    One of the most difficult pieces in the entire flute rep, and he didn't even break a sweat. Amazing. Saw him perform at the BFS a few years back. After he finished his recital, Trevor informed the audience (in a good-natured manner) that there were "rubbish bins" (British for "trash cans") in the lobby where we could toss our flutes on the way out! HA! Bravo, Denis, and hat's off to you! A new bar has been set, it would seem.

    YESSSS!! Such wonderful technique and musicianship. His full sonorous beautiful tone is how I love to hear the flute sound. His incredible and powerful low register. Such consistentcy of timbre in all registers. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!

    Arguably one of the world's hardest flute pieces and Denis smashes the piece easily!

    That's honestly the best comparison of the three that I've heard. I'd also have to add in:
    Denis technique > Galway and Pahud technique
    It's just more impressive and nearly flawless every time.

      @ashmaz4811 4 роки тому +29

      No, when you reach professional level, you have to stop comparing " technique " as most professionals have adapted their technique to best suit them. Now you must compare their musicality, diversity, knowledge etc

    • @Ragnar_Aevarsson
      @Ragnar_Aevarsson 4 роки тому +4

      Ashley Mazanhi this is true, when you become professional you need to stop taking in techniques of other professionals and start making your own techniques that will help YOU play to your best ability

    And no one mentions the pianist ??? The piano part is a monster and she is just as amazing as a flute player. Why is it always pianists are left as a secondary part of the whole performance I fail to get it.

      Maybe because it’s a flute piece first and foremost but I agree the pianist is amazing

      In general. But about Jolivets Chant des Linos, the flute voice is the even more challenging, and hardly to manage für any flutist on earth.

    • @PatriziaDrHucke
      @PatriziaDrHucke 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, and in Das musikalische Opfer of Jordi Savall, especially, the pianist should be more mentioned too.

    An exquisite performance from a true master. So very lovely. What a gift to our world. You play so naturally and beautifully, like a bird singing for its lover. It is so very understandable why you are the principal flautist for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City. You are simply brilliant, insightful.

    Superb! The sound vibrates and dances throughout the registers with such vitality. But that vast bottom register has to be the most beautiful; raw, supple. and fearless in equal measure. Bravo...

    Marcus Boyd's comment is, perhaps, a little disrespectful, but we are all entitled to our opinions. The fact of the matter is that opinions are like a-holes - We all have one, and most of them stink. ;) But, I have to say that I really enjoyed Denis' performance. He's set a new standard for every flautist. Bravo, Denis.

    His technical facility is definitely very impressive. I do feel however fast fingers lend itself to flute playing fairly easily, you find a lot of flute players who can play impossible passages really quickly. ...but that doesn't make you a good musician. True artistry is about finding that finesse in a fiery musical line. That allows the audience to breathe during your breathtaking display of technical mastery, instead of them holding their breath hoping you don't start seizing on the floor.
