He's there with Jeff Loomis, Keith Merrow and Ola Englund. I'd rank them Loomis, Hauch, Merrow then Englund. Just my opinion. Check out all their stuff, including their bands, if you're a metalhead you won't be disappointed. As for this pickup, probably gonna be a great one, chords and notes shine through the distortion and has huge chunk and great harmonics.

I have a multiscale legator with shit stock pickups. Cant find any reasonably priced fanned pickups without going custom or routing soapbar spaces (emg, blackout, lace, fishman). Hopefully this new blade 7 string humbucker will answert my prayers with minimal body modifications!!

you can hear all the original notes on cords even with the gain this high! it doesent sound like a fart on the low end. it kinda reminds me of like a heavy piano or something like that.
I know none of you probably know this but I'll ask anyways... Are the frets on that guitar titanium plated or are they some new-fangled nickel-brass material? I've seen bell-brass frets on Warwicks, but I've never seen frets with a gold/yellow sheen to them like that while still being essentially silver in color. It just looks like titanium to me, but I very much doubt that's what it is lol. Titanium is great for turbine blades in jet-engines and power-turbines, but not so great against metal-on-metal abrasion.

Is it just me, or does this sound alot like a 7-string Invader? I know alot of people hate them, but since I heard Karl Sanders of Nile call the Invader "Nile tone in a box", I bought one and put it in my Soloist that had the worst pickups in it out of the 3 I own. It is now my favorite guitar. The mid-range bite might not be for everyone, but I'd rather have a pickup with too much of something than a pickup with not enough. You can turn down the mids on your amp if they're too prominent, but you can't turn up what's not there in a scooped sounding pickup like the EMG 81. One of the most horrible rhythm tones I've ever "accomplished" was an 81 with the mids pushed. They just sound way too dry and almost nasal in the mids, in addition to the extra noise that trying to boost a frequency that's not there will get you.
The 81 is not scooped. At least not from my observation. It might be lacking low mids but the high mids (the thing you perceive as nasal) are very prominent. I found it thin and very tinny sounding on it's own but once the band kicks in, you get the bass drum and the bass player to fill out the low end and the low mids and it suddenly sits very well in a mix. I have to yet find a passive that is as tight and fast tracking in the lows as the 81

Normally I think this kind of music all sounds the same but this guy is very talented, he ads soul to it. It's the CFH tattoo for sure. I have that same guitar but with a trem and I never play it because it sounds like poop. It plays amazing but the pickups are really messy sounding witch is weird for high end Ibanez, all my other Ibanez guitar are amazing. Maybe I'll try one of these pickups in the bridge and see if it tightens up the bottom.
