  • For 2024 the Trek Supercaliber has been completely overhauled with two new carbon frames, an increase in travel and a redesigned IsoStrut. Having spent a load of time on the previous version, we were eager to see how all the changes played out on the trail, and how the new Supercaliber would compare to the best XC bikes currently on the market.

    Gen 3, Fox isostrut 100mm, Fork 120mm, threaded BB, 100 gms lighter. Twice as expensive. Start saving now.

    Great content, here in the DR there is quite of good amount of XC riders that are ordering this new supercaliber, the amount of unit sold here really impress me, this XC bike is gorgeous in person and the 9.9 in gray color looks amazing

    Do you think this bike could be used for longer events like 100km and 200km events? Seems like with tires choice, could be quite capable. Thanks!

    amazing vid... ive been suffering with putting the wheels on with that tubeless tape, its so bad i just take it to the mechanic

      I had this problem with road Jet RC6 wheels and Continental tires, I just gave up entirely and switched tire brands even though the Contis are fantastic

      so its not a bontragger thing or a trek tubeless tape thing. its a reallly bad issue because it wont permit you to put a spare tube in case of emergency. its a fully commited tubeless setup @@chadwells7562

    My son is currently in a Large SuperCal gen 1 and Gen 2 geo looks longer but seat tube is shorter and he's growing, In this bike do you think we should size up to an XL or stay in a Lg

      Sizing is always a tricky question with growing young riders!
      The Gen 2 Supercaliber is definitely a bigger feeling bike than the Gen 1, so chances are the Large in the new bike will suit him well.
      I guess the question is around how much more he'll grow, but also what he wants out of the bike. If he's very flexible and is focussed on high-level racing, having a slightly smaller bike that offers a lower front end will be appealing. But if he prefers a less aggressive riding position and is doing more all-round riding and racing on it, the slightly longer/bigger bike may be preferable from a stability perspective.

    Weird i bought one and mine was 7500 and it’s 24 pounds right now. I have some things to upgrade on it like wheels and forth to get another pound and a half or two pounds off of it. :-)

    Hi guys, I was wondering how the Gen 2 model compares to the Gen 1 that you modified with a 120mm fork, Bike yoke dropper & wider bars?
    I am currently riding/racing a gen 1 and am weighing up wether to just put on a longer fork (Fox 34SC 110 which I already have) or suck it up and go with the new ($5,000) frame.
    I really like the bike for its efficiency and awesome climbing capacity but its definitely not the most confidence inspiring in high speed tech/descending. The main reason I want to put on the bigger fork is not really for the increased travel but more just to slacken it out a bit, raise the bb & lengthen the wheelbase for a bit more stability.
    Would appreciate your thoughts, thanks.

      That's a great question! I think if you're already happy with your current Gen 1, but are looking for a bit more confidence on the descents, upgrading to the bigger Fox 34 SC fork would be a great move.
      The rear suspension on the Gen 2 Supercaliber is a little smoother, and the 2.4in tyres certainly help with grip and comfort. But it's still a pretty firm and race-focussed bike and isn't a night/day difference over the Gen 1 frame.
      If you already have the Fox 34 SC fork, try it out on the Gen 1 bike and see how it goes. I found it was a great upgrade, particularly with the wider bars and dropper post.

I’m already running 2.4” Scorpions (no clearance issues) and a dropper so hopefully the bigger fork will be the final piece of the puzzle.     Any issues with the seat stays on version 2? I cracked 2 rear triangles on separate occasions

      No issues with our test bike so far. I spent about six months on the previous generation model back in 2021 and didn't have any problems there either.
      On the note of the Gen 1 frame; when it was first released in 2019 it had a claimed weight of 1,933g including the shock. Then for 2021 Trek made a rolling change to the swingarm to introduce UDH compatibility. With the new swingarm the claimed weight for the frame and shock went up to 2,150g. Based on that, we can assume that the redesigned swingarm added 217g of material over the original version.
      I found this out after speaking with Trek about the weight of the Gen 2 Supercaliber frame and how it is supposedly lighter than the old frame. That isn't the case when you compare it to the original version that launched in 2019 - in fact the new Gen 2 frame is heavier (1,950g vs 1,933g). It's only lighter when you compare it to the Gen 1 Supercaliber with the redesigned swingarm (1,950g vs 2,150g).

    Your comparison between this and the Epic WC is rather different to James Huang’s, interesting… Can you actually put regular rim tape on those Bontrager wheels?

      You certainly can! I haven't done it myself, but I understand both the Line and Kovee wheels are able to run either TLR rim strips or standard tubeless tape. I've been testing a Kovee RSL wheelset lately that comes fitted with tubeless tape from the factory and have had no issues with tyre fit.

      I’ve owned few Kovee XXX wheelset & I saved more than 100g by removing heavy plastic strips & taping them.

      @@alumal Kovee XXX wheels are rated at 1290g that’s naked weight without valve stems or rim strip/tape. I’ve had couple of Kovee XXX wheelset and they all ranged from 1310-1350g so slightly heavier than advertised but was still way under 1400g taped with valves (ranged 1349g-1390g). Newer Kovee RSL said to be 1199g were 1240g on my scale taped with valves. I rode them once but didn’t like how they flexed around too much. As for the Supercaliber Gen 2 I haven’t rode one yet but from those close friends of mine who own one their honest opinion was that they couldn’t really tell much difference. One of the guy told me if he didn’t know gen 2 existed and he got on one he wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference. I get it with slacker head angle and slightly longer front end but that can be achieved by getting slacker headset & buying a bigger size. Also the rear travel 60-80 doesn’t seem like much improvement. Maybe if they made it legit 100 travel things might feel different. Anyway I’m waiting around to see if I can get just the frame for a deal so I can just transfer everything over. But then again I don’t see a point unless I get the frame for really cheap

    A stupidly expensive bike with a inadequate 80mm rear travel for today's ever increasing gnarly courses. All to show off the competitors how light trek can make their full sus bikes. By 2026, trek supercaliber 3 with 100mm rear travel.

      @@MrSpecialized75 exactly! Trek is like apple... You pay premium for the brand. Nothing on the bike is exceptional or superior to other brands, if anything trek has had history of their so-called OCLV carbon frames cracked or damage many times.

      @@pebbleinspector Trek used to be great. Not only in aesthetics but function. The road and cyclocross bikes are still great, it's the mountain line that has taken a step back. They need to improve and I'm sure they can.

    Hats off to Trek for not tucking the cables into the head tube
    That idea has been horrible for cycling

      I couldn't disagree more.... This cockpit like that looks horrendous, not to mention of aerodynamics, which is also important for xc riding especially fast courses. The bike is after all supposed to be super efficient and to provide all marginal gains out there.

      Actually once you have got your head round it is is pretty easy to work on and for the number of times that you will have to replace the upper headset bearing you will need to bleed the rear brakem as part of a routine service.

    The bike looks cool, but to be honest, the prices are unbelievable crazy.
    10k for such a casual bike?
    Has some cool features, but I don't think it's worth so much in material cost.

    11.62 kg without pedals means more than 12kg with pedals and bottle , it is not a light bike for a full carbon, not an heavy too

      For sure - the Bontrager wheels, dropper post and GX Transmission all add noticeable weight. It also uses the bigger 35mm SID, which is a bit heavier than the SID SL that's also available with 110mm travel.
      That said, I'm glad that Trek has spec'd the bigger fork and a dropper post, as it makes it a far better descending bike.
      It's worth noting that the top-end 9.9 XX AXS model is claimed to weigh 9.63kg, which makes it one of the lightest production XC bikes on the market.

      @@HB1840 that's a bike that shows all his potential when you ride it at 100%, otherwise you have the feeling that you are not pushing it enough.
      Unless you are a beast it is not possible to ride 1h or 2h at max speed every day.
      Moreover, to push it enough you have to be in a very agressive position with a forward balance, and this is not adapted for a daily ride, it is hard in arms.
      You can ride it daily but this is not adapted and it is like to have a rigide bike that doesn't give any pleasure and make you feel you are in a bad shape.
      A Trek Top Fuel is more adapted for daily ride, it delivers pleasure even if you ride it calmly.
