That is a thought I had never pondered before. "If God takes sin as a personal offense, how do you think he takes [obedience]?" You're exactly right. Obedience is exactly how we let our actions speak louder and tell God that we love Him.

I LOVED the part about how chosing righteousness / obedience is like saying "I love you" to God. Wow that is SO good.

Mike, I first watched this video about 3 years ago and it helped change my walk with the Lord. Your content has really helped me to think more Biblically over the years. I thoroughly enjoy all your new stuff. However, this particular video will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for sharing. May God bless you and all your future studies.

@Myeyesareopen8 I'm 40 and a smoker too but I know I'm saved. I changed when I REALLY came to Jesus bc I had many more issues and called myself a Christian. Mike puts it very well, come to Jesus with a true heart (He already knows everything anyways). Repent of your sins and God will change your heart from the inside out.

Very inspiring message, Mike. Been struggling with sin myself recently, so it's providential that I got to hear this. Perfect timing.
It's so discouraging trying to fight sin. For years I've been feeling like it's a long drawn-out pointless battle. These sweet reminders from Scripture are our lifeline as believers.
Thanks for the great exposition! Hope many more have been blessed by your sermon.

Putting this in words has me shocked and in awe because it's so true that there are things I no longer yield to, that I could've never imagined. And I never thought, okay I don't have to yield to temptation anymore because I'm no longer a slave to sin even though I'd read that passage so many times and knew it logically.

I feel sometimes, I just want to be alone. This way I do not sin against anyone. If I have no one around, then my sin would minimize. Too bad that can not separate me from my sin, but it may help me refocus on God, but God has sent me into the world to be an example. So I must learn discipline.

Yes, yes and yes, Amen brother! Love the plain truth of scripture how you're teaching it! 📖☝️✝️🙏 My life dominating sin of smoking has been completely blasted by God's Holy Spirit (thank you, praise you Jesus 🙌) but it didn't happen overnight! I think I strive really bad though as never satisfied with overcoming one sin, never want to sin at all but it does sometimes take some painful lessons to truly come to a place where you realise you can't put any confidence in this flesh but full confidence in the finished work of Christ 🛐 I just want to please my amazing redeemer & saviour & king of my life Jesus and want to pass it on to all my brothers and sisters in Christ ❤️ I pray the Lord keeps using you to present such a balanced and true presentation of His word in love and humility... we ALL need this... especially in today's church of such sad, unnecessary, puffed up divisions! 🤦 Prayers for this continually as it lays heavy on my heart too ❤️

There really is something about this video that we all need to hear. I will be saving it so I can go back to it... I was 1 of those people who called myself a Christian, but I sinned daily without remorse. Like you said I had a big question mark over my head. Once I truly became saved those same sins tore me apart. I wanted to be baptized, And I actually wanted to read my bible for the first time in my life. (Start with the New Testament is my advise). My dad always talked about this change in you.. but I never felt it until Thank the Lord God it happened! In January of 2022 and my Dad became saved around 2000. (Not that i dont still struggle with sin, I definitely do. I believe while on this earth we all will, but we will be aware of it much more). I am so thankful, God gave me time. Jesus's sacrifice is everything to all of us. Mike's last video about the "wretch".. is exactly what we all are and He still saved us! Thank you Jesus!

Best understanding I have heard of man's depraved state(his fallen state or depravity), is that 'all a man's doings and not doings(whether outwardly good or bad appearing) revolve around the 'fallen self'. That is, they are motivated by and selfishly revolve around the person's own personal feelings, mental states, sense of guilt, and felt needs, instead of being--as they should--motivated by and revolving around the love of God and fellow man which comes only through faith in Christ(the Gospel and the new birth).

    Hi Mike,
    Good talk.
Righteousness is the hallmark of the christian. It is the purpose of the christian life. A new christian should have a measure of love given by God to us according to our ability at the moment of conversion. Yes we have to not conform to the world but be transform by the renewing of your mind by God’s Spirit. Total depravity? How about Abraham, he was not regenerated by the Holy Spirit however he was able to believe God promises, so we can also accept the invitation even when we are still sinners. Yes, the invitation is unconditional but the love of God is conditional. Jesus said “ if you abide in me you will remain in my love”, there is a condition to stay in God’s love. The spirit being life because of righteousness, it has become life because of the Holy Spirit being in union with our spirit, the body is dead because our flesh responds not in agreement with God’s law but with sin’s law. However, our body will begin to respond to God’s law by the power of the Holy Spirit that is in us. We are victorious and have the capacity given by God from the Holy Spirit to be more than conquerors.

You're assuming a Sunday Sabbath, and He was Jewish. The Sabbath is Saturday. Most Christians honor Sunday as established by the Catholic church, but Israel does not. Further, they used sunset as a days end as it begins to dawn toward the next day after sunset. They didn't use clocks. He had to have been interred in the earth 72 hours, as the sign of Jonah was the prophesy sign that had to be fulfilled - before the stone was removed on Sat morn (that Sabbath) and was risen. The Lamb of God was sacrificed for our sins on Passover - that Tuesday. There followed the 3 hours of darkness and Red Blood Moon of Joel. He was interred that night, which on a clock would be early AM of Wed, which was a High Sabbath. 72 hours later, He rose during the early AM of the weekly Sabbath (Sat), and had risen when the tomb was checked that morning. If you're uncomfortable with history I'm truly sorry, but the catholics changed it all around long ago. Bless you and good luck

'....we were by nature the children of wrath...' an interpretation... 'what we became in our 'natural birth....' or '...what, in our purely 'natural development', we all become before God's 'supernatural intervention' with the Gospel. What we all became or become is 'the sinful angry children of our own sinful choices', and deserve, in turn, God's holy anger and judgment.

I've agreed with a lot of this series' and am really enjoying the Bible study and will continue, but I do disagree with Mike's take on regeneration AFTER someone believes and comes to faith. There are SO, SO, SO many stories, including mine, where I was living in sin, didn't give God a second thought (for 52 years) and God simply reached into my life and pulled me out of the life of sin. I then was lead down a number of rabbit holes and sermons by the Holy Spirit and grew my faith into belief beyond any doubt whatsoever. God basically grabbed me, shook me and said "Enough of this life". I truly believe I would never have come to faith otherwise. I ignored anything to do with religion before this point.
Do I consider myself a Calvinist? Don't know. Don't really care either. But I do believe that most have no TRUE, LASTING interest at all in Christ or belief unless they are regenerated. God did this for me, out of the blue and with no warning or prompting from any influences in my life at all. I'm still surrounded by influences who laugh at Christians and ignore and hate anything to do with God. Yet here I am doing this Bible study. I pray throughout the day, attend church and my life is so, so different.

So Mike references that Christian psychologists should be thinking of whether something is of the 'old or the new', 'flesh or the spirit' etc.
In psychoanalytics these Biblical concepts are echoed by things such as Freud's view of the ID, Ego and Superego.
In regards to the renewing of the mind the method by which one does this is mirrored by the practice found in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
So psychology has affirmed what Paul was teaching here many centuries later. 😅

I find it interesting that you stop before v13 which says, If you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit yo put to death the misdeeds of the body you will live...
this would seem to say that 'walking in the Spirit' is not automatic and Gal 5 says that the flesh wars against the Holy Spirit in us.
The only way I can bring law and grace toghether is as follows. Faith (and the word for believe) according to Vines is Pisteou, and a big part of its meaning is to trust. Therefore we are saved by trusting in Jesus, trusting that he paid the price for our sin on the cross (we are born again of the Holy Spirit) but also showing that we trust Him (that he knows what is best for us) by doing what he says.
Faith without works is dead because you show by your actions that you dont actually trust Jesus because you are not doing what He says.
I have watched your later video 'Why I think Calvanism is Unbiblical' and i think this definition of faith makes sense of Eph 2:8.
Is this works through the back door, do you think?
Eph 2:8 (For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.)

6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
      1 cor8
so Jesus is not the father and is not the God . he is the son of God and God said so himself on more than one occasion; are you calling God a liar?
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
      mathhew 3
      matthew 16
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
have you ever heard Mike use these texts?

the greek does not know the a or an or the so out of the greek you should be able to understand :

      it would say:
      Go
      John 1:1-51
1 In the beginning was Word, and Word was with God, and Word was God.
how can anybody be WITH somebody IF he IS that same somebody?
at least two persons are here God and the Word and not ONE.

ISV For by him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether they are kings, lords, rulers, or powers. All things have been created through him and for him.
PHILLIPS Now Christ is the visible expression of the invisible God. He existed before creation began, for it was through him that every thing was made, whether spiritual or material, seen or unseen. Through him, and for him, also, were created power and dominion, ownership and authority. In fact, every single thing was created through, and for him. He is both the first principle and the upholding principle of the whole scheme of creation. And now he is the head of the body which is composed of all Christian people. Life from nothing began through him, and life from the dead began through him, and he is, therefore, justly called the Lord of all. It was in him that the full nature of God chose to live, and through him God planned to reconcile in his own person, as it were, everything on earth and everything in Heaven by virtue of the sacrifice of the cross.

LEB because all things in the heavens and on the earth were created by him, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers, all things were created through him and for him,
TLB Christ himself is the Creator who made everything in heaven and earth, the things we can see and the things we can’t; the spirit world with its kings and kingdoms, its rulers and authorities; all were made by Christ for his own use and glory.
MSG We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels-everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body.

As I have understood it: We are not and cannot be saved by just believing we are saved. We need evidence that we are saved before we can believe and truly be saved, but where is the evidence that we are saved? Simple, we have the record of God's Son(the Bible, the Gospel), which tell us that God's Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, has died for our sins, and rose from the dead proving it. We are supposed to believe the truth, the 'record of God's Son'. If we don't believe it, we are told we have made God a liar(1st John 5:10). When we do begin to believe it, we simultaneously begin to conciously know that what we have believed is the 'Truth', that we have complied with God's only requirement for salvation, and that we have entered into a new and happy relationship with Him...we really ARE saved by God's grace through our faith in Christ! The Holy Spirit has, of course, also mysteriously come along side us, testifying to the truth of all this in our inner man. Do we sometimes doubt? Yes, but we really shouldn't, should we? We simply need to grow-up and out of our doubts...and simply keep believing all the truth we can in the Word of God.

I think carnal Christians are real. But not what is portrayed in our society. More that think they are carnal are actually unsaved.

no mike there is no position that God will reward with a condition IF YOU DID NOT CHANGE FOR GOD FIRST
He that says: “I have come to know him,”+ and yet is not observing his commandments,+ is a liar, and the truth is not in this [person].+ 5 But whoever does observe his word,+ truthfully in this [person] the love of God has been made perfect.+ By this we have the knowledge that we are in union with him.+ 6 He that says he remains in union+ with him is under obligation himself also to go on walking just as that one walked.+
    FOR EXAMPLE:
He that says he is in the light and yet hates+ his brother is in the darkness up to right now.+ 10 He that loves his brother remains in the light,+ and there is no cause for stumbling in his case.+ 11 But he that hates his brother is in the darkness and is walking in the darkness,+ and he does not know where he is going,+ because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
If we make the statement:* “We are having a sharing with him,” and yet we go on walking in the darkness,+ we are lying and are not practicing the truth.+ 7 However, if we are walking in the light as he himself is in the light,+ we do have a sharing with one another,+ and the blood+ of Jesus his Son cleanses+ us from all sin.+

Did you think being carnal is justifiable according to Christianity. So, we able to say two types of christians carnal and spiritual. So after salivation stay unconverted in practice is just according to your teaching. This is the heresy of Dispensationalism. They think to enjoy justification with out sanctification. This is antinomianism.

I am a new subscriber and enjoy your sermons. I do have a bit of a beef about your characterization of Adam as a blame-thrower, though.
I believe Adam was superior to any man alive today, not just physically perfect, but intelligent beyond our imaginations, as well.
He understood the consequence of Eve's disobedience, what it really meant that she had been deceived by the evil spirit in the serpent. Just as Adam was perfect, so was Eve - I doubt there has ever been a more beautiful woman than Eve.
Now think of the heavenly host who saw God's beautiful creation, the daughters of men, and lusted after them, desiring to have them as wives and for them to bear hybrid children. It is clear the serpent sought to steal Eve from Adam. He enticed her with the promise that she could become like the gods. He deceived her to take the forbidden fruit into herself. She became corrupted.
When Adam discovered what had happened, that she had been faithless to God and to him, he was faced with a choice. His emotions were in a turmoil. He had failed to protect his most precious gift after God had warned them about this evil in the Garden. Does he give her up to suffer her fate, leaving himself alone again? Does he join her to save her from the spirit who was stealing her away?
Adam had love and gratitude and a longing for Eve, as he saw her fade away before his eyes. He sacrificed himself for her. Then they both faded away from God and He had to call out for them.
"Lord, this woman you made for me (she is mine, flesh of my flesh) has done this thing, and I love her, I cannot let the evil serpent take her from me. I did what I could to keep her, as You meant for us to be together. We are so ashamed. But do not let the serpent have this woman you made for me."
Then God sacrificed an innocent animal to cover their nakedness (sin of a sexual nature)
The child's storybook version of Adam and Eve and what happened in the Garden of Eden is appropriate for children, but adults need to understand more deeply, as Adam surely did. For we see today in the world around us people being deceived by the influence of spirits enticing to us our death, by stirring up unholy lusts in defiance of God's will for His creation. That is why we need to accept the loving sacrifice made by Jesus, and see clearly in the Holy Spirit the trickery used now is the same lie and liar that lured Eve in the Garden.

This is very imaginative. It would make for a very compelling book or movie, but there’s nothing in the Bible that really gives us this insight. It seems much more likely and appropriate to say that Adam was playing the blame game.

Before you read Paul, read what Paul's Lord said in Matthew chapter 7 v17 every good tree brings forth good fruit and every evil tree evil fruit, a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, nor can an evil tree bring forth good fruit,
Christendom seems to accept that an evil tree cannot bring forth good fruit, but reject the Eternal Words of the Eternal Word that a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit , as the Apostle John confirms in First John 3v9, whoever is born of God does not sin , because God's seed is in him, which is exactly what Paul teaches in Romans chapter 6
Christianity and sin are incompatible, your doctrine of the old nature and the new nature existing in the true Christian is a Luciferian lie, because it teaching that you can be a child of God and a child of the Devil at the same time

How is it that you judge JW's who teach as you do you have the appearance of humble and meekness so what is the problem with their message in Christ? Some are babes in Christ and some are powerful in the spirit but each is working towards the spiritual man or woman so why do you have a problem with them? Mathew 7 : 21

are you asking me or mike? the truth is that the government of the millenium will be from heaven down to earth: revelation mentions that moment :
I saw also the holy city,+ New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven+ from God and prepared as a bride+ adorned for her husband.+ 3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent*+ of God is with mankind, and he will reside*+ with them, and they will be his peoples.+ And God himself will be with them.+ 4 And he will wipe out every tear+ from their eyes, and death will be no more,+ neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.+ The former things have passed away.”+
      rev21
somehow the government of Jesus with the 144000 kings over the great crowd of witnesses on earth will be the first step : later also Jesus will surrender to his father:
Next, the end,* when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power.+ 25 For he must rule as king until [God]* has put all enemies under his feet.+ 26 As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing.*+ 27 For [God] “subjected all things under his feet.”+ But when he says that ‘all things have been subjected,’+ it is evident that it is with the exception of the one who subjected all things to him.+ 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him,+ then the Son himself will also subject himself* to the One+ who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.*+

But who says that the totally depraved cannot say yes to God? My answer is, the totally depraved CAN indeed say Yes to God. I am not a Calvinist, I am a "scripturalist". The scriptures show that there is N O T H I N G good in me, that is, in my innermost being, at the core of my being. Yet, God has regenerated me. I assented to the work of His Holy Spirit. As one who was totally dead in trespasses, completely thoroughly sin[ful], I said "Yes" to Jesus. I was Lazarus in the tomb, dead, and Christ Jesus called me out. Lazarus did not respond from an infinitesimal remaining spark of life. Lazarus , TOTALLY dead, responded to the life generating words of Jesus, "Come forth, Lazarus". I believe that the concept of Total Depravity is a theory which is used as an attempt to describe the ontological condition of which you speak, Mike. And when we try to define these conditions, we develop debatable theories. Perhaps "Total Depravity-ists", and whatever you call those on the opposite side of that particular debate are both believing the same thing, but have different ways of understanding the condition, and different ways of speaking about it. But the condition is simply the way that it is. The condition is not one way if you are a "Calvinist" and another way if you are an anti-Calvinist. The condition of natural man is simply the condition of natural man. Anyway, despite giving in to my temptation to argue minutia here, I truly value your teaching, Mike. You are a very smart guy who loves The Lord and has a great way of elucidating scripture, and I appreciate you, and am always provoked to thinking deeply about scripture when listening to you!
