    This machine is worth every penny. It is robust and easy to use. I am a first time machine owner and I have sewn several thicknesses of leather and some canvas with no problems at all. Many thanks to Chuck for his excellent video tutorials.

    I have had mine for several months and am quite pleased that you have finally released this video which should be included with the machine, in my humble opinion. It is stone cold simple but it needs lubrication before trying to operate it. Just refer to the owners manual. Also, I prefer extreme pressure Molybdenum grease because it is almost completely impervious to heat and moisture. I also use graphite oil for locks etc. on the sticky pieces such as at the top of the needle bar. Mine was having problems with the Jump foot bar sticking on the top of the presser foot bar. Moly grease combined with graphite oil finally eliminated that problem eventually. The extreme pressure moly grease can be obtained at any auto parts store.

    Hi Chuck
    Nice talking to you the other day. As a new owner of the Cub sewing machine I would like to see you demo common problems and fixes. I think that this will help new owners and possibly help future owners by eliminating concerns over buying an unfamiliar machine. I have worked my way through several issues by trial and error including thread tension , lubrication and broken needles. I love this machine and having fun with it. There are several UA-cam videos online but none cover these issues. Keep your videos coming.

    Easy to see details & zoom utilized, but not overused make this video easy to follow. No wasted frames (useless small talk, showing the complete bobbin-winding, etc.) make it easy to watch in its entirety. At the end, I thought I had just watched a 3 minute video. Camera angle & transitions go unnoticed, as they should. A great video to increase sales of a machine that sells itself defines a winning combination.
    My hats (currently handstitched) could be completed at a rate of 4:1, and with better-looking stitches.
    I've got to have a Cub.

I just started in leather crafting and your videos are a great source of knowledge and inspiration! Have you thought about doing a series on armor? I bought a Tippman Boss from my local Tandy store about four years ago. I had nothing but problems with it. The store didn’t help me much, and Tippman tried to diagnose it over the phone & sent me some parts to replace. I thought I had it going when the bobbing failed to catch the thread, and really screwed up my project. I became gun shy about using it, and didn’t want to ruin any projects, so I am still hand sewing everything I make, and the Boss just takes up bench space gathering dust. I would really like to get a machine to sew with, maybe electric, but cost is too high. This looks simple, but again I’m pretty gun shy about screwing something up...:(

    I like the portability, I like the huge bobbin, the huge wheel to crank, but consider it highly irritating, that you need an additional drill to wind the bobbin. A machine in this price range should offer an opportunity to wind the bobbin with the machine itself. I will stick to my 100 year old Adler 30-7 which indeed is not portable at all and the bobbin is smaller, but she is a brilliant tank of a machine. Good luck to your company, regards from Germany, Europe.

    Someone really needs to find a more affordable sewing machine. I have over a thousand dollars in tools that I have bought in the last 20 years, but I have basically stopped doing any projects that require sewing just simply because I don't have the time to do it by hand and I can't afford nor justify spending that much money on a machine. If I could find an affordable sewing machine, I would buy a lot more leather. I have a laundry list of repairs I need to do and things I want to make.

      Look at the shoe patching or cobbler machines that are hand cranked. The are between $95 - $149, depending on Amazon or eBay sellers. Needs some assembly and small learning curve, but there are dozens of videos on them. I have one & enjoy it. Check out *Mainley Acres* and his UA-cam channel.

Could he have had the tension to tight? I’m wanting to buy one but after watching him I don’t want to have to struggle like he was.

    Is the stitch length knob a positive click or is it by guess and by god on a piece of scrap to figure out your stitch length? Any one who point out the Tippman Boss as a better value option has obviously never used one. They are junk, unless you need a boat anchor.

    • @Flying0Dismount
      @Flying0Dismount 4 роки тому +1

      It looks like the same guess-your-stitch as the Tippman.. In fact the bobbin, and shuttle looks to be exactly the same set of parts as the Tippman.. This machine looks to be the same type of needle-fed drive as the Tippman, just built with a much better casting, a much simplified mechanism with a flywheel instead of a pull handle.. Not worth $1650 though, as an entry-level industrial can be had for about $500 new or even cheaper used (I would suggest going up a tier and getting one with a servomotor instead of the typical universal motor though).
      A Tippman is not the greatest machine, but with a bit of tuning, is not that bad either.. I have 5 machines in my shop, two of them are industrial machines including an ancient Puritan that is actually rated to stitch over an inch and a quarter of leather and also things like up to 1/8" aluminum, but I also have a Tippman and one of those Chinese patchers that you can get for just over $100, and again, with some cleaning, polishing and tuning, these lower end machines work just fine and I still use them a lot for quick repairs and small projects where the manual stitch action is just easier and more precise, or where the free arm allows you to get the part in close and do some stitching repairs in-place and not have to disassemble the item first..

    • @anthonybasham4451
      @anthonybasham4451 4 роки тому +1

      It is a guess. It is a tension screw so it increases or decreases based on how many turns not where on the dial. I have run through the range on the screw to get an idea of where the lengths are, but you will still need to test on scrap to be sure. I’m creating a turn to length guide to help me.

    Just want yo explain something for the "its so expendive group"...I just started looking for a machine about two weeks ago so prior to that i was right there with you...after hours of research what i've found is that if youvwant a triple feed cylinder arm machine (no not the chinese shoe patcher it is a single needle feed) its going to be wayyy highervthan this .. what makes them expensive is the mechanics indide the machine not the fact thst they're electric...this machine has the same mechanics....the servo motors those nachines run off of can be found for under 200 dollars...so subtract the motor for a 3000 electric mschine and uts still 2800 dollars...full disclaimer the cub is still outside my pricerange but its definitely worth the cost.

    I started reading these “Comments” in hopes of learning something about the machine. All I am reading is a bunch of cheap people wanting something for nothing. Get over it people. Get a job, save your money and either buy one or don’t. I have researched leather sewing machines until I’m blue in the face. You will NOT find a motorized machine of any quality, that will sew 3/4 inch of leather for under $3000.
    So, since all the cry babies have cried over the price, is the anyone who owns one that can comment on how it works and if they are happy with it. That would be greatly appreciated.

    Looks like a nice machine but the price point immediately turns me off. Its not much less expensive than a motorized machine with similar capabilities and motorized lets me keep two hands on my work piece. Is there something I'm missing that this machine does that a similarly capable motorized will not do? If the answer is no then I suggest Weaver reevaluate their pricing. It looks like a lot of comments are similar.

    I'm always astonished at how very expensive these machines are. I really want a sewing machine for my work. It would really save me time on a lot projects, thus letting me earn money faster. However, only about half of the sewing I do could actually be done on a machine. The rest is just too small, too tight, or complex curves. In short, if I already had one, it would be worth the cost - but the barrier to entry is just way too high

    Hello there, I bought this Cub Sewing Machine recently, made a few stitches, to adjust it. Then the thread got tangled, I loosened two screws and pulled it out.
    Then the machine sewed a few more stitches and the machine stopped picking up the bobbin thread. When the shuttle cover is open, you can see that the needle feeds the thread forward towards the hook, then there is a click, the needle with the thread goes up and the shuttle hook does not have time to grab the upper thread near the needle.
    Who can help?

    Sir great video as usual. As you have vast experience in Leather Field, kindly let me know which type of thread is best for leather belt hand stitching; Polyester/Flax Linen/Hemp or Nylon? Regards.

      In another video he mentions, and I've heard others say the same, that he loves the ritza tiger, which is a synthetic thread.

      @@Bilbobobpie Yes Tiger Brand of Julius Koch is a Polyester fibre based thread but as much as I know natural fibre Threads like Flax Linen and Hemp are better than manmade fibre Threads. I just wanted to know what will he say on the basis of his experience. Thanks for your info.

      As long as the leather is at least 1/8" thick or heavier it should work. You will need to play with the tension a little bit but once you have that set, you should be good.

    I have my great grandmothers singer sewing machine from the early 1900s. Its a hand crank sewing machine. I wonder if it would go through leather? It operates a lot like that one.
    I gripe a lot about today's sewing machines. They are expensive plastic garbage. My Singer from the early 1900s has out lived a few generations and will likely out live a few more.
    Its nice to see that they are being built right again.

      Depends on the model, but probably not. Even old "good old days" cloth sewing machines can't handle leather -- it's very hard to punch through, and even if it does, the gearing inside will start to wear out quickly.

      @TheKrogon 4 роки тому +2

      @@Icanhasautomaticcheeseburger there are excellent Singer leather sewing machines, they go though thick veg tan leather like butter. Singer 29k for example (and it costs just a fraction of the price of the shown machine)

      I have early 1900's sewing machines, and a Singer 29K patcher, and a motorized Class 4 leather stitcher. An old Singer or White cast iron machine from the turn of the century can sew about 3/16" of soft or veg tan leather and use up to #69 thread (pretty thin for leatherwork). The Singer 29K can do 1/4" soft or veg tan leather and use up to #92 thread. My Class 4 machine can go thru 3/4" hard leather and use up to #345 thread.
