Here's a little explanation of what is going on in the trailer for those not familiar with Warhammer Fantasy Lore: The person narrating is a Light Wizard- part of a sect of magic users who specifically fight the Daemons of Chaos and safeguard dangerous magical tomes. It would appear that he became desperate as war engulfed the world and opened a Book of Tzeentch: a book that his college was likely entrusted to lock away. Tzeentch is the "Chaos god" of Wisdom, Change, Forbidden Knowledge, and Deception and is said to be able to comprehend all possible outcomes and chains of outcomes of events, and therefore consulting such a book could provide a clear cut answer for how to end the war and, in some sense, visions of all the possible events within time. But he was deceived, likely from the beginning, and became possessed by the corruption of Chaos and instead of using his magic to end the war, he summoned a Greater Daemon of Tzeentch- also known as a Changer of Ways or Lord of Change. The entity is basically the magical equivalent of an entire army while manifested, but with all the hallmarks of Tzeentch. When it has exhausted its power, it will then attempt to possess a mortal host until it can channel enough magical energy to manifest again.

Agreed - at least blood - at the very least! I wanna see some red spatter across the screen to let me know that the pixelated character i just cut with a sword isnt hollow.
Salim El-Othman there is a reason for the blood dlc,at least they say they have a reason. It's to sell to a wider audience the official game because technically the DLC isn't the game and therefore the game itself can be offered at a lower rating of PEGI 13 while with the blood it'd be rated a lot higher (like PEGI 18) it's just a marketing strategy. Not everyone wants blood so it's just a waste of a rating to rate it higher for a function not everyone wants.

For all the people bitching about it not being a "historical" game anymore, ALL of their games up to this point have been historically based. You've had 2 Medieval games, 2 Rome games, 2 Feudal Japan games, a game based on Atilla the Hun, and 2 Gun powder era games, and that's not counting expansion packs. If historical accuracy is what you want, then play one of the NINE games you already have available. Warhammer fantasy fans have been waiting AGES for a decent game and Warhammer fantasy fits perfectly into the total war formula. Get over it, this is happening. I've even seen some people saying "Where's Total War: Modern" Please....just stop.
NOBODY dare buy any pre-release package they offer. Force them to generate sales based on the quality of their finished product instead of making money off the hype and then cutting production costs and releasing a shit game like Rome2
Lightscribe225 That is capitalism. Those people who get fired, if they are competent, then they go start their own game company and become very successful.
The 2 sides of the fandom manifest in the comments section, those who would keep all the pleasures and knowledge to themselves with unmatched bloodlust who seek to impart stagnation of lore and community by keeping its gates closed versus those who would spread its Holy light to all those with willing hearts and ears

This IS how every fantasy based game should attract players, by making a stunning promo like this one. The storyline is enticing and rather exciting to watch, it brings in the lore of the game in a meager amount of time telling you about the races in a short amount of time. It is interesting to see the story through the eyes of a priestly sorcerer of Tzeench and how he is warped by the powers of the lord of change.

I predict the trilogy will be: 1. The Empire (men), Wood Elves, Dwarves, Vampire Counts and Chaos 2. High elves, Dark Elves, Skaven, Tomb Kings 3. Lizardmen, Savage Orcs, Ogre kingdoms, Hob Goblins, Chaos Dwarves
The general from the Kislev trailer which slowly fell to Chaos after all the rage from all the challenges Kislev faces reminds me of this trailer and the wizard who fell to Chaos after seeking dark knowledge after all the challenges the Empire faces.
While I definitely agree this version was better, I actually think that the difference between the two versions is purpose. This one is to sell us the whole thing and give us a taste of the darkness of the Old World. It's meant to show us a taste of the epic battles. The intro in the game itself I think gets the tone better, even if the VA is a little lifeless: she flat out sums up each factions and how they're all mobilizing to war, and some hints of plotline (IE, Karl Franz proving worthy of the Warhammer) but also gets across a sense of hope. Told of the greenskins and undead, then of how the dwarfs are /resurgent/ under Thorgrimm and Karl Franz is ready to prove himself worthy of the Warhammer showing that yes, there is hope even in the darkness to come. But that hope must overcome Chaos and its corrupting taint... only the strongest will survive. But that's my two cents. Definitely prefer this version, but I think the in-game intro has its own virtues that should be acknowledged.
Very nice. What im sure many people will be pleased with is that Creative assembly have grown so much larger from their Total War success that they have enough people to be developing a historical total war AT THE SAME TIME as a fantasy Total War. (This is confirmed). Very happy to hear, because it just means I can keep playing Attila, Rome 2, Shogun 2 FotS etc and not have to worry that their won't be any more Total wars like them in the future.

I'm not a fan of warhammer, but a fictional take on the game seems like a good idea to help add a bit of creativity to total war
8 years ago. Gods, I'm so old.
1:45 Fails roll, reverts to lvl 1 mage
"No empire 2? No Medieval 3? No this No that" Come on guys. It's time for something different and fresh. They've already said that this game is made by different team and other team is working on historical Total War games at the same time. Enjoy the game. There is room for more than one entry in the franchise.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Ed Knight Don't worry they will with their special week 1 launch DLC
schlootle Oh - you couldn't be more right ...... really tired of having to "buy" blood and gore for a TOTAL WAR game.....
Agreed - at least blood - at the very least! I wanna see some red spatter across the screen to let me know that the pixelated character i just cut with a sword isnt hollow.
Salim El-Othman I dont want blood in my game though
Salim El-Othman there is a reason for the blood dlc,at least they say they have a reason. It's to sell to a wider audience the official game because technically the DLC isn't the game and therefore the game itself can be offered at a lower rating of PEGI 13 while with the blood it'd be rated a lot higher (like PEGI 18) it's just a marketing strategy. Not everyone wants blood so it's just a waste of a rating to rate it higher for a function not everyone wants.
All praise Tzeentch the lord of change.
No, screw Tzeentch commenter from 6 years ago. It’s Nurgle all the way!
The Vampire Counts will be in it. All I needed to know.
+Caio Trubat
I got three letters for you. D L C
+Steve Someone Where have you been for the last 7 months. The Empire, the Dwarfs, the Greenskins, and the Vampire Counts. First four confirmed races at launch been confirmed for ages. And last month the Chaos Warriors were revealed as the first day one DLC.
+peger No they said Vampire counts are one of main 4 factions...alas Chaos are a pre paid DLC... which is bullshit since they are a core race in Warhammer fantasy
Jackal Muldipulus CABAL Hold on Vampire Counts are a playable faction from the beginning while Forces of Chaos, the main antagonist group in the franchise is DLC? Dont get me wrong, I love the vampires in Warhammer, but they are secondary antagonists while Chaos are the main villains. How could they do that :/
+Letho Stormcrow Go look up on the discussion forums on steam community.I'm tired of explaining to people that Chaos is not always the main antagonist.
Why is this guys amazing voice acting replaced with a crappy narrator in the game intro?
I remember the time when this was the intro
Holy shit this game is actually happening.
***** Not really, no, wasn't it only confirmed in January this year? That isn't exactly ages now, is it.
***** I knew this was happening, hence how I knew it had been announced since January. My point is I can't believe it's happening as I've been wanting a game like this for years.
Ozwald Well when they aquired the rights for Warhammer games over a year ago, it was highly likely, although technically not confirmed.
And now there is war hammer 3
Tzeentch?
+MyViolador "Our rules have changed."
+MyViolador It looks more like Kairos
+MyViolador Indeed it is.
+Laurence Martin Kairos haves two heads
+Laurence Martin Well, it's a Lord of Change, but certainly not Kairos Fateweaver.
And yet all of this is NOTHING, before what is to come! It whispers and Roars...in...the dark! It is Against us! It is-It is Unstoppable...I am UNSTOPPABLE. I see it now. The Beast that will devour...The World.
This intro is better than the intro in the released game imo.
There was none, was it?
+VoltanIgor yes there's an intro when you launch the game, video is the same different narration.
Yeah, the replaced this masterfully performed "desperate old man" voice with one that just sounds like some woman who sounds a bit pissed.
Very interesting after the new trailer for WHTW 3 trailer.
should've called it total warhammer...
Nicholas MacNeil also should've scrolled down before posting that.
Since NOBODY said it yet...
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
*SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!*
Come what may, the Empire shall be victorious!
HisHolyMajesty Well...The End Times disagree with you there. But yeah steamtanks ftw.
Yes ! But there will be a vampire on the throne
RAVENWING117 Not if I can help it!
HisHolyMajesty Bretonnia stands with the empire SwiftRage
emirhan ekşioğlu and the dwarves will be stalwart with Bretonnia
I Love how Chaos Chicken is made out to be the Final Boss to everyone. Yet In game Archaon is the one that Gets a Cut scene when Chaos arrives. He only really a Final boss(if you can call it that) In The Chaos Campaign.
truly, what hope is there? Against countless horrors that cannot be named, let alone fought by mortal means? thous damn chills
Like Germans during WW2!
@@DutchGuyMike The Germans of WW2 were the horror which was crushed by the Allied Crusade 😁
@@stephenjenkins7971 Allied crusade lol, the allies did jack all except counting the massive supplies they send to the Soviets which made Bagration possible. Not to mention they knew what the Germans were doing via code breaking (the allies), they were constantly playing with a foul hand. And by the time the allies arrived at "D"-day the Germans had already lost the war through the Soviets.
This gave me goosebumps. A single tear rolls down my cheek.
Just got the biggest nerdgasm ever XD
Hell yes
Michael Nielsson I literally had to do a double take...This better be the cream on the cake for the total war series - I DONT WANNA A REPEAT OF RTW2!!!!!!!!!!!
Salim El-Othman Well sir bend over and get ready. If they had trouble with units landing for an assault from the water how in the hell do you think the flying units are going to behave? I really want this to work but as of late this company has been more focused on releasing $5 "Blood and Smoke" DLC than delivering polished content.
Wynston Mckridi I honestly wish I could argue with you on that lol - but sadly I cant.
Salim El-Othman I hope the cream on the cake is a W40k title with shitloads of planets, lore, history and all factions. Is that too much asked ? ^^
Now the story makes sense
"Our rules have changed"
Oh no they fucking haven't, not with chaos as pre-order DLC.
I think the rule was sticking with historical settings only. Now we are in a fantasy historical setting.
+wonderboy2402
I know...
+FlipUltraHD well clarifying this for others. I think regulars know what to expect from CA DLC.
yay chaos is a pre-order. I just fucking love it when something that important is a fucking pre-order.
Can't get hype without game play footage CA...
MobiusCoin They showed us 'gameplay footage' before rome 2 and it was complete BOLLOCKS.
Alex Coulthard Ehh idk - the gameplay footage only had one major difference between the actual gameplay - its a lot more gritty.
MobiusCoin Every time a movie or game comes out with a teaser or reveal trailer people cry about no real gameplay or good footage. Learn what types of trailers are ment to show what content before crying you fuckwit.
Bradley Walters That's harsh. You're unnecessarily mean.
MobiusCoin The Rome 2 'Gameplay' trailer was a complete fabrication, keep being cynical when it comes to AAA game development. Wonder what DLC this one's gonna have, 'Forces of Chaos Pack'?
I get goosebumps every time I look at this. I watch it almost every day. Incredible!
the dark it is, against us it is, it is unstoppable .... I am unstoppable ....
I don't get it why there are a lot of negative comments from total war fans. Buhu it isn't historical.. The old total war games are also more historical inspired than historical.
Total wars allready produce historical games, (and they won't stop) so why shouldn't they expand to get more fans?
I am looking forward for this game. They have to add some new mechanics (magic + flying units) but I think they can do it.
also the warhammer universe is blatantly inspired by history.

At 1:35 you can already see small tentacles from the book at the mages finger
Games Workshop's ip Warhammer....Well allI can say is hopefully it won't suck.
Marc Ariss I wonder who's idea it was, CA or Sega? Strategy Warhammer was always Relics scene, and they nailed it good with DoW, especially the originals.
XarKavier Good question, Im not sure who would have made the call, but I have kind of expected GW to do something like this with the Warhammer ip, as they are scaling back the miniatures line but will be left with a pretty rich world. That being said I do hope it does the ip justice, fingers crossed...the trailer looked good though.
XarKavier THQ sold Relic to Sega
Marc Ariss Here's an indication of how relatively important Total War: Warhammer is to the respective companies involved;
Front page of Total War's website - www.totalwar.com/Front page of GW's website - www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Home?_requestid=1037985
Jake Norman Yeah, not surprising really, GW has had that attitude toward Warhammer ever since the switch in popularity moved to 40k....Oh well, I still have my 1st and 2nd ed Warhammer rules which I still use from time to time (Im old been at the GW thing for 30 years now)
When you realize the guy that revealed Cathay in the Warhammer 3 trailer is the same guys thats going through the book of this trailer
And he is young!
Wait, isn't he also the advisor?
No this guy is neither the advisor nor the guy who revealed Cathay. He’s a light wizard who turned to Tzeentch in the lore, though he isn’t in the games sadly.
@@chene-aurelgaudreau1072 actually this isn't engrimm. Engrimm never actually got turned by chaos . He infiltrated the collage of light, always intending to turn against them.
@@karlfranzemperorofmandefil5547 neat, I didn’t know that
@@chene-aurelgaudreau1072 There isn't actually a case of any light magister falling to chaos conventionally. They can still be turned through greed or a deal but they can't be corrupted, because hysh fills their body the same way chaos corruption does and hysh burns away chaos.
There you are you beautifull bastard i dare you to even think about hurting our ice queen.
Well hello, mysterious Chaos man. We met again
Not going to lie, that looks awesome!
NOBODY dare buy any pre-release package they offer. Force them to generate sales based on the quality of their finished product instead of making money off the hype and then cutting production costs and releasing a shit game like Rome2
ThePeacemaker848 What if all that does is make Sega fire CA staff to compensate for the money lost in production?
Lightscribe225 That is capitalism. Those people who get fired, if they are competent, then they go start their own game company and become very successful.
ThePeacemaker848 I like Rome 2 very much thank you
Cody Geyer
I heard it took almost a year for it to be playable.
ThePeacemaker848 Amen to that, we gotta band together to stop their shitty bussiness practices.
For those who are angry that this isn't historical, don't worry, another team of developers is making a historical Total War alongside this one.
The 2 sides of the fandom manifest in the comments section, those who would keep all the pleasures and knowledge to themselves with unmatched bloodlust who seek to impart stagnation of lore and community by keeping its gates closed versus those who would spread its Holy light to all those with willing hearts and ears
"Truly what hope is it against countless horrors that shall not be named" it's called hellstorm rocket battery
Welcome to Estalia gentlemen.
Finally, a Warhammer game that isn't some fucking MMO.
Looking forward to this!
***** There's also a Skaven survival game, doesn't look that great though. It's also set during The End Times and we all know how that ended... (What i'm saying is the Skaven are totally gonna win that game)
Goraka91 That game looks interesting, but as you say the ending is pretty obvious.
It'd be really cool if they made a Warhammer Fantasy version of the Dawn of War series IMO.
***** Warhammer 40k RTS is awesome if you like strategy.
Johnny Sahn Thanks, I'll check that out!
in case you haven't tried it, I highly recommend mechanicus. it's like xcom but without the bullshit, and I think it might be my favorite warhammer 40k game yet.
1:15-1:21 that looks fucking awesome
epic, hope the dlcs won't be too expensive cause I'm gonna buy all of them
Did you buy all of them? XD
WAIT A MINUTE!
Is that Tome the same as the one being used in the Warhammer 3 campaign?!
yes it is. RoC 's campaign is a prequel to WH1 campaign

Chimsonovan while I am not going lie that sounds awesome. the majority of the warhammer 40k fan base are used to the turn based incarninations of the game weather it would be table top or others. to put it simple that people of the fan base will bash and cause trouble in terms of the sales of such a game considering that most of the fanbase
They are making one right now for 40k
michael liggett Plus, there will be a mountain of negativity from people outside the Warhammer fan base that the game would just be a rip off of Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age. There is no lack of open-world fantasy RPGs.

Yes.

What is with the hate? I am so excited for this game! Seriously, this is something I have been waiting for a long ass time! :D
Best game trailer I've seen all year. Never played the Warhammer board games, but the THQ games were awesome. Will buy this.
Does anyone else think that this Light Wizzard is the Advisor?
he is indeed, got the confirmation in an interview
I predict the trilogy will be:
1. The Empire (men), Wood Elves, Dwarves, Vampire Counts and Chaos
2. High elves, Dark Elves, Skaven, Tomb Kings
3. Lizardmen, Savage Orcs, Ogre kingdoms, Hob Goblins, Chaos Dwarves
Very close, only Lizardmen were in WH2 and Savage Orcs were in WH1. Plus a bunch more DLCs added lots of new factions for WH1 and 2.
So close man so close

Definitely prefer this version, but I think the in-game intro has its own virtues that should be acknowledged.
the AI better not suck this time around
+wal martian Nah, now the "sneaky AI" from the great underway demo "sneaked" through a massive hold in his line to his archers with massive spiders.
