...the biggest difference is actual super heated plasma hotter than the core of the sun vs crystalline gas with a very small amount of plasma in the bolt. In actuality the speed of covenant weapons is many times faster than what they give number wise...similar to the unsc where the rocket missiles are currently said to be like 90mph in gameplay..we know for a fact that the rocket moves much faster than that not only in game play but in its lore. Similar to how the snipe shoots at 1450m/s but in todays world now are around 1000m/s give or take a bit it varies average is around 900 something m/s. So the halo sniper doesn't sound bad though more than likely the actual shot speed is closer to 2500-3000 m/s if not more. basing it off what I can from gameplay and whats said unless we actually held them we wouldn't really know. Star war blasters for the most part seem to all basically run the same way. By that I mean in every gameplay I have screwed around with and calculations they all are pretty much the same in terms of speed with their rifles shooting much slower than they probably do. based off legends a blaster bolt moves at 2,217.356 m/s if not much faster than that since it has to completely out pace ballistic. Course everywhere in legends everything is fired at light speed and the actual bolt is the gas that makes the effect exist..but if that was the case...then the actual blaster shot...is no near light speed..let alone hypersonic..so everywhere when doing their calculations show them at being at max around 250-300m/s. The turbo lasers on the ships however is a bit different, whats been calculated rather than just randomly said around is around 50000m/s full a full powered turbo laser shot from a star destroyer which seems on par with what we see. Their engagements aren't that far being only a few thousand meters away at a time...star wars weapons have surprisingly limited range. Orbital bombardments are very close to the planet assuming lets say earth to the beginning of where space begins is 4828032 meters using the max estimate science currently has or close to it the minimum estimate is 804672 meters or well similar enough. In that case the top estimate no longer makes sense for how fast the turbo lasers actually shoot as they only take what a few seconds to hit the planet or something. At that highest estimate of the start to hit the ground it would take what 80 seconds or so to actually hit one shot. Course its usually a small fleet or large fleet with them all shooting at basically rapid fire once in position so when you're shooting tens of thousands or more bolts 80 seconds no longer sounds very long. Though its still not correct id assume 5 seconds per shot to hit the ground. in any case if it takes 5 seconds for one bolt to travel 4828032 meters then I don't know something like 965,606.4m/s in speed. 2160000mph. or 36000 miles per second assuming I didn't ruin all the math that I probably did but too lazy to check. That would mean based off the numbers before id average a blaster bolt to be firing at a random estimate of 5k+mph or something like that. So basing it all off that you either get a really piss poor excuse for weapons or something that is ridiculous and nothing should be able to withstand a single bolt low powered or not because the amount of force that one bolt would give off assuming anyways some other nerd can do the it all themselves and find the actual numbers. Back to halo plasma weapons the type 25 plasma rifle is said in lore to shoot at 126m/s which is extremely slow at 281 mph or 412 feet per second. That is extremely slow and is more like an airsoft bullet hitting you but burning hotter than the sun...id say in reality the actual speed in many times faster. At least told. gameplay it is definitely slow and we all know it..well until halo 2 legendary and they fire so fast that its ridiculous and the speed of the projectile seems to increase many times over lol. So I mean..using more accurate at least using our current time for ballistic weapons we could assume to double or triple the output of their ballistic weapons. Plasma weapons don't exist here. Sort of anyways there was somewhat of a test of a bunch of plasma gas that was actually a ton of plasma bullets together shot out at 100,000m/s but these were super tiny the pencil used as they call it is only 2.5cm in diameter..so you can imagine how tiny those bullets actually are. In any case the covenant projectile for plasma is still quite slow currently and basically the same as star war blasters currently. I couldn't find much on real speed sources and not gameplay sources. But I mean the distance they battle at..and the ship weapons are much different. The distance is many times farther than star wars. With unsc weapons anyways being able to shoot much farther out than covenant ships. However it does seem that the covenant ships have a somewhat similar range since it not that extravagant of an advantage for the unsc.
      would you like to continue or are you going to realize hard numbers pulled from people and other calculations from many people have more sense than what you were blabbing about.

    0:34 all right for the record. In Halo reach the Plasma Pistol has the same time to kill at the standard military assault rifle. Furthermore the average height of a grunt is 5 feet. What I'm getting at here is that runs are more akin to Marines running around with assault rifles than anything. And the Plasma Pistol as dinky as it looks, is an incredible feat of engineering, by making something on the same equal footing as a human assault rifle in a small compact form and easy enough that a child could use it. It's... it's The AR15 of halo...... okay, that may be a bit kuch, but still.

    Growing up in a Macintosh household, I witnessed my father playing Marathon on several occasions. Knowing that Halo was made by the same developers, my first instinct with the plasma pistol was to hold the trigger as long as possible to see if it resulted in a self-destructive overload. Sadly, as most of you know, it does not.
    I've since forgiven Bungie for falling me in my expectations, given how many other references to Halo were abundant in the series through Reach. However, I have not forgiven them for Destiny 2. 😑

    plug a madcats controler into it and it makes it more deadly faster fireing thin the plasma riffle in halo 1

    I love your absolute knowledge on Halo, but may I suggest perhaps synching your 'stock footage' with what your talking about (Not that you usually don't do a great job of this in other videoes).
    3:39 - If you're talking about overcharging or specific type of pistol such as Jul M'Dama's Hesduros type, show those pistols.
    The stock footage of a player running around punching everyone in Halo CEA gets kinda tiring to watch.

    Typically considered "the worst weapon" in the game but in the minds of the best players - every weapon is useful.
    2 normal shots and a spartan punch is often enough to end an opponent. And because people think it's a crap weapon, they do you the favor of rushing into melee range.
    Fools.

    Getting shot by this gun in real life would be catastrophic it's like shooting someone with hot molten metal, covenant weapons need to be better than human weapons in the next Halo game, I'm looking at you Halo 6! Basically how plazma weapons kill is by scolding you to death, that's most horrible than bullets.

    Ok rail/coil gun… cool. now imagine this. A rail gun ,ie a electromagnetically accelerated projectile, that fires something that can track, is 6x more dense then earths heaviest natural element osmium, and is 3000 degrees Celsius, probably radioactive?, and so can melt through basically any material based armor plating at compatible scale. Oh wait that’s a covent plasma weapon. Oops.
    Seriously the density of our sun’s core plasma is 150 grams per centimeter cubed where as Osmium is 22 grams per cubic centimeter. All wile being magnetically manipulate-able like a metal. Now I could of based the possible plasma density of nutronium from white dwarfs but I believe that’s a separate state of matter.
    Also note in space warfare, realistically, overheating your opponent’s space craft is paramount. This is because the vacuum of space is a much worse conductor of heat then air so one can not as easily wait for heat to dissipate unlike hear on earth; essentially forcing your opponent to jettison their precious cargo/shed their shields or bake to death. So yeah heat damage is space is pretty Brocken. Think about a hydrogen fuel cell electric generator. Even though hydrogen is a gas it still stores more energy in its molecules then lithium ion battery’s. If you don’t believe me look up the tanks on a 300 mile electric and hydrogen car to compare the size. The battery for a EV is the entire bottom of the car where as the equivalent energy storage is about two medium sized tank. Note also hydrogen does not go bad as fuel and because it is a fuel, can be refueled instead of recharged which saves alot of time. Compare filling up your car with gas vs charging a EV even in “fast charge”, refueling is faster. Now dense plasma, like that found in Star cores (our sun being mostly hydrogen) can pack way more energy into a smaller space by essentially being ultra dense electrically and thermal charged hydrogen. With such density no wonder cov weapons can fire continuously for far longer without having to reload compared to human weapons density of 150 grams per cm3 plasma or hell some stars get 500 grams per cm3.
    Even better ,since every element known to man is just hydrogen fused together, these “plasma batteries” would double as ultra compact material storage. Imagine cramming titanium,gold, or any other needed elements down to the equivalent amount of 150-500 grams per cm3, then fusing the hydrogen into the needed elements to “unpack them”. Makes me wonder about cov manufacturing or if their projectile materials in cov weapons are made within the weapon itself (except the fuel rod which has a viable clip). So yeah I am a plasma Stan.

      In fairness, most shooting stances are 2 handed, for stability primarily. Regardless of if you can juggle a tank or not

    • @Slender_Man_186
      @Slender_Man_186 5 років тому

      TheMariusDarkwolf Mjolnir has built in stability, that’s why none of the guns have recoil. That would be even less of an issue with a plasma projectile.

      @@Slender_Man_186 whilst I'll grant that, he's been trained literally since childhood how to shoot amongst other things. How difficult do you think it would be to break literally decades of training and habit after only a few months, if that?

    • @Slender_Man_186
      @Slender_Man_186 5 років тому

      TheMariusDarkwolf John got his armor in 2525, Halo CE takes place in 2552. I think after 27 years you’ll break training and go with whatever’s more practical for the battlefield, especially since John wasn’t trained to fight to Covenant or use their weapons. He was made to kill rebels, the Spartan program just so happened to complete around the same time as the Invasion of Harvest.
