Not only are you the BEST watercolor instructor on You tube, you are also adorable!! I always look forward to your bloopers!! Stay well and know we all appreciate your hard work and knowledge that you share with us!!
Louise is be finest watercolor teacher I’ve ever seen. She explains things in such wonderful detail. I’m now obsessed with watercolors because of her. I’m also so impressed that she pronounces the name of Arches paper correctly.
Thank you very much Shelly. I used to call it 'Arches' like it is spelt and then I started calling it 'Arshes' with a 'sh' sound because I heard another artist in an art supply store in Sydney calling it that. Then one of my subscribers here told me it was pronounced 'Arsh'. So I'm so happy we can learn from one another. ❤️
Louise De Masi If you watch the video on the Arches site, that is the correct way to say it. I cringe when people say it incorrectly. I actually had a salesperson in an art store tell me that Arches (like McDonalds arches) is the way Americans say it. 😖
I didn't appreciate this video when i first watched it, but now I understand it because it explains some problems I have been dealing with in my watercolor travails! I keep coming back to Louise's videos when I get stuck, and am almost ready to join her patreon channel. Thank you so much for your explanations. You are a great teacher! Even though I am 73, when I grow up, I want to paint just like Louise!
Dear Louise, I have recently taken up watercolors and in these hard and scary times of isolation and lockdown we are facing here in Italy, you do not only gave me right tips but also kept me so much company. Thank you so much I really hope to improve with my drawings.
I had a laugh at the end with the bloopers, but you are great to stand in front of a camera a do this Louise. Thank you for all your good advice. I get frustrated with watercolour, but really want to be able to paint with this medium, so I'll give it another ee r go.
You are too cute and funny! I really enjoy your videos and do not miss a one. This demonstration is one of my favorites because I learned something new that will really help me improve my painting. You do a great job and I look forward to more! Thanks!
You are simply the best. Your demonstrations and explanations are crystal clear and perfect. I have just started using watercolours and am delighted and excited to have found your tutorials.
Your videos are so thoughtful and well made. You are so talented and generous with your knowledge. I have been painting off and on for 35 years, and I think I’ve probably learned more from your videos than anywhere. Thank you Louise!
Hi Louise - Just rewatched this video as well as your video on shadows. Even though I’ve been painting with you on Patreon for a year, I felt like I was failing shadows lately. And I love to paint birds….so both were very helpful as stand alone refreshers. Thank you so much.
Well explained, and I love the bloopers at the end. It seems that making a flawless video at one go is almost as difficult as judging the water/paint ratio!
Since lockdown, I have been looking to for a chance to use a small, student grade watercolor set I received as a gift. While watching several video’s on watercolor, I happen to find your channel. Thank you, your explanations are so detailed and extremely helpful, plus you make me laugh at the end with your out takes. Thank you, thank you. Be safe
Oh! Thank you for a great, easy to understand approach to adjusting the edges of colors. Your bird paintings are just spectacular! I think I could sit for hours and watch the magic you create with your brush and talent!!
😆 I love your villeos!! You are so good at explaining succinctly a any concept. You are SO blessed to have such a wide variety of colorful birds! Bird Tricks from the U.S. was in Australia doing training workshops and spent time with free flight groups there. Their channel on UA-cam has quite a number of videos from their time there. They have a passion to end birds being the highest rehomed animal by teaching people how to solve problems with their pets through training. They are also teaching people how to safely keep their birds in free flight . I love following their work and support of bird sanctuaries.
Hi Louise, your instructional videos are the best, and this one is at the top of the list! Your Videos are getting better and better, this one is fantastic. Not seen another video on UA-cam about blending better than this one. Thank you so much for figuring out what we need to know.
I love your videos! You may already have a video that you can direct me to but an excellent topic would be on the process of starting a painting, whether it may be a bird, a flower or a piece of layered cake and deciding to work wet on dry or wet on wet. I hope that makes sense...
Thank you for more of your very helpful information. I had no idea there were so many ways to create soft edges. And, of course, the bloopers are priceless in every one of your vileos.
Your videos are so education AND you deliver them in a fun way. They are helping me take my first exploratory steps into watercolor. I like the inclusion of the bloopers at the end; it was cute :D!
Thank you Louise! You are such a great teacher. You explain things so very well. A very informative clip. I get inspired each time I watch you paint. Thank you once again.
Loved learning techniques! You are so talented.. I love watching you paint animals, especially birds. Your elephant is probably most creative use techniques ❤️
I love watching you paint. It is also good for me to see that you have had the same kind of problems that I have. I love painting birds and what you’ve shown me here will help me fix the mistakes I’ve made with my blending. Thank you so much!
Thank you again for the detailed breakdown and the examples. This really does help elevate the quality of one's art through proper techniques. Enjoyed it to the very end!
Very informative and naturally you hit on my struggles. Unfortunately, in watching your help videos, you seem to hit on all of my struggles, i.e., too much water placed on subject area, too much water used in adding to paint, hard edges, soft edges....I could go on and I have been painting for a year and still struggling. I am taking botanical lesson classes and am wondering if that is the problem or merely the teachings are different and I should try your teachings. You have wonderful tutorials on UA-cam. Lols...at the ending of this lesson, you stated you did not realize it was going to be too hard in creating a video. Each item I TRY to paint, i did not realize it was going to be that hard!🤯
Thanks for sharing, I learned a lot. I dabble in watercolor a little bit and mostly paint with alcohol ink now. I think some of what you teach transfers to using the inks also.
You are by far one of the best teachers of watercolor! Thank you for your detailed explanations, techniques and beautiful paintings.
Not only are you the BEST watercolor instructor on You tube, you are also adorable!! I always look forward to your bloopers!! Stay well and know we all appreciate your hard work and knowledge that you share with us!!
Thanks so much Lynne. 😊 💕
I love that you talk with your fingers. My grandma used to say that was a sign of intelligence. Of course, she too spoke with her fingers.
Louise is be finest watercolor teacher I’ve ever seen. She explains things in such wonderful detail. I’m now obsessed with watercolors because of her. I’m also so impressed that she pronounces the name of Arches paper correctly.

How you manage to be so nice and tender in front of the camera while being a shy person is a mystery to me! Well done, dear lady!
😊 Thank you Grazia. 💕
