I'm Massachusetts born and raised and have admired JFK my entire life. Despite the horror of what happened in Dallas that day, I always thought the city got unfairly marred by the tragedy. Yes, there was hate in Dallas in those times - as there was hate in much of the country in those days. There is hate in the US today. But that day in 1963, the people of Dallas gave JFK a huge warm welcome. The streets were packed for miles with well wishers and fans. This might sound so odd to say, but I bet up until those last 6 seconds in Dealey Plaza, JFK probably felt like he was on top of the world. I'm glad the people of Dallas decided to mark the 50th anniversary the way it did. I think they did a marvelous job.
I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to be at the 50th anniversary memorial service in Dallas. Obviously, anytime something like this happens, the nut cases come out in Dallas, and here in the comments as well, apparently. But the important thing is that a beloved leader was remembered in a dignified manner. Rest in peace, John F. Kennedy!
