    I was taking online classes from 9 - 5 so I was having to sit for long periods at a time. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxEhgucmXpcAGYh8fatGFEnOK2V97VIwhG After the first day in a regular table chair, I thought about an exercise ball and ordered one that night. It came the next day! My hips, legs, back and butt couldn't have been happier! I'm almost 5'11" and I ordered the largest size and it was perfect for me. I also have RLS (restless legs) and this helped so much.Pumping it up was a little challenging and definitely gives you a good arm workout, (I'm a 62 yo woman) but it's very doable. Getting the tape centered with the hole to inflate it and then getting the pin back in was also a little tricky. But I love my new "chair" and I love the torquiose color. Hopefully it will also get used for exercise. 😁

    I wanted to see a plant in it.
    (My big plastic plant container has started to break and needs to be put into another plant vase. hmm.. your concrete ball would be excellent for my plant, but I would need a bigger opening)
    You gave me a great idea. Thank you.
    (This also just reminded me of the balloon pinata I made about 12 years ago:)

    very interesting and useful thank you. you left out how you went about smoothing it down and rounding it out. i its kinda obvious but still interested to see your tools and approach in refinement and maintaining spherical accuracy. i have been working with circles for years and have only just taken on circles more seriously this year. ennjoying the journey. thanks again. looks great :)

    Farouk ,nice. Questions.....what should I look for in material if I want it to be strong? Can i use concrete at all? Is there a way to brace it so it wont move on floor or when touched? Where can I get acid?.I want it to look gray or do I use plain concrete and somehow Polish it? Thanks man

    That is a beautiful planter and great tutorial! Couple questions- do you leave the fiberglass after you remove the ball or do you pull it out and how heavy/durable is the planter? Would this stand below freezing temps & snow?

    • @ConcreteDIYcom
      @ConcreteDIYcom  8 років тому +8

      +Cecilia A Thank you! You do leave the fiberglass in the ball, it helps a lot with reinforcement. The planter we made was a little thin and started to crack. We only did two coats of the thin set. At least three would be ideal. For materials there is also quickcrete quickwall that has strong binding fiberts in it. We used that product a few weeks ago and it is strong! I would be curious to see how that would work with this project.

    I love it! What is the 'green' and 'red' substances you are using during the acid staining phase? And you said a person can neutralize the acid by mixing water and baking soda, so did you rinse only or did you apply some baking soda?

  • @williamlighter192
    @williamlighter192 8 років тому +3

    Outstanding tutorial! I want a large diameter spherical-interior planter and was thinking about going hypertufa. You may have presented another option. I see that the fiberglass mesh was left in. With a 30"-40" diameter and 3 applications of concrete, how much would you estimate in weight? Also, I was not clear on curing time between courses of concrete.

    • @ConcreteDIYcom
      @ConcreteDIYcom  8 років тому +3

      +William Lighter I would estimate something around that size to be at least 60 lbs. We did have some cracking with our ball at 2 layers so i do recommend at least three layers. It is best to wait at least 12 hours between each layer ( this can depend on humidity and weather. ) In terms of strength, if you can find a product that has fiberglass in it such as Quickwall by Quickrete. This would be great for the third layer!!- Tala

  • @DawnSantucci
    @DawnSantucci 8 років тому +3

    You mentioned that you tried Quickwall on a sphere a few weeks later, did you eliminate the fiber mesh tape when using that product or did you still cover the ball with it?

    • @ConcreteDIYcom
      @ConcreteDIYcom  8 років тому +4

      Hey Dawn, Sorry for the late reply. I used quick wall for a wall however I still have not tried it with the ball. I did talk to someone who tried it and said it worked great. Do keep the fiber mesh on the ball still if you use quick wall. It will be easier to release from the yoga ball and a good skeleton for the ball. Thanks for watching!- Tala

    @UCV9TH557JAvnsQRL3bcodPg I used thin set and on the second coat, it cracked. I had put it out in the sun to dry faster, but thought maybe it got too hot. So, I put a third layer of thin set on and let it dry in my garage, and that also cracked. Any suggestions?

    Is this strong enough to use as a planter?

  • @TheBushdoctor68
    @TheBushdoctor68 7 років тому +3

    So I guess you needed to make a base for that sphere as well, because otherwise it would just roll over... right?

    • @ConcreteDIYcom
      @ConcreteDIYcom  7 років тому +5

      TheBushdoctor68 Valid concern..! I was surprised we did not need a base. Because the planter was so large, the potting soil that filled about a third of the planter weighed it down on its own. Again, make sure you make the outside thick enough.. at the very least three layers so it doesn't crack. Hope this is helpful!
